Abstract:
The article is about tradition and modernity. Tradition and modernity are two concepts that can be used to best describe the way of living in Eswatini. The traditional Emaswati believe and also practise their different cultures. The modern Emaswati are living like their former colonizers. Ntwanambi, Joseph. "Umngqungqo, yincwadi (Just those two words)." African Music : Journal of the International Library of African Music 10, no. 1 (2015). http://dx.doi.org/10.21504/amj.v10i1.2148.

Full text
Abstract:
This is a very short recording of just the two words umngqungqo and incwadi, each said several times. The words are umngqungqo, the dance from girls’ initiation, and incwadi, a letter. The recordings began with a song from umngqungqo and incwadi was the final word of the words on Track 7. One is tempted to let one’s imagination go to work: Joseph Ntwanambi, the hungry prisoner far from home, may have been thinking of a girl whom he had hoped to marry. She would be available for marriage after her initiation. He had found work, and now he had the oxen he needed for the bride price.

Abstract:
This dissertation aims to critically evaluate the Incwala Sacred Ceremony and its relevancy to Ancestral Veneration in the life of the Swazi Nation. Swazis to a greater extent are believed to be quite obsessed about their cultural heritage. They view this cultural event as sacred and very important in their national unity and pride of being a sovereign entity. They religiously observe this rite as an integral part of their cultural heritage and see it as a vital glue that holds together the national unity and cements the eternity of the Swazis' existence.
