Saqib, Ehsan. "Anonymous Mobile Consumer Analysis Platform." Thesis, KTH, Geoinformatik, 2016. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-189191.

Abstract:
Advances in mobile communication, computing and positioning technologies allow the real-time acquisition of continuously changing locations of moving objects, e.g., users carrying location-aware mobile devices. The geocontextual analysis of these locations of users can reveal valuable mobile consumer patterns and enable a number of promising Business Intelligence (BI) services and desirable intelligent Location-Based Services (LBSes). However, as some exact user locations can be extremely sensitive while others can be used to link the users to his or her real-world identity, location traces of users must be anonymized. To facilitate these promising BI services and desirable intelligent LBS in a privacy preserving manner, the present paper proposes an Anonymous Mobile Consumer Analysis Platform (AMCAP) that based on the geocontextual analysis of anonymized location traces, in four phases, derives mobile consumer characteristics of its users in terms of Anomymous Mobile Consumer Profiles (AMCPs) and information about the dynamically changing spatio-temporal distribution of the users that is recorded in a spatio- temporal data warehouse of Anonymous Mobile Consumer Types (AMCTs). In the first phase, based on a number of spatio-temporal criteria the platform probabilistically associates a user’s generalized location, that is represented by an anonymization region with activity types that activity centers in the anonymization region can facilitate. In the second phase, based on the activity type inferred in phase one, the platform, in an online and incremental fashion, summarizes an Anonymous Mobile Consumer Profile (AMCP) for each of the users. In the third phase, the platform periodically groups the users based on their AMCPs into a number Anonymous Mobile Consumer Types (AMCTs). Finally, in the fourth phase, in order to capture the dynamically changing spatio-temporal distribution of the consumers and their characteristics, the platform, in an online and incremental fashion, records the frequency and duration of the visits of different AMCTs to different spatio-temporal regions. The AMCAP is empirically evaluated on the simulated movements of a subset of the population of Copenhagen, Denmark. Experiments regarding the accuracy of the AMCP construction reveal that the proposed activity type inference from anomymized regions is effective and can predict the actual activity of the users with an accuracy of 0.75 and a κ- value of 0.73. AMCPs are clustered into 7 AMCTs. The quality of AMCTs is evaluated by comparing it with Actual Consumer Types (ACTs) which are extracted from Actual Consumer Profiles (ACPs). In both the AMCPs and ACPs, the optimal number of clusters is 7. Meaning thereby that although AMCPs are blurred, they do not loose their inherent property of being clustered into the same of number of types as ACPs. The Adjusted Rand Index (ARI) (a measurement for similarity between two grouping of objects) between the AMCTs and ACTs is 0.3 which is significantly higher than the random assignment where ARI value is -0.0000247. Computational performance evaluations show that a relational DBMS-based prototype implementation of the AMCAP on a single machine can process 50,000 anonymization rectangles in 20 seconds. Based on the assumption that during any given 5-minute interval no more than 10% of the users submit an anonymization region, it is extrapolated that the prototype is capable to perform in real-time the geocontextual analysis (i.e., phases 1, 2, and 4) of anonymized location traces of 7 million users. Finally, to illustrate the utility of the information that is derived by the AMCAP a number of derived BI services are discussed.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to analyze a project to design and implement a new FM Radio application for Symbian OS. The project process and relevant events are discussed when they have an impact on the design work. The goal of the project was to offer an improved user experience with features like favorite stations, song history, RT+ support, and automatic region selection. In order to complete the application within the project schedule, the existing radio modules were to be reused as much as possible. The application was required to be developed using the Qt application framework and to have no dependencies on the old UI framework from the Symbian OS. Platform-independence, testability, and simplicity were other key requirements for the new radio application. A final comprehensive goal was to stick to established design patterns and to follow the design principles and good practices defined earlier in the bachelor’s thesis by the same author. An added challenge was provided by the necessity to develop the application on top of a new UI framework that was still in development itself. Constant changes to the framework put a strain on the already tight project schedule. The discussion focuses on the design of the engine module that was required to house most of the application logic. The engine is disconnected from the Symbian OS by the use of a wrapper module, whose purpose is to hide the platform details. Due to its relevance to the engine, the design of the wrapper is discussed in detail. The application UI and the reused radio modules are discussed briefly and only to the extent that is relevant for the engine design. The resulting design fulfills its requirements and the implemented application performs as designed. All the required features are supported, and the existing radio modules are reused. The lack of dependency on the old UI framework is witnessed by running the application in a system that does not contain the framework. The possibility to run the application on a Windows workstation also affirms that the platform-independence requirement was achieved. The design and implementation adhere to the principles outlined in the bachelor’s thesis and provide a practical use for them. The principles are found to be valid and important for the successful completion of a complex software project. It is discovered that the goal of designing a simple system from complicated beginnings is difficult to achieve and requires many iterations. Gradual refinements to the architecture and implementation are necessary to finally arrive at the optimal design. Constant refactoring is found to be a key element in the successful completion of a software project
Jatkuvat muutokset kirjastossa rasittivat jo valmiiksi tiukkaa projektiaikataulua. Tämän työn pääpaino on moottorimoduulissa, jonka tuli sisältää suurin osa sovelluksen logiikasta. Moottori on eriytetty Symbian-käyttöjärjestelmästä adapterimoduulilla, jonka tarkoitus on piilottaa ohjelmistoalustan yksityiskohdat. Adapterin suunnitelma kuvataan yksityiskohtaisesti.

