Data published in 2016 PINTEC (Innovation Survey), conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics for the 2012-2014 triennium with 13,846 food companies, showed that only 45% innovated in products and/or processes. AbstractWe report on the design, specification and implementation of a situation awareness module used for assistive systems in manufacturing, in the context of Industry 4.0. A recent survey of research done in Germany and Europe, concerning assistive technology in industry shows a very high potential for “intelligent assistance” by combining smart sensors, networking and AI. While the state of the art concerning actual technology in industrial use points more towards user-friendly, speech-based interaction with personal assistants for information retrieval (typically of in-house documentation), the research presented here addresses an enterprise-level assistance system that is supported by a number of specialized Assistance Units that can be customized to the end users’ specifications and that range from tutoring systems to tele-robotics. Key to the approach is situation awareness, which is achieved through a combination of a-priori, task knowledge modelling and dynamic situation assessment on the basis of observation streams coming from sensors, cameras and microphones. The paper describes a working fragment of the industrial task description language and its extensions to cover also the triggering of assistive interventions when the observation modules have sent data that warrants such interventions.

Chapter 1 contextualizes the world music industry in the larger music and culture industries. Since its birth in 1987, world music has been a vague category. It has encompassed an enormous variety of music: traditional and folk musics, newly composed traditional musics, and vintage and contemporary popular musics. What, then, is “world music”? Despite 50 years of cost accuracy research, companies are generally unable to quantify the worst outcomes. In the process industries about 10 percent of large projects overrun their budgets by 70 percent or more. The system behavior of these blowouts often reflects disorder. For complex projects, the blowout proportion is 15 to 30 percent of projects. Many risk analysts ignore the worst outcomes as “unknown-unknowns” or “black swans”; but they are neither—we know the causes and their impact is somewhat predictable. Cost disasters start with a mix of systemic weakness and risk events. The cost of mundane projects may overrun by 20 to 40% which is bad but no disaster (financiers assume they will overrun by 25%). Add complexity and stress and the projects can cross a “tipping point” into disorder and chaos with cost overruns of 50, 100 or 200 percent-true disasters. This chapter describes complexity risk and the disorder it can lead to, practical measures of complexity and stress and how to incorporate those measures in non-linear risk quantification models.

Methods: An anonymous survey was conducted online among health IT personnel, asking them about their experiences about BYOD usage in their hospitals. 28 responses were collected based on public Australian hospitals, which included 21 hospital groups and 7 standalone hospitals, likely to represent more than 100 hospitals in total. Survey responses were quantitatively analysed through descriptive statistical analysis and cross tabulation. Results: BYOD is allowed in majority of the hospitals, and among all major staff groups, with doctors being the leading group. Participants ranked reasons for allowing BYOD, and most of them were related to improvement in clinical productivity, efficiency and mobility for clinical staff. Challenges were generally related to data security such as patient data breaches and compliance with data security laws, according to them. More than two thirds of hospitals had a cybersecurity officer employed, and CIOs were the most dominant group who held responsibility for managing BYOD within the hospital. Conclusion: This paper provides a starting point for better understanding of BYOD usage in a complex healthcare environment based on empirical evidence, one which highlights the security-usability conundrum, confirming previous literature themes.

The authors have referred to the role of simulators in achieving the desired level of specialist competence by flight personnel, including, among others, such issues as aircraft simulators development, and their application in the aviation training; aircraft simulators classification in accordance with current aviation regulations; essential functions performed by aviation simulators; flight simulator is an essential tool for basic and in-service training of the aviation personnel.
