Abstract:
As a poet, journalist, autobiographer, and travel writer, Dom Moraes was a prolific presence in the Anglophone literary world throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Though born in Bombay, Moraes had moved to England at a young age and his very first book of poetry, A Beginning, had earned him fame in the emergent post-Second World War British cultural scene of the late 1950s and early 1960s, winning him the Hawthornden Prize at the age of 19. He was equally popular when he came back to India during the 1980s, and regular volumes of his poetry and prose were published by the newly established Penguin Books India until his death in 2004. Surprisingly, in spite of being such a well-known and well-published author, Moraes’s work in general, and his poetry in particular, have strangely fallen out of critical focus. My article explores this contradictory situation of an apparently famous poet being persistently ignored by critics and anthologists. It attempts to show how this unusual situation can be traced back to a sense of bafflement that most critics and anthologists share when it comes to categorizing Moraes so as to initiate a discussion on him. It also attempts to depict how this sense of puzzlement in categorizing Moraes is connected to Moraes’s own ambivalent attitude towards India, his country of birth, which frequently vacillates between a strong sense of aversion and a feeling of deep empathy. In conclusion, the paper tries to probe how Moraes grapples with his complex sense of affiliation to and distance from India by representing his creative self and its cultural location in the form of a variety of absences — a process which makes him difficult to categorize and as a consequence challenging to discuss.

"Syed Insha is a famous Urdu poet and prose writer. He was born in Murshidabad, India. His father's name was Mir Mashallah Khan. Syed Insha's grandfather was Mir Noorullah Hakim. Belonging to a scholarly and literary family, he spoke Turkish, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, European, Pashto, Punjabi, Kashmiri and Bengali fluently. Thanks to this linguist, he worked in prose. In prose Syed Insha wrote two stories. In both of them, he had two different experiments. In the story of Rani Ketki, Insha did not use any words of Persian and Arabic. For him Urdu is a separate language apart from these two languages and without the use of these two languages, excellent writing can also be written in Urdu. In Silk -e- Gohar he used words that not have dots that is, he wrote the story with pointless words. Both these experiences of Syed Insha are valued in Urdu literature. Because no other literature has adopted this style."

Abstract:

Urdu is an ancient Aryan language associated with Sanskrit. Its history in India dates back to about 1500 years ago. The form came into being which met the standard of literature. This is how the evolutionary journey of Urdu began early specimens of Urdu are found in northern India Amir Khosrow has tried his hand at all genres of prose. Urdu language words are often found together. That is why all Urdu and Hindi people recognize him as their poet. He used common sense language in his speech which was very clear language. Therefore it is appropriate that Amir Khosrow has accepted the influence of Punjabi, a Steep, dialect. The great heritage of Urdu is also found in Deccan who worked for the promotion & publication of this language. Therefore, the early impressions of Urdu are ancient. Among the earliest works of prose are Khawaja Ashraf Jahangir's Magazine and Khawaja Banda Nawaz Gesu Daraz's Miraj-e-Aashiqeen. The most important work of the century is Sub Ras. Another name of this book is Qissa Husan-o-Adal. The Urdu language is slowly developing.

This paper examines the non-fiction of the novelist, V.S. Naipaul, in particular, his writings on India. The paper argues that Naipaul’s repeated exploration of India, over three decades (1964-1990) can be read as his attempts at exploration of the Self. In his An Area of Darkness, India: A Wounded Civilisation, India: A Million Mutinies Now and in his Collection of Journalistic Essays, Naipaul examines the land of his ancestors, its people, its culture, polity, literature. But the most fascinating part of this journey pertains to his exploration of his own inner self. The paper juxtaposes his critique of India to probe an interesting analysis of the entity of a country, through a geographical, cultural and inner exploration of the writer.