Abstract:
Translational Biomedical Informatics (TBMI) is an emerging discipline expanding beyond traditional bioinformatics, with a focus on developing computational technologies for real-world biomedical practice. The goal of my Ph.D. research is to address a few key challenges in TBI, including: (1) the high quality and reproducibility required by medical applications when processing high throughput data, (2) the need for knowledge management solutions that allow molecular data to be handled and evaluated by researchers, regulators, and doctors collectively, (3) the need for near real-time, efficient access to decision-oriented visualizations of integrated data and data processing results, and (4) the need for an integrated solution that can evolve as medical consensus evolves, without requiring retraining, overhaul or replacement. This dissertation resulted in the development and adoption of concrete web-based application deliverables in regular use by bioinformaticians, clinicians, biologists and nanotechnologists. These include: the Chip Artifact Correction (caCORRECT) web site and grid services, the ArrayWiki community microarray repository, and the SimpleVisGrid visualization grid services (including eGOMiner, nanoDRIVE, PathwayVis and SphingoVisGrid).

Deep learning has been extensively used in many areas because of its proven benefit. However, developing deep learning is challenging. The master thesis aims to investigate suitable information visualization for the output of an automated deep learning model platform. The thesis has been carried with Bitynamics AB. The methodologies used are: 1) user research; 2) prototyping; 3) user evaluation. The design requirements are gathered from user research and study literature. The prototype offered the visualization, including a list of models, model comparison, model training, testing, and prediction result. Ten people have evaluated the prototype by using usability testing, subjective expert interview, and questionnaires. From the user evaluation, it indicates the prototype has addressed the user problems in deep learning. The result shows the prototype has good usability based on the SUS and has a completion rate of 100%. The participants’ feedback has been categorized into five labels: 1) defining and designing the necessary functionalities; 2) the importance of customization; 3) designing the information visualization; 4) user interaction with data; and 5) trustworthiness of the recommended actions for parameter tuning. These labels should be considered when designing the visual analytics of an automated deep learning output platform.
Abstract:
This paper explores advantages and challenges of specifying how IoT data is presented to an end user in AR using HTML5. Our conclusion is that HTML5 is a way of defi- ning data where competence is easy to come by and cross platform usability is good. The primary advantage is the capability of deciding how something is rendered and have it look the same way on any number of different platforms. The challenges are that cross platform compatibility is not perfect. Even platforms such as a native Android application, that has support for rendering HTML, suffered from very poor performance compared to a PC. Platforms not supporting HTML5 natively, in this case Unity and Vuforia, caused further challenges and required a separate headless browser application to render the web page. Our conclusion is that you can use HTML5 to define the appearance of data visualization across multiple platforms, even though they may have no native support for rendering the DOM. It worked without issues within a browser running on a PC, came with performance issues inside an Android webview and required additional middleware and limited interaction in Unity.

