Abstract:
Growth of every economy in the world depends on the performance of the industrial sector. Micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a significant role in the growth of each economy. There is a huge unorganised sector of MSMEs in India, which comes from those industries that are not registered under the MSME platform. Data related to MSMEs are required to check the growth and analyse the performance of MSMEs and collect the data related to growth, while it is necessary that all the MSMEs must be registered on a common platform. Thus, the Indian government forces industries to register on the MSME portal to get the benefit of government schemes. The study on the growth and future prospectus of MSME units registered under Entrepreneurs Memorandum (EM-II) and Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) is hardly available. Therefore, this research exclusively emphasises on the growth and future prospects of registered units of MSMEs in India. Data involving registered units of MSMEs are analysed for the period from 2007–2008 to 2020–2021. Data are obtained from MSME online portal and annual reports of this sector. Future projection of registered units of MSMEs is figured out by applying projected technique.

Abstract:
Micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSME's) have unquestionably become a significant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy. In addition, this industry is extremely crucial to India's economic growth because it employs more people than the agriculture industry. The industry also generates one-third of all export earnings, accounts for around 8% of GDP, and aids in a number of other goals, like promoting exports, increasing employment output, encouraging entrepreneurship chances, etc. The main benefit and function of this sector is the possibility of low-cost employment. MSME's sector does, however, face a number of difficulties, such as high raw material costs, collateral requirements, rising fuel prices, competition from both domestic and foreign markets, a lack of credit facilities from financial institutions, etc. Every day, 79 MSMEs fall ill due to financial issues; although the government has taken numerous measures to help this sector, the issue still exists. Without unemployment growth and environmental concerns, India may not be able to fulfill its sustainable development target. MSMEs are a crucial component of maintaining sustainable development since they increase economic growth, create jobs, combat poverty, and lessen inequality. Sustainable development is possible through inclusive growth that upholds prosperity and human dignity. The study's goal is to evaluate MSMEs' performance and their contribution to India's continued sustainable growth. The survey also emphasizes MSMEs' usage of sustainable practices. The current article looks into MSME performance metrics, their potential economic impact, and other initiatives different parties have done to support MSME development in India

