Recent research indicates the joint stock form was not a superior type of business organization in many countries historically. In Japan, however, its role was more pervasive. From 1896 to 1939 joint stock enterprises accounted for 44 percent of registered businesses and 80 percent of total capital. From 1922 to 1939 these enterprises outperformed other forms and generated 94 percent of aggregate profits. External finance factors, Japan's development phase, industrial structure, public policy, and culture led to high joint stock usage. The private limited liability company, introduced in 1938,

Abstract:
Abstract[Context] In manufacturing industries, the design of a product needs to comply with many design rules. These rules are essentials as they help industrial designers to create high quality design in an efficient way. [Problem] However, the management of an ever-increasing number of design rules becomes a real problem, especially for new designers. Even if there exists some knowledge management tools for design rules, their capabilities are still limited and many companies continue to store their design rules in unstructured documents. Nowadays, design rule application is still a difficult task that needs a circular validation process between many expert services in a manufacturing company. [Proposition] In this paper, we will analyze the main existing approaches for design rules application from which we will demonstrate the need of a new approach to improve the current state-of-the-art practices. To minimize rule application impact on the design process, we propose to develop a Context-Aware Design Assistant that will perform design rule recommendation on the fly while designing using computer-aided technologies. Our Design Assistant relies on the modelling of the design rules and the design context in a single knowledge graph that can fuel a recommendation engine. [Future Work] In future work, we will describe the technical structure of the Context-Aware Design Assistant and develop it. The potential outcome of this research are: a better workflow integration of design rules application, a proactive verification of design solutions, a continuous learning of design rules, the detection and automation of design routines.

Abstract:
The assessment of the implementation of the corporate governance practices is important because it contributes to the efficient use of resources and, thus, increases corporate performance. However, the practice of CG in Portugal is below European standards due to several issues related to weak legal protection, concentrated ownership structures, and limited information transparency. Using a panel data of 17 firms listed on PSI20, this chapter investigates the impact of the internal CG mechanisms on corporate performance, in 2014-2018. Results show that the size of the audit committee impacts positively on firm performance. However, the number of independent members of audit committee decreases corporate performance in firms operating in services, and ownership of related parties increases corporate performance. Also, fewer leveraged firms are likely to exhibit better performances. This research provides understanding of the relationships between internal mechanisms of CG and corporate performance by comparing results across groups of sectors.

Until recently, project financing of public infrastructure projects in France, as in other civil law jurisdictions, was limited to concessions. This evolved in the early 2000s with the emergence of partnership agreements between public authorities and sponsors. Nowadays, project financing of public infrastructure projects is structured around two distinct contractual frameworks: concessions and public-private partnerships. The two main differences between public-private partnerships and concessions lie in (i) the way the project is designed and (ii) the remuneration of the private company. This chapter discusses public projects and tender offers, creating and perfecting security interests, daily assignment and pledges over business concerns, direct agreements and step-in rights, issues arising from secured lending, and the influence of the civil code in African countries.

Abstract:
Carey Mickalites reads select moments in Joyce’s fiction to show how it critically reflects that shady nature of British finance law from a distinctly Irish perspective. While most of Dubliners focuses on the lower middle class, in “After the Race” Joyce depicts the young and exuberant Jimmy Doyle as a reckless and feckless Irish newcomer to international company finance, virtually equating Doyle’s investment in a French auto firm under limited liability law with excessive gambling. In doing so, the story reflects long-standing English cultural anxieties about unregulated speculation and ties them to stereotypes of the Irish as irrational spendthrifts—rather than rational, law-abiding investors—subject to the risky allure of big returns. Joyce would radically complicate this picture in Ulysses. If we attend to the legal implications of Leopold Bloom’s financial assets and investment schemes, we see that he continually attempts to balance the conflicting impulses of investment fantasies that would capitalize on the vague nature of British finance law and a practical bourgeois realism associated with prudent participation in finance markets.

Abstract:
As cost of damages to the compression systems in oil and gas industry can lead to significant capital cost loss and plant downtime, these valuable assets must be carefully protected to achieve a high level of production and operational reliability. In recent years, several research activities have been conducted to develop knowledge in analysis, design and optimization of compressor anti surge control system. Since, the anti-surge control testing on a full scale compressor are limited for possible consequences of failure and also the experimental facility can be expensive to set up control str
