Full textSince the 1980s the new technologies of information and communication have completely changed the telecommunications, media and computing sectors' performance. The purpose of this study is to explore how this change was brought about in the United Kingdom in order to ease the transformation of British society into an information society. This study includes a detailed survey of the reforms of the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors iniated by Margaret thatcher's government and by those which followed, as well as an analysis of how these reforms were implemented. The restructuring of the telecommunications and broadcasting markets required new regulation modes which are also given proper attention. The final section of this study assesses on the basis of concrete examples the extent to which British society has actually become a mature information society

Full textThe thesis rests on practical cases in company and on research tasks in industrial economy. We will refer to a vision of the company based on its competences and its knowledge. It registers the company in the action, in continuous processes of transformations and evolutions. The organization of the collective learning, knowledge and competences is a strategic objective for companies. This organization rests, today, mainly on data-processing tools. They transform the production process and the internal and external relations of the companies. They reveal of true chain of "administrative" production. The companies seek within the framework of their management of production, to pass from logic of loads to logic of flow. They transform apparently independent activities into continuous processes. The chain of "administrative" production becomes, therefore, optimized and subjected to the constraints of the industrial engineering of work. We try to propose a relevant framework of analysis to the industrialization of the services which integrates the various components of the organization. It is a question of improving the legibility of the roles and tasks of each one, working out a whole of indicators and measurements of performances and proposing an optimized organization. The company lay out, then, of an evolutionary cartography of its know-how and processes and technologies which support them. It perennializes a continuous improvement of the processes in term of productivity, quality and evolutionarity

Full textThe business environment at the end of the 20th century requires that corporations should efficiently manage their information ressources, to wich purpose new information technologies (nit : informatics and telecommunications) can be a great help. However, it is not the present business environment justifies the importance of information ressources, we may add further reason, of genial and technological character. From a general point of view, it may be said that the importance of information within the firms is but me reflection on such social organizations of something that is changing at a global level, wich is said to be entering a new order that has been termed as postindustrial society, or information society amongst other definitions. Nevertheless, in the information society, changes in organizations caused by the introduction of new information technologies are inevitable as organizations are compelled by external environment to be efficient and competitive in order to survive. On a technological level, the progress and generalization of the so-called new information technologies have also played a major role in conferring information ressources me strategic character they possess within organizations. Once mis has been said, one of the purpose of our work is to present our hypothesis that the role to be played by new information technologies within thes organizations should consist on puttin the power of these technologies at the service of an efficient management of information ressources, thus opening a way to have at our disposal the quality in information as required by any firm deserving to be described as adpatable, quick responding, aware of the threats and opportunities of an increasingly internationalized environment, and willing to cater for any present and potential needs of its customers. Come to this point, we would like to to state that another of the purpose of this paper is to show that traditional organizational structures are dissolving and new forms of organizations are emerging. We have tried to outline the organizational changes that the introduction of new information technologies might involve. The main question pointed in our work is wich we might group under the name of +the relationships between nit and organizational structures ;. At this stage, our main hypothesis is + does the growth of nit contribute to the emergence of

Full textIn the late sixties, with the growing use of computers by organizations, a very broad definition of personal information as “information about an identifiable individual” was elaborated and has been incorporated in data protection laws (“DPLs”). In more recent days, with the Internet and the circulation of new types of information (IP addresses, location information, etc), the efficiency of this definition may be challenged. This thesis aims at proposing a new way of interpreting personal information. Instead of using a literal interpretation, an interpretation which takes into account the purpose behind DPLs will be proposed, in order to ensure that DPLs do what they are supposed to do: address or avoid the risk of harm to individuals triggered by organizations handling their personal information. While the collection or disclosure of information may trigger a more subjective kind of harm (the collection, a feeling of being observed and the disclosure, embarrassment and humiliation), the use of information will trigger a more objective kind of harm (financial, physical, discrimination, etc.). Various criteria useful in order to evaluate this risk of harm will be proposed. The thesis aims at providing a guide that may be used in order to determine whether certain information should qualify as personal information. It will provide for a useful framework under which DPLs remain efficient in light of modern technologies and the Internet

