Abstract The deviation from the ideals of ECCDE advocates and Nigerian educational policy were the things that prompted the authors to ask if indoctrination is a proper option for educating the Nigerian ECCDE learner. The view that indoctrination, as one of the processes of educating, is defective on ground of lack of consideration for the learner’s ability to think and exercise their minds calls for serious attention, particularly when the ECCDE learner is exposed to serious academic work and less recognition is given to play and cultivation of rational autonomy. Public confessions are repression spectacles that have appeared in different regimes and historical periods. This study theorizes an indoctrination dimension of repression—the turning of punishment into a control tool that displays the regime’s apparent transformative power. Whereas repression is often defined by its inhibiting dimension, this study argues that authorities stage repressive spectacles not only to deter further dissent but also as an instrument of “thought reform,” a governance tradition in China. The study finds that the strategy for indoctrinating the Pancasila ideology must consider classifying people’s level of disagreement with the Pancasila ideology, namely: supporter, follower, and militant. These claims are not incorrect, but in regard to the paramilitary nature of the organization, they do not delve nearly deeply enough. The concepts of indoctrination, preaching and nurture are then examined as they relate to education.
