Abstract:
In the framework of this scientific article the author of the criterion of efficiency of the country’s exports, developed on the basis of export performance indicator used by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. The advantage of the proposed criterion of the author is that he became a multiparameter using a number of indicators such as the exporting country and the importing country. This criterion can be used to calculate the export potential of the country in the period of instability of the world economy, since under the proposed criteria can be considered not only the annual interval but also quarterly and monthly.

Abstract:
Promoting the country’s competitiveness amid global turbulence is an important task at every level of the economy’s management. In the circumstances of Russia’s shrinking trade balance, which is due to the unfavorable resource market environment, studying the businesses of Russian exporters becomes a relevant research problem. The focus is placed on the dilemma of commodity/non-commodity exports, which is important to emerging markets.During the research, the authors conducted an analysis of revenue indicators and commodity and geographical diversification indicators of the leading Russian exporters based on materials from Expert Business Weekly, which may yield the following conclusions. First, resource companies’ export revenues are less volatile. Second, research results confirm, in a direct or an indirect way, the greater inclination and efficiency of resource exporters towards geographical (country-wise) diversification, whereas commodity diversification is an export strategy tool of non-resource companies. Third, the authors identified a positive correlation between foreign trade revenues, on the one hand, and the number of countries served and trade items offered, on the other hand, for mineral and energy companies; moreover, a higher elasticity of export revenue on a number of markets served was revealed. For the manufacturing exporters representing chemical, petrochemical, and food industries, a positive correlation between export revenues and the number of HS 4-digit commodity lines was identified in some years and industries alongside a higher elasticity of export income on number of commodity lines. The linear regression model showed that the addition of a new product in terms of HS 4-digit code would lead to a bigger increase in export income than a new national market entry. So, the authorities should support a product diversification of both commodity and manufacturing exporters encouraging the innovation. Thus, the performed analysis is of great practical importance, since Russia is the largest trading country in Central Europe. And the results shed light on export performance of its leading companies.

Abstract:
The purpose of the paper is to develop a system of indicators and parameters for assessing the quality of business strategy in international trade based on analysis of the effectiveness of export-import operations, which are evaluated and analysed by managers in developing and implementing business strategies for effective management decisions to expand foreign markets. Methodology. There were used general scientific and special research methods. Assessing the quality of the company’s business strategy in international trade when planning to enter or expand foreign markets was based on economic comparative analysis and grouping, synthesis and formalization. Using the method of coefficients, structural analysis and analytical comparison, groups of indicators are proposed for analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of business strategy in export and import operations. Economic and mathematical modelling, scientific abstraction, systems analysis contributed to the development of economic parameters for assessing the quality of business strategy in international trade. Results. It is established that the assessment of the quality of the business strategy of the enterprise in international trade should be calculated not only taking into account absolute, relative, structural indicators, but also efficiency indicators. Groups of indicators for analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of export and import operations that can be used in management activities are proposed. To determine the quality of business strategy in international trade, the feasibility of using the main block of efficiency indicators such as: direct effect of exports/imports, comparative effect of exports/imports, the level of efficiency of exports/imports, and supplementing the block of indicators characterizing economic efficiency (end result) of the business strategy in international trade. An individual approach to the formation of each enterprise’s own system of economic parameters for assessing the quality of business strategy in international trade, taking into account such basic parameters as assessing the scope of achieving business strategy goals, the importance of information data on business strategy assessment, timing of business assessment - strategies, technical and methodological level of evaluation, novelty of the received information for adjustment of business strategy. Abstract:
The article discusses the actual theoretical problems of assessing the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise (EIPE). The complexity of socio-economic conditions of activities of industrial enterprises requires revision of the theory and practice of the management of export potential. The efficiency of export-import activity depends on the efficiency of the use of export-import potential at the enterprise, and this justifies the need to solve the problems of import substitution in the economy. The theoretical principles of the assessment of efficiency of use of EIPP are substantiated as follows: 1) the methodological framework for assessing the export-import potential of enterprises is substantiated, first of all, by the system of basic elements of assessment; 2) the objectivity of assessment depends on an adequate content model of the efficiency of use of this potential; 3) to carry out the assessment, it is important to substantiate a hierarchical system of indicators that reflects the elemental structure of export-import potential and their characterizations, as well as a system of criteria; 4) assessment of the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise is multidimensional and multicriterial; 5) the objectivity of assessment of the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise is determined by the corresponding mathematical instrument used; 6) effective managerial decisions are made on the basis of the results of an assessment of the efficiency of the export-import activity of enterprise. The substantiated theoretical provisions for assessing the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise contain the formed methodological framework of the assessment. The article also proposes a content model of the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise, which includes such components as: structure, elements, processes, mechanisms, types of EIPP, influence factors, indicators, criteria, results, costs, effect, efficiency. The presented improved theoretical approach to assessing the efficiency of use of the export-import potential of enterprise ensures its objectivity, adequacy and reliability.

