Abstract:
Summary Objectives: To examine the architectural differences and similarities of a Japanese and German hospital information system (HIS) in a case study. This cross-cultural comparison, which focuses on structural quality characteristics, offers the chance to get new insights into different HIS architectures, which possibly cannot be obtained by inner-country comparisons. Methods: A reference model for the domain layer of hospital information systems containing the typical enterprise functions of a hospital provides the basis of comparison for the two different hospital information systems. 3LGM2 models, which describe the two HISs and which are based on that reference model, are used to assess several structural quality criteria. Four of these criteria are introduced in detail. Results: The two examined HISs are different in terms of the four structural quality criteria examined. Whereas the centralized architecture of the hospital information system at Chiba University Hospital causes only few functional redundancies and leads to a low implementation of communication standards, the hospital information system at the University Hospital of Leipzig, having a decentralized architecture, exhibits more functional redundancies and a higher use of communication standards. Conclusions: Using a model-based comparison, it was possible to detect remarkable differences between the observed hospital information systems of completely different cultural areas. However, the usability of 3LGM2 models for comparisons has to be improved in order to apply key figures and to assess or benchmark the structural quality of health information systems architectures more thoroughly.

Abstract:
Background: Nowadays, service-oriented architectures and cloud-based infrastructures are widely used in manufacturing industries and IT organizations. These architectures and infrastructures are based on shared system resources. In some organizations, system resources like a printer, photocopy machines, and scanners are also shared among the members of the organization. The purpose of the proposed work is to model various types of shared system resources, shared system resources based architecture/infrastructure and analyze the model to identify the possible security risk associated with shared system resources and shared system resources based architecture/infrastructure. Design Approach: To model shared system resources and shared system resources based architecture/Infrastructure, Petri net and its variations are used. For security analysis of the Petri net based model of the shared system resource, Petri net algebra based concepts are applied. Results: The present paper successfully demonstrates that the proposed Petri net based modeling approach can be used for quantitative and qualitative security analysis of shared system resources and shared system resources based architecture/infrastructure. For quantitative analysis of security risk associated with shared system resources, information theoretic concepts are used. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, case studies are also incorporated in the present paper. The proposed approach can take various security risk factors like timing analysis attack, information leakage due to confidentiality policy violation and power analysis attack into the consideration while analyzing the security of shared system resources in the industrial environment.

Full text
Abstract:
Recent advancements in generative artificial intelligence have boosted significant interest in conversational agents. The visual dialog task, a synthesis of visual question-answering and dialog systems, requires agents capable of both seeing and chatting in natural language interactions. These agents must effectively understand cross-modal contextual information and generate coherent, human-like responses to a sequence of questions about a given visual scene. Despite progress, previous approaches often required complex architectures and substantial resources. This paper introduces a generative dialog agent that effectively addresses these challenges while maintaining a relatively simple architecture, dataset, and resource requirements. The proposed model employs an encoder-decoder architecture, incorporating ViLBERT for cross-modal information grounding and GPT-2 for autoregressive answer generation. This is the first visual dialog agent solely reliant on an autoregressive decoder for text generation. Evaluated on the VisDial dataset, the model achieves promising results, with scores of 64.05, 62.67, 70.17, and 15.37 on normalized discounted cumulative gain (NDCG), rank@5, rank@10, and the mean, respectively. These outcomes underscore the effectiveness of this approach, particularly considering its efficiency in terms of dataset size, architecture complexity, and generation process. The code and dataset are available at https://github.com/GhadaElshamy/MS-GPT-visdial.git , complete with usage instructions to facilitate replication of these experiments.

Abstract:
The concept of Information Systems urbanization has been proposed since the late 1990’s in order to help organizations building agile information systems. Nevertheless, despite the advantages of this concept, it remains too descriptive and presents many weaknesses. In particular, there is a lack of useful architecture models dedicated to defining software solutions compliant with information systems urbanization principles and rules. Moreover, well-known software architecture models do not provide sufficient resources to address the requirements and constraints of urbanized information systems. In this paper, we draw on the “information city” framework to propose a model of software architecture - called the 5+1 Software Architecture Model - which is compliant with information systems urbanization principles and helps organizations building urbanized software solutions. This framework improves the well-established software architecture models and allows the integration of new architectural paradigms. Furthermore, the proposed model contributes to the implementation of information systems urbanization in several ways. On the one hand, this model devotes a specific layer to applications integration and software reuse. On the other hand, it contributes to the information system agility and scalability due to its conformity to the separation of concerns principle.

Abstract The civil aircraft pneumatic system provides bleed air supply for multiple users of the aircraft, involving information exchange among multiple systems, and its system architecture is relatively complex. This paper adopts the SysML modeling language and proposes a model-based modeling method for the complex architecture of civil aircraft pneumatic systems. It transforms traditional document and experience-based pneumatic system design work into architecture design work based on pneumatic models and utilizes the correlation and traceability relationships of models to achieve state-machine modeling of pneumatic system architecture. Through simulation verification, the modeling method of pneumatic system architecture based on SysML modeling language can be efficiently applied to the design of pneumatic system architecture and can be extended to the design work of other system architectures.

