Service reliability is one of the main factors influencing public transport level of service and, thus, passengers’ satisfaction. Public transport services are subject to various sources of uncertainty related to traffic conditions, public transport operations and passenger demand. Many popular digital maps are aiming for a simple design with little visuals to aid the user. This study investigates what impact visual aids on a map have on how users estimate the length of travel times. To answer this question an experiment was conducted. The participants were to estimate the travel times between a dozen pairs of points on different maps. Three types of visual aids were tested during the experiment: nothing but the roads and the geography, a grid, and a set of circles centered around the same point. In the context of intelligent environments with the ability to provide support within our homes and in the workplace, the activity recognition process plays a critical role. Activity recognition can be applied to many real-life, humancentric problems such as elder care and health care. This thesis focuses on the recognizing high level human activity through a model driven approach to activity recognition, whereby a constraint-based domain description is used to correlate sensor readings to human activities. An important quality of sensor readings is that they are often uncertain or imprecise.