Abstract:
The article examines the specificity of commodities exports of Germany’s eastern and western lands. The indicators of sectoral export specialization are determined by comparing sectoral export quotas of the federal lands and the East/West with the general German sectoral export quotas. Calculations are based on data from the country's Federal Statistical Office for 2008 and 2019. As a result of the analysis of the indicators obtained, the general characteristics of the export specifics in relation to industrial branches and federal lands in two parts of the country are formulated, changes among the main specialized branches are explored, the roles of individual lands in the creation of export profiles of East and West Germany and the degree of correspondence between export profiles of the East/West and their lands are determined. The author outlines the convergence of new and old lands in various dimensions of specialization, the success of the East in the competition for specialization in the cars export and the preservation of significant Western advantages in the mechanical engineering’s export specialization and in the formation of new sectoral export focuses, and highlights the federal lands that have achieved high efficiency in the given field (Saxony in the East and Baden-Württemberg in the West).

Abstract:
Trade Facilitation Indicators have become important mechanisms of monitoring the ease of trade. Another issue of rising concern is the pervasive debate on genetically engineered organisms and the development of Genetically Engineered Restrictive Index to evaluate its implications on trade. With regards to these, the objective of the United States Trade Representative is to eliminate implicit trade barriers. Hence, this study examines the impact of TFIs on U.S. agricultural export and its efficiency. From the results, a 1% increase in destination?s Genetically Engineered Restrictive Index leads to a US$ 9,426.82 and US$ 74,268.04 decline in corn and soybean exports while wheat experiences a US$ 26,204.05 increase. The ?I-State? paradox was also revealed from the efficiency rankings. This research recommends that GE labelling policies should be synchronized to match the requirements of the destination countries. Furthermore, information on GE foods must be transparent and disseminated to change destinations? negative perception.

Abstract:
The “stage model” is a criticized but well-used segmentation method for categorizing firms into different export development stages based on their perceived export barriers. However increasing presence of born global firms and lagging exports, particularly in the Swedish tech industry, require an updated segmentation tool. Export intensity, export experience and psychic distance to foreign customers are identified as alternative indicators of a firm’s perceived export barriers. The extent to which these variables can predict perceived export barriers of firms is tested. Collected data from 30 Swedish SMEs consisting of both born globals and traditional exporters within the tech field suggest that none of the three variables is a sufficient indicator of perceived export barriers on its own. Instead, each variable explains different export barriers to different degrees. The results indicate that each SME chooses its unique path of export development, making it difficult to establish a standardized stage model for modern SMEs.

Rowbotham, Nicola Kim. "Exchange rate policy and export performance in efficiency-driven economies." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/27022.

Full text
Abstract:
Increased globalisation of trade has led a growing number of firms to search beyond their traditional domestic markets. As a result, export-led growth has gained focus, particularly amongst industrialising nations, or so-called efficiencydriven economies, in search of economic growth. Policy prescriptions have generally proposed a weakening of the exchange rate as a means to stimulate exports; whilst an exchange rate appreciation would be detrimental to exports and encourage imports. Past research on this topic has been mixed. This research examines the impact of exchange rate on export performance in a sample of nine efficiency-driven economies for the period from 1990 to 2009. These economies, with floating exchange rate arrangements, include Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey. Panel data models using a fixed-effects method have been applied in this research. The research finds that a weakening of the exchange rate does not necessarily improve export performance. To the contrary, export growth is associated with a stronger, relative exchange rate. The lag effect of exchange rate movement on export performance is slightly more pronounced, but remains statistically insignificant.

Abstract:
At the present time, when enterprises have tendency for constant improvements, different tools are used to analyze current state of the business and to introduce organizational changes. Enterprise Modeling is one of these tools. Enterprise modeling can be used for different purposes: to restructure or standardize business processes, to develop business strategy, to capture best practices, etc. Evidently, enterprise models creation is resource-consuming job, since it requires variety of resources, for example labor, time and others. However, resources utilization is always aimed at result achievement, which originates the question of efficiency. There is a need to evaluate efficiency in the area of EM, which starts from defining a set of indicators to be checked. This work presents checklists of efficiency indicators for processes that EM can involve. For this purpose it identifies processes (so-called application areas of EMMs and enterprise models) that EM can involve. All of them are characterized with the help of two concepts: required resources and expected results. Formulated efficiency indicators can be used to analyze efficiency in the area of EM, particularly in application areas of EMMs and enterprise models.

