Abstract:
For data mining, reducing the unnecessary redundant attributes which was known as attribute reduction (AR), in particular, reducts with minimal cardinality, is an important preprocessing step. In the paper, by a coding method of combination subset of attributes set, a novel search strategy for minimal attribute reduction based on rough set theory (RST) and fish swarm algorithm (FSA) is proposed. The method identifies the core attributes by discernibility matrix firstly and all the subsets of noncore attribute sets with the same cardinality were encoded into integers as the individuals of FSA.

Evaluation of customer satisfaction is an important area of marketing research in which products are defined by attributes that can be grouped into different categories depending on their contribution to customer satisfaction. It is important to identify the category of an attribute so that it can be prioritized by a manager. The Kano model is a well-known method to perform this task for an individual customer. However, it requires filling in a form, which is a difficult and time-consuming exercise. Many existing methods require less effort from the customer side to perform data collection and

Abstract:
AbstractFossil footprints are very useful palaeontological tools. Their features can help to identify their makers and also to infer biological as well as behavioural information. Nearly all the hominin tracks discovered so far are attributed to species of the genus Homo. The only exception is represented by the trackways found in the late 1970s at Laetoli, which are thought to have been made by three Australopithecus afarensis individuals about 3.66 million years ago. We have unearthed and described the footprints of two more individuals at Laetoli, who were moving on the same surface, in the same direction, and probably in the same timespan as the three found in the 1970s, apparently all belonging to a single herd of bipedal hominins walking from south to north. The estimated stature of one of the new individuals (about 1.65 m) exceeds those previously published for Au. afarensis. This evidence supports the existence of marked morphological variation within the species. Considering the bipedal footprints found at Laetoli as a whole, we can hypothesize that the tallest individual may have been the dominant male, the others smaller females and juveniles. Thus, considerable differences may have existed between sexes in these human ancestors, similar to modern gorillas.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this paper, a representational framework is presented featuring a qualitative notion of similarity. It is aimed at issues of natural language semantics, in particular the semantics of expressions of similarity and sameness and their role in comparison and ad-hoc kind formation. The framework makes use of attribute spaces, which are well-established in AI and also in some branches of natural language semantics, e.g., frame-based approaches (Barsalou 1992). What distinguishes attribute spaces and representations as proposed in this paper is the idea of systems of predicates on attribute spaces corresponding to predicates on the domain. On the worldy side, a domain includes a set of relevant predicates talking about individuals. These predicates have counterparts on the representational side talking about points of an attribute space. Counterpart predicates are required to be consistent with their originals; more precisely, they have to agree in truth-value on the set of positive and negative exemplars thereby approximating the original predicates. Moreover, counterpart predicates will be assumed to have convex and open extensions. This system facilitates a qualitative notion of similarity which is suited to account for the meaning of natural language similarity expressions and, furthermore, their role in comparison and ad-hoc kind formation.

We present a generic approach to capture individual user responding towards product attributes including non-quantifiable ones. The proposed solution does not generalize or stereotype user preference, but captures the user’s unique taste and recommends a list of products to the user. Under the proposed generic approach, the system is able to handle the inclusion of any unaccounted attribute that is not predefined in the system, without reprogramming the system. The system is able to cater for any unaccounted attribute through a general description field found in most product databases. This is extremely useful as hundreds of new attributes of products emerge each day, making any complex analysis impossible. In addition, the system is self-adjusting in nature and can adapt to changes in a user’s preference.

User experience (UX) design involves combination of different design attributes with their corresponding attribute levels to form different product profiles. This raises the issue of how to integrate corresponding UX of individual design attribute levels (i.e., partworth UX measures) into a holistic measure of UX of the entire product profile. Traditional methods often use a weighted sum of single partworth UX strategy without considering their dependence. This paper proposes to use utility copulas to accommodate the dependence of individual partworth UX measures. Single utility functions are

Abstract:
As manufacturers are forced by today’s marketplace to provide nearly customized products to satisfy individual customer requirements and simultaneously achieve economies of scale during production, product family design and platform-based product development have garnered their attention. Determining which elements (attributes, functions, components, etc.) should be made common, variable, or unique, across a product family is the critical step in the successful implementation of product families and product platforms. Therefore, the inherent challenge in product family design is to balance the