Abstract:
In our society violence is prevalent everywhere, be it outside or inside the four walls of the home. Domestic Violence includes physical abuse, emotional, economic, verbal, and sexual abuse. The social stigma of public dishonor is the greatest cause for a woman to become trapped in this frightful environment. General observation reveals that a woman who is dependent financially on her partner or her family is more prone for violence, but it is not always true. Working women, who is equally contributing for her family as other counterpart, is also equally prone for domestic violence either from her spouse or family members. Several studies have shown that working women in India is also caught up under the vicious circle of domestic violence .Many scholarly articles are available on these issues. Here in this paper an attempt is made by researchers to review different scholarly articles and understand why domestic violence against working women happens though she is financially empowered, also to examine its different forms and the factors which are making her endure. In the history of Hindi literature, the oldest extant text of medieval Hindi prose is the collection of hagiography known as the as the vārtā literature which, since the seventeenth century, has been central to the religious life of the Hindu devotional community known as the Puṣṭi Mārga. This article argues that a close examination of these texts in their proper social and historical context reveals that the vārtā literature was written and revised during a time when the Puṣṭi Mārga was slowly expanding its sphere of religious influence in Western and Central India. The result was a body of literature whose principal purpose was to shape the religious self-identity of the Puṣṭi Mārga by stressing the community as a close-knit and exclusive fellowship of believers who owed their final allegiance to Kṛṣṇna and the community's religious leaders who were known as mahārājas.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of genre features and creative potential of modern Ukrainian literature, which has the form of digital self-publishing. The study used hermeneutic, comparative, system-structural and structural-functional methods, as well as conceptual, plot-image, problem-thematic analysis, text-analytical method of "careful reading" to read the archetypal and code content of texts and others. Currently, there are more than 10 literary digital self-published resources inUkraine. However, the prose resources "Booknet" and "Arkush" have the real influence on the literary process. Both allow authors to communicate with readers through digital self-publishing. Five factors influence the work of modern Ukrainian authors: 1) the influence of classical Ukrainian and world canons; 2) the influence of postmodernism both in the literature and at the social and ideological levels; 3) the influence of mass literature of the Russian Federation; 4) the influence of translations and modern European literature; 5) the influence of the Internet and communication with the reader. In the context of digital self-publishing, each of these factors has its own specifics. The influence of cinema on mass literature is especially powerful. This can be manifested as a replication of the template (simplification), and in the form of systemic plot and psychological complication of textual structures. Today, digital self-publishing is represented by a whole range of genres: fiction (science fiction, fantasy, mystical prose, etc.), realism (historical, romantic, social, psychological novel, detective, thriller, etc.), and literature for children and youth. In each genre we see original novels that are not inferior in quality to those published through publishing houses. The latter makes it possible to talk about the emergence of writers inUkrainewho can be "indie authors". That corresponds to the global changes in book publishing.

Abstract:
Ancient Indian literature, poetry and prose, shows different forms of dialogue that have been regarded as the first vestiges of a dramatic art in India. In the Ṛgveda, dialogue appears to be more than a genre, what gives a fundamental structure to the hymns. The study of the ṛṣis’ style and the formal peculiarities of Vedic poetry may shed light on a deep filiation. Among these peculiarities, we will focus on the use of personal pronouns, namely the first person singular. In a small group of Varuṇa hymns attributed to Vasiṣṭha (ṚV VII 86–89), the remarkable conception of the speaking ‘I’, different from the poet himself, different from the lyric ‘I’, sheds light on the distancing effect operated by the Vedic poet, on the difference between subject and persona as a main feature of his art, thus anticipating the emergence of the character, and secretly contributing to the invention of theatre in ancient India.

Abstract:
The Xpert MTB/RIF assay can detect mutations in rpoB gene that confer rifampicin resistance (RR) using five overlapping probes (A, B, C, D, and E). In this study, we described our experience with the Xpert assay in a rural setting in India. During the study period, 3250 samples were processed. The result was unsuccessful in 5.7% of cases. For extrapulmonary specimens, the risk of unsuccessful result was higher in tissue biopsy and stool samples. Among samples positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, rifampicin resistance was indeterminate in 1.2% of them. Our results and a review of the literature showed that the most frequent mutations conferring RR were located in the region of Probe E (63.6%; 95% confidence interval [CI] 56.26–70.94), followed by Probe B (15.02%; 95% CI 11.94–18.10), Probe D (13.35%; 95% CI 10.01–16.69), Probe A (4.73%; 95% CI 1.92–7.54), and Probe C (1.61%; 95% CI 0.67–2.54). Although the high cost of the cartridges precluded using the Xpert assay for routine diagnosis of tuberculosis, our results demonstrate that the assay can be used to diagnose RR-tuberculosis in rural areas with limited laboratory infrastructure and could be a convenient tool to investigate the molecular epidemiology of RR in resource-limited settings.

