Abstract:
This dissertation will explore how gender wage gap and political capacity represented by relative political extraction affect change in economic growth rate of a country. The main argument of the study is that gender wage gap is affecting the labor market by discouraging productive female labor force from entering the labor market. This in turn affects the efficiency and productivity of the labor market reflected in negative economic growth or economic growth potential being compromised. Here the case of Indian economy is examined. The important policy implication of this study is that it coul

Abstract:
This paper examines the performance of Indian banks by studying the effects of recent reforms and macroeconomic events. Indian banks went through a period of reforms in the past twenty years. The impact of these reforms and major macroeconomic events has been examined using time-series analysis. Event studies offer additional perspective on the short-run effect of the events on different types of Indian banks. Although, the event dates are not all statistically significant in the time-series regressions, the demonetization of 2016 is significant in the event study analysis. Thus, while reforms

Abstract:
This thesis presents three core chapters on aspects of India's post-reform industrial performance. The key motivations for the thesis are to validate the differential impacts of both state level policies and industrial characteristics on industrial performance, and to investigate the evolution of the industrial structure itself in the post-reforms decade. Empirical analysis in all three chapters is disaggregated at both industry and at state levels, using an unbalanced panel of 15 Indian states, 22 industries at the 2-digit level of the National Industrial Classification (NIC), and an 11-year

Abstract:
This research shows how Indian self-conceptions of 'greatness' have been derivative of India's own readings of an appropriate global role for itself at different periods during its history, rather than sourced from the dominant norms of 'great powerhood' in international society. It attempts to show how apparent shifts in India's identity can most aptly be understood as a process of India acquiring the material markers of a great power rather than actually becoming a great power. According to this reading, the Indian case diverges from the processes of socialisation typically associated with r
