The first objective of infant formulas is to ensure the healthy growth of neonates and infants, as the sole complete food source during the first months of life when a child cannot be breastfed. Beyond this nutritional aspect, infant nutrition companies also try to mimic breast milk in its unique immuno-modulating properties. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the intestinal microbiota under the influence of diet shapes the maturation of the immune system and influences the risk of atopic diseases in infants. A new challenge for dairy industries is, therefore, to develop infant formulas i

Aim and Objective: To evaluate the probiotic potenties along with safety of probiotics within infant faecal origin. Methods and Results: The present study isolates lactic acid bacteria from infant feces were characterized and identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. On evaluation of in vitro probiotic capability, the test isolates exhibited in vitro probiotic potency, antagonistic property and better cell surface properties. The Bile salt hydrolase activity, cholesterol assimilation, antioxidant activity and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitory action of the test isolates proves their health con

Why do some countries indulge in urban bias, potentially harming economic development in the process, while others promote a vibrant agricultural sector? Two main explanations have been put forth. On the one hand, market failures, due to information asymmetries, mean that farmers who dearly require credit to succeed are shut out of lending markets, even if lenders could potentially benefit from making loans more readily available. On the other hand, political failures, due to state capture, mean that farmers will be subject to implicit taxes as a way of generating rents for politically powerfu

ABSTRACT This paper examines Mihail Manoilescu’s Theory of Protectionism. Its main point was the defense of a permanent or general protection of high productivity sectors, contrasting with List’s temporary protection of infant industries. Manoilescu’s reasoning goes into a contradiction. He argued that the productivity of agriculture and the productivity of industry would equalize in the long-term. In that case, protection would no longer be necessary. So, his argument needs an additional assumption, that is variable costs of production. Manoilescu mentioned the presence of increasing returns

Abstract:
Acetylation is one of the most used chemical modifications to improve the functional properties of starches. This allows the esterification of native starches by introducing acetyl groups into their structure. The objective of this study was to enhance the value of purple corn from Côte d'Ivoire. Some functional properties and enzymatic digestibility of acetylated and native starches of three cultivars of this maize have been determined. To this end, these maize were harvested in Katiola, a town on the Ivory Coast. The results showed that purple corn starch was modified using 10.2% acetic anhy

Neoteny refers to a set of infant-like characteristics which, if present in even adult non-human animals, are found endearing by humans and activates nurturing responses in them. These features are large eyes, short limbs, a large head compared to the body, upright posture and a generally rounded configuration etc. Konrad Lorenz calls these features collectively as ‘child schema.’ In culture industries, toy and doll-makers, as well as cartoon film-makers, exploit this tendency of their consumers to increase their sales by representing animals neotenically. It is a process of deliberate juvenil

This study is an effort to examine whether there is a potential of variations in tax efforts of different types in making a positive impact on economic growth in a typical developing economy. We take the case of Nepal and analyse 44 years (1975–2018) of time series data of growth and fiscal variables. We conclude that Nepal has already reached its optimal tax GDP ratio. Additional efforts to collect more tax revenue are counter-productive; rather, it should take some other structural measures for higher GDP growth. Implementation of several scenarios of revenue replacement does not have a sign

AbstractSri Lanka is an island country located in the Indian Ocean, characterized by tropical weather, with an estimated population of 21.4 million in 2017, one third of them being children. Advancing and rapidly changing technology, novel industries, consumer goods and equipment have introduced new health hazards of a chemical, biological and physical nature to future generations. The infant mortality rate has declined to around 8–9 per 100,000 since 2015. Congenital malformations were the most significant cause of neonatal death. Thus, there might be unproven environmental factors which affe
