Abstract:
A process improvement of incoming inspection for the materials used by a steelmaking enterprise is explained in this paper. The applied methods were described with examples considering the need of the improved process. The process complexity is explained in turn by the existence of the involved actors that need to exchange information about the inspected materials. The results obtained by the improved process justify the action started in 2012 for the incoming inspection process by a more constant quality level of the materials, reduction of the overall process duration, better materials information exchange and a convenient method for supplier surveillance and evaluation.

Abstract:
Abstract Reinforcement learning is the most preferred algorithms for optimization problems in industrial automation. Model-free reinforcement learning algorithms optimize for rewards without the knowledge of the environmental dynamics and require less computation. Regulating the quality of the raw materials in the inbound inventory can improve the manufacturing process. In this paper, the raw materials arriving at the incoming inspection process are categorized and labeled based on their quality through the path traveled. A model-free temporal difference learning approach is used to predict the acceptance and rejection path of raw materials in the incoming inspection process. The algorithm presented eight routes paths that the raw materials could travel. Four pathways correspond to material acceptance, while the rest lead to material refusal. The materials are annotated using the total scores acquired in the incoming inspection process. The materials traveling on the ideal path (path A) get the highest total score. The rest of the accepted materials in the acceptance path have a 7.37% lower score in path B, whereas path C and path D get 37.28% and 42.44% lower than the ideal approach.

Abstract:
The cell characterization in the incoming inspection is an important but time and cost intensive process step. In order to obtain reliable parameters to evaluate and classify the cells, it is essential to design the test procedures in such a way that the parameters derived from the data allow the required statements about the cells. Before the focus is placed on the evaluation of cell properties, it is therefore necessary to design the test procedures appropriately. In the scope of the investigations two differently designed incoming inspection routines were carried out on 230 commercial lithium-ion battery cells (LIBs) with the aim of deriving recommendations for optimal test procedures. The derived parameters of the test strategies were compared and statistically evaluated. Subsequently, key figures for the classification were identified. As a conclusion, the capacity was confirmed as an already known important parameter and the average cell voltage was identified as a possibility to replace the usually used internal resistance. With regard to capacity, the integration of CV steps in the discharging processes enables the determination independently from the C-rate. For the average voltage cycles with high C-rates are particularly meaningful because of the significant higher scattering due to the overvoltage parts.

A letter is a means to submit a statement or information in writing from one party to another. The information may be a notice, statement, request, report, thought, rebuttal and so on. The management of letters within an institution is categorized into two, namely incoming and outgoing mail. An incoming letter is a letter received by an organization / institution made by another official organization / institution and an outgoing letter is a letter sent by an organization / institution made by another official organization / institution. BRI Inspection Office is representative of BRI directors in regions that perform supervisory function of operational working units in the region, or it can be said is the eyes and ears of directors in the region. Including the Inspection Office of BRI Padang City, which oversees the operational work units located in the Padang City area and conducts audits with the aim of ensuring that internal controls in the operational work units in their working areas are effective especially in Padang City. In the mail archiving system, there are many piles of unorganized letters so that when supervisors want to check incoming mail or outgoing mails they will not be properly managed. This new letter governance information system is expected to make it easier for the BRI Inspection Office to manage the archiving of incoming and outgoing mail.

Abstract:
Abstract The incoming inspection process in any manufacturing plant aims to control quality, reduce manufacturing costs, eliminate scrap, and process failure downtime due to defective raw materials. Prediction of the raw material acceptance rate can regulate the raw material supplier selection and improve the manufacturing process by filtering out non-conformities. This paper presents a raw material acceptance prediction model (RMAP) developed based on the Markov analysis. RFID tags are used to track the parts throughout the process. A secondary dataset can be derived from the raw RFID data. In this study, a dataset is simulated to reflect a typical incoming inspection process consisting of six substations (Packaging Inspection, Visual Inspection, Gauge Inspection, Rework1, and Rework2) are considered. The accepted parts are forwarded to the Pack and Store station and stored in the warehouse. The non-conforming parts are returned to the supplier. The proposed RMAP model estimates the probability of the raw material being accepted or rejected at each inspection station. The proposed model is evaluated using three test cases: case A (lower conformities), case B (higher conformities) and case C (equal chances of being accepted and rejected). Based on the outcome of the limiting matrix for the three test cases, the results are discussed. The steady-state matrix forecasts the probability of the raw material in a random state. This prediction and forecasting ability of the proposed model enables the industries to save time and cost.

