My critical reflection on Simone Tulumello’s intervention focuses first on the need to make a clear distinction between methodologies and epistemologies, asking the author to explain his own perspective. A second area of concern is the analogy he draws between structures engineered with concrete and human societies and how this appears to simplify the debate he initiates. In the third part I suggest that the goal should be to transcend the tensions between paradigms through inclusive and hybrid methodologies.

Abstract:
Gamification, defined as the application of game elements in non-playful contexts, has proven to be a promising strategy for engaging students in the teaching-learning process. When applied to the context of inclusive education, gamification offers opportunities to increase the participation of students with different profiles and needs, promoting a collaborative and engaging learning environment. This article explores the impact of gamification on inclusive education, analyzing how this approach can be used to ensure that all students, including those with disabilities and other learning chal

Current product design methodologies are not conducive to creating inclusive products (products that meet the needs of persons with and without disabilities). In this paper, empathic design principles and modular product design strategies are explored as part of a novel approach to inclusive design. A disability simulation suit is used to test if empathically derived customer needs from persons without disabilities can serve as a proxy for the customer needs of persons with disabilities. This data collection methodology both increases the safety and ease by which customer needs can be gathered

Abstract:
The negative impacts of crises on marginalised people’s lives are exacerbated by intersecting inequalities. However, there is limited knowledge about the layered effects of marginalisation and protracted crises; what this means for how people cope and access social assistance in particular crisis contexts; and how to address the connected material, emotional, relational and socio-political issues. This research tackles this gap by generating understandings about the social assistance experiences of marginalised people in east and northeast Uganda, and insight into how the relations and process

Abstract:
‘Decolonising Education – Fostering Conversations’ is a project funded by RECAP involving Coventry University (CU) and Deakin University. While originated as a comparative study focussing on exploring respective decolonisation practices and discourses from staff and student perspectives, the pandemic forced a shift where Coventry focused data collection and developments were complemented, informed and supported by literatures, histories, institutional perspectives, and methodologies emerging from Indigenous Australians’ struggle against colonialism. Abstract:
This essay explores how flexibility and playful learning address the current challenges in higher education, aligned with the principles of transformative pedagogy. This pedagogical approach views the university as an inclusive and adaptable space, where teaching aligns with students’ realities and needs, promoting accessibility, engagement, and holistic development. Flexibility enables students to manage their learning in a personalised manner, adapting to their individual paces, schedules, and environments (whether in-person or virtual), fostering autonomy and a better balance between person

Abstract:
Analysis of intersecting social inequalities is key to effective, inclusive interventions in crisis settings. Gender equality and social inclusion analytical frameworks provide key research questions and participatory methodologies which seek to understand: Who is excluded? How are they excluded? Why are they excluded? What can be done to address this and support greater inclusion? There is a focus on underlying power dynamics, drivers of marginalisation, and entry points for external support. This rapid review presents a summary of relevant analytical frameworks and good practice for analysin

SEERNet, a hub of five digital learning platforms (DLPs), either in K-12 or higher education, are enabling researchers with capabilities to conduct research and collect data on large numbers of students. Based on the new Standard for Excellence in Education Research (SEER Standards) around Equity, we propose that researchers should consider future-oriented approaches and methodologies to conduct equity-relevant research using DLPs. Taking a future-oriented approach, we created scenarios and personas to help us envision an equitable and inclusive future. Scenarios and personas are tools that ma

Literacy research has an important role to play in helping to shape educational policy and practice. The field of literacy research however is difficult to navigate as literacy has been understood and researched in many different ways. It encompasses work from psychology, sociology, philosophy and neuroscience, literary theory, media and literacy studies, and methodologies include a range of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches. In mapping this complex field, I draw on a systematic ‘scoping survey’ of a sample of peerreviewed articles featuring literacy research relevant to l
