Abstract:
Au cours de leur histoire, les Hurons ont dû adapter leur mode de vie traditionnel pour assurer leur subsistance. Ils sont ainsi passés de l’état d’horticulteurs semi-sédentaires à celui de chasseurs pour finalement développer une industrie spécialisée dans la fabrication de souliers mous en cuir. Au début du XXe siècle, on observe un déplacement de cette industrie dans les villages voisins de Loretteville et de Saint-Emile, qui étaient en mesure d’offrir l’espace, les capitaux et la main-d’oeuvre nécessaires pour des manufactures de plus grande taille. Bien que la communauté huronne se trouve ainsi marginalisée dans ce processus, plusieurs de ses membres continuent de participer activement à l’industrie du cuir. Les entreprises des environs de Wendake s’inspirent de leur savoir-faire et de leurs méthodes de mise en marché pour promouvoir leurs propres produits. La capacité d’adaptation de l’économie huronne aux changements de conjonctures lui a permis d’atteindre un niveau de prospérité peu commun pour une réserve amérindienne.

Même s'ils forment une très large majorité de la population de la province de Québec, les Canadiens français ne participent que dans une faible mesure à la direction et au développement de 1' économie de leur milieu. De cette situation, souvent soulignée mais rarement analysée de façon systématique, Norman W. Taylor a cherché une explication â partir de 1'examen des différences, du point de vue de leurs attitudes et de leur comportement, entre les chefs d'entreprise canadiens-français et canadiens-anglais de notre milieu. Il a interrogé 52 hommes d'affaires, dont 32 de langue française et 20 de langue anglaise. L'échantillon comprend des chefs d'entreprise de cinq régions industrielles importantes : celles de Montréal, Québec, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières et Victoriaville. Les entreprises représentées appartiennent à 1' un des trois secteurs industriels suivants : industrie du cuir, du bois, du fer et de 1' acier. L’auteur a aussi tenu compte, au moment du choix de ses informateurs, de la dimension des entreprises.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to measure the effectiveness of quality management of industrial training management services by CUIC UUM. The study essentially utilizes the SERVQUAL service quality study model as a theoretical framework and the development of questionnaires. The questionnaires contained demographic information and 49 measurement items. Fieldwork was conducted from June 2014 to January 2015, i.e. the training session of the UUM’s student industry training or the respondents. The unit of analysis used is the individual, who is a UU CUIC customer. A total of 827 questions were analyzed. The results show that there is a strong relationship between the quality of service quality produced by CUIC UUM with the level of customer satisfaction. The five dimensions of service quality, namely reliability, assurance, empathy, sensitivity, and reliability as well as the role of marketing or promotion communication indicate the varying strengths of relationships in influencing customer satisfaction of service dominating organizations such as CUIC UUM.

AbstractThis review paper considers the research conducted in the past 30 years in the field of corrosion under insulation (CUI). CUI is a significant challenge in many industries for reasons of high cost and risk because it proceeds undetected under insulation. CUI is an unavoidable problem which may potentially cause personnel injury or even fatalities. Presently, CUI counts for as much as 40 to 60% of pipeline-repairing cost. The use of coating under the insulation has been shown very efficient in the mitigation of CUI. Moisture and ion penetration, particularly chlorides, through the insulation and coating may produce stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steels. The process of applying insulating materials on metal surfaces and the precautions that need to be taken are explained. Beside visual inspection, techniques such as neutron backscatter, capacitive imaging and pulsed eddy current can be used to detect the presence of CUI. The strength and limitations of the available commercial detection techniques are evaluated. A comprehensive list of industrial standards dealing with CUI is provided.