Efforts to share resources in collaborative pursuits are hindered by differing data representations, redundant applications, and software incompatibilities. Members of a collaborative effort often span different computational environments and the heterogeneity of contexts disrupts software interoperability. Sharing computational resources has become the focus of many research efforts. Efforts in the 1980s led to the Component Object Model (COM) [Williams, 1998a, 1998b, 1990] and the Common Object Request Broker (CORBA) architectures [Offall et al 1996; OMG, 2003]. In the 1990s both technologies were extended for network support. In recent years, Ian Foster, has phrased the distributed computing problem in terms of sharing computational resources. The grid problem is, "coordinated resource sharing and problem solving in dynamic, multi-institutional virtual organizations", "to support collaborative problem solving in industry, science, and engineering in a data rich environment". [Foster et al, 2001] This work presents a new resource sharing platform architecture for information products that leverages the lessons learned from physical product platforms, the concepts of web services, and grid computing. The platform developed in this thesis integrates the contributions of these three areas into a system that is shown to be more efficient and effective at producing software products.

Abstract:
Despite recent technological innovations, transportation sector is still producing significant impacts on the economy and environment. In fact, the success in reducing transportation emissions has been lower than desirable due to several factors such as the urban sprawl and several barriers to the market penetration of cleaner technologies. Therefore, the “Europe 2020” strategy has emphasised the relevance of improving the efficiency in the transportation networks through the better use of the existing infrastructures. In this context, the main objective of this thesis is increasing the understanding of how proper route choices can contribute to reduce emissions output over different spatial and temporal contexts. Simultaneously, it is intended to evaluate the potential of different traffic management strategies in terms of traffic performance and energy/environmental efficiency. The integration of empirical and analytical methods to assess the impact of different traffic optimization strategies on CO2 emissions and local pollutants constitutes one the main contributions of this work. This thesis has been divided in two main parts. The first is predominantly empirical, using field data as the main source of information. Using GPS equipped vehicles, empirical data for approximately 13200 km of road coverage have been collected to estimate energy and emissions impacts of route choice in three different scenarios: a medium-sized urban area (Aveiro), a metropolitan area (Hampton Roads, VA) and an intercity corridor (Oporto-suburban area). The second part, predominantly analytical, is essentially based on the output of traffic simulators and optimization models. The analytical component was based on the capability of microscopic traffic models to generate detailed emissions information and to generate link-based performance functions. Then, different traffic management strategies were tested to evaluate road networks in terms of traffic performance and emissions. Both outcomes of the empirical and analytical approaches have demonstrated that fuel use and emissions impacts can also be significantly reduced through appropriate route choices and advanced traffic management systems. The empirical assessment of route choice impacts has shown that both during off peak and peak periods, the selection of an appropriate route can lead to significant emissions reduction. Depending on the location, potential emissions savings of CO2 up to 25% and local pollutants up to 60% were found. The analytical approach has demonstrated that it is possible to significantly reduce system environmental costs (30%) by modifying traffic flow distribution along a corridor with 4 alternative routes. However, despite the positive results in terms of the potential for emissions reduction based on appropriate route choices, a number of important trade-offs that need to be considered in future implementations of eco-routing systems. Among these trade-offs it is worth noting that: i) different pollutants may lead to different ecorouting strategies, ii) the minimization of pollutants emissions often involves choosing urban routes (densely populated), iii) for higher penetration levels of eco-routing devices considering local pollutants, system environmental impacts can be higher than if drivers were guided under the traditional devices focused on travel time. With this research, it has been demonstrated that road traffic management strategies focused on minimizing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption can be compatible with the minimization of system travel time. On the other hand the minimization of local pollutants may lead to considerable increases in travel time. However, given the trend rate of reduction in the emissions factors of local pollutants, it is expected that such trade-offs would tend to be minimized in medium term. Thus, the developed methodology has great potential for further real life application, either through the use of nomadic devices, infrastructures to vehicle communication or different advanced traffic management systems.

Business Administration/Management Information Systems
Ph.D.
In the past decade, a fundamental research topic in the information systems (IS) discipline has been to examine the value of online platforms on businesses, society, and consumers, notably in the form of improved efficiency in information sharing, consumer engagement, and increased sales. However, the risks rooted in online platforms may cannibalize the value created, which have received limited attention in the literature and practice. In my dissertation, I attempt to fill this gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive analysis of the risks of online platforms from the angle of these three main entities in the ecosystem with three separate yet related essays. The first essay focuses on the risks for businesses that leverage social media platforms, and assesses how their posting on social media fan pages affects consumers’ decision to purchase and unfollow from the firms. The second essay focuses on the risks of fake news on social media and how social media platforms may use identity verification to reduce online anonymity and combat this increasingly critical social problem. The third essay focuses on estimating the risks of using monetary incentives to motivate consumers to write online product reviews, and examines how such strategy may affect product sales. Our studies have theoretical and practical implications for designing effective online platform information systems.