Abstract:
The Raj Quartet is a novel in which Scott has transmuted contemporary history into fiction—the many forces at work in India over a period of five years, from the ‘Quit India’ motion of the Congress Committee in 1942 to the eve of Independence and Partition. Deeper than Scott's interest in history and politics, however, is his aim to probe the nature of human destiny, conveying a philosophy of life that shows man's destiny and moral sense sometimes at variance. He also focuses an ordinary human point of view on the world around him, valuing integrity and decency. Staying On is not a political or historical novel, although its background has political implications. It focuses mainly on problems relating to personal destiny. Scott's later novels constitute a major achievement in colonial, indeed, all, literature.

Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul, the Nobel Laureate, is a celebrated name in the world of literature. He is known for his precise and remarkable prose writings. He won numerous accolades for his precision in fiction and non-fiction. His works are replete with insight and acute observation of master craftsmanship. He was an Indian-origin Trinidadian-born British Citizen. During his upbringing, he got the Indian atmosphere at his home but he could never connect himself the way his ancestors did with the land and the people. He, himself, admits that he only knew his mother and father beyond that his ancestry is “blurred”. From his childhood, he heard so many stories about India that there developed a sort of fascination for the land. He decided to visit India and finally, he paid his first visit in the 60s. India has been a land of wonders for people around the world. Those, who never had been here read about the land and the people through the travelogues. He wrote three books on India which are known as The Indian Trilogy. Though they are controversial in nature, the minute observation of the author is laudable. Apart from the trilogy he wrote six essays between (1962 and 2006) namely – In the middle of the journey (1962), Jamshed into Jimmy (1963), A Second Visit (1967), The election in Ajmer (1971), Looking and not Seeing: the Indian way (2005-2006), India Again: the Mahatma and After (2005-2006). Most of the scholarship has been unable to probe the deep interconnections that inform the nuclear strategy of these three countries. The literature is based on a generalisation of the superpowers’ Cold War nuclear experience and an analysis of the other nuclear powers’ arsenal is made through the conceptual and theoretical categories offered by such literature. This article argues against using cold war experiences as a basis for conceptualizing regional powers’ nuclear strategies. It begins with a discussion on Posture optimization theory, applying it to understand nuclear strategies of the three Southern Asian nuclear powers and seeks to understand the nature of strategic competition between them and its effect on their respective nuclear postures.

