Full textSyftet med examensprojektet var att märka upp rör och ventiler så att operatörerna lättare kunde identifiera dem. Samt lära sig jämföra en PID (Process and Instruments Diagram) med verkligheten och kunna förstå hur en indunstning fungerar. När vi kom till Lantmännen Agroetanol så fick man reda på några uppgifter som man skulle lösa. Som t.ex markera rör och ventiler. Men även göra massbalanser av vad som flödar in fysiskt samt även elektroniskt vad som händer i indunstning. Mot slutet av tiden på företaget så hade vi slutfört alla uppgifter vi fick vid dag ett. Rören och ventilerna vart märkta enligt reglerna som fanns. Tack vare tiden där har vi fått en inblick i hur en indunstning ser ut och fungerar samt hur man gör en massbalans.

Full textEvaporation is a part of the chemical recovery department at wood pulping mills. The purpose of evaporation is to remove water from the black liquor, which makes the liquor combustible. The process is very energy demanding, and having a well-functioning model of the system is of greatest interest. The model can then be used to study energy consumption and to test different control strategies.
Two models have been developed during the master thesis. The main model is a complete model of the evaporation at Södra Cell Mönsterås and has been constructed using the simulation program Extend. The Extend model is a block based, static model, which describes energy and mass flows of liquor, steam and condensate.
The other model consists of a dynamic, parametric model created using the System Identification Toolbox in MATLAB. However, the dynamic model only considers some parts of the evaporation.
Finally, some suggestions of further development and usage of the models are given.

Full textThe wastewater treatment plant at GE Healthcare's facility in Uppsala deployed a three step vacuum evaporator in 2007. The purpose of this was to pre-treat wastewater containing amines. The purpose of this thesis was to optimize thisprocess by reducing the amount of concentrate without releasing more nitrogen tothe environment and to examine if density could be used as a measurement of whenthe process should be ended.To create a foundation for optimization six test cycles were conducted with samples taken from all three steps. Both concentrate and condensate were tested as well as the incoming solution. Furthermore, the thesis has been expanded with a benchmarking part examining two different evaporators. The first visit was conducted at AstraZeneca in Mölndal and the second at Korsnäs pulp mill in Gävle.The optimization part of this project ran into technical problems during its initial period. The amount of nitrogen in the condensate was above levels considerednormal and this led to a thorough cleaning of the evaporator. The experiments thenproceeded according to plan with nitrogen levels considered normal. The analysis ofthe collected data did not lead to any result suitable to run the process by.The benchmarking phase went according to plan and resulted in the conclusion thatevaporation processes are generally stabile and similar. The incoming solution was found to be the parameter that limits the process.