La circostanza peculiare che qualifica il caso di Taranto č l'avvio, all'inizio degli anni '60, della costruzione del IV Centro siderurgico nazionale Italsider. La decisione governativa di localizzare a Taranto tale impianto precede la costituzione del Consorzio per l'Area di sviluppo industriale (Asi) e rappresenta il principale tema con cui si confronta il piano per l'Area medesima. Il Piano regolatore territoriale dell'Asi di Taranto viene redatto tra il 1960 e il 1962 dalla societŕ Tekne, con la consulenza di Giovanni Astengo e Giorgio Fuŕ. Il saggio ne propone la rilettura, guardandovi come a un'esperienza paradigmatica da due punti di vista. Da un lato, per le riflessioni a cui esso dŕ luogo, circa il ruolo e gli strumenti del piano urbanistico rispetto al processo di sviluppo. Dall'altro lato, per i modi in cui, attraverso di esso, diventano palesi alcune difficoltŕ e incertezze del meccanismo stesso di attivazione delle Aree di sviluppo industriale del Mezzogiorno. L'analisi dei contenuti del Piano guarda, in particolare, alle seguenti questioni. La prima č la distinzione necessaria tra previsione e obiettivi di sviluppo, con ciň che determina sul piano delle scelte riguardanti gli investimenti da finanziare per attrezzare le aree per le industrie; questo punto č all'origine della discussione sul significato e la funzione del "piano di prospettiva". La seconda č la proposizione di un modello insediativo, attraverso il quale si esplicitano alcune idee riguardo alle relazioni fra struttura sociale, assetti spaziali, usi del territorio e modelli possibili di sviluppo industriale. Questi contenuti vengono osservati in prospettiva, nel paragrafo conclusivo, prendendo in esame i modi della attuazione del Piano.

Inquadrare concettualmente la formula «CCI - Industrie culturali e creative» è un'operazione di cui si è occupata principalmente la dottrina economica della cultura. Il presente contributo offre alla comunità scientifica alcuni spunti di riflessione da un punto di vista giuridico, in particolare in relazione al diritto dell'UE e al diritto interno. Ciò che rende la definizione un unicum nel panorama del diritto pubblico multilivello è la specificità del CCI, che, allo stesso tempo, indaga i profili di «cultura», «creatività» e di «industria/economia». Ciò acquista rilevanza anche nell'ordinamento giuridico italiano, perché la Costituzione repubblicana non conosce questa nozione, il che fa sì che gli studiosi ne diano un'interpretazione sistematica. Oltre a questo, avendo a che fare con una forma di stato regionale, occorre rendersi conto di come sono distribuite le competenze tra Stato e Regioni, a causa dell'eterogeneità del settore del CCI. L'incertezza della nozione di diritto costituzionale ha permesso al legislatore statale di introdurne una simile, ma non identica: quella di «imprese culturali e creative», su cui, nel paragrafo finale, questo lavoro cerca di riflettere in prima battuta

Il caso della Sicilia Orientale può essere utilizzato per ragionare su un modello di lettura delle modalità con cui nell'ultimo quarantennio si sono verificate diverse crisi ecologiche e sul modo con cui si sono affermati molti processi di impoverimento ed erosione delle risorse. Il quadro che emerge è quello di un'area mediterranea in cui la crisi industriale degli anni Settanta del Novecento non ha prodotto un alleggerimento della pressione sull'ambiente locale, si sono solo modificate le modalità di sfruttamento. I principali processi che si sono realizzati, come la dismissione industriale, la crisi dell'agricoltura, la nascita dei nuovi poli commerciali e l'espansione urbana, hanno avuto uno stretto legame con le grandi trasformazioni globali e hanno partecipato alla produzione di una crisi ambientale. Il risultato semba essere un quadro in cui l'insieme delle attività umane è stato segnato dai processi di accumulazione per spoliazione e dall'estrazione di valore dalla biosfera.