ABSTRACT Globally, the incidence of Tuberculosis was still quite high, there were an estimated that 10 million people are infected with Tuberculosis and even 44% of cases are in Southeast Asia, Indonesia was in the 2nd position in the world after India and every year it is still increasing. Tuberculosis is transmitted through droplets of sufferers when coughing or sneezing, close contact is very vulnerable to the transmission process in addition to other supporting factors. This paper aims to review various sources regarding the risk factors for an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis. The method used was literature review sourced from the Google scholar, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest database as well as other sources such as textbooks and reports published in 2015 to 2020. The results of the literature review showed that most of the risk factors for the incidence of tuberculosis were a history of close contact, age, gender, lifestyle and behavior. Meanwhile, the factors that contribute to the increased risk are occupancy density, ventilation and house lighting, as well as factors for decreased immune system including nutritional status and comorbidities, although at the age of 0-5 years who have received BCG immunization, they were still susceptible to primary tuberculosis infection. Controlling the increased incidence of tuberculosis should be directed at preventing transmission, especially at the family level and close social contacts as well as increasing awareness of correct coughing and sputum behavior. Key words: risk factors; incidence; tuberculosis ABSTRAK Serara global angka insidensi Tuberkulosis dunia masih cukup tinggi, diperkirakan 10 juta orang terinfeksi tuberkulosis bahkan 44% kasus berada di Asia Tenggara, Indonesia pada posisi rangking ke-2 dunia setelah India dan setiap tahun masih meningkat. Abstract:
Since the 19th century European literary tradition indisputably influenced the development of Indian literature. Indian intellectuals, familiarizing particularly with the inheritance of European modernism, follow works of modernist writers, accept their key themes and motifs, thereby bring new literary devices and images into Indian literature. One of the main authors, whose novels have made a deep impact on the development of Hindi literature, is Franz Kafka. The influence of his works is extremely visible across India. Indian writers create Kafkaesque worlds and protagonists in their own novels and stories. One of Hindi novelists, who refers to Franz Kafkas motifs, is Kunwar Narain. In Indological studies his name is associated with poetry. However, he is not only a representative of New Hindi poetry (Naī Kavitā), but a novelist also. The article is focused on Franz Kafkas influence on Indian writers fiction. It is determined in what period and in which novels Kunwar Narain uses kafkaesque motifs. The perception of Kafkas worldview concept in Kunwar Narains novels is studied. It is an attempt to find out what new Indian prose-writer brings to a kafkaesque picture of world. It is also analyzed, in what Indian literary material and in what Indian literary tradition imagery he applies the images of Kafkas stories.

<p class="abstract">Among various types of diabetes, type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common type constituting 90% of the diabetic population. Out of several complications, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is predominant which leads to mortality. Various studies have reported different incidence rates of CVD in patients with type 2 DM. Hence, this meta-analysis study is aimed at determining the prevalence of CVD in patients with type 2 DM in India. In this review, studies were extracted by searching databases from PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and Web of Science published between 2001 and 2021. The data collected from the extracted studies were analysed using comprehensive meta-analysis software which employs random effect model to combine the studies. 17 studies reviled 21.1% (95% CI: 17.9-24.7%) prevalence of cardiovascular CVDs in patients with type 2 DM in India. It is evident from literature review that women with DM are more prone CVD. If it is instituted that CVD is a major risk factor for DM in India, suitable scheme should be followed to improve the status of DM patients and should be brought to the note of hospitals.</p>

Abstract:
Over the centuries, the fabulous adventures of Alexander the Great have become as prominent in art and literature as his historical achievements. Medieval artists in particular are frequent sources of depictions of the hero in such adventures as the search for the water of life, the flight into the air in a basket borne by eagles, the descent into the sea in a diving bell, the interview with the talking trees of India and the visit to the dwellings of the gods. Familiar as these episodes are—or were—it is easy for us to forget how completely new a thing they represent in the tradition of Greek prose writing. With the decipherments of cuneiform some one hundred years ago, a number of scholars concluded that they could not have been developed entirely within the Greek tradition, and posited direct influence from one or more Babylonian or other near eastern sources or traditions to explain the occurrence in Greek literature of these curious tales. Despite the antiquity of these arguments, they have been accepted without examination by many more recent writers on the Alexander Romance.

Abstract:
AbstractWhat kind of foreign policy do populists execute once in power? Based on the existing literature, we conceptualize populism as a set of ideas whose two core elements are anti-elitism and antipluralism. From this we develop a set of hypotheses regarding both substantive aspects of foreign policy as well as foreign policy–making processes of populist leaders in government. An analysis of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign policy record serves as a first plausibility probe of our hypotheses. We find that our concept of populism carries most explanatory value in the procedural aspects of foreign policy making as well as in its communication, less so in those aspects relating to the goals or substance of foreign policy. Whereas foreign policy under Modi's populist leadership is highly centralized and personalized, the traditional foreign policy establishment, including most notably the Ministry of External Affairs, has lost some of its previous authority. Engaging the Indian diaspora abroad emerged as another characteristic of populist foreign policy making. By contrast, the case of India does not confirm our hypothesis regarding a preference of bilateralism over multilateralism, nor does populism necessarily preclude investing in global public goods.

