Abstract:
In the era of industry 4.0, especially in the agricultural sector, using ICT as a communication and information-gathering medium for farmers is crucial. However, the ICT adoption level by smallholder farmers varies greatly. This study investigates the elements influencing the ICT adoption level and utilization and explores the application of the TAM to smallholder farmers. Using descriptive quantitative methodology on three villages in Ngawi regency, East Java (N=53), this study indicated that smartphone usage in the research location was extremely high at 90.5%. A Spearman correlation value of 0.24 indicates a relationship between the PU and the education level of farmers. T-Test Two Means Independent was used to compare respondents' perception of ICT utilization through Perceived Use (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEU); PU's average value of 17.5 was greater than PEU's average value of 13.9. It was determined that ICT perceived usefulness was felt more important than perceived ease of use by the respondents in their daily activities. Additionally, this study recommends that agriculture services development necessitates strategies to create ICT usefulness through smartphones. Such strategies will help increase the ICT effective adoption, reducing information gaps and raising the wealth of smallholder farmers.

Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate the utilization pattern of ICT services by Bangladeshi microfinance institutions (MFIs). In so doing, this exploratory study interviews the staff of 10 prominent MFIs to underscore the ICT usage pattern of the organizations. The questions focused on the usage pattern of seven aspects of digital services such as website, ATM, e-cards and mobile financial services (MFS), smartphone use, MIS, customized software for different departments, and electronic mail and file management system. The results reveal that all the organizations maintain websites and use smartphones for internal and external communications, while none incorporated the services of ATM, debit, or credit cards. Moreover, it finds that only 20 percent of the MFIs included MFS to facilitate transactions and an identical proportion of institutions have electronic mail and e-file management services for their office management. It also claims that employing management information systems (MIS) and using customized software accounts for 20% and 40%, respectively. Therefore, policymakers and microfinance organization should take the necessary steps to foster the use of digital services in the business process so that costs can be minimized to attain the principles of outreach and sustainability.

Abstract Population aging is accompanied by an increase in chronic diseases such as cancer. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer and a leading cause of cancer death. Screening tests can aid early detection and treatment. It is unclear how information and communication technology (ICT), especially media through mobile devices, influences cancer screening. This study analyzes the relationship between ICT usage and colon cancer screening among U.S. adults. Data are from the second cycle of the Health Information National Trend Survey 5. Cancer screening included having one of the following: colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and/or stool blood test to check for colon cancer. Approximately 70% of respondents had at least some college education, 51% were female, and the mean age was 48 years. More than half of respondents report using apps on a tablet or smartphone for health and wellness purposes, and around 70% of them used apps for health communication and decision-making. Based on results of a binary logistic regression model, people who use mobile apps for discussions with health care providers (p<0.01), who use the internet to look for information about cancer (p <0.01), and who do not use mobile apps to make decisions about how to treat an illness or condition (p<0.01) are more likely to conduct cancer screening. ICT usage may enable people to gather information about cancer screening and improve patient and physician communication. Future studies should explore longitudinal associations between ICT usage, cancer screening, and cancer outcomes.

Digital technology is crucial in advancing digital agriculture by enabling farmers to access valuable information such as planting schedules, pest and disease management, and market price trends. Despite its potential, the use of ICT by farmers remains limited due to inadequate internet access. In 2018, only about 25.7% of farmers in Indonesia had internet connectivity. Given this situation, it is essential to investigate the efficiency of ICT utilization among farmers, particularly in the Kebumen Regency. This research aims to understand farmers' perceptions of ICT usage and identify the diversity of ICT access at the farmer level. The study involved 90 rice farmers in Kebumen Regency. Access to ICT tools in this research refers to smartphones, computers, and laptops. Farmers' perceptions of ICT usage were assessed using a four-point Likert scale with the following options: strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree. The development of the survey statements was guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory, which identifies two key factors influencing technology adoption: Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU). The findings reveal that smartphones are the most widely used among the various ICT tools available to farmers. The study also indicates that farmers generally perceive the usefulness (PU) and ease of use (PEOU) of ICT tools. Based on these results, future agricultural extension strategies should prioritize the development of applications that are easily accessible via smartphones.

Several studies have been conducted to examine the influence of technology on the travel and tourism industry. However, there exists limited literature on the adaptation and usage of Smartphone technology by Kenyan tour guides, a gap this study sought to address. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on tour guiding performance in Kenya, investigate the effect of smartphone usage on the guides’ performance and finally, explore the possibility of adoption smart guiding techniques by Kenya’s tour guides. The study used descriptive methods and target practicing tour guides as the respondents. The data collected was analyzed using the Pearson’s Chi-square test of independence. The findings indicated Smartphone technology positively influenced guides, performance (χ2=65.025;df 2; P<0.05).The study concluded that smartphone and information communication technology have significantly influenced guides performance and hence recommend to the government and other stakeholders to invest more in infrastructure that supports smart destinations, which offer interactive pre-tour services, during the tour and post-tour experiences. Innovation on applications that support real-time interaction with attractions, accommodation and financial institutions is recommended.