Abstract:
Sanden international, an automobile air conditioning compressor manufacturer, was facing a problem in its incoming material inspection procedures. Although the company had designed and was using its own sampling plan, some managers and supervisors where not confident of its reliability. Sanden recently established a goal for its total number of defects per supplier as one part per million. Achievement of this target required reviews of the existing sampling plan. The purpose of this project was to help Sandra identify the best alternatives for its incoming material inspection procedures. To do that considerations were made about the usefulness of sampling inspections, theoretical aspects of inspection sampling plans were examined, current sampling plans were analyzed and recommendations were made.

It is imperative for all manufacturing setups to have a structured system and culture of quality control to maintain product performance and customer satisfaction. An integral part of this system is to check incoming parts through inspection and to ensure that suppliers uphold the same standards of quality. As a company scales up, quality failures become costlier and at the same time, use of data and statistics presents opportunities for immense savings. NVBOTS is a 3D Printer manufacturing startup that is currently at the juncture of ramping up its production volume. The skeleton of its product is, in effect, a three axis frame with sourced machined components that build it up. In this thesis, one axis was taken up as a case study to develop a framework for analysing incoming parts. The proposed framework has a logical progression starting with analysis of part features and inspection procedure followed by a study of existing supplier capability and subsequent correlation of part geometry to final frame geometry. To perform this analysis, past Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) data from measurement of incoming parts was compiled and used. This document also makes some actionable recommendations based on the output of the framework. These include use of software packages that can help facilitate and speed up the use of this framework through efficient data logging and real time analysis. Subsequently, future use of statistical tolerancing is suggested to enhance manufacturability while reducing costs and finally, certain additions of platform features to the product were suggested to make full use network effects as the organization scales up.

“Sampling Inspection” has been not only applied to the quality management for the industries in Taiwan, But also the inspections of the materials from the suppliers. As the raise of the high-tech industries, The manufacturing technology have been increased continuously. For the strict requirement of the quality the outdated traditional, Sampling Plan seems like can not satisfy the request in dudes high quality or zero defect from customers. On the other hand, Under the competitive condition of diversified quality, The competition of products may be decreased because of the inspection is to guarantee the quality of produces. From the view of inspection, Many experts think the new concept of quality control is to improve the quality of products from the supplier but the inspection. This research will focus on the electronic-related industries, and discuss the condition of application, The necessity and the advantage under the strict quality requirement by different condition factors, Such as the requirement of ISO the requirement from customers and the relationship between receivers and suppliers. We attend to define the role and the placement of Sampling Plan for the regular industries, and provide it as a reference of quality management and administration. We also hope it can be a contribution to the regular Industries in Taiwan.

Internet of things (IoT) has transformed greatly the improved way of business through machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. This vast network and its associated technologies have opened the doors to an increasing number of security threats which are dangerous to IoT and 5G wireless networks. The first part of this chapter presents instruction detection system (IDS) which detect the various attacks in 6LoWPAN layer. An IDS is to detect and analyze both inbound and outbound network traffic for abnormal activities. An IPS complements an IDS configuration by proactively inspecting a system's incoming traffic to weed out malicious requests. A typical IPS configuration uses web application firewalls and traffic filtering solutions to secure applications. An IPS prevents attacks by dropping malicious packets, blocking offending IPs and alerting security personnel to potential threats. Machine learning (ML)-based instruction detection and prevention system (IDPS) is proposed and implemented in Contiki simulation environment.

