Background: Surgical treatment of refractory slow transit constipation (STC) is traditionally performed using end-to-side ileorectal anastomosis (SE-IRA) with total abdominal colectomy (TAC). Antiperistaltic side-to-side (SS) IRA is suggested to be a superior approach.