This study aims to reveal students' and lecturers' perspectives on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including its pros and cons, and to cultivate a technology-friendly environment in colleges. It extensively examines the potential benefits and challenges linked to integrating Mobile Technology in education. Moreover, the research seeks to understand how both students and educators perceive mobile technology use among college students, evaluating its advantages and disadvantages. This study employs the Connectivism theory as the analytical framework to evaluate the study's outcomes. Data analysis involves the utilization of frequency analysis. The research design is characterized as a concurrent mixed methods approach. The primary research instruments utilized encompass a semi-structured questionnaire and an interview checklist. The target population consists of 700 students and 22 teaching faculties enrolled in Bachelor's degree programs, with 152 students and all 22 faculties selected as respondents. Upon the comprehensive integration and synthesis of data, a total of 14 fundamental themes and two overarching perception themes were discerned through the analysis process. The findings reveal that smart phones are widely used among college students for studying, communication, and accessing information. Meanwhile, students and lecturers have acknowledged both the benefits and the potential negative impacts on academic performance. The study provides valuable insights into the perceptions and experiences of students and educators regarding the usage of mobile technology in education. As technology continues to play a vital role in education, it is essential to foster a conducive learning environment by leveraging its advantages while mitigating its potential drawbacks.

Abstract:
This study investigates teachers' access to digital technologies in Public Basic Schools in Asante Akim Central Municipality, Ghana. The study uses a quantitative approach to evaluate the availability and types of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools, teachers' motivational and physical comfort with digital technologies, and their skills and usage patterns. Engaging with 108 teachers highlights gaps in access to and use of ICT tools. The results demonstrate that while teachers have access to digital tools such as laptops and smartphones, their access to specific software and digital tools is limited. In terms of motivation, teachers are primarily intrinsically motivated to use digital technologies. Teachers exhibited comfort and confidence in utilizing ICT tools, indicating operational skills and access to ICT. The findings underline the need to address these educational implementation gaps and reduce the digital divide. This research contributes to the literature on digital technology access in developing countries and provides valuable insights for stakeholders involved in integrating educational technology.

With the considerable growth in the information and communication technology (ICT), several smartphone-based mobility platforms have already sprung up and they have the potential of transforming the mobility ecosystem completely. However, there is close to no knowledge available about how ICT-based smartphone apps meant for day-to-day trip planning tasks are being used across various user groups and how they influence travel outcomes, especially in Indian cities. Therefore, this study is an effort to close this gap by gathering data from the city of Bhopal and carrying out an exploratory statistical analysis on the usage of smartphone apps for different types of trip planning purposes, as well as their influence on travel outcomes. The study provides empirical evidence of relationships between smartphone app usage for trip planning (such as departure time, destination selection, mode selection, route selection, communicating and coordinating trips, and performing tasks online rather than visiting) and the resulting travel outcomes, such as kilometres travelled by vehicle (for purposes, such as work/education, shopping, and recreation), social gatherings, new destinations, and group trips. The chi-square test has been used to test and interpret several socioeconomic variables that could influence this relationship, such as gender, age, income, etc. The study’s findings provide important behavioural insights that may be useful in policy discussions.

Information and communications technology (ICT) is a useful tool in the modern world, becoming indispensable, particularly in the educational setting. With this, the researchers looked into the ICT access of the faculty in colleges and universities in Central Visayas, Philippines. This access was measured through Faculty’s ICT Access (FICTA), administered through online surveys. Study findings revealed that faculty had physical access to ICT, evidenced by their acquisition of laptop computers, smartphones, Internet connections, and office suite software. Moreover, teachers were highly motivated to use ICT and highly skilled to operate, search, and strategize online. They also had high usage of ICT in their general and instructional work. Furthermore, motivation, skills, and usage access were significantly associated with one another. In conclusion, teachers have access to ICT which made their teaching better. Better digital infrastructure, more capability training, and encouraged utilization of ICT are recommended at the higher educational level in the country.

Today's workplace is strongly influenced by digital information and communication technologies (ICT). Remote work raises new demands regarding employees’ availability as well as work engagement and requires new rules. However, how social practices regulate smartphone use in organisations has seldom been investigated. This paper explores the use of smartphone technology in organisations and how to implement formal rules. The analysis of 12 qualitative in-depth interviews with employees in a profit-oriented and a public service organisation confirms and enriches the types of usage as suggested by Orlikowski’s work on information technologies in organisations. In addition, we suggest reframing the non-enactment of smartphone technology as a constructive practice of ensuring productivity and employee well-being instead of being caused by a lack of technical know-how, or fear of losing power. In addition, three different types of practices for formally governing work-related smartphone use in new work arrangements have been identified: a) formalising the implicit communication etiquette, b) designing rules for specific organisational contexts and c) making use of technical resources. From a practical point of view, we recommend managers introduce a participatory process to design a formal policy that builds on established social practices.

Technology has revolutionised everyday existence. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is essential to society, employment, and education. Improved microelectronics has facilitated the proliferation of inexpensive portable devices such as smartphones. This study, therefore, investigated whether senior secondary school students' nomophobia and smartphone addiction are linked to math anxiety. Two research hypotheses were tested and the study was guided by social cognitive theory. This study employed a descriptive survey research methodology and primary data were collected from 397 students in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria with the use of the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q, α=0.89), the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version (SAS-SV, α=0.82), and the Mathematics Anxiety Scale (MAS, α=0.81) developed by Yildirim and Correia (2015), Kwon et al. (2013), and Ablian and Parangat (2022) respectively. The data gathered were subjected to analysis using frequency counts, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis at 0.05 significance level. This analysis was conducted using SPSS software, specifically version 23.0. The research revealed a significant association between nomophobia and smartphone addiction among the students. Additionally, the severity of nomophobia and smartphone addiction emerged as significant predictors of mathematics anxiety among high schools in Lagos. Consequently, this investigation proposes that educational authorities in Lagos State should consider implementing a ban on mobile phone usage within secondary schools as a means to mitigate these behavioural addictions among adolescents. Additionally, stakeholders within the education sector, including parents, can contribute to the prevention of these addictions by advising students about the perils of smartphone addiction, fostering ethical social interactions that cultivate trust in the family unit, and imposing restrictions on their children's smartphone usage and associated expenses.

