AbstractPseudoelastic fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite with enhanced ductility and energy absorption capacity was developed. This composite system relies on the distributed nature of large pseudoelastic strains to mitigate localization of inelastic deformation and failure, and thus mobilizes a major fraction of volume for effective energy absorption. The pseudoelastic fibers were made of Ni-Ti-Cr alloy used in conjunction with two different matrices, aluminum and copper. Tension and pull-out tests were performed to evaluate the ductility and energy absorption capacity of control and pse

The effect of microwave electromagnetic field on properties of unsaturated polyester composite filled with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been studied. The quantity of CNT, at which the best indices of physical and mechanical characteristics are achieved, is chosen. The influence of microwave fields at various stages of formation of three-dimensional cross-linked structure of the composite was studied for the obtained compositions. The structure formation processes, the structure of the obtained composites and thermal stability were considered on the selected compositions.

Polymer matrix composites (PMCs) often undergo aging as a result of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which significantly impacts their performance and durability. This paper investigated the alterations in the microstructure and macroscopic properties of epoxy resin and its composite used in overhead wires during UV aging. Furthermore, the mechanism of UV aging for both resin and composite was revealed. The results showed that UV aging predominantly affected the properties of the surface layer resin. UV aging can induce molecular chain scission, which leads to resin weight change, color deepening,