Abstract:
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) are the backbone of every economy. Financial inclusion of MSMEs is essential for any country aspiring to economic development. Innovative solutions offered by fintech companies can support the financial inclusion of MSMEs. Digital payments, alternative loans, insurance, investments, regulatory, and robo-advisory services are just a few of the services that fintech companies provide to MSMEs. The purpose of this studyis to examine the role of financial technology on registered micro, small, and medium enterprises in India. The objective of the study is to reveal the behaviour of MSMEs towards financial technology acceptance and show how various demographic variables of owners/managers influence the acceptance of financial technology in the case of MSMEs. The methodological basis of the study is a management survey of 117 MSMEs in India. The questionnaire had 25 questions; measurement items used in the questionnaire were derived from previous studies carried out in developing countries. The results were processed and tested for significance using modern econometric methods such as the Kruskal-Wallis H test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. The result of the study indicates that the financial technology acceptance rate among the MSME sector is high as maximum MSMEs consider themselves moderate financial technology adopters. MSMEs have a high understanding of different financial services provided by fintech companies. Prior Experience of the owner/manager, brand familiarity, government support, and behavioural variables such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, trust, and satisfaction was proved to be effective while adopting financial technology services whereas, demographic variables such as gender, age, education level of owner/manager was found to be ineffective. The study concludes that fintech companies are providing quality services by acting as a single window, supporting the financial needs of MSMEs at low interest rates, simplified processes and lower transaction costs. MSMEs are using fintech products and services as a key part of their financial management, with increasing adoption there is a growing opportunity for fintech companies, incumbents, and non-financial organisations. The result of the study contributes to the novel understanding of the acceptance and preference of the MSME sector towards financial technology.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on identifying the potential markets for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The main purpose of the research is to present the commodities and potential destinations that Indian MSMEs can tap on to broaden their business and eventually to the overall growth of the country. Systematization of the literary sources as a part of the study indicates that MSMEs have made a significant contribution to the country’s GDP and trade. A survey of the approaches for solving the objective of the research reveals that trade indices and CGE models are the most appropriate when it comes to trade policy analysis. The relevance of this scientific problem decision is that Indian MSME’s contribute to more than 30% of India’s GDP and enhancing MSME exports would help the country achieve an inclusive, socio-economic growth. Investigation of the topic in the paper is carried out in the following logical sequence: We first analyze the commodities that have a potential for growth and then move ahead to analyze the promising markets. To perform quantitative analysis, we use trade indices and estimations from Computable General Equilibrium -GTAP (Global Trade Analysis Project) model. To analyze potential commodities, we use Product Space Analysis with three indicators, namely, the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Revealed Trade Advantage (RTA), and Market Demand Index. To analyze the potential markets, we use the Export potential indicator and GTAP estimates for the years 2022-27. The object of the research is to empower MSMEs in India with insights and data about the potential markets and commodities for export from India. The paper shows that MSMEs have a higher potential for exports in textiles and clothing, food products, vegetables, and other agricultural products, and machinery and electrical equipment sectors. In terms of markets, our analysis reveals that MSMEs have a broad scope in the UAE, China, Bangladesh, and the USA.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to investigate how digital capabilities impact the performance of Indian MSMEs in the current "new normal" context, with a specific focus on the firm-level perspective. The study aims to explore the relationship between digitalization and firm performance while identifying the key elements that contribute to the effective implementation of digitalization in the MSME sector. A seven-point Likert scale questionnaire was provided to top and middle managers working in Indian MSMEs in order to collect data. The collected data, comprised of 250 usable questionnaires, was analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. The analysis of the data reveals a positive correlation between digitalization, managerial proficiency, and the performance of MSMEs. Additionally, it demonstrates that digitalization moderates the relationship between technological preparedness, implementation charges, and MSMEs' performance. However, the performance of the Manufacturing segment within MSMEs and digitalization are not significantly impacted by managerial tendency, according to the study. This study is the first of its kind to examine managerial propensity as a moderator of digitalization and MSMEs' performance. The findings highlight the importance of digital skills for MSMEs and offer insightful information about the obstacles to their successful digital transformation. It highlights the importance for MSME managers, owners, policymakers, and practitioners to understand these barriers and effectively overcome them. The findings of this study hold practical implications for MSME managers and owners, policymakers, and practitioners. They provide valuable guidance in comprehending the obstacles that MSMEs encounter in achieving successful digital transformation. By addressing these barriers, stakeholders can offer support to MSMEs in leveraging digital capabilities to enhance their performance and competitiveness within the current "new normal" context.

Small Industries are more vulnerable ones as it dealt a body blow because of Covid-19 and the resultant lockdown. It is difficult for them to survive without assistance. This is because, they are unable to cope up with the difficulties that are forced on them as their survival is difficult even in normal times but now they are dealing with something so unexpected. The significance of MSMEs sector in boosting Indian economy cannot be ignored. Unless we strengthen the MSME sector, it is very little that the economy will have to look forward to. Abstract:
This research paper aims to understand all the factors preventing micro, small and medium enterprises from growing despite their great potential, the possible existence of any internal or domestic differences in the way the entrepreneurs from various Indian communities approach business. The question remains whether there are any external or domestic differences in their entrepreneurial orientations. The work also presents some policy-based suggestions to solve such issues that hinder the magnification potential of MSME units. The MSME units offer jobs to more than seven people. However, they do not grow because of many difficulties discussed in this paper. Due to the lack of opportunities, MSMEs are unable to attract foreign investments. MSMEs can stop the migration of young people coming from rural areas to urban cities if MSMEs get developed. MSMEs represent a high-priority sector of the growing and developing economy. Therefore, we need to focus on this sector to transform developing India into a developed country. This paper is an attempt to analyze the reasons for the difficulties of MSMEs.

