Abstract:
The study presents a comprehensive analysis of independent infinitive structures with nonfinite predicates, focusing on their syntactic, pragmatic, and stylistic aspects. These clauses, which exhibit interrogative and exclamatory features, are characterized by non-standard syntax, granting them a unique place within the system of English sentences. The paper categorizes these units into three groups: 1) Infinitive structures with the particle “to” at the front (To + infinitive); 2) Infinitive structures with a topical subject (S + to + infinitive); 3) Structures with “Why + (not) + infinitive?

Linguists’ interest in the indefinite form of the verb remains undiminished – this topic is still relevant today. Linguists continue to debate its functional use. The syntactic multi functionality of the independent infinitive and the resulting disagreements among linguists give rise to disputes when differentiating between impersonal and infinitive sentences. Interest in the semantics of infinitive sentences – which are diverse, multifaceted, and thus open to an expanding list of semantic groups within the system of infinitive sentences and their descriptions – doesn’t fade away. Abstract:
The Romanian and Bulgarian languages share common features stemming from the Balkan linguistic aria. Among the distinctive grammatical constructions in Balkan languages is the new-type analytic subjunctive, a replacement for the infinitive in various languages such as Romanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Albanian, and Greek. The subjunctive can manifest in present, imperfect, perfect, and pluperfect tenses in most languages. However, Romanian has more limited combinations, employing only the present and perfect tenses. Despite these differences, the subjunctive shares structural, semantic, and usa

The article examines the verbs included in the structure of the semantic field of thinking, namely the basic verbs to think and thinking, complicated by the prefix y-, based on the material of Russian texts of different genres. The subject of the study is the following values of situational modality (the so–called semantic X) - the invariant value of desirability, as well as the value of the opportunity realized by derivatives to conceive, to think in the process of communication. The purpose of the work is to reveal the specifics and conditions of the modal functioning of these verbs. Achievi

This paper explores the distribution of deverbal nouns and nominalized infinitives that are built on transitive verbs and occur in eventive interpretations. The study is empirically oriented and based on an acceptability judgment experiment in which argument realization and interpretational possibilities are manipulated as the independent variables. The results show that deverbal nouns prefer but are not limited to realizing the lower argument of the base, whereas nominalized infinitives are mostly restricted to realizing the higher argument. Furthermore, deverbal nouns turn out to be insensit

The study dealt with the analysis of morphophonemic processes in Dholuo and Suba languages of Rusinga Island, Homa Bay County –Kenya. The study was guided by three objectives, namely: to analyze Dholuo and Suba phonology, to contrastively analyze verbs of Dholuo and Suba languages and to examine the lexical structures of Dholuo and Suba languages. The study employed independent parallel theory. This theory clarifies the fact that all languages share some common and obvious similarities as a result of sharing one common origin. The study employed both purposive and random sampling techniq

The reflection of environmental events occurs in language through the prism of the category of evaluation, which is traditionally interpreted as a result of linguistic expression of logical-philosophical evaluative judgments. In contemporary linguistics, linguoaxiology is actively developing, with its component, the grammar of evaluation, being presented as an independent scientific direction that explores the morphology and syntax of evaluation. This research is primarily focused on the morphology of grammar. Among the parts of speech containing a powerful evaluative potential, the Ukrainian

Abstract. This paper contains a detailed description and proposes a theoretical account of constructions in Germanic and Romance adult registers in which an inflected verb form is absent in an obligatorily matrix context. These structures contain an infinitival verb form only, tend to be employed as exclamative clause types and are consequently referred to as "Infinitival Excla ma lives". The proposal revolves around a phonetically unrealized modal element facilitating the irrealis mood construed with Infinitival Exclamatives. Abstract The squib investigates the dialectal distribution of the Dutch construction type het kan/mag/moet, lit. ‘it can/may/must’, where a modal verb occurs ‘independently’ with an eventive subject and no infinitival complement. The construction is shown to be widely attested not only in traditional dialects of Dutch, but also in Frisian, Low German, and Afrikaans. We suggest that the construction, which does not occur in standard German or English, is an areal feature shared by the West Germanic vernaculars of northwestern Germany and the Low Countries, including the South African ‘side bran

Abstract In [Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal., 46 (2019), 664673] O. Christensen and M. Hasannasab observed that assuming the existence of an operator T sending en to e n +1 for all n ∈ ℕ (where (e n ) n ∈ℕ is a sequence of vectors) guarantees that (e n ) n ∈ℕ is linearly independent if and only if dim{e n } n ∈ℕ = ∞. In this article, we recover this result as a particular case of a general order-theory-based model-theoretic result. We then return to the context of vector spaces to show that, if we want to use a condition like T(e i ) = e ϕ ( i ) for all i ∈ I where I is countable as a replacement