<em>This study investigated the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on students&rsquo; academic performance in selected tertiary institutions in Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State. The study evaluated the extent of ICT adoption, students' access to ICT resources, proficiency in using ICT tools, integration of ICT in teaching and learning, challenges faced in ICT utilization, and the relationship between ICT usage and academic performance. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to students and educators from four selected institutions: Benue State University (BSU), Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JSTU), the Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST), and Makurdi College of Nursing Sciences. The findings reveal that while access to smartphones and the internet is relatively high among students, access to computers and online learning platforms remains limited. Additionally, students exhibit higher proficiency in using smartphones and the internet compared to computers and online learning platforms, indicating a need for improved digital literacy. The study also shows that ICT integration in teaching and learning is minimal, with low adoption of computers, projectors, and online learning platforms by educators. The Key challenges affecting ICT utilization include inadequate access to ICT infrastructure, high costs of internet and devices, lack of digital literacy, inconsistent power supply, and institutional limitations such as inadequate ICT gadgets and training. The study establishes a significant positive relationship between ICT usage and students&rsquo; academic performance, as students who actively engage with ICT tools tend to achieve better academic results. Based on these findings, the study recommends increased investment in ICT infrastructure, digital training programs for students and educators, improved internet accessibility, and the implementation of institutional policies that promote ICT integration in teaching and learning. Further studies are suggested to explore the long-term effects of ICT on academic performance, comparative analyses of ICT adoption in urban and rural institutions, and the role of specific ICT tools in different academic disciplines. Thus, this research highlights the critical role of ICT in enhancing students&rsquo; learning experiences and academic success, emphasizing the need for strategic interventions to maximize the benefits of ICT in tertiary education.</em>

Abstract:
Traditional extension fails to fulfil the different demands of rural farmers, who are often cut off from mainstream information sources. The results highlight the importance of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in connecting smallholder farmers to larger agricultural information systems. A survey study was conducted in Danuta, Eastern Nepal, to assess the usage of ICTs and their determinants in farming. A total of two hundred and twenty-four households were randomly selected, and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed a significant reliance on traditional ICTs, mobile phones, radios, and televisions, with adoption rates ranging from 79% to 90.18%. However, newer technology, internet services and smartphone apps, had lower adoption, indicating a slow integration into farming methods. Market and weather information were highlighted as the key reasons for using ICTs in farming. A logistic regression analysis identified major factors in using ICTs in farming. Younger household heads were more likely to adopt ICTs, indicating a generational split in technology acceptability. Male household heads were more likely to use ICTs than females. Borrowing loans for farming has emerged as a significant facilitator of ICT adoption. Interestingly, decreased ICT usage was associated with higher academic status, highlighting the necessity for focused efforts to bridge this disparity. Overall, the study implies the role of ICTs in improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods in Nepal. Policymakers and stakeholders can use ICTs to empower farmers, improve information distribution, and promote sustainable agriculture by removing access barriers and fostering the digital literacy.

Abstract:
The study investigated the accessibility and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among undergraduates at Yezin Agricultural University (YAU) in Myanmar, focusing on their ICT literacy competencies. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the study employed stratified random sampling to select 239 students for data collection through structured questionnaires during the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, complemented by face-to-face interviews. Findings revealed that students owned an average of two ICT devices and spent over seven hours daily using them, with mobile devices being particularly prominent. Senior students demonstrated more frequent computer use compared to juniors, and over 90% had taken ICT-related courses. Websites were the primary source for information retrieval, while group discussions were preferred for communication. However, the study noted minimal use of multimedia resources and artificial intelligence (AI). Students exhibited competent basic skills in computers and smartphones, but their proficiency in software like Microsoft Office and audio/video editing was only medium, with significant gaps in Learning Management Systems (LMS) and AI technologies. Upper-semester students showed slightly better ICT skills than their lower-semester counterparts. The undergraduates in the YAU were found to have moderate ICT literacy skills (mean = 2.99). The study highlighted the need for enhanced training in multimedia and AI applications to equip students for contemporary digital challenges. It also found a significant correlation between the number of ICT tools used and skill level (r = 0.242, P &lt; 0.01). The insights gained from the study can be applied to refine educational practices, including those related to learning, teaching, and administration, thus supporting the pursuit of quality education in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).

Tinder is a location-based smartphone application used by young adults. Advertised as a popular and unique way to forge connections, Tinder’s introduction into intimate life is indicative of increased information and communication technology (ICT) usage within this sphere. While the impact of ICT use within intimate life has been debated, little sociological research has investigated Tinder within this context. This article draws on data from a small scale exploratory study, including surveys (n = 203) and interviews (n = 10), examining the use of Tinder by young Australians (aged 18 to 30) and how use contributes to intimate outcomes. While survey results provide insight regarding engagement with Tinder and its use in intimate life, two key themes – (1) Tinder’s use as an additional tool in intimate life and (2) its perceived impact on ‘connection quality’ – demonstrate Tinder’s role in intimate outcomes. Findings support Jurgenson’s depiction of today’s societies as ones characterised by augmented reality rather than digital dualism.