Full textThis research deals with the relationship between the society and new technologies information and communication (NTIC). More precesely it focuses on the relationship between the computer networks and those who use it. In this context, the two following questions must be considered : what futur is therefore an individual's autonomy in this computer age? What are the ideologies behind artificial intelligence system (AI) and particulary by expert system? The author's responds to these questions take the form of two hypotheses : 1. The creator of expert system and more generaly programmers, target and therefore favour the non-autonomus user. 2. The ideologies behind the ntic are the result of mutual determination by emerging techological advances and present day society. In order to prove this hypotheses, he analyses the theory of particulary Simon, Minsky, and Winograd and Flores, all of whom are practicians-thepricians. In short, the author predicts the futur of the expanding and accessible computer area by focusing theoretical and practical. This will enable him to achieve a greater understanding of the underline ideologies of computer development from it's roots up to the present day. This in turn will enable the author to re-evaluate the possibilities of envisaging a more humanist futur for the computer, and to conclude by sketching a computer ethic. This ethic aim to maintain the individual's autonomy by drawning conclusion from expert system and virtual reality technology

Full textThis research proposes to study and present materials that can improve the learning process for people who are hard of hearing and deaf by leveraging the use of new tools such as touch tablets. The question is whether the introduction of these new tools could allow the creation of software tools that more adapted to the cognitive specificities of deaf children. In the current context, our hypothesis is that new computer-base technologies and digital tools (such as touch tablets) would positively influence the learning process for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. As a result, we have created the educational software Digisthésia that has been designed and adapted to the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing. The aim of this tool was to develop and improve 4 important cognitive parameters such as attention, memory, processing speed and problem solving. Our protocol mobilized 80 students from grade schools from and near Lyon: 40 students suffering from different degrees of hearing impairment, with an without cochlear implants (20 subjects used the tablet/20 subjects were part of the control group). As well as 40 students with no hearing impairments (20 subjects who used the educational software Digisthésia and the tablet /20 subjects who were part of the control group). The results indicate that leveraging the new technologies has enhanced the cognitive potential of deaf and hard of hearing students. We have seen progress in the learning of deaf and hard of hearing participants as a result of the use of tablets and our software

Full textThis Phd research aims at making visible the various social and technical representations of the online press sector in Algeria. It thoroughly examines how new information and communication technologies are integrated with Algerian press companies, their components and their intended aims. Made up of three parts, this research tackles theoretical and practical issues to meet our research needs. Our study led us to analyse technologies integration process, using participant observation, comprehensive interviews conducted with representative samples, and the online analysis of information websites. To strengthen our survey tools, we also had recourse to questionnaires. We have followed an adapted research plan that fits the structuring and the development the online press. We have tried through the study to make clear the link between the techniques and usages. We have had to travel from Nice to Algiers and back several times, and paid visits to a number of Algerian papers in order to be able to better identify our research approach. We have also taken advantage from visit to get closer to people working in the media sector

Full textThis work of thesis is situated in the continuity of the searches on the contacts of languages in Senegal, multilingual country. Senegal just like the other French-speaking African countries presents a sociolinguistic space characterized by contacts between national languages and the official language, French giving birth to a form to speak urban called "urban Wolof" or "franwolof".This study concerns the Wolof and the sérère, the national languages of Senegal, in touch with French, within the framework of uses which are made in the New information technologies and of the Communication still (NTIC). Analyses will be led compared to the oral practices and from the messages collected on Facebook and on discussion forums. How the national languages that are the Wolof and the sérère are valued in the linguistic practices and on the Internet ? This main interrogation will be associated with the following various questions of research : what relationships national languages (Wolof and sérère) they do maintain in the oral and with French in the on-line exchanges? / What differences with the oral practices? The Wolof and the sérère are they valued in the linguistic practices and in the electronic exchanges ? How the participants and the Internet users show their identities in their exchanges? How materialize the representations of the speakers with regard to (compared with) the languages which they speak ? What is the place of both national languages at the beginning of the 21th century in a Senegalese society marked by the multilingualism? What is the place of the languages in the definition of the identities of multilingual speakers? / What interests (in the material and symbolic point of view) are made by the use of these languages by the speakers? What roles for their valuation? To bring answers to these questions, the analysis will concern the notions of identity, representations, diglossia, the statutes of these three languages which coexist within the Senegalese territory, on the arrangement, the linguistic politics led to Senegal etc. This work will lean on an analysis of conversations realized with participants wolophones and schooled sérérophones or not and of data collected on Facebook and on discussion forums. This approach will allow to approach the manners the participants of which resort to both national languages in touch with French in the conversations and in the electronic papersKey words: sociolinguistics, multilingualism, New technologies of information and the communication, Codeswitching, Wolof language, serere language, valorization

