Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of the women infected with the Human Inmunodefficiency Virus (HIV) who were seen at the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia from January 1989 to December 1996. Material and Methods: We did a retrospective chart review of their demographic and medical registers. We used the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) classification for the HIV infection. (Stages I-IV). Results: We included 236 women, from 17 to 60 years old, with a mean age of 30.4 years. The number of diagnosed cases per year of infected women increased from 5 in 1989 to 63 in 1996. The probable means of acquisition of infection was heterosexual intercourse in 212 patients (90.2%). Only had one sexual partner in her life 113 (47.8%) of the patients seen. There were 4 (1.6%) sexual workers and there were no intravenous drug users. A percentage of 23.4% have had other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), and these were more prevalent in women who had risky sexual practices (p=0.005). Out of the 236, 69 women had diagnosis of Acquired Inmunodefficiency Syndrome (AIDS) The most frequent AIDS-defining condition was the Wasting Syndrome in 23 women (33.3%). There were 19 deaths within the study period. The mean survival time after the AIDS diagnosis was 10.6 months and the most frequent death cause was Tuberculosis and Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia. Conclusion: The fact of having a predominantly heterosexual transmission and that there is a high percentage of monogamous women and women with few sexual partners make us suppose that it is probably their partners risk sexual behavior what exposes women to HIV infection. We must underline the importance of an adequate information to women who start their sexual life and of the risks these bring, and the diffusion of the use of condoms to prevent this infection.

Abstract:
Introduction: Human Immunodeficiency Virus infected patients have an increased risk for developing different types of cancer. After the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), and consequent increased survival, a shift has been seen in the spectrum and evolution of HIV infection related diseases, particularly oncological ones, with a tendency to increase non-AIDS-defining malignancies (NADM) as opposed to AIDS defining malignancies.
Material and Methods: Characterization of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus infected patients with a non-AIDS defining malignancy diagnosis, followed over 16 years at an outpatient clinic in Lisbon through the review of medical records and retrospective evaluation of demographic, epidemiological, clinical and laboratorial parameters, treatment and mortality.
Results: Of the 1042 patients evaluated, there were 34 Non- AIDS defining malignancy cases identified, mostly in men (78%), with a median age of 55 years. The most common cancers were: lung (20.6%), bladder (17.6%), prostate (8.8%), and anal carcinoma (5.9%). The mean time between Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection and non-AIDS-defining malignancy diagnosis was 6.8 ± 4 years. At the time of non-AIDS- defining malignancy diagnosis the majority of patients (78.8%) was receiving HAART for a mean period of 5.7 ± 3 years, most of whom were immune and virologically controlled (64%). There were 45.5% deaths, mainly in patients with lung cancer (20%).
Conclusion: Given the risk of developing a non-AIDS-defining malignancy in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-infected patients, it is essential to continue to invest in prevention strategies, promote smoking cessation as well as vaccination programs, as well as applying screening protocols adjusted to this population.

Abstract:
AbstractThe increase in HIV / AIDS infection in the last 20 years is a priority of health systems in the world. It is characterized by its multiple forms of transmission, is located within the primary viral infections. The development of new therapeutic alternatives has reduced the mortality rate. However, the disorder in the quality of life and the economic increase in treatments are the effects that affect infected people. Added to this, the ignorance of the infection makes this problem more alarming, with young people being a vulnerable population. In this sense, determining seroprevalence in university students is essential. Seroprevalence was determined in the serum of 1006 youngsters employing the enzyme immunoassay technique. The results revealed the presence of high-risk groups and new cases of HIV infection in this population.Key words: Prevalence, HIV, AIDS, Young, University students.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the present chapter, some notable features (epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical characteristics) regarding recent outbreak COVID-19 have been reviewed. Most significant features related to COVID-19 such as (i) roots of infection and disease manifestation, (ii) shape and structure of viral S-protein, (iii) genome sequence study and replication in host cell, (iv) role of environmental factors, (v) diagnosis tools and (vi) role of biosensor have been critically investigated. The biological and behavioral risk factors for pregnant women before and after child birth have been dictated clearly. Pulmonary abnormalities due to COVID-19 of the patient having diabetes, cancer etc. history have been clarified with help of CT imaging. Finally, prevention and cure strategies adopted by many health professionals based on the existing drugs are mentioned with their side effects.