The outburst of COVID-19 has not only distressed the economic and social activities of Indian economy but also the world economy as a whole. Out of different economic activities, the micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected a lot. This article attempts to measure the contribution of MSMEs towards Indian economy and also attempts to find out the challenges and problems in pre- and during COVID period. We have used different descriptive statistics to measure the impacts of MSMEs and also use of correlation and co-integration to measure the relationship among the variables such as number of MSMEs, investment amount, employment and output. This pandemic is an exceptional shock for MSMEs. It is evident that there is a high degree of significant positive correlation among the variables. Johansen’s co-integration analysis resulted in the rejection of the null hypothesis signifying the existence of long-run co-integrating relationship. Given the extensive COVID-19 chaos, the government needs to establish an ongoing monitoring system and declare urgent relief steps to improve the MSMEs sector’s confidence. E-market linkage for MSMEs should be promoted, and fiscal stimulus should increase for this sector. The Government of India should take various measures to improve Indian MSMEs and achieve the vision of Self-reliant India.

Abstract:
The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector has developed as a vibrant sector of the Indian economy and is an essential engine of the economy. It contributes significantly to the growth of entrepreneurship and creates the second-largest number of job opportunities. In 2019-2020, the MSME sector will contribute considerably to the development of the Indian economy, accounting for 95 percent of industrial units with an extensive network of 63 million firms, 29 percent of GDP, and nearly 49.8% of exports employing roughly 111 million people. Because the global economy is slowing, it should emphasize growing the MSME sector to improve job opportunities, particularly for young people. These MSMEs create employment possibilities and aid in industrialization in rural areas, reducing income inequality among inhabitants. MSMEs contribute considerably to the development of the Indian economy through exports, domestic production, minimal investment requirements, operational flexibility, and technology-oriented firms, among other things. So, this paper has attempted to understand the role of MSMEs in providing employment opportunities and pushing toward the country's inclusive development. The data for the study has been collected from various secondary sources such as government websites, magazines, multiple reports, and newspapers. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and co-integration analysis were used in the study. The result shows, Have MSMEs created job opportunities in the economy? Abstract:
There is a growing and worldwide appreciation that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises play a catalytic role in the development process of most economies. This position gets reflected in the form of their increasing number and rising proportion in the overall product manufacturing, exports, manpower employment, technical innovations and promotion of entrepreneurial skills. This paper attempts to look at the changing definition of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the role these enterprises are playing in the growth story of our economy. In India, the MSME sector is the second largest manpower employer, after agriculture and the output from this sector alone constitutes 40 percent share of the value added in the manufacturing sector and one third of national exports. The importance of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSME) for its contribution in the Indian economy growth is a matter of record and needs no further elaboration. However, with the changing focus from economic growth to inclusive growth, MSME sector’s role in the socio economic development of India needs to be understood, explored and facilitated. The opportunity in MSMEs exists, however, the fact remains that most of the funding goes to the larger and more solvent MSMEs and to those who have business linkages with large corporate. The banks compete with each other to grant loans to the top rung MSMEs.

They constitute 95 percent of total industrial units, provide huge employment opportunities and contribute significantly to GDP. Prior research indicates that B2B e-marketplace offers ample opportunities for MSMEs to access global markets and enhances their competitiveness. There is limited empirical research on B2B e-marketplace use by Indian MSMEs, as also on the factors that influence their adoption. As adoption of B2B e-marketplace is in its growth stage in India, there is a need to understand the factors that influence the adoption. Based on the theoretical frameworks of Diffusion of Innovation, Institutional theory and Transaction cost theory, a conceptual framework that identifies organization, environment, product and e-marketplace related factors influencing adoption is developed. Using the data from 122 MSMEs, the significant factors that influence adoption of B2B e-marketplace are identified. The practical implications for the B2B e-marketplace service providers are also discussed.