Abstract Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is permeating all facets of contemporary life, offering unprecedented convenience. Nonetheless, the digital schism is becoming increasingly pronounced, particularly among the older demographic. Instances where traditional social engagements are hindered, such as the inability to operate ATMs without ICT proficiency, may render older adults socially precarious. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, digital interactions supplanted face-to-face engagements. This study aims to scrutinize the surge in ICT adoption among middle-aged and older Japanese adults during the pandemic. An internet survey targeting individuals aged 50-69 residing in the Tokyo and Osaka metropolitan areas was conducted in March 2021. Participants exhibited a notable escalation in smartphone, tablet, personal computer, and WiFi utilization by 26.2%, 14.5%, 21.6%, and 24.3%, respectively. Moreover, 3.5%, 6.5%, 7.9%, and 34.8% of respondents commenced utilizing audio, images, videos, and online platforms, respectively, during the pandemic. Subsequently, multiple regression analyses were performed to discern factors influencing the adoption of these technologies. Participants manifested heightened usage of devices they were already familiar with. Furthermore, favorable evaluation of internet utility, female gender, non-employment status, and initiation of audiovisual media usage during the pandemic were positively associated with increased utilization of the aforementioned ICT devices. In conclusion, COVID-19 has played a pivotal role in mitigating the digital schism. Subsequent research endeavors should explore strategies to bolster middle-aged ICT engagement in the post-pandemic landscape.

Subjective age (i.e., how old one feels) has been found to be a biopsychosocial marker of aging. This study examined the associations between subjective age and the frequency of information and communication technology (ICT) usage by older adults. Data were collected via an online survey conducted in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study analyzed responses from participants aged 65 to 89 (M = 71.9, SD = 3.9) who resided in Japan (N = 1631, 52.8% women). Subjective age was indexed by asking participants to specify in years how old they felt. Proportional discrepancy scores (PDS) were calculated to indicate younger or older subjective age and were used as an independent variable. Participants were asked about the frequency of computer, smartphone, flip phone, tablet, and social networking service (SNS) use. Two-thirds of the participants (63.6%) reported feeling younger than their actual age. Nearly 90% reported using computers for more than 2–3 days a week, while 64.3% reported smartphone use, 22.9% reported flip phone use, and 36.6% reported SNS use. Logistic regression analyses revealed that a lower PDS (i.e., feeling younger) was associated with a significantly higher frequency of smartphone use (OR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.60, 0.98) after adjusting for potential confounders. No such association was found for computer, flip phone, tablet, or SNS use. Our study found that feeling younger was associated with a higher frequency of smartphone use. The daily use of smartphones may have helped older adults stay in touch with family and friends and obtain the information that they needed, which may have contributed to better psychological well-being outcomes, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background Violence is a public health problem. Hospital-based violence intervention programs such as the San Francisco Wraparound Project (WAP) have been shown to reduce future violent injury. The WAP model employs culturally competent case managers who recruit and enroll violently injured patients as clients. Client acceptance of the WAP intervention is variable, and program success depends on streamlined, timely communication and access to resources. High rates of smartphone usage in populations who are at risk for violent reinjury create an opportunity to design a tailored information and communications technology (ICT) tool to support hospital-based violence intervention programs. Objective Current evidence shows that ICT tools developed in the health care space may not be successful in engaging vulnerable populations. The goal of this study was to use human-centered design methodology to identify the unique communication needs of the clients and case managers at WAP to design a mobile ICT. Methods We conducted 15 semi-structured interviews with users: clients, their friends and families, case managers, and other stakeholders in violence intervention and prevention. We used a human-centered design and general inductive approach to thematic analysis to identify themes in the qualitative data, which were extrapolated to insight statements and then reframed into design opportunities. Wireframes of potential mobile ICT app screens were developed to depict these opportunities. Results Thematic analysis revealed four main insights that were characterized by the opposing needs of our users. (1) A successful relationship is both professional and personal. Clients need this around the clock, but case managers can only support this while on the clock. (2) Communications need to feel personal, but they do not always need to be personalized. (3) Healing is a journey of skill development and lifestyle changes that must be acknowledged, monitored, and rewarded. (4) Social networks need to provide peer support for healing rather than peer pressure to propagate violence. These insights resulted in the following associated design opportunities: (1) Maximize personal connection while controlling access, (2) allow case managers to personalize automated client interactions, (3) hold clients accountable to progress and reward achievements, and (4) build a connected, yet confidential community. Conclusions Human-centered design enabled us to identify unique insights and design opportunities that may inform the design of a novel and tailored mobile ICT tool for the WAP community.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the nature of the inequalities in the usage of the internet and inequalities in the growth rate in the usage of the internet, and thus ascertain the possibility of convergence of the digital divide between the major regions of the world. Design/methodology/approach The design was a longitudinal study of the usage of internet and growth rate in the usage of the internet in the different regions of the world for the period 2009–2019. The quantitative research method was used. Simple percentages and F-test were used in data analysis. Findings The usage of internet in Asia and Europe is higher than all the other regions in the world but there is no significant difference in usage between the other regions. The results further showed that some of the digitally disadvantaged regions had higher growth rates in the usage of the internet and these digitally disadvantage states are not disadvantaged in access to smartphones and the emerging 5G technology, thus suggesting the possibility of imminent convergence in access to the internet given the increasing usage of smartphones for the internet subscription. Research limitations/implications The focus on internet usage in the major regions of the world without recourse to the variability of the usage and growth rate of internet usage within the regions. The dearth of the empirical literature on quantitative research on the research problem was another constraint. Finally, restriction in available statistics on digital divide constrained the use of 2009–2019 as the periodic scope of the study. Practical implications Inclusion of ICT in the school curricula of the component states to acquaint them with information and communication technology (ICT) usage at an early stage, as well as provision of the enabling environment for business to thrive and through a national culture that will encourage businesses to be vibrant, and thus lay a foundation for future convergence. Social implications Enhancement in employment opportunities through the increased investment in the ICT facilities and the subsequent reduction in social vices. Originality/value Use of secondary data through a longitudinal design to categorically indicate the differences between the different regions of the world in terms of internet usage, as well as the empirical determination of the discrepancies between the growth rates in the access to internet and usage of internet by different regions of the world, especially as regard some of the digitally disadvantaged regions having higher growth rates in the usage of the internet than the perceived digitally advantaged regions.