Abstract:

This paper addresses the question of how to make use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in companies in the process industry were there is a pervasive need of process standardization. ERP systems have the potential to contribute with standardization and integration of organizational data through an of-the-shelf solution. In practice results of ERP systems implementation has varied greatly. Considering their implications on business processes and the complexity of the systems this should not come as a surprise. ERP systems do not only imply standardization of data but also standardization of key processes in the company. The consequences on the individual organization are therefore hard to predict. Making strategic choices between different degrees of in-house developed systems, integration of solutions from many different suppliers or to only rely on the ERP systems consultants and their proposed implementation of solutions, can be a troublesome balance act. This paper describes a case study of the Swedish diary company Norrmejerier and the implementation of the ERP system IFS analyzed from a perspective of complex system and standardization. The use of IFS at Norrmejerier can be characterized as a loosely coupled integration with the ERP system as a central integration facilitator. This solution allowed the company to make use of standardization benefits, filling the need of special functionality and at the same time limiting the negative unexpected consequences such as decreased activity support and increased complexity. The key contributions of this paper are that it shows how ERP´s can contribute to standardization and integration efforts in IT environments with peculiar demands on functionality. Secondly it demonstrates how negative side effects related to implementation of ERP systems can be managed and limited.

Abstract:
Abstract The Swedish railway has during many years received low customer satisfaction scores. Reasons for this are reliability, service and information concerns. The focus of this master thesis lies on the railway platform. The platform is an important part to the factors above as its information and facilities, which constitute a part of the service before the trip, could contribute in causing delays and reliability issues. This study investigates the behaviour of passengers on railway platforms and the effect that information, seats and entrances along the platform has on that behaviour. The goal is to find advantages and disadvantages and propose improvements in a Swedish setting. Platforms and trains that have been studied are in Stockholm, Sweden and Tokyo, Japan. Platform distributions and individual behaviour on the platforms are recorded with three different and relatively easy methods. Results of the Swedish study show aggregate trends where passengers tend to cluster around entrances and seats. Many Swedish passengers do not believe themselves to have enough information to know where their car will stop. These passengers do mostly not know that information exist and on average stand much further away from their closest door, when the train arrives, compared to passengers that believe themselves to know where their car will stop along the platform. The results of the Japanese study show that almost all passengers stand close to their door. From the findings in not only this, but also other studies, four aggregate properties in order to get better railway platforms are finally presented. These properties are reliability, clarity and availability of information and good location of seats and other facilities. Suggestions for tangible improvements for the Swedish railway platforms are finally given. Among these improvements are new information screens and standardized information and stopping position of trains.

Doshi, Siddharth. "Designing a multi-modal traveler information platform for urban transportation." Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/37167.

Full text
Abstract:
Urban transportation networks are inefficient due to sub-optimal use by travelers. One approach to counter the increase in urban transportation demand is to provide better information to travelers, which would allow them to make better use of the network. Existing traveler information systems do this to a certain extent, but are limited by the data available and the scope of their implementation. These systems are vertically integrated and closed so that using any external elements for analysis, user interfacing etc. is difficult. The effects of such traveler information systems are reviewed via a comparative analysis of case studies available in the literature. It is found that information availability has a definite positive effect, but the social and environmental benefits are difficult to quantify. It is also seen that combining data by integrating systems can lead to additional uses for the same data and result on better quality of service and information. In this thesis, a regional platform for multi-modal traveler information is proposed that would support the development of traveler information systems. The architecture incorporates a central processing and storage module, which acts as an information clearinghouse and supports receiving, managing and sending data to and from multiple sources and interfaces. This setup allows sharing of data for analysis or application development, but with access control. The components are loosely coupled to minimize inter-dependencies. Due to this, the source, analysis, user interface and storage components can be developed independently of each other. To better develop the requirements and understand the challenges of the proposed concept, a limited implementation of the system is designed for the midtown Atlanta region, incorporating multiple data sources and user interfaces. The individual elements of the system are described in detail as is the testing and evaluation of the system.