Full text10 years after digital socio-collaborative platforms have released, it appears their use is still not generalized, not taken for granted ; the integration in professional environments seems difficult, despite the promise of efficiencies, despite the proximity of tools with traditional local office applications, despite the efforts particularly in consulting services which fail to perpetuate uses. This work demonstrates that a new form of visibility induced by sharing, which is the foundation of digital collaboration, can be a brake or a leverage for adoption, and that it should be taken into account in the change process; It also contributes to the knowledge of the collaborative paradigm by proposing a typology of uses based on their intrinsic and social value, an adoption methodology geared towards the local transformation of daily work practices (Get Collaboration Done!™), And an indicator of the “Value” of the collaborative behavior, which is figurated (and calculated) by an index determined according to algorithmic modalities (Collaboration-Index™)

Full textThe study aims to collect the perceptions that the counselors working at career counseling have of their job, of the young people, of their professional practices and of their use of the Internet and the digital tools of management on a daily basis. The aim is to identify the relationship between the use of information technologies and perceived stress at work. Based on models and studies on work stress (perceived stress, sources of stress at work), 46 counselors were met, 35 of whom were interviewed through semi-directive interviews. The research is complemented by a quantitative approach that has helped us to develop a typology of counselors according to their level of perceived stress, to their perceived sources of stress at work, to their expectations for the future, to their professional practices and to their use of the information technologies at work. The results of our research show that the use of the information technologies at the workplace contributes to the evolution of professional practices, to the transformation of the perceptions that counselors have of their job and to a reconstruction of their professional identities. It seems that the use of information technologies at work increases the level of perceived stress of the most conservative counselors and it increases the feel of well-being at work of the most innovative counselors

Full textToday, in Syria, university libraries are facing an actual change in their environment. This change is largely due to the evolution of higher education and the advent of new technologies. In this context, university libraries have to question the relevance of their services. Indeed, information needs have evolved and are no longer the same as before hence libraries need to adapt to evolution by meeting new needs in a context where they are no longer the only source of information. This thesis aims at contributing to reflection on adequacy between supply and service needs. To achieve this goal, a quantitative and a qualitative survey was conducted among students, professors, managers and librarians in Syria to have a clear understanding of the current situation of university libraries and information needs of their publics. We then expanded and diversified the group of services and provided the academics with the basis of their stated and implied needs

Full textThe subject of this thesis is VJing, a term referring to the work performed by the VJ (Video or Visual Jockey) consisting of creating and manipulating several visual sources in real-time through technological mediation and for an audience, in synchronization to music. This study intends to put this practice in perspective by considering it as a specific work made over the image, questioning its poietic paradigm based on synaesthesia as well as the performative context in which it takes place. Borrowing the concept of Remediation from Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin, we study the various processes by which VJing re-appropriates, both in form and content, some constitutive properties of DJing and electronic music, as it also extends directly or indirectly some processes of union of the visual and the aural as it has been experimented in cinema and video. Based on a corpus of about a hundred of VJ works (performance extracts, mixes made for video distribution), our methodological approach consists of conducting several comparative analysis with different works taken from avant-garde cinema, experimental cinema, video art and music videos, in order to progressively defining the specific identity of VJing. By combining theoretical, historical and aesthetic perspectives, we analyze the means by which this practice has established a technological and projective device over time to achieve producing audio-visual objects in real-time based on the constant dialogue between moving pictures and music (or soundtrack) and we try to see how this kind of performance, taking place in the context of new media, mainstreamed remix and "expanded cinema", echoes with the avant-garde tradition and the pictorial, musical as well as cinematic legacy of Visual Music

Nonetheless these last ones feel far from technocratic Europe and Francophonie which is both unknown and reduced to colloquia and cocktail parties. The European Union (EU) has established a European citizenship and a certain feeling of being European coexists with the many identities made by the process of the current globalization. For its part, the International Organization of Francophonie (IOF), which is not a regional integration organization, could not institute such an instrument and the Francophone identity is still at issue. Leaded by solidarity in a prospect of a long-lasting peace, these two international organizations have created tools of rapprochement in the fields of education, culture and media with the useful support of new information and communication technologies