Abstract:
The MSME sector occupies a position of strategic significance in the Indian economic structure. This sector contributes nearly eight per cent to country’s GDP, employing over 80 million people in nearly 36 million widely-dispersed enterprises across the country; accounting for 45 per cent of manufactured output, 40 per cent of the country’s total export, and producing more than 8000 valueadded products ranging from traditional to high-tech. Furthermore, these enterprises are the nurseries for innovation and entrepreneurship, which will be key to the future growth of India. It is also an acknowledged fact that this sector can help realise the target of the proposed National Manufacturing Policy to enhance the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25 per cent and to create 100 million jobs by the end of 2022, as well as to foster growth and take India from its present two trillion dollar economy to a 20 trillion dollar economy. Despite the sector’s high enthusiasm and inherent capabilities to grow, its growth story still faces a number of challenges. In this light, the present paper examines the role of Indian MSMEs in India’s economic growth and explores various problems faced by the sector. The paper also attempts to discuss various policy measures undertaken by the Government to strengthen Indian MSMEs. Finally, the paper proposes strategies aimed at strengthening the sector to enable it to unleash its growth potential and help make India a 20 trillion dollar economy.

India is a land of small entrepreneurs. MSMEs in India - comprising over five crore businesses and employing over eleven crore people - sum for nearly half of India’s production. There are around 6.33 crore MSMEs in the country and they manufacture more than 8000 products.MSMEs have faced challenges ranging from inadequate access to markets, poorly skilled manpower, poor technology adoption, high cost of capital, challenges in raw material procurement, and inadequate infrastructure. While the Government of India understands it needs to play a greater role in supporting MSMEs - as is evident from schemes like the Atmanirbhar Abhiyan - more needs to be done.As if these challenges were not enough, MSMEs were hit hard by the COVID outbreak and the resultant lockdowns. In this research paper, we explore the challenges faced by Indian MSMEs and the support that the government can offer them to help take on a future that looks skewed in favor of large enterprises.

Abstract:
MSMEs are of particular significance to the Indian economy. This labour-intensive sector helps to maintain the socio-economic equilibrium. If the regulatory framework facilitates, they can reduce economic disparities at the regional level by employment generation, promoting economic independence, and helping in the sustainable development of the society. Despite a significant contribution to nation-building, MSMEs are not getting the necessary support from government agencies and financial institutions. Inadequate financing, deficient social infrastructure, managerial skills, and sudden shocks caused by economic and tax reforms are the issues that majorly affect the performance of small enterprises at different levels of their operations. Thus, this study has transacted to highlight the problems MSMEs facing in India. Through the quantitative approach, six different families of problems—namely marketing, finance, technology, raw material, labour, and management—have been identified. Each of the problem areas was categorised into internal and external issues. A detailed discussion has been made considering the impact of demonetisation, GST, and skill development programs on MSMEs. Subsequently, some suggestions have been made for improving the performance of MSMEs.

