Neighborhood greenery contributes to improving mental, emotional, and physical health and may help to promote neighborhood safety. Several studies have reported positive effects of neighborhood greenery on the improvement of outdoor safety, but little is known about whether the relationship between green vegetation and outdoor safety varies with the income status of neighborhoods. The purpose of this study is to examine neighborhood greenery as a predictor of outdoor crime rates between low and high-income neighborhoods while controlling for the sociodemographic conditions of the neighborhoods

Money laundering is a hot or dirty money laundering practice (dirty money). This dirty money comes from illegitimate and illegal practices such as corruption, bribery, smuggling, as well as banking crimes and other unhealthy practices. To clean it, the money is placed in a bank or certain place for a while before being transferred to another place (layering), for example through the purchase of shares in the capital market, foreign exchange transfers or the purchase of an asset. Abstract:
Lifelong learning (LLL) is a crucial strategy for the development of human capital, particularly in the face of challenges such as an aging population, a significant decrease in birth rates, and the outflow of qualified personnel, which pose a threat to the national labor market. The objective of this article is to examine the factors that influence LLL and assess the specific impact of regional variables that reflect infrastructure quality, access to social services, cultural development, and crime rates. As PayPal has become an increasingly popular platform for online transactions, understanding the accounting and tax aspects of managing PayPal transactions has become crucial for businesses and individuals alike. When it comes to accounting for PayPal transactions, it is important to treat PayPal as a separate bank account. Businesses should record PayPal transactions separately from their main bank account, ensuring accurate tracking and reconciliation of income and expenses. Income derived from PayPal should be reported as part of the business's overall revenue in the appropriate tax filings

Childhood obesity rates have been on a remarkably steep rise in recent years. According to recent literature, the rate in the United States alone has more than doubled compared to other regions in the world such as Australia, Canada and Europe1,2 . Especially in the African immigrant community, there has been speculation of a higher prevalence of childhood obesity in the United States3 . This warranted further investigation into demographic factors impacting childhood obesity rates and their subsequent consequences with other clinical diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Public attitudes about punitiveness have a significant impact on penal policy in the societies. Punitive penal policy and increased imprisonment of offenders are often seen as a reflection of the public support for harsh punishment. (Cullen et all, 2000). Criminological research often links the attitudes toward punishment with the socio-demographic characteristics of the public (gender, age, race, ethnicity, political ideology, education, income, religion), their possible direct or indirect victimization, the fear of crime, their perceptions about crime and the effectiveness of the criminal ju

Using a hedonic residential rent model for Brazil's metropolitan areas calibrated with microdata from Brazil's annual household survey, this study estimates that increasing the sense of security in the home by one standard deviation would increase average home values by R$1,513 (US$757), or about US$13. 6 billion if applied to all 18.0 million households in the study area. The principal components analysis of sense of security and crime victimization variables indicates that higher-income households feel more secure from crime in the home, even though theft and robbery victimization rise with

This working paper studies the effect of remittances from the United States on crime rates in Mexico. The topic is examined using municipal-level data on the percent of household receiving remittances and homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Remittances are found to be associated with a decrease in homicide rates. Every 1 percent increase in the number of households receiving remittances reduces the homicide rate by 0.05 percent. Other types of crimes are analyzed, revealing a reduction in street robbery of 0.19 percent for every 1 percent increase in households receiving remittances. This decre

Latin America and the Caribbean is the most violent region in the world, with an annual homicide rate of more than 20 per 100,000 population and with an increasing trend. Yet most evidence of crime concentration, geo-temporal patterns, and event dependence comes from cities in high-income countries. Understanding crime patterns in the region and how they compare to those in high-income countries is of first-order importance to formulate crime reduction policies. The introduction of ride-hailing in cities of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) remains a relatively new topic in regional research and a contentious issue in local policy and practice. Household surveys suffer from persistent and growing underreporting. We propose a novel procedure to adjust reported survey incomes for underreporting by estimating a model of misreporting whose main parameter of interest is the elasticity of regional national accounts income to regional survey income, which is closely related to the elasticity of underreporting with respect to income. We find this elasticity to be substantial but roughly constant over time, implying a large but relatively constant correction to survey-derived inequality estimates. Using an unusually rich dataset that provides national coverage on housing prices and homicides and exploits within-municipality variation, the study finds that the burden of violence affects only the poor. Assessing the development of countries relies on poverty rates as a key indicator. However, official poverty rates are derived from household surveys that often have limited frequency, unexpected gaps due to field work constraints, and substantial delays in processing and publication. This paper presents a novel micro-simulation method for estimating poverty, which introduces changes in demographic and labor variables into the surveys, that can be derived from just a few observed or forecasted macroeconomic indicators. Recent literature has emphasized the importance of transport costs and infrastructure in explaining trade, access to markets, and increases in per capita income. For most Latin American countries, transport costs are a greater barrier to U.S. markets than import tariffs. The authors investigate the determinants of shipping costs to the U.S. with a large database of more than 300,000 observations per year on shipments of products at the six-digit HS level from different ports around the world. In addition, the authors find that efficiency of ports is an important determinant of shipping costs.