Gathering and analyzing suspicious activity is a core element in the prevention of crime and terrorism. The Information Sharing Environment (ISE) and the Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) program is an attempt to address this issue, but it creates human and systemic barriers to information accessthe same barriers that existed prior to 9/11. The SAR program, through its process-related policies, limits critical information from entering the shared space for analysis. These limitations are two-fold Information must be specifically prepared for submission by a human being who recognizes that a potential nexus to terrorism might exist and decides to act upon this recognition; and, once submitted, each data element must be individually vetted and approved by more human analysts. Removing the dual limitations of lack of complete operating picture (based upon the limited information made available for vetting) and dependence on human frailty will provide a more effective platform for the identification and mitigation of possible pre-terrorist incident indicators. This thesis provides an overview of the SAR program and compares and contrasts it with more mature platforms that better meet their objectives, and provides recommendations on how the ISE/ SAR enterprise can be improved.

Abstract:
Today, the web is constantly growing, expanding global information space and more and more data is being processed and sourced online. The amount of electronically accessible and available online information is overwhelming. Increasingly, recommendation systems, which engage in some form of automated personalisation, are hugely prevalent on the web and have been extensively studied in the research literature. Several issues still remain unsolved including high sparsity situation and cold starts (how to recommend content to users who have had little or no prior interaction with the system). Recent work has demonstrated a potential solution in the form of cross-domain user modeling. This thesis will explore the design, implementation and testing of a cross-domain approach using social media data to model rich and effective user preferences and provide empirical evidence of the effectiveness of the approach based on direct real-world user feedback, deconstructing a cross-system news recommendation service where user models are generated via social media data. This will be accomplished by identifying the availability of a source domain from which to draw resources for recommendations and the availability of user profiles that capture a wide range of user interests from different domains. This thesis also demonstrates the viability of generating user models from social media data and evidences that the automated cross-domain approach can be superior to explicit filtering using self-declared preferences and can be further augmented when placing the user with the ability to maintain control over such models. The reasons for these results are qualitatively examined in order to understand why such effects occur, indicating that different models are capturing widely different areas within a user's preference space.

There is a great deal of medical malpractices these days, and the tension of the Doctor-Patient Relationship is one of the causes. This is the problem which needs to be urgently solved right now. From the Patient-centered education for the doctors, to the promotion of Health Education Information, both should be enhanced. By doing these, the public can not only know their own situations more, but have a reciprocal communication with the doctors. People don’t realize the importance of health until they get sick, so it is the best opportunity to promote the Health Education Information in the hospital. Due to patients’ stronger intension and the ample time of waiting for medical treatment, the purpose of educating people about the Health Education will be effectively achieved. In the process of looking for the reference documents, I found out that there is no research for further reform about the effective promotion of Health Education Information. the purpose of educating people about the Health Education will be effectively achieved Under this circumstance, this research is to solve the tense of Doctor-Patient Relationship, and to examine the effective practice of promoting the Health Education Information when patients are waiting for medical treatment. By comparing different kinds of Touch Technologies, we can find out a more appropriate Touch Screen for public use, and furthermore, to build the H1N1 information platform by using the flash software technology. That way, the flaw in the promotion of the Health Education Information can be improved, and the public can choose the information they need as well. This research is to certify that the platform not only attracts the masses, but promotes the information in a more effective way.