Nepal, in particular, has seen significant progress in its communication sector with a growing number of telephone and internet users. This study examines Nepal’s digitalization status and implementation challenges and proposes strategies and policies to address these challenges. Employing analytical and descriptive research methodologies, the study utilizes both qualitative and quantitative data from secondary sources like published research articles, books, interviews, and surveys. Convenience sampling is used, and statistical techniques including descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analyses are applied. Key findings indicate moderate levels of perceived information quality, system quality, service quality, usage intentions, user satisfaction, and net system benefits. Correlation analysis shows strong positive relationships between these variables, while regression analysis reveals their significant impact on net system benefits. Qualitative data highlights government initiatives, impacts on citizens, and challenges like employee resistance and usability issues. The study emphasizes the need for centralized data retrieval using the National ID system to streamline processes, offering valuable insights for enhancing digitalization in Nepal.

This study examines attitudes towards the use of portable devices for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption in Small and Medium-sized Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) in peri-urban areas of the South African Eastern Cape province. A comprehensive examination of portable gadgets in business ICT and their impact on SMTEs in Eastern Cape peri-urban areas was performed using a non-probability purposive sampling technique to select eight SMTEs, with a quantitative methodology approach adopted, using a structured questionnaire for an in-depth interview. Data captured from structured interview sessions were deductively coded with the aid of software (NVivo version 12), with the transcribed interview data divided into different meaningful codes in this process; developed based on the difference, similarities, and meanings that emerged. The findings suggest a positive attitude towards portable digital device and technology use in SMTEs in the tourism sector in Eastern Cape peri-urban areas. Smartphones were found to play a crucial role as essential business tools, particularly favored in rural settings, while laptops were indicated as valued for their portability, serving as indispensable tools for daily business activities, while tablets hold less significance. The results highlight participant reliance on smartphones for business operations as critical, since these devices streamline numerous tasks, improve convenience, and enable seamless connectivity while mobile. The use of tablets in the tourism and hospitality sectors appears to be limited. The finding’s additionally indicated participants are heavily reliant on laptops for routine business activities, due to their portability and convenience. Desktop computers were, furthermore, found to primarily be used as backup systems, indicating a diverse, portable ICT gadget usage pattern among participants.

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Abstract.&lt;/strong&gt; Since the end of the 20th century, the widespread availability of information and communications technology (ICT) has led to an increased use of web-based maps that have supposedly changed the use of geospatial information. Although previous studies focused on the conceptual or technical aspects of web maps, few studies have conducted an empirical analysis of the diversity of map usage. In particular, intergenerational differences in the use of digital maps have apparently expanded owing to the generation gap in the skills needed to use ICT devices. In this study, I examined variations in map usage by paying attention to the characteristics of the millennial generation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; An online survey of 624 people who signed up for participation was conducted with a research company in 2018. They were sampled equally by gender and age group and were from the Tokyo metropolitan area. A questionnaire was designed to gather data about their current state of map use, their usage of ICT devices, their degree of geospatial awareness, and demographic attributes. The difference in map usage patterns between generational groups was examined using statistical methods.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Analysis of the data revealed that most people use web maps while conventional paper maps are still widely used by the middle-aged and the elderly. In particular, intergenerational differences in map usage were observed: younger people prefer using web maps with mobile devices for checking locations but older people are still using conventional paper maps.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Among the web maps available, Google Maps was used by the majority of respondents, especially by the younger age group. The next most frequently used was Yahoo! Maps, which was mainly used by the middle-aged and older people while Apple Maps was also preferred by younger people. More than 80% of web map users browse the map with a smartphone; however, middle-aged and older groups tended to use maps with PCs. An analysis of conventional map use revealed many people use tourist maps, maps on signboards, and in-car navigation systems. However, some intergenerational differences were observed. Young people use fewer road maps and in-car navigation systems while elderly people use more housing maps and topographic maps.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; An analysis of the relationship between map use and geospatial literacy revealed that younger respondents preferred digital maps to paper maps and tended not to ask someone else for directions but relied on ICT tools to find their way. Since some studies have pointed out that the accustomed use of navigation tools may have negative effects on people’s geospatial awareness, young people’s dependence on web maps may reduce their concern with maps and geography, which is characteristic of the millennial generation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Developments in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) field have brought a significant change in the way citizens can interact with their governments. Traditional governance has been digitalised to what we now know as ‘e-governance’. E-government investments in India had seen a ‘ten-fold increase’ in 2015 with the launch of the Digital India Mission as compared to previous years. Despite this, in 2018, an e-government survey by the United Nations, India’s E-government Development Index (EGDI) was 0.5669, just above the world average of 0.55. As digital literacy is becoming increasingly common in India, along with falling data prices, increasing smartphone and mobile usage, the spotlight of e-government should focus on the usability and quality of its services and platforms. This article measures the usability of the Municipal or Urban Local Body (ULB) websites and the service quality of its e-services. Separate evaluation frameworks are used to measure the usability of the municipal e-government websites of four Indian cities as well as the service quality of the four most commonly used citizen services, viz. complaint registration, payment of property tax, payment of professional taxes and birth/death registration. For this, a thorough study of existent literature on the subject, comprehensive study of the selected websites and discussions with domain experts have been conducted by the authors. The article also discusses some qualitative issues on the usability of these websites and services that were observed during the evaluation process.

