For many years, containment for errant racing vehicles traveling on oval speedways has been provided through rigid, concrete containment walls placed around the exterior of the track. However, accident experience has shown that serious injuries and fatalities may occur through vehicular impacts into these nondeformable barriers. Because of these injuries, the Indy Racing League and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, later joined by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), sponsored the development of a new barrier system by the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility at the Universi

We call them computer games, but the label is a futile attempt to fix definition on a phenomenon marked by accelerated change, which is driven by technological innovation and which in consequence impels more change. There are thousands of computer games on the market today, although most of them are not in fact games in the technical sense of the term. They range from little hand-held electronic puzzles to multi-media simulations that require top of the Une hardware to run and hundreds of megs of storage space on CD-ROM. This paper uses daily hotel occupancy data for the Indianapolis metro area from STR to estimate the effect of multi-day conventions on hotel demand. In addition to multi-day conventions, we hand collect data on other major events such as the Indy 500 and major sporting events. Hotel demand is an important part of the economic activity generated by multi-day events because hotel rooms are largely occupied by out-of-town guests and represent new local economic activity. We look at the effect of conventions and other large events in Indianapolis on average daily room rates, revenue per room, dema

NaCT (sodium-coupled citrate transporter) is an Na+-coupled citrate transporter identified recently in mammals that mediates the cellular uptake of citrate. It is expressed predominantly in the liver. NaCT is structurally and functionally related to the product of the Indy (I'm not dead yet) gene in Drosophila, the dysfunction of which leads to lifespan extension. Here, we show that NaCT mediates the utilization of extracellular citrate for fat synthesis in human liver cells, and that the process is stimulated by lithium. The transport function of NaCT is enhanced by lithium at concentrations

Globally, exposure to unhealthy levels of particulate matter, including BC, is estimated to cause between three and six million excess deaths every year. These health impacts – and the related economic losses – are felt disproportionately by those living in low- and middle-income countries. Furthermore, BC is a potent greenho