Full text
Abstract:
Platform ecosystems are a growing trend in various industries and many companies that rely on this organizational structure have seen unprecedented growth rates in recent years. Compared to traditional service providers, platforms do not offer products or services directly to their customers, but almost exclusively through complementors who develop and deliver complementary content. Platforms therefore create value by enabling and coordinating interactions between the demand and the supply side. As these platforms are two-sided markets, they are characterized by distinct cross-side network effects, meaning that each side of the market derives externalities from the participation of the respective other group. Crowdfunding platforms rely on this concept and facilitate transactions between individuals who seek funding for a specific project or venture and prospective investors. Crowdfunding platforms are, however, special as the transactions made via the platforms are particularly risky for end-users because of a high level of information asymmetry existing between the market sides. Though a certain level of information asymmetry exists between the distinct market sides in every two-sided market, a number of factors amplify this problem in the crowdfunding context. For instance, there is usually little to no publicly available information such as customer reviews to evaluate the investments ex-ante. The creators of crowdfunding campaigns are therefore able to overstate quality or withhold information as they control the flow of information towards potential investors. Furthermore, many of the projects that are published on crowdfunding platforms are still in their infancy, making it difficult to accurately predict project outcomes. Compared to other types of two-sided markets, the issue of information asymmetry is also more difficult to resolve in crowdfunding because mechanisms such as reputation systems that are frequently applied in other contexts to mitigate this issue are less relevant on crowdfunding platforms. The actual utility of crowdfunding projects is therefore difficult to ascertain at the time the investment decision has to be made and dynamics of crowdfunding are thus different from those in other platform settings. Many open questions still remain with respect to the optimal market design of crowdfunding platforms in order to mitigate information asymmetries. Against this backdrop, four research studies have been conducted to investigate how the behaviors and actions of the distinct groups of market participants (i.e., platform provider, project creators, backers) influence the decision-making of potential backers on crowdfunding platforms. The first study is concerned with the effects actions taken by platform providers can have for the decision-making of backers. More specifically, it is examined how relaxing the input control for crowdfunding projects on Kickstarter affected the decision-making of backers. The second and third study are concerned with the role of social buzz and contribution behavior by previous backers. While the second study is focused on the dynamic interplay of social buzz, prior-contribution behavior, and the respective effects on backer decision-making, the third study describes the repercussions of non-genuine social media likes for project creators. The final study is focused on the influence project creators can have on backers by signaling certain personality traits through their project description and video. Overall, this thesis highlights that, as a result of the high level of information asymmetry on crowdfunding platforms, prospective backers seek alternative information and signals to use for decision support in the face of uncertainty. Platform providers and project creators may use the results to better understand how and why certain actions or behaviors of market participants on crowdfunding platforms affect the decision-making of prospective backers. The findings may therefore help platform providers to optimize the market design of crowdfunding platforms in order to avoid information-related market failure in the long term.

A Service-oriented architecture is a software architecture that uses loosely coupled software services to support the requirements of business processes and software users. Resources on a network in an SOA environment are made available as independent services. This thesis proposes an information platform that provides a web site system which is derived from SOA concept. This web site follows a real-world condition so that people can access it. For example, users in an organization can login into this web site system and use these web services provided from this site. In this way, information and data can be exchanged and shared rapidly. This platform applies ADO.NET to connect other database. Besides, in security issues, login/ registry are used in this web site. And GMPP service is also included to alert users and administrator. And then, two cryptography mechanism AES and RSA are mentioned for encryption and decryption. IP filter module can reject IP which is not in security IP list. Additionally, SSL and VPN are applied here for security issue when transaction. For data tracking, an idea “Event-recorder” is used here, in this way, administrator can track and check whether the data was changed or not. Access Control allows users of different departments can access different data with their own access right. Finally, some data mining algorithm, k-means, such as kNN, PCA, SVM, are provided here for decision making when users need.

In recent years, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology seems to have been more widely accepted. However, there are still some weaknesses of RFID technology, such as low reading rate, data security and the privacy issue, deployment of antennas, problems in handling large amounts of data generated by the tags, reader collision, and failed in the presence of metal and liquid based products ... etc. This thesis developed a RFID Information Platform to handle mass data and try to solve the reader collision problem which may result in low reading rate, moreover, to deal with the data security problems. In the aspect of the data transmission security, AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm is employed for the encryption of tag. The transmission protocol of this platform is designed by imitating Secure Socket Layer (SSL) handshake protocol. RSA (Ronald Rivet, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adleman) and AES encryption/decryption algorithms are applied simultaneously for considerations of security and efficiency. The security mechanisms are proposed for the supply chain management. Subsequently, an anti-collision policy called Event-driven reader scheduling (EDRS) is proposed in this thesis. A comparison of EDRS and existing collision avoidance policies (TDMA, Colorwave) was made based on the simulation results. There is a nice outcome of EDRS which is according to the concerned area (workspace) to avoid reader collision. The security issue and reader collision problem of RFID system are taken into account. Through the integration of web-services, the developed information platform is more flexible and secure. This information platform supports the adapters for 2.45GHz/915MHz/13.56MHz/530KHz readers. In addition, 915MHz reader supports active/passive tags which follow the standards of ISO and EPC. Collected fault data can be diagnosed through the web-service we constructed. SVM (Support Vector Machine) is used for fault diagnosis. Besides, General message passing platform provides various ways of message passing such as Web-Site, SMS, e-mail, videoconference, GPRS and XML…etc. Diagnosing server can send active warning notification to engineers or related staffs for troubleshooting.