Abstract:
Purpose Generating meaningful employment has become a major concern for countries across the globe to break the vicious circle of poverty. Employment creation becomes more intricate in a developing economy like India where the population is at an incessant rise, without a simultaneous increase in the employment generation. In the event of situations of mounting unemployment, micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) being largely labour-intensive have been claimed as a significant contributor in an economy’s development to induce employment generation. The study at hand is an attempt to gauge the overall contributions of MSMEs in employment creation in Assam, a developing region of the Indian sub-continent. However, most importantly, the purpose of this paper is to determine if men and women are differently employed in the sample MSMEs and if the pattern of employment creation is different across male and female-owned sample MSMEs. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a uniquely large sample of 320 MSME entrepreneurs with an equal representation of 160 each from male and female entrepreneurs. Secondary data sources were also consulted. Study areas comprising Kamrup-Metropolitan and Kamrup-Rural, depicting both urban and rural Assam, respectively. The choice of activities undertaken by the entrepreneurs includes a wide variety of 12 activities pertaining to all the MSME entrepreneurs in general and certain gender-specific in particular. The two hypotheses (H01 and H02) formulated were tested using the Chi-square test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Furthermore, the growth rate of employment generation in Assam along with the growth rate of the number of MSMEs established and investment made by the MSMEs were computed. Findings The calculated growth rate of employment creation, capital investment and MSMEs established were found to be positive. Based on the results of the Chi-Square test and Cramer’s V test, this paper establishes a strong association between the MSMEs and the total employment generation by the sample entrepreneurs (H01). The primary data suggested that 320 MSMEs are Employing 2,766 people in the study area with an average of 8 people per unit. Employment in the service sector is higher than the manufacturing units with an average of 4 people per unit. Another vital finding of the study professed that the women-owned MSMEs have a relatively lesser number of people (32.2%) employed than their male counterparts (67.8%). The mean rank of male entrepreneurs is considerably higher (211.49) testifying a higher employment creation by the male-owned MSMEs than the women-owned (H02). Moreover, women (33.4%) are thinly employed than men (66.5%). Women entrepreneurs were seen to have mostly limited themselves in micro-units followed by small-units. In terms of the nature of employment, full-time employees (81.8%) supersede part-time employees (6.6%). The pattern of self-employment is equal (5.8%) across both male and women entrepreneurs. MSMEs have been well identified as an impeccable answer to mitigate the problem of mounting unemployment. Originality/value The novelty of the study lies in its meticulous and explicit understanding of the employment scenario in Assam by the MSMEs. Empirical works on employment creation by the MSMEs in Assam were fundamentally based on secondary data sources. The study fills in the gap by providing a holistic picture of employment creation based on both primary and secondary data, but prominently on the primary. The study accounts details about the nature of MSME employment, the gender of the MSME employees, employment creation by male and female MSME entrepreneurs, the growth rate of MSME employment and self-employment to name a few

Abstract:
Purpose The contribution of women toward entrepreneurial activities has gained significant attention in recent years because of economic and social concerns, government support and initiatives and increased education and awareness. Women’s entrepreneurial activity has increased and women-owned businesses can today be found in every sector of the economy, irrespective of region. In India, government bodies such as the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and several other organizations (private and NGOs) have adopted considerable measures to promote women entrepreneurship (WE). To improve WE, the critical factors of WE adoption need to be identified and evaluated. The purpose of this paper is to identify, prioritize and evaluate the critical success factors of WE adoption in Indian MSMEs. Design/methodology/approach This paper proposes a methodology based on fuzzy analytical hierarchal process to prioritize the critical success factors of WE adoption. A numerical analysis of Indian MSMEs is presented to demonstrate the use of the proposed method. This proposed method considered fuzzy framework, which can handle impreciseness and uncertainty. Sensitivity analysis is also performed to test the robustness of the proposed model. Findings Potential critical success factors are identified from relevant literature and validated by industry experts. This research finalize the critical success factors of WE adoption in Indian MSMEs under seven dimensions, so prioritization of identified critical success factors can be developed and insights relationship of factors would be explored. The results of the study found that individual, management and government dimensions take paramount importance while women aim to become entrepreneurs in Indian MSMEs. Research limitations/implications This study is limited to identifying evaluation factors; other factors have not been identified and categorized. Evaluation is one by experts in this area so it is natural that views of decision-makers may be subjective and vary with regard to industry-type, priorities, resources, etc. Practical implications This study will help industry to identify, evaluate and prioritize factors for successful implementation of women entrepreneurship. MSMEs could device these factors by applying the outcome of the study in their decisions with higher priority to implement women entrepreneurship culture. Originality/value Potential factors are identified from relevant literature and validated by industry experts. Indian MSMEs could device these factors by applying the outcome of the study in their decisions with higher priority to adopt women entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
There is a plethora of literature to support the significance of intellectual property rights (IPRs) in modern organisations in deterring potential infringement of new ideas and in turning them into productive business value. Larger-sized firms attach tremendous value to their intellectual property (IP), whereas in the case of the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, much more than a value game, IP rights have strategic importance, as this sector requires constant creativity and innovation to adapt to fast-changing market conditions, short product life cycles and intense market competition. Many of the Indian MSME units rely heavily on their in-house R&D laboratories/personnel, complex designs, unique methods, artistic work, distinctive brand names and innovation ability. They create and use IP assets which range from patents to trademarks, copyrights and industrial designs. Therefore, proper protection, exploitation and valuation of these assets have become more and more critical for the success of Indian MSMEs in the global economy. In this light, the present study aims to examine the practices used by a selected group of Indian MSMEs with regard to IP usage, protection, and exploitation and valuation aspect. In this process, the study also investigates the problems or constraints that resist these firms to exercise such IP management-related practices.