ABSTRACTCopper pollution is one of the serious environmental problems in Indonesia. Higher concentration of copper is toxic so that threat living organism. Bio-remediation using copper resistant bacteria is effective for solving heavy metals pollution because the bacteria adapt easily when applied in environment. Using bacteria containing gene encoded copper resistance could help effort of copper bio-remediation. The purpose of this research is to isolate and characterize copper resistant bacteria from industrial sewage in Surabaya also to amplification of gene encoded resistance to copper (Cur). Bacteria was grown on Salts Base Solution medium with addition of appropriate concentration of copper. Resistance to copper was determined based on Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of CuSO4. Molecular characterization was done based on 16S rDNA gene analysis using universal primer. Amplification of Cur gene was done using specific primer of gene orf3, orf4, orf5 from Lactoccocus lactis. Three highly copper resistant bacteria have been isolated with the MIC of 2.5-7.5 mM CuSO4 encoded IrC1, IrC2, and IrC4. Isolate IrC4 is the highest copper resistant bacteria with the MIC of 7.5 mM. Resistance mechanism may be through accumulation copper inside the cells with the total of 371 mg/g dry weight of cells. The three bacteria have plasmid with the size of 21 kb. Isolate IrC4 have 96.99% similarity with Cupriavidus pauculus. Amplification of copper-resistance (Cur) gene demonstrated that a single band of 0.9 kb was obtained from isolate C4. The finding of indigenous resistant bacteria encoded Cur gene may give better solution for pollution problem in Indonesia.Keywords: bacteria, copper, Isolate IrC4, Lactococcus lactis, resistantABSTRAKPencemaran tembaga di Indonesia merupakan salah satu masalah lingkungan yang serius sehingga perlu diatasi. Tembaga pada konsentrasi yang tinggi bersifat toksik sehingga mengancam kehidupan organisme. Bioremediasi menggunakan bakteri resisten tembaga yang diisolasi dari lingkungan tercemar terbukti efektif mengatasi pencemaran logam berat karena lebih mudah beradaptasi ketika diterapkan di lingkungan. Pemanfaatan bakteri yang mengandung gen penyandi resistensi tembaga dapat menunjang keberhasilan usaha bioremediasi tembaga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi dan mengkarakterisasi bakteri resisten tembaga dari limbah industri di Surabaya serta melakukan amplifikasi gen yang menyandi resistensi bakteri tersebut terhadap tembaga (Cur). Isolasi bakteri dilakukan menggunakan medium Salt Base Solution dengan penambahan CuSO4. Uji resistensi ditentukan berdasarkan nilai Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) terhadap CuSO4. Karakterisasi molekular dilakukan berdasarkan analisis gen 16S rDNA menggunakan primer universal. Amplifikasi gen Cur dilakukan dengan menggunakan primer yang spesifik terhadap gen orf3, orf4, orf5 dari gen Cur pada Lactobacillus lactis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga isolat bakteri yang paling resisten dengan nilai MIC= 6.5-7.5 mM, yaitu isolat IrC1, IrC2, dan IrC4. isolat IrC4 merupakan isolat bakteri yang paling resisten dengan nilai MIC sebesar 7.5 mM. Mekanisme reistensi isolat IrC4 adalah dengan cara mengakumulasi tembaga di dalam sel selitar 371 mg/g berat kering sel. Ketiga isolat memiliki plasmid berukuran sekitar 21 kb. Analisis gen 16S rDNA menunjukkan bahwa isolat IrC4 memiliki kemiripan 96,99% dengan Cupriavidus pauculus. Gen Cur pada isolat IrC4 sepanjang 0.9 kb berhasil diamplifikasi dengan menggunakan primer spesifik gen orf3 yang menyandikan pengikatan tembaga. Penemuan bakteri indigen indonesia yang menyandikan gen resisten tembaga diharapkan dapat menunjang keberhasilan penanganan masalah pencemaran tembaga di Indonesia.Kata kunci: bakteri, isolat IrC4, Lactobacillus lactis, resisten, tembaga.

Abstract:
Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a progressive problem for piping systems in oil and gas industries especially in petrochemical and chemical plants due to its catastrophic disasters and consequently its automatic impact on the environment. To ensure CUI problem should not spark sudden surprise in plants, indeterminate factors that contribute to the deterioration of pipes subject to CUI should be recognized and taken care seriously. Operating temperature, type of environment, insulation type, pipe complexity and insulation condition of the pipes are the key factors that cause significant deterioration of pipes due to CUI. As per its varying nature, CUI is difficult to predict as it remains hidden beneath the insulation and gets growth in an ambiguous and abrupt manner. For such an uncertain and critical situation, fuzzy logic is a good choice to be deal with. Thus, in this study, CUI corrosion rate for insulated carbon steel piping systems has been predicted by fuzzy logic using API 581 data. Predicted CUI corrosion rates obtained by the developed fuzzy logic model are committing quite satisfactory results when comparing with API 581 published CUI corrosion rates. At the end of study, sensitivity analysis (SA) of CUI producing factors has also been performed. SA is showing the role of each CUI producing factor in terms of percentage, having participation for the cause of 1 mm/year CUI in pipes. The predicted CUI corrosion rates and SA will help inspection engineers for setting and delivering the risk-based inspection priority for insulated piping systems at their concerned plants.

