This paper fundamentally investigates the intricate relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Developed nations utilize FDI as a mechanism for transferring data and advanced technologies to developing economies, simultaneously optimizing labour costs and accessing new markets. Employing a 2x2 General Equilibrium Model, this study demonstrates that FDI inflows into a small, open economy will stimulate expansion in the capital-intensive AI sector while concurrently contracting the non-AI sector. Foreign direct investment has been crucial to the expansion of many countries in the current universal environment. This is essential for emerging and poor nations. The reality is that these developing and undeveloped economies typically lack the income and savings levels sufficient to support the degree of investment necessary to sustain economic growth. When this happens, FDI is crucial in linking the gap between the available and required incomes or finances. These constraints also impede domestic investment in hospitals. From the second half of the 20th century, foreign direct investment (fdi) has gone to the developing countries and has affected economic growth. The so-called effect has taken attention of some researchers and they have provided a considerable amount of papers for growth literature. Hence, theories about fdi were improved by scientists. In this paper, the long run relationship between fdi and growth in Turkey for the years 1980-2011will be examined. The method used for investigating the relationship is Johansen coentegration. The variables are the growth rate of GDP per person (y), foreign dir

Abstract:
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a type of external finance that is desired by all countries in order to accelerate capital accumulation and increase production, employment, and technological capacity. In the development process of the Turkish economy, FDI remained limited until the 1980s, and after this date, policy changes were made, and significant increases were experienced within the framework of the regulations and developments. Especially in the 2002-2015 period, it was seen that FDI to Turkey was the scene of historical records. With the last quarter of the 2010s, these increases slo

This policy brief is part of a two-part series analysing the history and current situation of Japanese foreign direct investment (FDI), and its potential role in India’s economy. The previous part found that while Japan has become a major investor in India over the recent decades, top-level political relations in the past had limited impact on India’s actual ability to attract Japanese foreign direct investment. This policy brief examines the factors that determine Japanese companies’ willingness to establish or increase their presence in India. It finds that India’s dynamically growing market

There is a growing recognition that offshore structures fundamentally distort the world map of foreign direct investment (FDI). This paper advances efforts to map the ultimate owners hidden in official data behind offshore or ‘phantom’ FDI by using a novel methodology to deconstruct the ultimate origins of FDI in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Russia, India, and China. In contrast to previous studies, this methodology unpicks distortions created by the offshore re-domiciliation of corporate groups at the parent level, in addition to subsidiary level, by determining the ‘true’ ulti

This paper studies the proposition that capital inflows tend to take the form of FDI -i.e., the share of FDI in total liabilities tends to be higher- in countries that are safer, more promising and with better institutions and policies. It finds that this view is patently wrong since it stands the historical record on its head. It then uses alternative theories to make sense of the facts. It begins by studying the determinants of the size and composition of the flows of private capital across countries. It finds that while capital flows tend to go to countries that are safer and have better in

This study empirically examines how the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has impacted foreign direct investment (FDI). The authors find heterogeneous effects of COVID-19 on FDI by sector and entry mode. The severity of COVID-19 in host countries negatively affected both greenfield FDI and cross-border mergers and acquisitions in the manufacturing sector. But the situation of home countries did not seem to matter. Greenfield FDI in the service sector was affected by the situation in both host and home countries.

Abstract:
As the globalization of the world economy proceeds apace, Colombia must cope with an increasingly competitive international economic environment. The need to compete for highly mobile international capital is an essential component of the fiscal landscape in all countries in today's global economy, especially those which, like Colombia, depend on foreign direct investment (FDI). This paper focuses on the effects of the tax system in Colombia on FDI. However, tax policy is far from the only factor affecting the foreign direct investment decisions of multinational corporations. Accordingly, befo

The main objective of this study is to analyze the relevance of economic and institutional factors in shaping the dynamics of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). To this end, several econometric analyses are conducted to examine the determinants of FDI inflows. The results indicate that, across a panel of countries, factors such as market size, exchange rate policy, the degree of trade openness, and the quality of public governance including political stability, adherence to the rule of law, government efficiency, and regulatory quality are decisive for attracting foreign capital. Liberalizing measures have been outnumbering by far the introduction of greater restrictions. However, the reports are silent on how liberal the policy regimes of individual countries really are and how they have been changing over time. This paper tackles this issue. The authors propose an ordinal index of the degree of openness of foreign direct investment (FDI) regimes, which they measure for 111 countries, both developed, developing, and in transition. They show the evolution of the index between 1990, 1996, and 2002 in three developing regions (Africa, Asia and Latin America), in transiti

Abstract:
China has recently become the third largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world and is a major source of development aid for developing countries, including those in the Caribbean. The capital flows it provides have taken the form of loans to governments to finance infrastructure projects and to expand production of oil and other raw materials. There have been indications of interest in further investment in the Caribbean from Chinese enterprises and entrepreneurs. This is driven by both state policy, which seeks to more actively integrate China into the global economy, and
