Abstract The time-independent perturbation theory is developed for an arbitrary operator which can be expanded in powers of the perturbation parameter λ. A unified formulation allows the establishment of a formal interrelation between the methods of Rayleigh-Schrödinger and of Bril louin-Wigner. We introduce a nonunitary transformation operator to connect the nth eigenket of Ĥ(0) with the nth eigenket of Ĥ(λ) and it is proven that this operator satisfies a Lippmann-Schwinger type equation. A perturbation method based on this equation is proposed, and it is applied to describe an electron movi

It has been shown earlier that Noether symmetry does not admit a form of corresponding to an action in which is coupled to scalar-tensor theory of gravity or even for pure theory of gravity taking anisotropic model into account. Here, we prove that theory of gravity does not admit Noether symmetry even if it is coupled to tachyonic field and considering a gauge in addition. To handle such a theory, a general conserved current has been constructed under a condition which decouples higher-order curvature part from the field part. This condition, in principle, solves for the scale-factor independ

AbstractWe derive the formulas for the energy and wavefunction of the time-independent Schrödinger equation with perturbation in a compact form. Unlike the conventional approaches based on Rayleigh–Schrödinger or Brillouin–Wigner perturbation theories, we employ a recently developed approach of matrix-valued Lagrange multipliers that regularizes an eigenproblem. The Lagrange-multiplier regularization makes the characteristic matrix for an eigenproblem invertible. An iterative method for time-independent perturbation theory is presented. Lennard-Jones–Brillouin–Wigner (LBW) and Rayleigh–Schrödinger (RS) power series are shown to be particular cases of the iteration and the combined expansion–iteration. Improvements in convergence of the power series are suggested and analyzed. The iterative method gives considerable insight into the nature and relative convergence of the currently used time-independent perturbation methods.

We discuss the meaning of the strong equivalence principle when applied to a quantum field theory. We show that, because of unitary inequivalence of accelerated frames, the only way for the strong equivalence principle to apply exactly is to add a boundary term representing the decoherence of degrees of freedom leaving the observable region of the bulk. We formulate the constraints necessary for the partition function to be covariant with respect to non-inertial transformations and argue that, when the non-unitary part is expressed as a functional integral over the horizon, holography arises n

Not only does this greatly simplify the derivation of PT expressions for energies and wave functions, but it does so without using the orthogonality or completeness properties of unperturbed Hamiltonian eigenstates, which form

The resolution of this conflict requires the introduction of new gauge degrees of freedom together with an enlarged gauge symmetry. This suggests more general