Abstract:
The 1st stage nozzle segments experience damage such as creep, fatigue, high temperature corrosion and foreign object damage in service. Amongst the other gas turbine components the 1st stage nozzle segments needs to be refurbished or repaired after stipulated number of running hours. The decision on the extent of repairs for the 1st stage nozzle segments are based on incoming inspection observations. There are various stages of incoming inspection which includes visual, dimensional and non-destructive testing methods. Metallographic evaluation is one of the most important incoming inspection method based on which the extent or class of repairs can be decided. The 1st stage nozzle segment material is FSX 414, which is a cobalt based alloy. It is critical to estimate the microstructural condition of the nozzle segments in the as received condition. As a part of incoming inspection sections at various locations are taken on the nozzle segments for metallographic evaluation. The microstructures are examined in the as received condition and after solution annealing heat treatment. Microstructural transformations and damages in terms of overheating, oxidation and hot corrosion can be identified at ease. The microstructural condition of the nozzle segments can thus be assessed after stipulated running hours. It is concluded that metallographic evaluation is effective in assessing the microstructural damage and proves to be vital in deciding the category of repairs. Typical microstructural evaluation case studies of 1st stage nozzle segments from Frame 5, 6001B and 7001EA gas turbine units are presented and discussed in this paper.

The GTCP331-200/250 auxiliary power unit (APU) is used to provide electrical power and compressed air for commercial aircraft, including the Boeing 757 and 767, and Airbus A310. The turbine section of this engine is a three stage axial flow configuration. Due to the combined effect of oxidation and erosion, the useful life of the first stage turbine blade may be limited by loss of material on the airfoil. The effect of material loss is reduction of the airfoil thickness and chord length. This paper discusses a repair that restores the airfoil dimensions by buildup with a physical vapor deposition coating. The repair process includes incoming dimensional inspection of the airfoil, physical vapor deposition with tapered thickness to restore airfoil dimensions, and post deposition processing. The evaluation includes airfoil dimensional inspection, metallographic verification of coating integrity, and finite element modeling to illustrate the effect of material buildup on different locations of the airfoil.

Abstract:
The composite pipe system, known as XPipe™, uses high-performance adhesives to manufacture a metallic composite pipe. Both technical development and a robust manufacturing quality system are required to ensure the safe use of such novel technology. Several aspects are discussed in this paper. Firstly, the use of ultra-high strength martensitic steels in a buried, cathodically protected environment requires an understanding of their susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement. A series of slow strain rate and constant load tests was performed under polarised conditions to establish any reduction in ductility over samples tested in air. The results are presented and implications for their use in such a system are discussed. Secondly, although the technology to perform quality welds in thin walled austenitic materials using automated orbital techniques is well established, weld inspection by radiographic techniques is not preferred due to the continuous nature of the process and safety considerations. However, the inspection of such welds by ultrasonic techniques is challenging due to the coarse grained nature of the austenitic welds and the thinness of the liner, well below the 6mm normally considered the minimum for conventional weld inspection. Therefore, Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) requires optimized ultrasonic techniques. AUT capabilities and recommendations towards an optimal inspection concept will be discussed in this paper. Thirdly, the manufacture of the liner, ultra-high strength steel strip and adhesive into the XPipe™ composite pipe requires a robust manufacturing control system, which maintains traceability of the incoming materials and controls and records all the essential parameters during pipe production. This is achieved using a sophisticated SCADA system, using feedback from a variety of sensors.