Full textThis thesis addresses the organizational change that parties undertake under the dynamics developed by political communications. It sheds light in the way that modernization of communication technology influences the intra-party functions, by altering the political public space in which parties integrate. Following the most different systems’ design, the comparison between the French and the Greek socialist party develops a reflection on party organizations, trying to understand the causes of their information, the forces that interact in their mutation, the parameters of organizational configuration, and the effects of this transformation on their party function. By creating an original typology of presidentialization on the basis of the source of leadership legitimization, I use the term post-modern, in order to distinguish the contemporary presidentialization sealed by the dynamics of public opinion , from those occured in the past. Institutional and structural factors in Greece and France revealed the existence of a series of parameters that enhance presidentialization. Having then analyzed the transformation of the political public sphere, I demonstrate the complexity of relations, competition and interdependence existing among and between media, communication and political entrepreneurs in the fields of politics and media. I have then identified the nature and degree of professionalization of political communication within the socialist family, through and online survey Heads of Communication in seventeen socialist parties. Among numerous effects stemming from mediatization of politics and professionalization of communication in the macro and micro political level, I consider changes in the links of representation, personalization of politics and the rising cost of politics a the most importantly related to post-modern presidentialization. The rize of public opinion, the dependence of parties from a series of experts and non-partisan agents in a broader-sense, as well as the need to continually adapt communication resources in order to meet the needs of this mediatized political competition, force parties to undertake changes. PASOK and PS confirm the trend of presidentialization, albeit only partially. Although exogenous factors push towards an opening processes and functions of the socialist parties, such as the generalization of a direct relationship between the leader and the citizen, this presidential logic is hampered by other logics – local and parliamentary – as well as dynamics rather than horizontal than vertical. By placing at the heart of my analysis media constraints and conversion to public opinion demands, I have shown that by its nature, this post-modern presidentialization is vulnerable because of external factors related to parties. So while it is supposed to strenghten the leaders and the principal candidates, presidentialization linked to media constraints transfers the leadership legitimization from the intra-party arena towards public opinion. Post-modern presidentialization stengthens already existing deprivation of both parties from their traditional functions and contributes to their ideological and intellectual disinvestment

"Evaluation et rééducation des expressions faciales émotionnelles chez l’enfant avec TSA : le projet JEMImE Serious games to teach social interactions and emotions to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) Children facial expression production : influence of age, gender, emotion subtype, elicitation condition and culture." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019SORUS625.
Full textThe autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties in socials skills, as emotion recognition and production. Several studies focused on emotional facial expressions (EFE) recognition, but few worked on its production, either in typical children or in children with ASD. Nowadays, information and communication technologies are used to work on social skills in ASD but few studies using these technologies focus on EFE production. After a literature review, we found only 4 games regarding EFE production. Our final goal was to create the serious game JEMImE to work on EFE production with children with ASD using an automatic feedback. We first created a dataset of EFE of typical children and children with ASD to train an EFE recognition algorithm and to study their production skills. Several factors modulate them, such as age, type of emotion or culture. We observed that human judges and the algorithm assess the quality of the EFE of children with ASD as poorer than the EFE of typical children. Also, the EFE recognition algorithm needs more features to classify their EFE. We then integrated the algorithm in JEMImE to give the child a visual feedback in real time to correct his/her productions. A pilot study including 23 children with ASD showed that children are able to adapt their productions thanks to the feedback given by the algorithm and illustrated an overall good subjective experience with JEMImE. The beta version of JEMImE shows promising potential and encourages further development of the game in order to offer longer game exposure to children with ASD and so allow a reliable assessment of the effect of this training on their production of EFE

Full textThe quantity and variety of digital devices available in schools is constantly increasing. However, educational uses have not followed this evolution. The limited use of digital may be explained by the difficulty in creating digital activities. We propose to combine concepts from research related to the creation and conduction of educational activities in the classroom, as well as work related to the conduction of digital activities in a more general way. We present the contributions and limitations of these two conceptual frameworks for the management of digital educational activities. We conducted interviews with teachers to understand how they create their digital activities and how they conduct them. When conducting activities in the classroom, teachers mainly encounter technical problems (unstable network, hardware limitations) and have to adapt their plans to deal with these problems. We propose an adaptable architecture to solve the technical problems. Our architecture allows the conduction of digital activities by taking into account the different constraints: the activities work with or without connection, on the different devices present in the classroom, and the architecture adapts to the infrastructures of the schools. This architecture is materialized in Toccata, an orchestration system allowing the creation and implementation of digital activities in the classroom. Toccata implements the design recommendations we identified. Finally, we identified interaction strategies to help teachers in the management of digital devices in the classroom. Through observations of middle school classrooms, we identified two main classes of tasks: content sharing and remote control of devices. Using an elicitation study, we found that control tasks are easier to perform than content sharing tasks, especially using a device worn like a connected watch. We found that the selection of content sharing devices remained particularly complex in terms of interaction. Our results open new possibilities for managing digital devices in the classroom. However, work is still needed on sharing, reusing, and redesigning digital activities