Crops are subject to numerous diseases and pests that may cause significant economic damage. It is essential to forecast the potential occurrence of the major problems in these crops. The goal of this dissertation is the development of a web platform for registration and issuance of warnings of disease’s risk. The generation of these warnings is performed using mathematical models to predict possible occurrence of plant diseases and/or the collection of information in the field by farmers and/or technical experts by means of mobile devices. This information should be geo-referenced and can be obtained with mobile devices which could be documented with photos, videos, text, data from satellite, weather data, web information or even with information from sensors on the ground. This thesis describes and shows a fully working platform that is able to collect data and compute alerts from the several sources of information available, in a scalable way.

Smartphone has become an essential part of people’s daily lives for the advantages of convenience and portability it possesses, and it has also contributed to a commonplace to the public for searching and saving information online. However, the limited size of cell phone screens leads to a time-consuming situation while users are browsing the web pages on campus since there is too much unnecessary information being contained in the web. In this paper, we applied a situational internet exploring function to design an application which is basically adaptive to the campus tour. Moreover, through the application we collaborated useful functions in common use and tried deleting some unnecessary information; this makes a better convenience in reading the needed information. This application is introduced based on the collaborated information of departments, campus, and characteristics of the school as well. We classified the departments and showed their characteristics. Some examples can be given like campus information including the spots in NKFUST and outside restaurants, by entering Google Map. It can provide the precise navigation. Also, we collaborated and developed corpus of the extensions by SQLite database for a quicker search. The result showed that we can search the relevant information of the departments more conveniently, and the collaborated information provides faculties and students a better chance to be more familiar with the outside region of the school. Furthermore, we can find an extension more quickly by using the searching function which formed in SQLite. With all the things mentioned above, we established a handy application that can be utilized more conveniently in the future.

With the investment of developers and the industry, the Internet of Things has gradually developed applications. It plays a very important role in life management, environmental monitoring, car networking, home security and smart cities. The Internet of Things uses various things through the Internet. Linked to make it easier for people to access information and use more convenient services, and the information security of the Internet of Things is also closely followed. If the IoT system is attacked by information security, the attacker can not only peep into the user's habits. , location, personal data and images, and even the transmission of fake data may make the system make a wrong decision. Therefore, an information security detection platform for the Internet of Things service system will be developed. The detection platform is presented by the web interface, providing easy operation for non- information related background users and easy to interpret. The detection content is divided into three parts. First, the first part is on the Internet of Things service system. The IoT service system enables service scanning, which allows users to know whether the service system has additional information to open the communication and cause potential risks. The collected data can also provide the second part of analyzing SSL (Transport Layer Security Agreement Transport Layer) Security) credentials. The purpose of analyzing the SSL certificate is to check whether the IoT service system provides SSL encryption for verification. SSL is also called secure communication protocol. The network packet transmission can be encrypted through SSL, so that the transmitted content cannot be obtained even if it is intercepted. SSL encryption, the user's personal information, account number, password and credit card information will be easily intercepted during the transmission process. The third part is to do a weak point scan on the IoT service system, and provide information to the user service system about potential risks and repair methods.

With the rapid development of information technology organizations have become highly dependent on computers. However, research shows that computer resources often remain neglected or unused. But when using special applications that consume large amounts of computer resources, enterprises need to spend a great deal of money to buy high-end servers in order to meet demand. Therefore, how to make use of internal computer resources to decrease unnecessary expenditure is one of the main challenges that enterprises face today. To deal with the above problem, information departments of enterprises are forced to find corresponding solutions. But even if related program modules are available, it is tedious and complicated work for information personnel to install, configure, update, and maintain the application services. Thus, how to simplify the above work so that information personnel can concentrate on higher value-added jobs is a huge challenge. In addition, for ordinary computer users in an enterprise, more dynamic and complicated responsibilities mean that they must apply programs to complete various tasks and solve various problems; thus users must continually switch between different program interfaces to perform different functions. While most enterprises have established their own enterprise information portal (EIP), they still cannot solve the above problems due to the limitations of the client-server architecture. So, how to provide ordinary computer users in an organization with a consistent work interface and a highly autonomous work environment is a challenging issue. In this paper we propose a general architecture to meet the challenges faced by organizations, information departments, and ordinary users and build a prototype platform to provide different functions to achieve our goal. The prototype platform allows computer peers in enterprises acquire the abilities of self-organization, self-deployment, self-configuration, self-updating, self-uninstallation, self-healing, and self-optimization. Organizations can make use of the platform’s functions to support application services or user interface-related activities. In other words, through the platform system, information departments can easily manage their specific application services; especially those application that make good use of computer resources. Also organizations can reduce expenditure on unnecessary computer equipment due to the functions of the application. For ordinary users, this research not only provides them with consistent user interfaces but also gives them more control over access to information; that is, it provides a user-centered working environment.