Abstract:
AbstractFrom the 1820s to the 1850s, the British Indian state undertook its final major phase of expansion to assume the approximate geographical extent it retained until its demise in 1947. It confronted at its north-eastern and north-western outskirts seemingly intractable mountains, deserts, and jungles inhabited by apparently stateless ‘tribal’ peoples. In its various attempts to comprehend and deal with these human and material complexities, the colonial state undertook projects of spatial engagement that were often confused and ineffective. Efforts to produce borders and frontier areas to mark the limits of administered British India were rarely authoritative and were reworked by colonial officials and local inhabitants alike. Bringing together diverse examples of bordering and territory-making from peripheral regions of South Asia that are usually treated separately lays bare the limits of the colonial state's power and its ambivalent attitude towards spatial forms and technologies that are conventionally taken to be key foundations of modern states. These cases also intervene in the burgeoning political geography literature on boundary-making, suggesting that borders and the territories they delimit are not stable objects but complex and fragmented entities, performed and contested by dispersed agencies and therefore prone to endless fluctuation.

Abstract:
Women’s writing in English began to appear soon after the poems, stories and novels all came together, although sporadic and hesitant. The larger changes in intellectual, socio-cultural reconstruction, and multi-dimensional of Women’s image, role and status that were part of the widespread social movements of the entire 19thcentury gave Women’s writing clear focus and purpose. Indian English literature has been making great strides during the last few decades thereby attracting the international attention. In fact, the post-independence period in the history of Indian English writing is generally equated with the modern period. It must be said in the light of all considerations that the post-independence Indo-English prose and poetry has characteristics which make it distinctive and different from the writing of the earlier period. The post-1947 era, that is the period after India gained independence, is marked by the country‘s search for her own identity as a new-born nation in the modern world.

Abstract:
In the last months of her life, Sydney Owenson (Lady Morgan) returned to one of her earliest and most popular works,The Missionary: An Indian Tale(1811), and devoted time between attacks of severe bronchitis to revising it. The revised novel was published in 1859 under the name ofLuxima, the Prophetess: A Tale of India. According to the unattributed preface toLuximait was “greatly altered,” receiving the final touches only a few days before Owenson's death on April 16, 1859 (Luximaiii; preface). The revisions are extensive. Most prominent of all is the excision of tracts of particularly purple prose, and the reining in of some of the elements that markThe Missionaryas a novel of sensibility. These changes were considered prudent even in 1811: an otherwise complimentary notice onThe MissionaryinCritical Reviewurges the author to “divest her style of its luxuriant redundancies, and to write in a more simple and natural manner.” Another reviewer styled the novel “outrageously romantic” (qtd. inMissionary298). Yet despite recent critical consensus that Owenson's 1859 revisions were for the most part cosmetic, it seems unlikely that in her death throes Owenson spent sleepless nights worrying about lukewarm reviews of a novel she had written over forty years earlier.

Abstract:
The social structure of every nation is primarily built upon the hierarchal basis under the classification of specific criteria on either ground of earning, job, place, lifestyle etc. It is unavoidable to accept that the social structure rolls along with the time making people from every level of the hierarchal pyramid to cross their boundaries breaking the stereotypes to induce themselves from the holding back position of stag to push them through possible uplift, especially every community that has some or other upon to command them for. Colonial times across the world made this preexisting hierarchal variation more predominant with oriental touch of brutal approach, leaving back its severe imprints even after their retirement. India is not exception from the form and one such brutality left back is the life imposed on Denotified Communities of India through law. This paper attempts to probe through the social psyche of hierarchy with reference to Budhan: A Play by Denotified, serving dual contribution to the social norms and role of art in it.

