We give an elementary example of ILEC using folding product, and a technique to modify ILECs with symmetric monoidal comonads. AbstractClimate change threatens development and economic growth in Africa. It increases risks for individuals and governments with unprecedented negative impacts on agriculture. Specifically, climate change presents a major threat to food security in Africa for the long term due to the low adaptive capacity to deal with successive climate shocks. There is a need for greater awareness of the trends of food crisis patterns and adaptive initiatives. The objective of this chapter was to analyze the trends of the food crisis in Africa within the past 10 years and adaptive initiatives. Quantitative data analyzed for food security indicators were obtained from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Development Indicators (WDI) available at the Environment and Climate Change data portal. Policy and adaptation measures related to climate change were reviewed in 26 countries in Africa, with the view to highlight their integrative nature in enhancing food security. High prevalence of undernourishment was observed in six countries, all in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) including Chad, Liberia, Central African Republic, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Countries with a high land acreage under cereal production recorded reduced undernourishment. Niger demonstrated effective adaptation for food security by registering the highest crop production index in extreme climate variability. However, Kenya appears to be the most predisposed by registering both high climate variability and below average crop production index. It is observed that diversification and technology adoption are key strategies applied across the countries for adaptation. However, the uptake of technology by smallholder farmers is still low across many countries in SSA.

Abstract:
Corruption is a human phenomenon that covers the whole world. It is a fact that public corruption gains more prominence than private corruption, because the state has the duty of accountability in a transparent way to taxpayers. As a result of this, the authors focus on the analysis of public corruption, which involves agents and public resources of the state. Therefore, this study has the main objective to verify if there is a relationship between IPC corruption (corruption perception index) and HDI (human development index), which posits the hypothesis that the greater the corruption, the lower the HDI indexes. In addition to the CPI and HDI variables, they also analyze the GDP of the countries in a secondary way. The global data analyzed indicate a high correlation between greater corruption and a lower index of human development, which may suggest problems of accountability.

Inverted index is used in most Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) to achieve the fast query response time. In inverted index, compression schemes are used to improve the efficiency of IRS. In this chapter, the authors study and analyze various compression techniques that are used for indexing. They also present a new compression technique that is based on FastPFOR called New FastPFOR. The storage structure and the integers' representation of the proposed method can improve its performances both in compression and decompression. The study on existing works shows that the recent research works provide good results either in compression or in decoding, but not in both. Hence, their decompression performance is not fair. To achieve better performance in decompression, the authors propose New FastPFOR in this chapter. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, they experiment with TREC collections. The results show that the proposed method could achieve better decompression performance than the existing techniques.

Abstract:
Starting zone sizes are shown to obey statistical laws, named “power laws”, stating that the recurrence time of an event of a given size increases in a precise proportion with its size. Extrapolation of such laws fitted on small-sized events allows a determination of recurrence times for big and uncommon events. The key role of the weak layer (WL) failure is illustrated by “Propagation Saw Tests” (PST), showing that the collapse of a WL zone of a few decimeters may act as a switch, triggering a very large scale spontaneous WL failure. However, the consequences of such a collapse may be damped down by sintering of broken WL grains. We analyze bridging indexes, often used to estimate WL resistance to collapse under loading. We define a new bridging index, extending the usual one to the case of elastic bending, and we discuss the validity domains of both of them.

Abstract:
To analyze residual vibrations of rotational, globoidal cam indexing mechanisms (GCIMs) with/without torque balancing cam (TBC) systems operated at high speeds, a simulation tool together with experimental verification has been established. In the analysis of the vibrational responses of such a rotational indexer, a 5-DOF model is built to account for the non-rigid behavior of the motor shaft, the coupling of the motor, the input shaft of the indexer, the TBC system, and the output shaft of the indexer with its load. Equations of motion of the model are formulated based on the bond graph metho

The aim of this contribution is to analyze and evaluate the success and position of cities of Visegrad Group in the Smart City indices. The concept of Smart Cities has been anchored in regional sciences in order to improve the management of cities. The so-called Smart City rankings determine the degree of smartness or the degree of fulfilment of individual attributes of the Smart City concept. These Smart City attributes are presented and correlated with Smart City concept definitions. In order to be able to interpret the Smart City indices, it is necessary to pay attention in this paper to th

Letos mineva štiri leta, kar je NIJZ prevzel upravljanje rešitev eZdravja v Sloveniji. Pripravili smo poglobljeno analizo uporabe najpomembnejših rešitev eZdravja, z njimi povezanih izzivov in prihodnjih usmeritev. Raziskava je pokazala velik napredek pri uporabi in doseganje kratkoročnih ciljev projekta eZdravje. Deleža e-receptov in e-napotnic presegata 90%. Abstract In previous studies we have considered several types of positive displacement rotary pumps and deeply analyzed the generation of the flow rate and the design limits. This has been done in order to evaluate the main performance indexes: one of these, the flow rate irregularity, is related to the possibility that the pump becomes a source of vibration and noise. A second index is the specific flow rate, related to the delivery capacity of the pump. In this paper, following our previous researches, we analyze internal involute gear pumps and internal lobe pumps, that have similar way to

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of body posture on comfort during road cycling by implementing procedures that require only basic instrumentation. Static comfort and dynamic comfort were studied through experimental and computational approaches, respectively. For the experimental approach, subjective rating scales and an objective index proposed by the authors were used to assess static comfort. For the computational approach, a lumped-mass model with four degrees of freedom was implemented to compute the vertical acceleration of the bicycle and cyclist. The vertical acc

Abstract:
The convergence of a favorable macroeconomic environment and high prices of primary commodities between 2000 and 2011 contributed to the best performance of agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) since the 1980s, with steady growth of total factor productivity (TFP) and output per worker and a reduction in the use of input per worker. The end of the upward phase of the commodity cycle in 2011 together with less favorable external markets and a deterioration of the policy environment in several countries, motivates us to revisit the situation of agriculture in LAC in recent years

This paper applies probit regression models to a nationally representative household survey dataset collected in 2016-2017 to analyze the relationships between various socio-demographic variables and adult Body Mass Index (BMI) in Suriname. Our results indicate that women, the elderly, and couples either married and/or living together are more likely to be obese or overweight. As expected, this is also true for individuals who have chronic illnesses. The analysis also finds that individuals who engage in a sport or in other forms of exercise, even if modest, have lower odds of being overweight
