Pecan scab, caused by the fungus Cladosporium caryigenum (Ell. et Lant) Gottwald, produces more damage to pecan than all other diseases and insects combined. Early events during infection are critical to disease establishment and to expression of host resistance, but have not been examined previously. Objectives of this research were to determine if there is regulation of appressorial formation and if it is related to resistance. Pre-infectional host-pathogen interactions were studied in vivo (on leaves) and in vitro (on callus, dialysis membrane, and agar) with light and electron microscopy.

In the North-West Caucasus, the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is involved in maintaining natural foci of helminth infections that have medical and veterinary importance. In the region, 160 carcasses of red foxes obtained in 4 landscape and geographical zones were examined by the method of complete helminthological dissections in 2010-2023. The infection prevalence and intensity parameters were determined. The helminth infection rate in the fox was 96.2%. The helminthic cenosis was represented by 30 species of parasitic worms. The infection of the wolf with two zoonotic helminth infections, echinococcosis and trichinellosis, was monitored in the Kirov Region. The method of helminthological dissections and compressor trichinelloscopy studied 45 wolves obtained by hunters in the Kirov Region. One hundred foxes and 30 raccoon dogs underwent a helminthological dissection. Wolves are a source of echinococcosis in natural biocenoses. When they visit populated areas, they disseminate helminth eggs. The percentage of Echinococcus granulosus infected predators ranged from 25.9 to 33.3%. Intermediate hosts are the moose and t

Diseases caused by Colletotrichum spp. are one of the most important limitations on international strawberry production, affecting all vegetative and fruiting parts of the plant. From 1995 to 1997, C. acutatum infections reached epidemic levels in Israeli strawberry nurseries, causing extensive loss of transplants in fruit-bearing fields and additional reductions in yield. Although C. acutatum also occurs on strawberry in Florida, recent crown rot epidemics have been primarily caused by C. gloeosporioides. Little is known about the basic epidemiology of these important diseases on strawberry.