Full textThis thesis deals with organization of work from an interrelational viewpoint; since taylorism, the technical organization of means of production has restricted man's action at work. An interrelational procedure corresponds to what happens in man's reality, and to his action at work; this man is concerned with order and disorderliness, rationality and irrationality; the traditional forms did not take this reality into consideration. The first part is devoted to the conflicting and dynamic nature of social, to its interrelational characteristics, and to the organization of work as an organization of relation ships between men at work. The aim of the second part is to demonstrate the traditional form limits of organization of work, and the necessity for another way for organizing work. Team-work facilitates the creation of new interrelationships, and the setting up of new forms. The third part is devoted to the interrelational process of action and interaction, its functioning, its limits, and the factors favouring this process. It is, in fact, a question of role-playing between actors; this role-playing cannot function in hierarchical structures where the firm imposes its logic and its rules on the actors. With new technology, a systematic media-communication, and new forms of negotiation and parti

The average user, who since the advent of the Internet has merely a short role as consumer of information, is transformed into a "consumer-producer" of information. He is at the heart of the new system of production and dissemination of information. This change whose characteristics cannot be ignored: blogs, personal monitoring, social bookmarking, personalization tools for research, collaboration in social networks etc. and known under the names "Web 2.0", "social web", "collaborative web" would undermine the achievements of companies in terms of information monitoring and Competitive Intelligence (CI); hence the importance of measuring the ins and outs of this renewal informational practices. In addition to questions about the real or supposed changes in information monitoring and Competitive Intelligence in the Age of social web, our research also wanted to measure the degree of recovery skills of web 2.0’s users in SMEs CI‘s systems. With a field survey covering a sample of 70 companies from different regions of the world (France, USA, Great Britain, Morocco, Senegal ...) we noticed that the Web 2.0 is fairly well known by companies regardless of their size, but the recovery of its applications in a process to monitor information is dispersed (using disparate, breach of certain tools potential, lack of information policy incorporating tools 2.0...). This result has convinced us to propose to the SME an approach of establishing a collaborative information monitoring system which has the originality to include the tools of Web 2.0 since the phases of design, planning and implementation. In order to respect the logic of a second generation Information Monitoring System (Lietzelman et al.), the proposed approach is an improvement of existing ones like the AFNOR system or that of Paul Degoul. It is accompanied, for sensitizing SME by a statement of operational techniques of some social media tools for their possible inclusion in a Competitive Intelligence System

It does not refer students; but to help them to design and lead gradually autonomously approach to school project and professional. In this context, it makes sense to develop in all students the skills to manage their information process, or even today, this is not the subject of systematic training in college. With the convergence of hypertext and multimedia formats renewal of educational problems of auto information is required. Why, despite all the institution's efforts, the level of information in guidance students he remains unsatisfactory? After a theoretical modeling phase of the information process to identify the causes of system malfunction, we undertook an action research in order to test the induced solutions of our theoretical results on the know go online. The advantage of this approach is to raise the educational team to the specific difficulties of reading information online, designing educational support an autonomous process of the student and help designers of new devices to take these specificities into account