Abstract:
Postcolonial India is a complex and paradoxical mix of sociocultural practices and modernity. This tension is especially apparent and holds particular significance, with respect to women’s changing roles. Driving this research is a concern to probe the position of women, pursuing higher education, as daughters/daughter(s)-in-law and wife within the family. The article focuses on the specific case of Assam, located in the northeastern region of India and, within it, a sub-population of young, middle-class Assamese women. The research considers the notions of Pierre Bourdieu’s ‘symbolic violence’ and ‘misrecognition’ as well as feminist literature to examine how unequal gender relations in Assamese society are reproduced and sustained. It draws upon in-depth interviews conducted with a sample of students pursuing higher education in five different educational institutions of Assam. The narrative analysis reveals the conflicting but often-contradictory process of women’s changing roles, particularly of those women who are married and play simultaneously the roles of daughter(s)-in-law and wives. The findings demonstrate that the subtle process of socialisation (and cultural values) that stem from patriarchal power relations are so deeply entrenched within the Assamese society that these highly educated middle-class women continue to be subjected to symbolic power maintained by misrecognition.

Abstract:
From a post-colonial and gender perspective I examine R.K. Narayan’s The Mahabharata (1978), Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s The Palace of Illusions (2008) and Mahasweta Devi’s “Draupadi” (1997), in order to analyze how they have rewritten the ancient myth of the Mahabharata. To be more precise, I look into the story of Draupadi, one of the most popular female protagonists, who has become an archetype of the Hindu woman. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate by confronting these narrations that Narayan’s modern prose responds to the dominant Brahmanical discourse that has built up essentialist models of masculinity and femininity. In contrast, Divakaruni’s and Devi’s texts go a step further and 1) hark back to a Brahmanical patriarchy that has exercised control over the feminine throughout history; 2) offer a form of counter discourse by interrogating and deconstructing gender; 3) expose with their rebellious voices the limits of the colonizing power and 4) give us a more accurate understanding of women’s realities in contemporary India.

Abstract:
Purpose: Although retention of employees has become hot topic in this career turbulent era, practically no empirical research is carried out in the fast growing ceramic sector till now and this research fills the gap in the literature. The literatures surveys reported that organization commitment is an important determinant of retention and work environment, supervisor support and training and development are the most relevant antecedents increasing commitment towards organization. This paper examines the impact of the above factors over organization commitment and explores the effects of organization commitment on retention, and verifies the mediating effect of organization commitment on the relationship between proposed factors and retention.Design/methodology/approach: A survey was completed by 416 employees working in five ceramic sanitary ware factories located at different places in India. Questionnaire consisting of items adopted from previous researches were used to collect data. The selection of respondents was based on the simple random sampling.Findings: Findings reveals that organization commitment influences retention and all the above factors enhances it. Moreover organization commitment partially mediates the relationship between proposed factors and retention. However multiple regression analysis indicated that training and development did not have any notable influence on retention.Limitations: This study was conducted in a particular country and also in a particular sector of manufacturing industry, which limits generalization .Possibility of bias towards their organization and assumption that respondents know about their organization are other limitations.Implications: This paper offers recommendations to HR(Human resource) managers that they should extend their support to work environment, supervisor support and training and development in order to generate better relationship with employees and to reduce their likelihood of leaving the company.Originality/value: This article makes significant contribution to most turnover prone Indian environment, highlighting the important factors to be given priority for employee’s retention.

Abstract:
PURPOSE Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) syndrome is primarily characterized by mutations in the BRCA1/2 genes. There are several barriers to the implementation of genetic testing and counseling in India that may affect clinical decisions. These consensus recommendations were therefore convened as a collaborative effort to improve testing and management of HBOC in India. DESIGN Recommendations were developed by a multidisciplinary group of experts from the Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology and some invited experts on the basis of graded evidence from the literature and using a formal Delphi process to help reach consensus. PubMed and Google Scholar databases were searched to source relevant articles. RESULTS This consensus statement provides practical insight into identifying patients who should undergo genetic counseling and testing on the basis of assessments of family and ancestry and personal history of HBOC. It discusses the need and significance of genetic counselors and medical professionals who have the necessary expertise in genetic counseling and testing. Recommendations elucidate requirements of pretest counseling, including discussions on genetic variants of uncertain significance and risk reduction options. The group of experts recommended single-site mutation testing in families with a known mutation and next-generation sequencing coupled with multiplex ligation probe amplification for the detection of large genomic rearrangements for unknown mutations. Recommendations for surgical and lifestyle-related risk reduction approaches and management using poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors are also detailed. CONCLUSION With rapid strides being made in the field of genetic testing/counseling in India, more oncologists are expected to include genetic testing/counseling as part of their clinical practice. These consensus recommendations are anticipated to help homogenize genetic testing and management of HBOC in India for improved patient care.