George, Kelvin Michael. "Key Performance Indicators' Effects on Public Sector Infrastructure Project Efficiency in Grenada." ScholarWorks, 2019. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/7474.

Abstract:
Grenada is 1 of 15 developing countries in Caribbean Community known as CARICOM. The infrastructure capital projects in these developing countries are plagued with an array of issues: unethical practices, inadequate supervision, lack of transparency and accountability, inadequate monitoring and evaluation, cost overruns, and inefficiencies. In the 1980s and 1990s, the International Monitory Fund and World Bank introduced a balanced scorecard engineered under the structural adjustment program, but it was unable to improve infrastructure project efficiencies. This qualitative case study sought to understand the role of management key performance indicators (KPIs) on public sector infrastructure capital project efficiency on the island of Grenada. An institutional assessment and development framework and a classical management theoretical framework methodology were used to explore the effects of management KPIs on public sector infrastructure capital projects efficiencies in developing countries. The research incorporated a constructivist philosophy that underpins the evaluation and perception of the government, the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA), project teams, systems, and stakeholders. A purposive sampling strategy with elements of snowballing was used to obtain 12 representative participants for interviews, and a systematic approach of transcribing, coding, and thematic analysis was done. Findings indicate inadequacies in the BSC performance measure system on infrastructure projects, which justifies the use of comprehensive management KPIs. Positive social change implications of this study include recommendations for comprehensive management KPIs and policies to improve public sector infrastructure project efficiency in Grenada.

Abstract:
The issues of setting goals, planning and forming a system of indicators of the effectiveness and efficiency of the penal system are considered. The criteria for determining the goals-tasks that are adequate to the public goals of the system are justified. Quantitative indicators corresponding to the criteria were developed, based on the contribution of the criminal justice System to reducing the socio-economic losses of society from recidivism. The contribution of the system is determined by changes in the criminal potential of convicted persons during the period of serving a sentence under a court sentence. Criminal potentials are estimated by predictive values of the aggregate of three groups of characteristics of the criminal potential of convicts, determined by the stages of the cycle of recidivism. The practical results of the use of sound methods and developed tools are based on the use of a significant amount of empirical data on the institutions of the criminal justice system and its systematic expert and statistical analysis. The monograph is a generalization and development of the works carried out by the authors during 2012-2017 in the process of preparing masters of Management for the penal system. It is intended for managers and specialists of the bodies and institutions of the Criminal Justice System, researchers, teachers of higher educational institutions who train specialists for law enforcement agencies.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of comparing the development of conscious self-regulation and the effectiveness of solving professional tasks for novices and professionals. Participants were chemists with different levels of professional experience (N = 42), the group of novices included students of the Faculty of Chemistry (N = 21), the group of experts included chemists working in their specialty for more than ten years (N = 21). An analysis of objective indicators of the effectiveness of tasksolving has demonstrated that chemists with long work experience solve professional tasks faster and with fewer errors. Two types of strategies were identified in solving chemical tasks. Students have a «perceptual strategy» — they spend more time and effort analyzing the presented answer options, make more transitions between the presented task and answer options, and make longer fixations on the task area. Experts, in contrast, apply a «representative strategy» for solving problems, which is characterized by building a mental representation of a molecule of a substance, reducing the time it takes to solve a task, and increasing the duration of fixations on the problem area. Conscious self-regulation in this study was evaluated using the methodology «Style of self-regulation of behavior». Among the indicators of selfregulation, there are statistically reliably correlate both the indicator of the time taken to solve task and the indicator of errors made by the cognitive-regulatory process «target planning». A comparison of the regulatory indicators of students and experts revealed significant differences in the scales «Planning goals» and «Reliability». The data obtained allow us to conclude that development of conscious self-regulation of advancement and achievement of goals may turn out to be a significant resource for the effectiveness of a specialist in the field of chemistry. It is possible that the ability to plan professional goals and regulatory reliability develops with the acquisition of professional experience, which can contribute to the growth of the effectiveness of professional actions of specialists.