They are looking at new ways to regain and recapture their culture, language and identity and are in the procès of taking ownership of research processes, concepts and tools. In an attempt to revisit participatory-action research approach and adapt it to aboriginal contexts, we have developed research collaborations with 13 communities from Northern Canada (Cree and Inuit) and Northern Scandinavia (Saami) and organised 20 workshops using collaborative research techniques and tools developed by Chevalier and Buckles from Carleton University. This approach and the tool kit we produced prove to be useful and timely. We were able to address the concerms and challenges that the communities have to face, develop research collaborations between the Cree, the Inuit and the Saami, study community engagement processes in tourism projects and explore new aboriginal research metholodogies. At the same time and during this 3 year Marie Curie research fellowship, we have been exploring the possibilities of developing collaborative research on line via the web 2.0 and ITC. We uploaded 200 aboriginal tourism initiatives represented in the “Aboriginal Destinations” Guidebook, connected their authors in a Content Management System SPIP (www.aboriginal-ecotourism.org), incorporating a variety of integrated technologies: Google Maps™ to provide the geographic placement of the communities; a webbased survey to produce dynamic statistical data to translate the information provided in the narratives/articles into statistical data; discussion forums to add qualitative comments to the quantitative data

Full textToday technical and scientific Information is particularly considered as reference. The current study examines with accuracy the value, role and real impact implied by the TIC whose different uses bring about many changes. The focus is on the various transformation as well as the movement content and treatment of information. Our main concern is the new dimension and organization of the tools and means brought about. In the process, information comes out of the intelligence of human action, which invokes a new formulation of the "métis grecque". Information is altered under a double pressure and becomes temporality (past, present and future) and the complexity of the informational system. This creates a new form of knowledge which is connected to several modalities of interaction and retroactions representing some stokes of the underlying social mediation process. We aimed at analyzing the use of intranet in eight organizations as the informational application of a technical network. The cases under study reveal that Intranet is a technical device. It can be used as a concept of organization if we take into account a number of parameters. Our approach relies on an ethnomethodological observation through a theoretical and practical orientation implying distance and commitment. The overall method is based on a anthropological perspective of communication

Full textTechnological progress and the growing aging population are two major trends of the last decade. The ubiquitous proliferation of mobile communication devices during this period has significantly altered people’s communication habits. The constantly changing mobile phones, their increasing features, the numerous icon designs, the variety of user interfaces and its complex navigation require nowadays not only more time for adaptation and learning but also a significant cognitive effort. Information technology and communication (ICT) have become essential tools of modern life. For seniors, this constantly mutating universe with its new digital devices makes information accessible to many thus contributing to a generational divide. The lack of reference and support and the physical or cognitive impairment that some people often develop while aging makes the use of such products very difficult. Both, a physically and cognitively accessible system becomes a real necessity in our modern society since it could help seniors live more autonomously and« connected ». This research aims to identify the challenges related to mobile phone use and reveal specific problems that older people encounter. The study focuses on the population that is little familiar with these devices especially since communication technologies seem aimed at the younger generations and professionnels. Through qualitative research seniors’ usage pattern will be studied allowing us not only to establish different user profiles with respect to ICT but also to better understand the challenges related to the perception, comprehension and manipulation of mobile phone user interfaces.

Full textThe new information and communication technologies (NICT) currently play an important role in companies, regardless of their size or field of activity; in addition they contribute positively to the economy. However, their use has led to NICT-related criminality, which threatens the security and integrity of the companies’ computer systems. NICT-related criminality has grown exponentially; its increase is hard to assess, and especially hard to control using the existing legislative provisions. Hence, legal adaptations appear unavoidable. Several First World countries have decided to set up, through different means, an adequate legal framework to guarantee the security of companies’ computer systems. Our study will focus precisely on the mechanisms that have been set by two different legal systems. France and Canada, which had to take into account a new reality–new to at least some extent–have decided to amend their respective penal and criminal codes by adding provisions that penalize further infringements. In this work, we will analyze the crimes that undermine the security of the companies’ computer systems in light of the legal tools in place. We will asess how effectively they face today’s computer world and will determine whether or not the law will meet or not the needs of this type of technology.

Full textThe aim of this dissertation is, firstly, to verify the link between the predisposition of individuals towards new information and communication technologies (NICTs) and their level of psychological well-being. It then seeks to verify whether this link varies when individuals belong to different generations. Finally, it assesses whether gender and type of employment influence the link between the relationship to NICTs and the level of psychological well-being. The study was carried out among 1034 panelists of the Observer. The results of this study show that there is a link between specific dimensions of individuals' relationship to NICTs and the level of psychological well-being. Moreover, this relation is sometimes moderate depending on the generation to which the individuals belong. Furthermore, our results show no connection between gender or sector of activity and the level of psychological well-being. However, the higher an individual's level of education, the higher his or her level of psychological well-being. Part-time employment is also associated with a decrease in the level of psychological well-being among individuals belonging to certain generations.