Abstract:
Abstract Reverse Engineering (RE) may help tolerance inspection during production by digitalization of analyzed components and their comparison with design requirements. RE techniques are already applied for geometrical and tolerance shape control. Plastic injection molding is one of the fields where it may be applied, in particular for die set-up of multi-cavities, since no severe accuracy is required for the acquisition system. In this field, RE techniques integrated with Computer-Aided tools for tolerancing and inspection may contribute to the so-called “Smart Manufacturing”. Their integration with PLM and suppliers’ incoming components may set the information necessary to evaluate each component and die. Intensive application of shape digitalization has to front several issues: accuracy of data acquisition hardware and software; automation of experimental and post-processing steps; update of industrial protocol and workers knowledge among others. Concerning post-processing automation, many advantages arise from computer vision, considering that it is based on the same concepts developed in a RE post-processing (detection, segmentation and classification). Recently, deep learning has been applied to classify point clouds, considering object and/or feature recognition. This can be made in two ways: with a 3D voxel grid, increasing regularity, before feeding data to a deep net architecture; or acting directly on point cloud. Literature data demonstrate high accuracy according to net training quality. In this paper, a preliminary study about CNN for 3D points segmentation is provided. Their characteristics have been compared to an automatic approach that has been already implemented by the authors in the past. VoxNet and PointNet architectures have been compared according to the specific task of feature recognition for tolerance inspection and some investigations on test cases are discussed to understand their performance.

Reel-laying is a fast and cost effective method to install pipelines since the time consuming operations of welding and inspection are conducted onshore. During reel-laying repeated plastic strain is introduced into a pipeline which may affect strength and ductility of the line pipe material. Based on the experience, it has been shown that the small-scale reeling test procedure according to DNV-OS-F101 [1] is a good way to inspect the mechanical properties for the reel-laying process. Coupons from pipes are loaded in tension and compression tests and aged if required. Specimens for mechanical testing are machined from these coupons and tested according to the corresponding standards. This paper demonstrates current efforts to demonstrate the usability of cold-formed HFI pipes from Salzgitter Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH (MLP) for the reel-laying process. In a first step the results of the pre-strained materials are compared in extensive material tests with the undeformed incoming materials. The effect of thermal aging from the coating process on the reeling behavior is then examined, in relation to the background of thermal aging. In discussing the difference between compression and tension zone of the reeled pipe, the influence according to the load conditions is analyzed by the material property tests. This paper demonstrates current efforts of the availability for use of cold-formed HFI pipes for the real-laying process. In addition, the report notes the difference and the effects of the material properties to testing according to the strain-based or stress-based load conditions. In discussing the influence of the tempered conditions of the mechanical properties, therefore two different pipe conditions are investigated by the small scale-reeling (SSR) testing procedure. In summary the results of the pre-strain materials are comparable with the unformed incoming materials.

Abstract:
Reliability of equipment is indispensable for the uninterrupted operation of any oil & gas producing facility. Over a period of time, some oil wells producing sour crude were also added to the incoming feed of Gathering centres, which were originally designed for processing sweet crude. Most of the facilities were designed and installed prior to the publication of NACE MR 0175 and NACE TM 0284. As these facilities are still in operation under sour condition, it is prudent to take necessary measures in time for continuing safe operation of these facilities. In this paper, the authors share their experience in initial detection & online monitoring of service-induced damages to the equipments due to sour service using NDT techniques like Wet Fluorescent Magnetic Particle Inspection, manual ultrasonic testing and time of flight diffraction & Phased Array. The experience gathered during internal coating of the vessels has also been described. Several items of equipment continued in operation to maintain production even after the detection of Hydrogen induced cracking. Periodic monitoring and critical analysis of inspection data provided confidence to continue operation of equipment. This enabled the operating company to extract maximum life of the equipment without compromising on safety. This Paper focuses on two items of equipment, HP Gas Scrubber from Oil/Gas separation plant and HP Gas Discharge Cooler from CRU. Fitness for Service (FFS) evaluations were carried out for HP Scrubber and the Channel head component of HP Gas Discharge cooler. The analysis was based upon the latest UT scan results and guidelines prescribed in API 579-1/ASME FFS-1. These items of equipment were found not fit for further service. In the interim period, the company procured new scrubber and channel head of the cooler for replacement thus minimizing the shutdown period.