Abstract:
La structure et la composition de la peau animale et sa reactivite lors des differentes etapes de la fabrication du cuir sont presentees, en accordant plus d'interet au tannage par les sels de chrome. Une mise au point bibliographique sur les proprietes des sels de chrome et leur reactivite est effectuee. Deux methodes de synthese du methanesulfonate de chrome sont proposees. La premiere consiste en une metathese entre l'ion methanesulfonate, a partir du methanesulfonate de baryum, et l'ion sulfate, de l'isomere violet du sulfate de chrome. La seconde met en uvre une resine echangeuse d'ions, mise sous forme chromique, puis eluee par l'acide methanesulfonique. Le methanesulfonate de chrome prepare est caracterise par spectroscopies infra-rouge et de diffraction des rayonx x. Ses proprietes tannantes sont etudiees, et plus generalement celles de l'ion methanesulfonate, dont les capacites d'amelioration de la qualite du cuir sont mises en evidence; en effet, l'utilisation des ions methanesulfonate confere aux peaux une grande souplesse, un toucher particulierement doux et soyeux, et permet d'en augmenter la superficie, donc la valeur marchande. La microscopie electronique, de meme que l'analyse et le dosage des acides gras, est employee pour emettre des hypotheses quant a leur mode d'action sur composants de la peau notamment les fibres de collagene

La mise au point d'un nouveau procédé de production de cuir au chrome non polluant : le procédé Cr. A. B. A été réalisée. Ce procédé est adaptable à differents types de peaux, de structures dermiques très diverses, des peaux d'ovins et de bovins à celles de phoques ou de poissons. L'utilisation de techniques analytiques telles que la diffraction des rayons x et la microscopie électronique à transmission a permis de montrer que le tannage par les sels basiques de chrome est une réaction a la fois intra et interfibrillaire et que la complexation chrome-collagene est différente lorsque l'on utilise des agents masquants. Un nouveau paramètre relatif à l'efficacité du tannage a été defini ; il s'agit du coefficient de réticulation CR. Ce travail comprend également la mise au point d'émulsions de nourriture à base d'huile de phoque, pour l'industrie du cuir. Les émulsions sont realisées par sulfatation ou par ajout d'un tensioactif approprié à l'huile de phoque récupérée lors du degraissage des peaux.

Un degraissage de peaux picklees d'ovins a ete mis en place dans notre laboratoire et exploite industriellement. Celui-ci elimine tout rejet aqueux et permet de recuperer les matieres grasses qui seront reutilisees comme matieres de base dans une formule de nourriture du cuir. Dans un premier temps, une analyse bibliographique sur la nourriture du cuir a ete realisee. Les matieres grasses des peaux picklees d'ovins ont ete analysees et caracterisees. Pour emulsionner ces matieres grasses et les incorporer dans le cuir, sous forme d'emulsion huile dans eau, une palette de tensioactifs a ete selectionnee. Le choix s'est fait selon leur stabilite en fonction des conditions d'application (electrolytes, ph. . . ) et leur compatibilite avec les produits de fabrication (tanins). Les formules sont testees sur des cuirs tannes avec des extraits de vegetaux et de sels de chrome. Ces essais sont developpes en milieu industriel, de meme que la production de la nourriture. Une etude economique a ete realisee

