The late scholastic era was, among others, contemporary to the “emergence of probability”, the German academic philosophy from Leibniz to Kant, and the introduction of Newtonian physics. Within this era, two branches of the late-scholastic analysis of induction can be identified, one which can be thought of as a continual development of earlier scholastic approaches, while the other one absorbed influences of early modern philosophy, mathematics, and physics. Both branches of scholastic philosophy share the terminology of modalities, probability, and forms of (inductive) arguments. Furthermore

By appeal to examples of scientific practice from astrophysics and analogue gravity, we demonstrate that the reliability of knowledge regarding certain phenomena gained from an experiment is not circumscribed by the manipulability or accessibility of the target phenomena. Rather, the limits of experimental knowledge are set by the extent to which strategies for what we call ‘inductive triangulation’ are available: that is, the validation of the mode of inductive reasoning involved in t

The paper explores the energy efficiency of general-purpose installations, particularly the equipment used in espresso coffee production, and the unique functions of hydraulic systems. By applying eco-design principles and innovative, efficient solutions, the negative impact on the environment can be significantly reduced, transforming citizens into eco-consumers. The study aimed to explore ways to decrease energy consumption in hydraulic systems of standard installations, particularly in heat transfer processes in solids and liquids, which account for up to 97% of energy consumption in such i

The self-excitation phenomenon of generators connected to an unloaded power line is considered. Accordingly, the selected values of the conductivity of the controlled shunt reactors, following the control range (especially in the overload mode), avoid the occurrence of self-excitation of the generators. The physical analysis of the processes occurring at self-excitation of the synchronous generator is given, and the calculated models are developed. It is established that in the case of artificial support along the entire length of the voltage line at the nominal value using controlled compensa

Abstract:
Ferroresonance is a complex nonlinear electrical phenomenon that can cause significant dielectric and thermal stresses in power equipment, leading to potential faults, equipment damage, power supply interruptions, etc. Three-phase networks with isolated neutral point and single-phase isolated inductive voltage transformers are susceptible to ferroresonance, caused by the interaction of the transformer's nonlinear inductances and zero sequence capacitance of power network. The paper analyzes the possibility of ferroresonance occurrence in a real 6 kV power network, with an isolated neutral poin

Abstract The authors of this study developed a high-power inductive coupler with a high-voltage DC blocker that is capable of delivering up to 100 kW of CW RF power at 176 MHz and 4 kV DC. The high-power indictive coupler was developed at the Soreq Nuclear Research Center for the radio-frequency quadrupole of the Soreq Applied Research Accelerator Facility. The purpose of the DC blocker is to enable the application of high-voltage DC bias to the inner conductors of the couplers in order to prevent the multipacting phenomena. A new, mechanically and thermally improved, version of the RF coupler

In vitro flowering studies can contribute to the understanding of some of the mechanisms involved in reproductive development, in particular those related to vernalization and photoperiodism. However, on account of the excision of plant parts, in vitro studies imply the rupture of correlation phenomena, which can influence the expression of flowering. The following general conclusions can be drawn from the analysis of the in vitro behavior of short and long day plants, either with or without vernalization requirements, and of some photoperiodically indifferent plants: a) Photoperiod and vernal

Abstract:
The modeling of the capacitive phenomena, including the inductive effects becomes critical, especially in the case of a power converter with high switching frequencies, supplying an electrical device. At a low frequency, the electro-quasistatic (EQS) model is widely used to study the coupled resistive-capacitive effects, while the magneto-quasistatic (MQS) model is used to describe the coupled resistive-inductive effects. When the frequency increases, the Darwin model is preferred, which is able to capture the coupled resistive-capacitive-inductive effects by neglecting the radiation effects.