This paper studies whether and how information and communication technology (ICT) changes self-construal and cultural values in a developing country. Ethiopian children were given laptops in the context of an ICT for development scheme. We compared children who used laptops (n = 69) with a control group without laptops (n = 76) and a second control group of children whose laptop had broken down (n = 24). Results confirmed that after 1 year of laptop usage, the children’s self-concept had become more independent and children endorsed individualist values more strongly. Interestingly, the impact of laptop usage on cultural values was mediated by self-construal (moderated mediation). Importantly, modernization did not “crowd out” traditional culture: ICT usage was not associated with a reduction in traditional expressions (interdependent self-construal, collectivist values). Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Their usage undoubtedly makes big influence on education. Pupils’ ability to find the necessary information is highly relevant. Thus, information search literacy is an inseparable component of general education. It is not enough only to find information, it is necessary to use it in the most effective way. Seeking to improve pupils’ information skills, it is necessary to know current position of an analysed question. The object of this research is information search using ICT. The aim of the research is to analyse how comprehensive school upper class students use ICT for information search. It has been ascertained by a research what additional information sources pupils use, where and how they get necessary literature, what information search engines and what electronic information sources they use most frequently. At least a few times per week apart from textbooks respondents use other literature as well (books, dictionaries, handbooks) for learning purposes. They use encyclopaedias very seldom or don’t use them at all. Pupils usually read books and newspapers which they have at home. They also use internet and library service; however, it is not popular to borrow books from friends or buy them. Pupils use internet daily both for leisure and learning. Girls more often than boys use internet for learning and for leisure – they use it equally. Respondents usually search information through Google search engine, less frequently – through Delfi. The other search engines and catalogues mentioned in the questionnaire are used very seldom, especially HotBot, Penki, On.lt and others. Both girls and boys, town and region pupils equally use search engines and catalogues. From electronic information sources respondents most frequently use internet encyclopaedia Wikipedia. Internet books and e magazines are read once a month on average, virtual library is scarcely used. It is absolutely not popular to use such sources as Nerandu.lt, tingiu.lt, Speros.lt. Today, developments in information and communication technology (ICT) have a significant influence on education sustainability. In this study, the factors influencing students’ intentions towards using ICT in education sustainability, as well as their satisfaction from its use, were examined. This study aims to investigate student intentions to use information and communication technology, as well as their satisfaction with such use. Therefore, this study employed an extended model of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the research framework, and adopted quantitative data collection and analysis methods by surveying 502 university students who were chosen through stratified random sampling. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), student responses were sorted into eight study constructs and analyzed to explain their intentions towards technology use and satisfaction. A significant relationship was found between computer self-efficacy (CSE), subjective norms (SN), and perceived enjoyment (PE), which were significant determinants of perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU). PEU, PU, and attitudes towards computer use (ACU) influenced students’ intentions to use (SIU) ICT and students’ satisfaction (SS). The constructs succeeded in explaining usage intentions towards ICT among students and their satisfaction from this usage.

Studi dilakukan di SMA Negeri 6 Padang kelas X MIPA 3. studi ini menggunakan metode studi deskriptif kualitatif. Untuk memperoleh informasi, peneliti menyebarkan angket atau kuisoner secara langsung. Hasil studi ini menyatakan bahwa kebutuhan akan media pembelajaran berbasis ICT sangat diperlukan oleh siswa dengan persentase rata – rata 85,1% namun sarana dan prasarana seperti akses internet terbatas menjadi hambatannya . Maka dari itu dibutuhkan media pembelajaran berbasis ICT yang bisa dipergunakan tanpa akses internet dan bisa disemua device smartphone siswa dan guru. Media pembelajaran berbasis ICT tersebut bisa seperti bahan ajar elektronik, virtual laboratory atau game pembelajaran yang diharapkan mampu meningkatkan semangat belajar dan prestasi siswa. The results of this study state that the need for ICT-based learning media is needed by students with an average percentage of 85.1%, but facilities and infrastructure such as limited internet access are the obstacle. Therefore, ICT-based learning media is needed which can be used without internet access and can be used on all student and teacher smartphone devices. ICT-based learning media can be electronic teaching materials, virtual laboratories, or learning games which are expected to increase student enthusiasm for learning and achievement. This study aims to explore the effect of information and communication technology (ICT) usage on teacher performance at Madrasah Aliyah in Jember Regency. The background of this research is the low quality of teachers in Indonesia, as indicated by the 2015 Teacher Competency Test (UKG) results, with a national average score of only 44.5, far below the standard of 75. A quantitative method with a descriptive approach was used to collect data from 40 teachers as samples, using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis employed descriptive statistical analysis, classical assumption tests, and simple linear regression. The research results show that ICT usage has a significant impact on teacher performance, with a regression coefficient value of 0.809, meaning that every 1% increase in ICT usage improves teacher performance by 80.9%. The T-count value of 4.904 is greater than the T-table value of 2.035, with a significance level of 0.000, indicating a significant influence. Additionally, the R-Square value of 0.422 indicates that 42.2% of the variability in teacher performance can be explained by ICT usage, while the remaining 57.8% is influenced by other factors. The study also identifies various digital tools and platforms used by teachers, such as Moodle, Google Classroom, Kahoot!, and Quizlet, which contribute to improved teaching performance. However, the study also notes challenges in ICT implementation, including accessibility, technological skills, and curriculum integration. These findings provide a comprehensive view of how ICT can be effectively utilized in education and the challenges that need to be addressed to maximize its benefits. This study has practical and theoretical implications, including recommendations for the use of technology in teaching and the addition of literature on ICT utilization in education

Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa HP merupakan tool yang tepat untuk penerapan ICT dibidang pertanian. ICT yang dapat dikembangkan oleh &lt;em&gt;developer&lt;/em&gt; untuk diterapkan langsung kepada petani sebagai &lt;em&gt;user&lt;/em&gt; utamanya hanya berbasis SMS&lt;em&gt; Gateway&lt;/em&gt;. Internal communication is considered to be fundamental process for organization. The information and communication technology (ICT) has been a strong trigger of organizational change in every aspect, as well as in internal communication. This paper investigates ICT tools usage effects on internal communication. Three research hypothesis were set up: (i) employees’ perceived importance of internal communication has a relationship with their ICT usage, (ii) employees’ perceived quality of internal communication has a relationship with their ICT usage, and (iii) ICT tools usage contributes to the perceived impact of IT on informing, motivation, productivity, loyalty, organizational development understanding, reducing rumors within organization of employees, willingness to change and overall satisfaction of employees. In order to test hypothesis, data were collected via an online survey conducted among Croatian public relations experts. Data mining was applied in data analysis: including both, descriptive (distributions) and predictive models (Bayesian networks). Sensitivity analysis of Bayesian networks identified significant factors of successful internal communication. Results showed that Skype usage mostly contributed to the quality of internal communication, whereas social network usage mostly contributed to the perceived importance of internal communication. Bayesian network model identified e-mail usage as a predictor of employees informing and chat usage as predictor for productivity of employees. Organizations’ management should embrace opportunities that new technologies have brought to the field of internal communications and use it as a tool for improvement.

The study highlighted the digital divide as not only a technological divide but also a socio-cultural divide. In the present study, we examined the digital divide of college teachers through ICT access by taking demographic variables like gender, locality, age, teaching experience, academic streams, and type of colleges. We selected approximately 158 college teachers from the Bargarh district of Odisha, covering government, aided, and private colleges, as participants for the study. We collected primary data on ICT access among college teachers to study the digital divide. The digital divide among college teachers was examined with reference to ICT access, physical access, motivational access, skill access, and usage access. In the present study, about 43.67% of teachers had high ICT access, while about 56.33% of teachers had low ICT access. Physical access and usage access of urban college teachers were significantly higher than those of rural teachers. ICT access, physical access, skill access, and usage access among college teachers below the average age were significantly higher than among teachers above the average age. ICT access and skill access of college teachers with below-average teaching experience were significantly higher than the teachers having above-average teaching experience. College teachers in commerce streams had higher physical access to ICT. ICT access among private college teachers was significantly higher as compared to government and aided colleges. From the results, it can be inferred that demographic variables were responsible for the digital divide among college teachers to some extent.

The study examined the role of ICT in agricultural productivity in India. It also analyzed the determinants of agricultural productivity. The causality test indicated the existence of long-run causality running from ICT and agricultural growth (AG) to economic growth. It showed bi-directional causality between agricultural growth and GDP. The long-run causality from ICT to AG was however uni-directional, implying the significance of ICT in agricultural growth. The determinants of agricultural productivity growth revealed increased machinery usage, investment in ICT, gross domestic capital formation and area under cultivation to be significantly contributing to increased productivity growth. The study suggests strengthening the effective implementation of ICT usage in Indian agriculture.

The findings suggest that the most important factor in determining the quality of a romantic relationship is companionship (joint activities of a romantic couple). Romantic couples who generally spent more time in joint activities also spent more time using ICT in maintaining their romantic relationship. The usage of ICT in a romantic relationship itself does not influence the quality of that relationship. The general usage of ICT, however, deteriorates the quality of the romantic relationship. Once we take into account the impact of companionship, personality variables do not provide any unique contributions to romantic relationship quality.

The study aims were, first, to examine the associations between the type and intensity of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and peer and parent relationships. Second, the study explored gender- and age-specific ICT usage and their associations with peer and parent relationships. The participants were 478 Finnish 10- and 13-year-old girls and boys. They reported the frequencies of digital game playing, using a computer for information seeking, communication, and Internet surfing, and evaluated the qualities of peer relationships (popularity, loneliness, and friendship) and communication with mother and father (open and conflicting). As hypothesized, intensive usage of ICT for entertainment (digital playing and Internet surfing) was associated with poor relations with both peers and parents, while intensive usage of ICT for communication (email and chat rooms) was associated with good peer relations, and poor parent relations. The associations were, however, gender-specific. Among girls intensive digital game playing was associated with poor mother—daughter and among boys with poor father—son communication. ICT is discussed as provider of new tools for playing, exploring, and communicating in childhood and adolescence.