"Digitalization for Effective Performance Management Using Key Performance Indicators in Miscible Gas Injection Projects in South Oman." In Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference. SPE, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/207917-ms.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract South Oman has several pre-Cambrian reservoirs that are highly pressured (400-1000 bar), deep (3-5 km) and critically sour (H2S up to 10%). The combined STOIIP of these reservoirs makes it one of the largest gas EOR projects in the world. The objective here is to highlight the key performance indicators and digitalization techniques used for continuous and effective well, reservoir and facility management (WRFM) and production optimization, while honoring the facility constraints and gas export requirements. Real time pressure data such as tubing head pressures, injection/production rates along with other data including maps, static pressures and production logs are used to define an appropriate set of performance metric at various levels, e.g. reservoir, sector or well. Digitalization of surveillance data helps in real time production optimization such as offtake management based on creaming curves according to gas sink availability and facility constraints. Key business performance indicators include gas utilization efficiency; MGI performance indicators include incremental oil, throughput, instantaneous and cumulative voidage replacement ratios, gas breakthrough level and time, ratio of reservoir pressure to the target minimum miscibility pressure; and facility constraints are optimized through gas balance, along with tracking field performance against the initial FDP forecasts. Real time performance data is tracked using a commercial Real-Time Data Analysis tool (RTDA) and Database Analytics Visualization Tool (DAVT), with surveillance indicators targeted at well, reservoir and facility level. The above-defined Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are tracked against predictions from the field development plan in web-based portal developed at PDO (Nibras). Digitalization has enabled quick and effective monitoring of these KPI, short-term optimization of injection distribution and offtake rates to maximize oil production and overall value within facilities constraints and varying export gas commitments based on South Oman Gas Line (SOGL) network optimization. Using dimensionless plots and a standardized set of parameters help in developing a common understanding and benchmarking the MGI reservoir response with analogs and amongst different reservoirs. This work presents a set of performance KPIs and short-term optimization methodology using digitalization and LEAN framework that are tracked in a web-based portal, RTDA and DAVT. It provides means to facilitate offtake decisions to meet variable export requirements while honoring facilities constraints, assess reservoir performance, providing valuable insights that helps in speedy reservoir management decisions. This process has been replicated across PDO for all related MGI projects and can benefit other development types, e.g. chemical/steam injection.

Abstract:
Scope creep has been a day-to-day occurrence in almost every major road project causing a considerable cost overrun with no early dimple. This paper offers a critical appraisal on the dominant causes behind scope creep in the road projects. A comprehensive literature survey was undertaken to explore the factors specifically contributing scope creep and various control measures that are adopted, among other purposes, in at least reducing the impact due to scope creep in the final delivery of road projects. The study included interviews with 15 experts to identify major issues and add their hands-on experience. A questionnaire survey was subsequently administered among 100 industrial personnel having a cost management background in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the key performance indicators (KPIs) in terms of taming scope creep. Results from the study showed that concomitant client instructions on additional features, unclear scope and incremental changes cause scope creep throughout the project. Among 53 KPIs identified, the most effective KPI that enables adequate control of scope creep in road projects is the cost efficiency ratio. The results enable comprehending the causes of scope creep and its resultant net effect on cost control.

Abstract:
<p>To the bridges failures that have been arising over the years, experts have pointed out as the main cause of failure, human errors, in the design, construction and operation phases. One of the main goals of this paper is the identification of the foremost causes of failure due to human errors in design and construction procedures. Therefore, a bridge failure database that includes several failure cases and a human errors survey will be used to support this line of work. After the identification of some explicit human errors that is believed to be the source of several reinforced concrete bridges failures, a selective analysis using risk indicators, namely, the probability of occurrence and consequence, is performed to choose those that might represent a higher risk for the structural safety. The outcome of five selected human errors in a specific case study is quantified using a robustness index, computed according to the variation of the structure reliability index due to the damages caused by human errors, allowing to demonstrate their impact in the structural safety. The modelling process and the finite element analysis of the structure is performed using TNO DIANA software, allowing the calculation of the reliability index of the structure damaged by different human errors. Within the COST action TU-1406, the main goal of this work is a contribution for the establishment of a roadways bridge quality control plan with higher efficiency in the reduction of bridge failures, their mortality rates and economic loss.</p>

Abstract:
A spreadsheet-based performance monitoring software program has been developed which uses OEM correction curves and thermodynamic analysis to compare actual simple cycle gas turbine performance to expected performance over the full-range of operation including part-load. The program has been designed to require a minimum of user set-up and can interface with widely-used, third-party data historians to access plant operating data in real-time. In addition to providing overall plant performance indicators, the program also provides component-level indicators such as combustion turbine compressor section efficiency. An overview of the algorithms used to calculate actual and expected performance is provided. The advantages and shortcomings of this approach are compared to those used by others. Results are presented from initial testing of the software on a 500 MW combined cycle power featuring two GE 7FA combustion turbines. Performance results include data on the compressor section efficiency of a 7FA over a wide range of operating conditions.