L’objet de cette recherche est de contribuer à l’estimation de l’incidence de l’ouverture de l’économie marocaine sur la compétitivité des entreprises Textile Habillement et Cuir. Une étude empirique a été menée en deux phases: Dans une première étape, les entreprises formant notre échantillon ont été classées selon leur activité. Dans une deuxième étape, l’impact de l’ouverture de l’économie marocaine sur la part du Maroc dans les approvisionnements Textile Habillement et Cuir de l’Union Européenne a été appréhendé au moyen d’une approche économétrique qui mobilise les données de panel, à partir d’un modèle qui a été initialement utilisé par Goldstein et Khan (1985). L’estimation de l’évolution de l’environnement concurrentiel dans les deux catégories préformées a corroboré l’hypothèse de la résistance des entreprises marocaines, suite au programme de la politique de mise à niveau. En réalité, la situation est loin d’être simple au sein des entreprises Textile Habillement et Cuir. D’abord, les résultats des régressions ont permis de souligner le poids de la mondialisation de l’économie (démantèlement de l’accord multifibres, accord de libre-échange). Ensuite, il s’est avéré que les entreprises contraintes par l’intensification de la concurrence réagissent par le biais de diverses stratégies de développement des exportations (créativité, réactivité, valorisation de l’offre, diversification de marché, constitution d’un réseau commercial international,…), dans le cadre de la politique de mise à niveau. De manière générale, l’étude révèle l’exhaustivité de l’incidence des contraintes de l’ouverture de l’économie marocaine sur la compétitivité des entreprises
The purpose of this research is to contribute to the estimation of the relative weight of the opening of the Moroccan economy weighing on the competitiveness of Textile Clothing and Leather firms. The empirical study was conducted in two phases: In a first step, companies forming our sample were classified according to their activity. In a second step, the impact of the opening of the Moroccan economy on the part of Morocco in supplies Textile Clothing and Leather European Union was apprehended by means of an econometric approach that mobilizes the panel data from a model that was originally used by Goldstein and Khan (1985). The estimate of changes in the competitive environment in both categories preformed corroborated the assumption that the resistances of Moroccan companies following the program’s policy upgrade. In reality, the situation is far from simple in Textile Clothing and Leather firms. First, the results of regressions were used to highlight the weight of globalization of the economy (the dismantling of the multi-fiber agreement, FTA: fiber trade agreement). Then it turned out that companies forced by intense competition react through various strategies for developing exports (creativity, responsiveness, valuing the bid, market diversification, building a commercial network International…), under the policy of upgrading. In general, the study reveals completeness of the impact of constraints on the opening of the Moroccan economy on the firms’ competitiveness

Contrairement au mouvement d’externalisation constaté depuis plusieurs décennies dans le secteur textile-habillement-cuir, les entreprises appartenant au segment du luxe affichent un degré d’intégration verticale de plus en plus poussé. Ce travail de thèse s’attache à mettre en lumière les causes et les conséquences de cette stratégie en mobilisant les concepts et les méthodes de l’économie industrielle.Le fonctionnement spécifique de l’industrie du luxe nous amène à privilégier une approche micro-économique basée sur des données qualitatives et quantitatives recueillies sur 21 entreprises, ainsi que des modèles économétriques menées sur 18 d’entre elles.Cette thèse montre que la stratégie d’intégration verticale mise en œuvre par les entreprises répond en premier lieu à une recherche d’efficience productive et de captation de rente. Elle a eu pour effet de renforcer les barrières à l’entrée existantes sur le segment du luxe et contribué à accroître les performances des acteurs installés
Unlike the outsourcing trend stated during the last decades in the textile-apparel-leather sector, luxury-fashion firms show in increasing degree of vertical integration. This thesis’ aim is to reveal the objectives and effects of this strategic move using the concepts and methods of industrial economics.The specific behavior of the luxury industry lead us to choose a microeconomic approach, based on quantitative and qualitative data gather on 21 luxury companies, and empirical statistical tests carried out on 18 firms.Results show that the main justification for a greater level of integration is the search for efficiency and rent-seeking strategies. This strategy led to higher barriers to entry on the luxury market and increased performances for installed firms

Après la description du produit brut, ses origines, ses maladies, le stockage qui doit être déclaré, les métiers de préparation sont abordés avec les réglementations d'hygiène. Ceux-ci impliquent des installations importantes à proximité de cours d'eau comme fosses, cuves, seilles, moulins à écorces ainsi qu'un outillage spécifique. Des droits sont perçus pour l'usage de l'eau et l'écorçage des arbres. Les métiers et ouvrages de produits finis, plus proches de la vie quotidienne, couvrent quelques ustensiles comme les instruments de musique, soufflets, eaux, gourdes, étuis, valises non réglementés alors que l'habillement des hommes comme les chaussures, les vestes le sont, ainsi que l'équipement des animaux de trait, de selle et des véhicules par des ordonnances locales. L'outillage utilisé pour la coupe et l'assemblage est commun à tous ces métiers hormis les formes en bois des cordonniers. La distribution de tous ces produits, taxés s'ils sont importés, se fait sur les lieux de production, en boutique et surtout sur les marchés et foires avec des droits d'étal variables pour les étrangers et d'hygiène perçus par les amodiés des villes. Les prix sont sujets à des tarifs chiffrés ainsi que les amendes et sentences pour l'inobservation des règles de chaque corps de métiers. Les règles de vente des produits bruts sont plus rigoureuses pour la qualité et les prix que celles des produits finis. Le marquage doit permettre de déceler l'origine de malfaçons éventuelles et l'abus de monopoles de revente aux artisans utilisateurs. Pour les produits finis, seuls les cordonniers sont tenus de marquer au moins la taille de leurs bottes et chaussures, ceci pour en réglementer les prix. L'organisation des corps de métiers issue des confréries antérieures, se trouve dépendante après la conquête française d'une hiérarchie similaire à celle du royaume. Les règles des corporations fixent les conditions de l'apprentissage, les statuts du compagnonnage et l'organisation de la maîtrise. Les confréries religieuses regroupent les artisans autour de leur saint patron. Comme les corporations, elles encouragent la solidarité au sein du corps de chaque métier. L"impact socio-économique de l'exploitation du cuir a été fondamental en Franche-Comté aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, mais la production reste cependant de médiocre qualité, faute d'encadrement et de contrôles strictes.