Full textThis paper presents an exploratory empirical study of mobile videoconferencing according to user’s context in order to suggest guidelines for the improvement of the user interface in mobile video communication devices. Through rich exchange of information, mobile video communication can provide a better sense of presence than other means of communication. Yet the current mobile interfaces lack flexibility to be creative and have more meaningful exchanges in a videoconference. We conducted observations with sixteen participants in three activities where their conversations, reactions and behaviours were observed. Two focus groups were used to identify habits formed from regular use. Results suggest an important difference between using the front-facing or back-facing camera and a clear need for tools that provide more control over the video exchange. From these results, the study proposes several design guidelines for mobile video communication interfaces, respecting the construction of the user’s mobile context.
St-Germain, Blais Karine. "La dialectique socialisation/individualisation à l’œuvre dans les pratiques culturelles des jeunes de la génération numérique." Thèse, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/9925.
Full textThis dissertation seeks to conceptualize the socialization/individualization dialectic at work in the formation and transmission of cultural tastes and practices among young adults. The analysis of ten interviews, conducted with young Montrealers aged 18 to 24, reveals that socialization operating within the family and school remains active without being coercive, because it proves favourable to the aptitude of young people to define themselves autonomously and to develop their own tastes in cultural practices. Peers also play a role in this regard, a role amplified by digital means. Relationships between peers generate tensions between group conformity and willingness to be authentic and to act upon one’s behalf. New technologies of information and communication, furthermore, appear as a source of socialization and individualization by providing access to "networks" that inflect the tastes and preferences shaping the practice of culture, while simultaneously allowing young adults the freedom to develop themselves.

Full textIn the era of the knowledge society characterized by the importance of constant innovation, various dimensions of social life are going through notable renewals. The New Technologies of Information and Communication (NTIC) are offering a large panel of new possibilities that affects the traditional mode of operating of various institutions. In this context, Universities become fundamental actor, by contributing to the high education of the population through their activities of teaching and research. It seems that the traditional mission of universities is going through major changes. Lots of new possibilities permit by the NTIC affects the traditional way of teaching and doing research and we also talk about new kind of unprecedented relations between universities, state and the industry. We offer to explore the impact of all these changes on the physical development of universities through a look at a case study of the campus of Université de Montréal and the business school of HEC Montreal. Our work discuss about the influence of these changes in the physical organization of the university, more specifically on the architecture of the buildings. Through a look at the project of construction of a new campus situated at Outremont, we have attended to study actual tendencies and concerns about university buildings. We then attended to analyse the impacts of these developments on the organisation of universities buildings through a study of the architectural features of the new school of HEC Montréal.

Full textThis master’s thesis focuses on the scope of the Canadian constitutional protection of the right to privacy, in view of the wide scale governmental electronic surveillance of electronic communications metadata, conducted for national security purposes. It is argued, following a detailed presentation of the nature and extent of certain specific governmental electronic surveillance activities, that the « Biographical core » analytical framework, governing the scope of the protection granted to informational privacy in Canadian constitutional law, is most likely applicable to electronic communications metadata. This position is directly supported by the relevant constitutional interpretation rules and cases. This is particularly true in light of the fact that metadata are, inherently, potentially significantly revealing, especially considering the capacities of an array of electronic surveillance activities, as well as the non-legal implications they entail for privacy.

The university degree in Physical Education at a distance is a innovative and pioneering project in the world, with UnB as a precursor of the institutions. This dissertation study is aimed to (re)discover this university education in the context of system of Universidade Aberta do Brasil. To this end, we developed a qualitative study, the phenomenological type, whose main problem was to understand how teachers of the Physical Education course from the Universidade Aberta do Brasil, coordinated by the University of Brasilia, have migrated from the face to face modality to the distance one? Using the theoretical basis of the Mediatic Transposition (Garonce, 2009) we collect the data using techniques of observation and document analysis as well as a questionnaire. As sources, we use the PPP course, lesson plans, and virtual classes. To identify different theoretical categories and techniques of the didactic action in a virtual environment, we separate them into two analytical shafts. After the analysis, we found that the teachers do not change their teaching actions in the virtual environment compared to traditional classes, except for some details. Thus we conclude that this formation is marked by an invariance of didactic action coupled with the teacher’s resistance to technology. However, we realize that it is about a possible, thus functional training, but one that still is incomplete.