Abstract:
This paper presents the integrated modelling and multi-objective optimization of ORC based on radial inflow turbine. With this approach it is possible to replace the constant turbine efficiency with a dynamic efficiency that is unique for each set of cycle operating conditions and working fluid properties. This allows overcoming any arbitrary assumption of the turbine efficiency, unlike the previous literature, and providing a more realistic estimation of the cycle performance. Parametric studies were conducted utilizing the developed model to identify the key input variables that have significant effects on the critical turbine-ORC performance indicators. These variables were then included in the optimization process using DIRECT algorithm to optimize two objective functions as the cycle thermal efficiency and the turbine overall size for five organic fluids. Optimization results predicted that isobutane exhibited the best performance with the maximum cycle thermal efficiency of 13.21% and turbine overall size of 0.1434m while having relatively high turbine isentropic efficiency of 77.03%.

Abstract:
On-board Energy systems in vessels have to use fuel efficiently to maintain ship speed at lowest possible costs. This paper describes how to use ship operational data to improve and maintain efficiency of the vessel’s power production with respect to the condition and performance of equipment. The paper describes an overview of an automated Technical Operations Performance (TOP) Monitoring service. TOP monitors the performance of marine main and auxiliary diesel engines by use of the information collected onboard vessels at regular intervals. Performance data are stored in xml-reports sent as email attachments from ship to shore. This communication is reliable and cost efficient for merchant ships that are on-line only for shorter periods. Load, ISO and environmental corrections make results valid for benchmarking and trending. The service aggregates the hierarchical information obtained from different sources by transferring measurement readings into unified indicators, the Technical Condition Index (TCI) [1]. Experts manually check the automatically generated performance reports and add additional guidance on options to improve power production and machinery conditions analyzing the available data with respect to different targets, such as low engine degradation and high fuel efficiency. The performance reports then influence business processes indicating possible causes for loss of performance in equipment and possible erroneous instrumentation, and the need for maintenance actions. The obtained TCI values show the performance of individual units, or for a fleet/class of equipment and vessels.

Abstract:
In this paper, a detailed thermodynamic performance analysis of a transcritical condensing (TC) cycle is performed with pure CO2 and a blend of 48.5 % propane with 51.5 % CO2 as working fluids. A realistic thermodynamic model is used incorporating irreversibilities in turbo-machineries and heat exchangers. The Key finding is that the addition of propane elevates the heat rejection temperature, but does not impair any of the performance indicators. Such a fluid may be useful for power generation in concentrated solar power applications by using which a hike of up to 2 % can be realized in the thermal efficiency of a power plant.

Abstract:
The rapidly evolving coronavirus pandemic brings a devastating effect on the entire world and its economy as awhole. Further instability related to COVID-19will negatively affect not only on companies and financial markets, but also on traders and investors that have been interested in saving their investment, minimizing risks, and making decisions such as how to manage their resources, how much to consume and save, when to buy or sell stocks, etc., and these decisions depend on the expectation of when to expect next critical change. Trying to help people in their subsequent decisions, we demonstrate the possibility of constructing indicators of critical and crash phenomena on the example of Bitcoin market crashes for further demonstration of their efficiency on the crash that is related to the coronavirus pandemic. For this purpose, the methods of the theory of complex systems have been used. Since the theory of complex systems has quite an extensive toolkit for exploring the nonlinear complex system, we take a look at the application of the concept of entropy in finance and use this concept to construct 6 effective entropy measures: Shannon entropy, Approximate entropy, Permutation entropy, and 3 Recurrence based entropies. We provide computational results that prove that these indicators could have been used to identify the beginning of the crash and predict the future course of events associated with the current pandemic.

Abstract:
It is shown that the calculation of scientometric indicators of the scientist and also the scientific journal continues to be an actual problem nowadays. It is revealed that the leading scientometric databases have the capabilities of automated metadata collection from the scientific journal website by the use of specialized electronic document management systems, in particular Open Journal Systems. It is established that Open Journal Systems successfully exports metadata about an article from scientific journals to scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. However, there is no standard method of export from Open Journal Systems to such scientometric databases as the Russian Science Citation Index and Index Copernicus, which determined the need for research. The aim of the study is to develop the plug-in to the Open Journal Systems for the export of data from this system to scientometric database Russian Science Citation Index. As a result of the study, an infological model for exporting metadata from Open Journal Systems to the Russian Science Citation Index was proposed. The SirenExpo plug-in was developed to export data from Open Journal Systems to the Russian Science Citation Index by the use of the Articulus release preparation system.