This cycle can be divided into three periods : from 1930 to 1939, the professional federations, speaking for medium sized enterprises mostly grouped in industrial districts, were able to obtain protectionist and Malthusian measures while expressing at the same time views based on corporatism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism ; from 1939 to 1944, they associated themselves with the anti-Semitic despoilment, considered as legitimate in order to reverse the process ; from 1945 to 1950, they tried without success, to obtain the perpetuation of corporatism and to restore the pre-war Malthusian measures. Les pouvoirs publics français ont établi une liste des activités industrielles susceptibles d'avoir un impact au niveau de la pollution des sols. La tannerie a été une des activités listées. Ce mémoire a pour objectif de mettre à disposition de la filière cuir française des méthodes d'analyses des micro-polluants organiques dans les sols. Avant de pouvoir travailler sur cette matrice, il a fallu valider des modes opératoires permettant de doser ces substances à l'état de trace dans l'eau, en particulier les 33 substances dangereuses issues de la directive européenne sur l'eau n° 2000/ 60/ CEE (liste étendue à 87 substances par le Ministère de l'environnement et du développement durable). Toutes les méthodes ont été développées en chromatographie gazeuse et liquide. Les rendements, les limites de détection et de quantification et les incertitudes associées au dosage ont été déterminés. Certaines de ces méthodes ont été extrapolées pour être applicable sur la matrice "sol"

Chapter VIII looks at two examples of individual missionaries who, although originally part of larger foreign, Protestant organizations, sought to pursue their own agenda in Japan. The first, Rudolf Bolling Teusler, successfully ran St. Luke’s Hospital, ministering to the foreign and domestic population of Tokyo alike. In doing so, he was able to provide a service to the urban poor offset by the funds of the wealthier ex-patriot community in the Kantō region. William Merrill Vories, an evangelical teacher originally, branched out in the Kansai region, opening a fruitful architectural firm as well as a pharmaceutical industry. With the money from these endeavors, he opened his Omi Mission and Brotherhood’s sanatorium for the diseased. Both men utilized native assistance, but both successfully prevailed in the moral enterprise by finding a niche that suited the environments, thus not depending solely on the government for continued assistance. Similarly, they were able to transform the question of cui bono to who should benefit?

Abstract Risk Based Management of Corrosion Under Insulation, DNVGL-RP-G109© Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) is a major challenge for different process industries. Today it is managed in many ways, ranging from full removal of insulation to minimal maintenance including some inspection with insufficient non-destructive testing. These two extremes exhibit a lack of understanding and a lack of systematic approach in managing the CUI risk, globally. The paper will describe the results from a recent (2017-2019) CUI Joint Industry Project (JIP) where the oil and gas industry in the North Sea area has established a methodology for managing the CUI threat. In this context managing the CUI threat involves risk assessment, risk mitigation, risk update and experience transfer in a systematic manner. The methodology assesses four CUI barriers: material, coating, water wetting and design. Abstract Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) continues to be an issue in many oil, gas and petrochemical installations. This paper builds on previous work to examine why the industry has struggled to come up with reliable and cost-effective solutions to the CUI problem. The limitations of different multidiscipline innovations are discussed together with positive examples of the latest promising industry projects and research, including risk management guidance, improved coatings, insulation system materials and design, non-destructive screening techniques and permanently embedded monitors. Key learnings from this review demonstrate the importance of better use of industry plant data to achieve improvements in managing CUI in all innovation disciplines.

Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is an aging degradation issue in long-term service vessels and pipes made of carbon steel and low-alloy steel. One of the problems in managing CUI is an equivocal evaluation technique of thinning detected by inspection. A replacement period with more accuracy can be evaluated more appropriately by performing fitness-for-service (FFS) assessment in this equipment. It is important to verify the validity of the FFS assessment using actually corroded pipes in order to promote the spread of FFS assessment in the domestic industry. In the present paper, pipes with complicated metal-loss due to CUI that were used in a chemical plant are burst in burst tests. An estimated burst pressure, which is calculated based on the assessment of metal-loss and through finite element analysis (FEA) based on FFS assessment, is compared with experimentally obtained burst pressures in order to validate the integrity evaluation. The burst pressure is then estimated by FEA, in which the ductile fracture under the multiaxial stress condition is considered. The burst pressure estimated by FFS approximately matched the burst pressure obtained based on experimental results. Fitness-for-service is sufficiently valid for investigating the remaining strength or burst pressure of corroded pipe. In addition, the burst pressure estimated by FEA that considered the ductile fracture under the multiaxial stress condition agreed with the experimental results and is valid so long as the remaining strength factor (RSF) is less than 0.6.

Corrosion under insulation is a typical type of localised corrosion in oil and gas industry especially when water penetrates into a damaged thermal insulation/coating. An area of corrosion under insulation (CUI) was observed on the external surface of a pipe on topside of an offshore platform after removing the insulation. Surveys of depth measurements of the corroded area in both longitudinal and circumferential directions (with respect to the pipe axial direction) using a depth micrometer tool were performed and then converted to a river-bottom profile following the procedure of DNV RP-F101 Part A. A best estimate of the failure pressure safe working pressure (maximum operating pressure) of the pipe were calculated. The former was then compared against the finite element analysis (FEA) results which showed good agreement when axial stresses were excluded. The effect of assumptions such as confidence level and inspection sizing accuracy are also discussed.

Fitness-For-Service, FFS, assessment technologies for pressure equipment have been studied in recent 15 years, and standardization of a FFS assessment procedure for local thin area, LTA, has been expected by maintenance engineers of process industries. Based on the verification using extensive burst tests and FEM analysis of LTA, the Japan Welding Engineering Society, JWES, developed new FFS standard WES2820 in June 2015.[1] This paper presents high lights of WES2820 and a FFS assessment system consisted with 3D optical measurement method and FFS software for LTA in pressure equipment as a new tool for effective inspection and reliable maintenance activities.

With the properties of good mechanical strength, excellent resistance to uniform corrosion and superior weldability, austenitic stainless steels are widely used in petrochemical industries. Among them, 316Ti austenitic stainless steel is a titanium stabilized version of 316 molybdenum-bearing steel. The addition of titanium can greatly increase the resistance to sensitization and significantly reduces the susceptibility to the formation of chromium carbides. So, 316Ti stainless steel is more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion as well as intergranular corrosion, it is even more resistant to sensitization as compared to low carbon 316L stainless steel. Based on these advantages, 316Ti stainless steel pipelines are chosen to transport 98% H2SO4 in one factory. The pipelines for transporting concentrated H2SO4 were manufactured by welding segments of 316Ti stainless steel pipes. The external surface of the pipelines was insulated to maintain heat and prevent crystallization as well as for safety and health reasons. After being in use for about two years, leakage occurred on one pipe and concentrated H2SO4 was seeping from the pits on the pipeline. The investigation about leakage was carried out. The results show that leakage was caused by corrosion under insulation (CUI) and the pits formed by CUI are just located on the welding arc contact zone (WACZ) of the base metal caused by the welder’s faulty operation during welding the joints. The external surface metal of the pipe contacted by the welding arc was partially re-melted by arc heat, which solidified in air and finally formed into another new microstructure that is completely different from that of 316Ti stainless steel. The microstructure in re-melting and solidification zone of the pipe is similar to that of cast metal and didn’t experience any heat treatments. This has less resistance than austenite in 316Ti stainless steel. As a result of the continuous rainy days in the summer, the insulation on the external surface of the pipe was dampened or wetted, which made moisture penetrate and accumulate between the insulation and the pipe, finally resulting in CUI. At the same time, the accumulation and concentration of chloride from the insulation as well as the relatively high temperature in summer, greatly increased the corrosion rate of metal under insulation. Therefore, the presence of the less resistant microstructure in the re-melting and solidification zone, together with the dampened or the wetted insulation, as well as existence of chloride, made the external surface metal of the pipe under the insulation suffer from corrosion, finally resulting in the occurrence of the leakage. The concentrated H2SO4 which was seeping from the pipeline was easily diluted by the moisture or water trapped in insulation. The diluted H2SO4 is a strong corrosive medium, which in turn made the metal around the pits heavily corroded.