The pedagogies of English teaching are rapidly changing due to the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT). According to curriculum 2013, ICT is an essential component that should be integrated into each subject including English. It can be expected that it is essential for the teacher to use ICT in the teaching and learning process in order to help students to achieve a high quality of English subjects. To know the ICT role in the classroom so that this study was conducted to investigate senior high school students’ perceptions toward ICT usage in the EFL classroom. There are two students from the public school participated in Surakarta. This research design was a qualitative method with a case study approach to determine students’ perceptions and their experience in using ICT. Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. The result indicated that the students perceived ICT usage and perceived access to ICT. Although the students use ICT and access it in the classroom, the domination of the level is at substitution and augmentation. These two levels are called enhancement. The findings reveal the usage of ICT in the EFL classroom. The students are reflected only to be able to use a basic function in a limited mobile application with only little change and improvement.

The purpose of this study is to investigate students’ intention to use ICT and use behaviour for learning and research by extending the UTAUT model with Health Issues and satisfaction as mediating variables between ergonomics factors and intention to use ICT relationship. This study employed a survey, which used a questionnaire to elicit data from university students and quantitative approaches to address the study's objective. A total of 1500 questionnaires were sent out, 972 responses were received, and 955 of them were useful. To examine students' ICT usage, the researchers used partial least squares structural equation modelling. The findings suggest that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and health issues significantly influence students’ behavioural intentions to use ICTs. However, ergonomics factors negatively influence health issues. Finally, students ICT use behaviour was strongly influenced by behavioural intentions. Usage of Information and Communication Technology in Micro Enterprises in the Last DecadeThe paper presents the comparison of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage in Slovenian micro enterprises, using data derived from two studies carried out in years 1999 and 2009. Data for the studies were collected via structured interviews with owners or top managers of micro enterprises. We compared hardware and software equipment, business properties, characteristics of the interviewees and their impact on the successful use of ICT. The results show considerable changes in the ICT equipment, but that does not reflect in a better use of software compared to a decade ago. Key factors of successful use of ICT remain the same. The investment in ICT depends on owners' decisions and the most important factors are the owners' formal education and their skills and knowledge in ICT field. It was indicated that in recent years the investment of education in ICT field for both groups, owners and employees, was considerable lowered.

The students were allowed to use ICT devices (smartphone, webpages, Facebook) during a four-week intervention. The results showed that in groups where ICT devices were used, performance (p = 0.04) and task orientation (p = 0.00) significantly improved. Meanwhile, in the group in which ICT devices were not used, the intervention resulted in improved performance (p = 0.00) and by the end of the project, this trend was coupled with increased Ego orientation (p = 0.00) and higher rate of amotivation (p = 0.04). It can be concluded that the use of ICT tools has a positive impact on performance and motivation.

Abstract:
Farmers in Bangladesh are gradually adopting and using ICT-based agricultural applications. This study attempted to identify the factors influencing the use of agro-based mobile applications by farmers in Chandpura village of Barisal district. The study examined farmers' access to ICT in terms of smartphone ownership, internet access, their ICT use behaviour for agriculture, and their knowledge and use of agro-based mobile applications. The research was conducted following the principles of qualitative methods in case studies. For data collection and analysis, in-depth interviews, semi-structured questionnaires, and narrative data analysis were utilised. The results showed that farmers were primarily influenced by personal factors such as need, age, education, and satisfaction. The youth were more receptive to innovations because they were more educated and adaptable. In addition, technological factors, such as access to a device and the internet, digital knowledge, ease of use, and a support network, played a significant role in this regard. While the study helped us understand the significance of ICT technology for the continued development of the agricultural sector, market and weather information were neglected in agro apps for small villages where disease, market, and weather information took precedence. Before implementing any technology, it is crucial to conduct research on the population and their specific needs. The implication is that the study helped us comprehend the significance of ICT technology for the advancement of the agriculture sector, even in small villages, and how implementing an ICT-based "agricultural advisory service" supported and benefited farmers. Abstract:
Background: The adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) is transforming supply chains in the European Union, affecting logistical performance, economic integration and sustainability. This study examines the extent to which ICT adoption affects logistics efficiency in the 27 EU Member States. Methods: Using panel data from the World Bank and UNCTAD (2008–2018), the analysis applies the Arellano–Bond Generalized Method of Moments estimator to assess the impact of ICT indicators, broadband penetration, mobile connectivity and digital skills on logistics performance. GDP per capita and trade openness are included as control variables. Results: The results show that a 1% increase in ICT usage correlates with a 0.12-point increase in the Logistics Performance Index. Higher ICT usage leads to more efficient supply chains, lower costs and higher customer satisfaction. However, there are still differences in digitalization: the ICT usage rate of SMEs is 28% in Bulgaria and 27% in Romania, compared to the EU average of 59%. Conclusions: Bridging the digital divide requires targeted investments in ICT infrastructure, harmonized regulatory frameworks and stronger public–private cooperation to foster regional economic cohesion. This study provides policy recommendations to drive digital transformation, strengthen the resilience of logistics and improve the sustainability of supply chains in the EU.
