This thesis examines the political and social worldview of British and Indian royalty during the nineteenth century. Food frequency questionnaires and twenty-four hour recalls were conducted with a random sample of 104 Ojibwe adults in Mille Lacs, Minnesota and Lac Courte Oreilles, Wisconsin to assess traditional and market food use. Sociocultural questionnaires were used to assess the cultural significance of traditional food. The importance of the traditional food system was evident, with at least 50% of people engaging in hunting and fishing practices. Using a Geographic Information System (GIS), locational analysis was performed for prehistoric sites recorded during a 1985 surface survey conducted in Henry County, Indiana. In 1988, ninety ground-water samples were collected in northern Daviess County, Indiana. Sampled wells were completed in the Pennsylvanian Age Racoon Creek Group and underlying Mississippian units. Historic concrete fence posts were created in the early twentieth century. This study examined how they were constructed and who constructed them. A survey of Randolph county, Indiana was conducted in order to determine the possible construction methods. Literature sources indicate that farmers were encouraged to construct concrete posts on their own. This study examined the BMI, dietary habits, body perception, physical activity patterns, and nutrition knowledge and opinions of 599 fourth grade public school students in Wells County, Indiana, in 2003-04 and 2005-06. Participants completed the School Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) survey and had their height and weight measured. Almost half (49.9%) of the participants were at risk for or were overweight. Shale samples from three Upper Pennsylvanian assemblages overlying the Danville (No. 7) Coal Member in Sullivan County, Indiana were compared with respect to miospore content. Eight samples from each of the Hawthorn, Dugger and Minnehaha mines were chemically macerated and analyzed for pollen/spore content. A total of 108 species assigned to 40 genera were recovered.