Abstract In India, masonry structures are still practiced on major scale. Causalities majorly happens in masonry structures during earthquakes in earthquake prone zones due to less bond strength and non-structured designs. The main aim of afore mentioned paper is to find solution to increase this compressive strength, so that practice of masonry structures in rural area can made safe and economic with respect to strength. This study of bond strength can be carried out by analytic approach as well as experimental approach. In analytic approach, finite element method is used for the study, which requires large numbers of properties to model materials, which are not available in literature for the Indian scenario because literature focuses about results not properties. Hence this compressive strength study is carried out by experimental approach to give it more practical and meaningful direction. In mortar, arbitrarily dispersed fibers and alccofine 1203 are generally used for fortification to resist proliferation of crack and also helps to improve strength and ductility behavior which will help the structure to get less damage and to enhance the performance during earthquakes in earthquake prone zones. This will reduce the causalities. The use of recron 3s fibers is economic and alccofine 1203, easy to practice and effective approach as well. These experimental studies are started by making mortar cubes and ended up with making masonry prism and columns by using recron 3s fibers and alccofine 1203 with different mortar bed thicknesses. The studies on brick masonry prism suggests that use of recron 3s fiber and alccofine 1203 in mortar can increase the compressive strength to enhance the performance of the masonry structure. Use of 8 mm thick mortar bed gives more convincing when compressive strengths of masonry wallets are compared.

Abstract:
Disputes in construction projects have become an integral part of the construction process. In addition to reducing their productivity, disputes create mistrust between the involved parties. A variety of reasons that contribute to the occurrence of disputes in construction projects have been discussed in the literature. One among them is the nature of the construction contract that exists between the parties. A review of the existing literature brings to the fore two schools of thought regarding the drafting of construction contracts. While the traditional school considers the contract as those documents that contain inherent incompleteness and hence prone to disputes, the liberal school believes that construction contracts can be drafted in an efficient manner to prevent disputes. In this exploratory research, we conducted semi-structured open-ended interviews with experts in contractual decision making and contract drafting in construction organizations to understand their perspective on contract drafting/redrafting process and to classify them under the respective school of thought. The study reveals some interesting insights about the perceptions and motivations of the contract drafters and the senior management of construction organizations in India, when it comes to drafting dispute-free equitable contract documents. We believe that the findings of our study will pave the way for further research in drafting efficient construction contracts that can be practicable and dispute-resistant in the Indian context.

Abstract:
<em>Agastya Parwa is an Old Javanese manuscript in the form of prose and is of relatively old age (Century IX-XI M). The Agastya Parwa text is closely related to the name Ṛṣi Agastya as a Hindu Mahaṛṣi who contributed to the spread of Hinduism from the Sindhu river valley throughout India, Central Asia, China, Japan, and Indonesia. According to the literature, the Agastya Parwa text belongs to the parwa group, the Agastya Parwa text is also used as a source for yajña, this means this text belongs to the ceremonial group, but there are also those who declare this text included in the ethics group because the text This contains teachings about ethics, but the text of Agastya Parwa also contains the teachings of God. Tri Hita Karana which means three causes of happiness, consists of parhyangan, pawongan, and palemahan. Parhyangan in this text is taught that devotion to God must be based on a sincere, unconditional sincerity that can cause good for someone in this life and in the life to come. The form of pawongan in the Agastya Parwa text is self-control, this is very important for someone, people who are able to control themselves will get enlightenment. Palemahan explains that animals and plants are human siblings because animals and plants are descended from the ṛṣi.</em>