Abstract:
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector plays a significant role in the Indian economy. A catalyst for socio-economic transformation of the country, the sector is critical in meeting the national objectives of generating employment, reducing poverty, and discouraging rural-urban migration. These enterprises help to build a thriving entrepreneurial eco-system, in addition to promoting the use of indigenous technologies. The sector has exhibited consistent growth over the last few years, but it has done so in a constrained environment often resulting in inefficient resource utilization. Of the many challenges impeding the growth and development of MSMEs, inadequate access to financial resources is one of the key bottlenecks that make these enterprises vulnerable, particularly in periods of economic downturn. MSME sector is currently opening up in India to support startup initiatives, especially in the manufacturing, infrastructure and IT-enabled Services sector. The Government is fully committed now to extend whole-hearted financial and technical cooperation and support to the entrepreneurs to see through a boom in the Start-up industries; as also to fulfil the ‘Make in India’ Mission of the Government. Among other things, the major objectives of this Mission are to enhance the overall economic growth and create enormous job opportunities in India. Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to explore innovative behaviour of Indian Micro Small and Medium Enterprises. It is interesting to study innovative behaviour of microsmau and medium enterprises (MSMEs) since they try to innovate while surrounded by many barriers. They also face high failure rate in doing so. This failure is due to presence of barriers that MSMEs fail to manage. But it has been observed that many MSMEs are now awakening to their potential and becoming innovative. They tend to respond to environmental factors in an innovative way, either by cutting cost or changing ways of management. This innovative way defines their innovative behaviour. The innovative behaviour of MSMEs is studied through three variables, i.e., size, age and barriers faced by them. The result shows that size does influence innovation activities undertaken by MSMEs and statistically, there is no correlation between age and innovative behaviour. Their innovative behaviour is affected by barriers like shortage of technical skilled manpower, technology and shortage of funds or complex funding procedure. The paper is concluded by summarising the key findings, discussing implications, limitations and further scope of study.

Abstract:
Implications of indirect tax namely GST’s implications on small and medium businesses are an emerging area of research in India. Relevant literature of Indian and other nations up to 2020 has been studied and it covers published and also grey literature materials. Adequate caution and consideration have been applied in choosing the appropriate literature. Understandings from the significantly sourced literature have been thematically analysed and presented. The outcome of this work makes clear the dimensions of GST in relation to opportunities for small and moderate business houses, experiences of other countries and the current challenges for small and moderate businesses in the Indian context. One of the significant findings is that implications of GST on MSMEs across various industries would be diverse and also vary from politically sensitive industries of each state. This review is a step towards further research and helps the MSME owners and policymakers in making informed decisions.

Abstract:
The importance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in economic development and their access to finance post-COVID-19 has been highlighted in this study. The availability of finance is a critical factor for MSMEs to flourish, and they are mostly severely affected by the economic recession. The purpose of this study was to ascertain how the firm-specific factors such as Location, Industry, Size, Age, Ownership, Collaterals, and Business information affect their access to finance in India. This study used a survey to collect primary data from 200 MSMEs in India. Descriptive and logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results show that firms with collateral, larger and older firms, and private limited firms are less likely to face problems in raising finance, while service firms are more likely to face problems in raising finance. The results from this study will add to the understanding of the financing problems faced by MSMEs in India. The study recommends that firm attributes are important for accessing finance and help policymakers and researchers develop new strategies and policies to support the financing of MSMEs in India.