As technology and information technology advance, businesses of all sizes in Taiwan are moving towards becoming e-business one after one. The demand for portable mobile devices grows significantly, speeding up the interpersonal and intergroup communications. As the result, social networks have bridged communications across borders, giving people instant access to real-time information. This project explores how an internal communication platform of a company can utilize technologies to provide accurate and highly efficient communications with information effect. It also discusses how information technology system contributes to efficient flow of information and improves interpersonal relationships within a corporation and which of the two benefits the most from it. Then this project compares the influence of different information systems on the effectiveness of communications within an organization and what information technology can better improve such effectiveness. How an information platform can promote information flow and interpersonal relationships and lead to better communications is also an issue explored. Information flow within a business is often a complicated and difficult process since it needs to be real-time and cross-organization. With sheets, forms and emails being the only communication tools in a company, it can easily cause confusion and lead to wrong decision-making. Although email has made communication within an organization fast and easy, the prevalence of junk mail and spam has made it difficult for users to read their emails to obtain crucial information. Not to mention the traditional e-mail system can no longer provide further filtering functions. In the web2.0 era, many platforms have gone online with interactive and sharing features, emphasizing its two way interactions instead of one-way communication. Users can share information and contribute to collective wisdom, which will eventually give rise to an innovative service model and value chain. Web 2.0 can be seen as a new attitude and perspective towards user experience, resources sharing, open platforms, lightweight user interface and business model. This study has also discovered that the new style internal communication integration platform is more suitable for businesses since they require tighter information security and their information needs to be managed carefully in order to prevent leaking of company classified information and trade secrets. The platform also improves the conventional information process as well as the work environment and the workflow within the organization. It can adapt to the needs of individual member’s work activities, keeps tracks of meetings and work progresses to further boost work efficiency within the organization. Therefore this study draws the conclusion that the new internal communication integration platform is suitable for businesses while open social media better bridges interpersonal communications; email helps users communicate over matters while an internal communication platform facilities communication within an organization.

Geotagging, in which digital photos are labelled with the location where they were taken, becomes more popular today. Users can browse the photos on digital map and make the web photo sharing and management even more conveniently. However, lacking the function of authentication and the way to deal with the situation that information within the EXIF area being falsified, the content of the photo might be inconsistent to the location it has been displayed on map. In this paper, a framework using image steganography and GPS information authentication is proposed for the problem described. By means of embedding GPS information as well as the authentication information into the image, the consistency of photo content and location can be assured. Furthermore, this scheme can be applied to authenticate that a user has ever visited a certain place.

This thesis presents a study of constructing an embedded system platform, and uses TMS320DSC25 as the example underlying hardware to implement a multimedia information appliance system platform. TMS320DSC25 is a Texas Instrument's solution for digital still camera which includes an ARM7TDMI CPU and a C5409 digital signal processor(DSP) organized as a master-slave multiprocessor architecture—the ARM7TDMI CPU is used to control the peripherals and the operation of C5409, while the C5409 is used to deal with multimedia signal data. We port µC/OS-II, a real-time kernel, as the system kernel of the software architecture, and employ the semaphore to realize the management of system resources. We develop device drivers to control I/O devices including Key switch, OSD, AIC23, UART. We also port X-modem protocol to transfer data and port lwIP(light weight Internet Protocol) network library to provide the point-to-point ICMP and the UDP/IP data transfer function. This platform has the capabilities of task management, schedule management, time management, and memory management. In order to demonstrate and test the functionality of task communication, resource management, and I/O peripherals of this system platform, we design and implement an MP3 music player with basic GUI. This MP3 application can play songs with the lyric synchronously displayed, which is similar to the popular KTV equipment in the market of consumer electronic products.