Boilers and pressure vessels are heavily used in chemical industrial plants and equipment is inspected periodically for damage. The most common type of damage is wall thinning due to Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) or corrosion under insulation (CUI). Any damage must be repaired or replaced as necessary. On the other hand, optimization of the time required in order to replace damaged equipment by evaluating the load carrying capacity of pipes with wall thinning is expected in chemical industrial field. In the present study, FE analysis is used in order to evaluate the load carrying capacity in pipes with wall thinning. Burst pressure is a measure of the load carrying capacity in pipes with wall thinning. The pipes subjected to burst testing are carbon steel tubes for pressure service STPG370 (JIS G3454). The examined wall thinning is rectangular, and the eroded depth is half the pipe wall thickness. The burst pressure is investigated by comparing the results of burst testing with the results of FE analysis. Moreover, the reduced maximum allowable working pressure (MAWPr), which is calculated by fitness-for-service (FFS) assessment, and the safety margin for burst pressure are investigated. The burst pressure calculated by FEA agrees well with the test results, except for square wall thinning for circumferential angles of less than 15°. Also, the safety margin of MAWPr based on FFS-1 Part 4 is over 4.0 times for burst pressure.

Boilers and pressure vessels are heavily used in numerous industrial plants, and damaged equipment in the plants is often detected by visual inspection or non-destructive inspection techniques. The most common type of damage is wall thinning due to corrosion under insulation (CUI) or flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), or both. Any damaged equipment must be repaired or replaced as necessary as soon as possible after damage has been detected. Moreover, optimization of the time required to replace damaged equipment by evaluating the load carrying capacity of boilers and pressure vessels with wall thinning is expected by engineers in the chemical industrial field. In the present study, finite element analysis (FEA) is used to evaluate the load carrying capacity in T-joints with wall thinning. Burst pressure is a measure of the load carrying capacity in T-joints with wall thinning. The T-joints subjected to burst testing are carbon steel tubes for pressure service STPG370 (JIS G3454). The burst pressure is investigated by comparing the results of burst testing with the results of FEA. Moreover, the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of T-joints with wall thinning is calculated, and the safety margin for the burst pressure is investigated. The burst pressure in T-joints with wall thinning can be estimated the safety side using FEA regardless of whether the model is a shell model or a solid model. The MAWP is 2.6 MPa and has a safety margin 7.5 for burst pressure. Moreover, the MAWP is assessed the as a safety side, although the evaluation is too conservative for the burst pressure.

Abstract:
The concerns about Fitness-For-Service (FFS) assessment technique for pressure equipments with local metal loss have been growing from some characteristic damages, for example, many examples of the corrosion under insulation (CUI) of pressure equipment, have been reported from petroleum and petrochemical industries. FFS assessment procedure for the pressure equipments for metal loss has been validated by the results of various burst tests and FEM simulations for internal pressure loads. There has, however, been little study to validate FFS assessment for pressure equipments subjected to seismic load. This paper suggests an FFS assessment procedure for pressure equipments with local metal loss subjected to both internal pressure and seismic loading. To ensure consistency to High Pressure Gas Law in Japan, allowable stress is based on the Japanese seismic design code. Developed stress on local metal loss from both internal pressure and seismic load is evaluated in accordance with API 579/ASME FFS-1. The authors have verified safety margin and reliability of this method to toward to practical application. In order to verify, some cyclic bending load testings and finite element analysis were implemented under the conditions of ambient temperature and 300 degree C. The results of these validations show that the safety margins against low cycle fatigue are the range of 2.6 to 4.6. In addition, the test results at 300 degree C showed higher safety margin than that in ambient temperature.
