Trends at 1051 river monitoring sites across New Zealand incrementing annually for time windows of 10 and 20 years over the 28-year period ending 2017 were assessed from regular observations of six water quality variables. Between-site variation in trend strength and direction was modelled as a function of an indicator based on the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and the mean of and changes to catchment: (1) stocking intensity associated with pastoral livestock; and (2) area associated with plantation forest. It is customary to detect pollution in a water flow by monitoring the increase of sensitive elements concentrations (NH4+, PO43−, NO3−…). However, concentrations are dependent on the flow rate and these compounds are not conservative, implying a concentration decrease downstream leading to false negative diagnosis of pollution impact. The use of elemental ratios of conservative compounds should diminish these pitfalls. We then thought of the χ/Ca (conductivity/calcium) and Rb/Sr (rubidium/strontium) ratios as water chemical stability indicators to clearly identify and discriminate point from d

In July 2021 the Southeast Coast Network conducted an assessment of water quality in the vicinity of Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores as part of the National Park Service Vital Signs Monitoring Program. Monitoring was conducted following methods developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the National Coastal Assessment Program (EPA 2010). Laboratory analysis measured chlorophyll a and total and dissolved concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorous. Field measurements included water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and salinity. Abstract:
The Southern Colorado Plateau Inventory and Monitoring Network monitors status and long-term trends in the aquatic macroinvertebrate community and associated habitat in order to track changes in the ecological integrity of stream ecosystems. This report investigates changes in key aquatic macroinvertebrate community indices and physical habitat metrics collected from two long-term monitoring sites on the Mancos River in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. Results suggest that both monitoring sites have experienced periods of thermal and hydrologic stress. These stresses occur concurrently and