Abstract:
Regional assessments of droughts are limited, and meticulous assessments over larger spatial scales are generally not substantial. Understanding drought variability on a regional scale is crucial for enhancing the resiliency and adaptive ability of water supply and distribution systems. Moreover, it can be essential for appraising the dynamics and projection of droughts based on regional climate across various spatial and temporal scales. This work focuses on drought analysis using a high-resolution dataset for three drought-prone regions of India between 1950 and 2016. This study also uses monthly values of the self-calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index (scPDSI), incorporating Penman–Monteith approximation, which is physically based on potential evapotranspiration. Climate data are statistically downscaled and formulated to form a timeline for characterizing major drought events. The downscaled climate data hold a good statistical agreement with station data with correlation coefficients (R) ranging from 0.91 to 0.96. Drought analysis indicates and identifies several major incidences over the analysis time period considered in this work, which truly adheres to the droughts recorded in reports of various literatures for those regions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to analyse the phenomenon of race to the bottom in a federation and provides answer to the question why developing countries are more prone to race to the bottom competition than developed countries. Design/methodology/approach The paper considers a two-stage game where, in the first stage, two regional governments in a federation choose tax rate on mobile capital employed in its own region by maximising its regional per capita income, and in the second stage, a representative firm chooses capital and labour employment in the two regions by maximising total profit. As capital is mobile across regions, tax policy chosen by any region affects other region. From strategic interaction between the regional governments, the authors derive Nash equilibrium tax rates. Comparing Nash equilibrium with Pareto optimum outcome, race to the bottom is characterised. Findings The paper finds that federations with poorer endowment of capital are more prone to the race to the bottom outcome. The result is robust to the introduction of different types of asymmetries between the regions and a centrally executed revenue equalisation scheme. Whilst it hints at the fact that capital accumulation can naturally solve the race to the bottom problem, it identifies the presence of an equalisation scheme and equity concern at the regions to weaken the impact of capital accumulation in achieving such an outcome. Originality/value The role of capital endowment in the race to the bottom literature in fiscal federalism has previously been ignored. This has serious implications for developing countries like China and India where states compete with each other for attracting private capital in their own jurisdictions.

Abstract:
Landslide susceptibility maps are very important tools in the planning and management of landslide prone areas. Qualitative and quantitative methods each have their own advantages and dis-advantages in landslide susceptibility mapping. The aim of this study is to compare three models, i.e., frequency ratio (FR), Shannon’s entropy and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) by implementing them for the preparation of landslide susceptibility maps. Shimla, a district in Himachal Pradesh (H.P.), India was chosen for the study. A landslide inventory containing more than 1500 landslide events was prepared using previous literature, available historical data and a field survey. Out of the total number of landslide events, 30% data was used for training and 70% data was used for testing purpose. The frequency ratio, Shannon’s entropy and AHP models were implemented and three landslide susceptibility maps were prepared for the study area. The final landslide susceptibility maps were validated using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The frequency ratio (FR) model yielded the highest accuracy, with 0.925 fitted ROC area, while the accuracy achieved by Shannon’s entropy model was 0.883. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) yielded the lowest accuracy, with 0.732 fitted ROC area. The results of this study can be used by engineers and planners for better management and mitigation of landslides in the study area.

Abstract:
Abstract Farmers choose different strategies to cope with disasters. The scientific information on what adaption strategies do farmers across different socio-economic and regional strata choose to cope with disasters can help policymakers to make informed farm-level support interventions. Odisha is a flood-prone state in eastern India. The flood adaptation strategy choices of farmers in Odisha have not been much studied in the literature. Along with identifying the most commonly adopted ex ante and ex post adaptation strategies of farmers, we also identified the common factors influencing the choice of these adaptation strategies. We used the Likert scale and the ordered probit model to analyse the primary data collected from the field survey conducted at the three selected coastal districts. It finds that migration, reduction in food consumption, and pest and disease management are the most common ex post strategies, whereas stocking of foodgrains and usage of flood-resistant seeds are the most common ex ante strategies adopted by the farmers. It also identifies that education, family size and the size of landholding are the main determinants of ex post adaptation strategies, whereas age, the size of landholding and family income are the major determinants of ex ante coping strategies.