This paper describes OCP (Open Context Platform), a middleware which provides support for management of contextual information and merging of information from different sources. The host system is thus endowed with proactive capacities which, in turn, provide a certain environmental intelligence [8]. The approach consists of a modelling of contextual information which is based on Semantic Web derived technologies and a description of the structured merging in the form of decision rules. The latter serve to classify situations of interest and subsequently to trigger off the relevant actions at each moment. Elsewhere, the underlying architecture in OCP is designed so that it can function both by centralizing all the contextual information from a central server and by distributing it among consumers and producers of this type of information.

Solution of problems for improvement of methods and technologies of software configuration remains important and requires the development of the existing information technology to provide customization of software in terms of changing the end user requirements. Changing requirements stipulate the use of iterative software lifecycle. As part of the life cycle, it is necessary use additional methods to simplify of software architecture and obtaining software with a minimum of functional complexity. This is necessary in order to avoid increasing the time and labor costs for design, development and support of software. To address the disadvantages of existing methods it is proposed to use a method of assessing the functional complexity of the software information system, which is based on the existing graph multilevel model of software architecture. The method is based on FP-metrics calculation for each architectural element and a corresponding level of the graph model. Metrics values allow choosing software modules with a minimum of functional complexity in configuring the software architecture to satisfy the functional requirements of the end user.

AbstractEfficient usage of heterogeneous computing architectures requires distribution of the workload on available processing elements. Traditionally, the mapping is based on information acquired from application profiling and utilized in architecture exploration. To reduce the amount of manual work required, statistical application modeling and architecture modeling can be combined with exploration heuristics. While the application modeling side of the problem has been studied extensively, architecture modeling has received less attention. Linear System Level Architecture (LSLA) is a Model of Architecture that aims at separating the architectural concerns from algorithmic ones when predicting performance. This work builds on the LSLA model and introduces non-linear semantics, specifically to support GPU performance and power modeling, by modeling also the degree of parallelism. The model is evaluated with three signal processing applications with various workload distributions on a desktop GPU and mobile GPU. The measured average fidelity of the new model is 93% for performance, and 84% for power, which can fit design space exploration purposes.

Abstract:
The development of the System Architecture of the IT-infrastructure focused on the use of modern Data Centers is considered. At the same time, it is envisaged to create components that describe: general approaches to building a system architecture; IT-services – information technologies that solve the task of providing IT-services; logical model of IT-infrastructure. Formulated logic of IT-infrastructure construction: IT-infrastructure architectures define a set of services. IT-services are provided to three groups of clients. IT-services and clients are connected by 5 implementation scenarios. The integration of IT-services is determined by 5 architectures. As IT-services, we understand information technologies aimed at maintaining the following elements in a technically good state: network devices, computing equipment, data storage devices, automatic software deployment services, network services, perimeter protection services, directory services, file and print services, data management services, business application services, IT-management services, archiving and recovery services, certificate management services, integration services. Architectures define the fundamental principles of building IT-services and their relationship. Also, requirements for the creation of IT-services are formed on the basis of the architecture. One of the most important architectures is architecture of IT-infrastructure management. The architecture of the management system ensures the necessary level of IT-services of the Data Center due to the organization of three components – personnel, processes, technologies. The tasks of the architecture are: use of processes and information technologies to identify and minimize failures of IT-services; ensuring a high degree of integration of information technologies; ensuring response to changes in system parameters and performance of service functions in real time. As an example, the management function of the IT-service “network administration” (monitoring and control of configuration management services, coordination of changes, remote management and debugging) is considered. The algorithmic synthesis of programs and devices network management is considered, which consists in the construction of a functional scheme of control devices in two stages – abstract and structural synthesis, and all the steps of its solution and subsequent hardware synthesis are determined.

Abstract:
The existence of traditional markets is increasingly being eroded by the presence of online market models that already utilize various e-commerce platforms. However, the TOGAF Framework provides a ray of hope. Even though the existence of traditional markets is unlikely to disappear, if traders in traditional markets do not try to adapt to using e-commerce, it will have an impact on losing customers, losing turnover, and will even affect the acceleration of their business. Architectural design for system development in traditional market activities can provide an important picture of how to advance traditional market industries that will not be out of competition with modern markets. TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) provides a detailed method of how patterns build, manage, and implement enterprise architecture and information systems called the Architecture Development Method. Analysis using the TOGAF Framework provides an overview of how to plan, design, develop and implement information system architectures for traditional markets. The results of this design analysis are an information technology architectural design which is the basis for traditional market managers, especially in Indonesia, in advancing the business processes of traders in the market so that they are not unable to compete with modern markets but with gap analysis constraints that must really be considered with regard to internet infrastructure problems in the market, sellers who are not fully able to use technology due to age and not all forms of goods on the market can be sold through e-commerce platforms. This gap analysis will make e-commerce implementation slow to implement.

Smart grid software interconnects multiple Engineering disciplines (power systems, communication, software and hardware technology, instrumentation, big data, etc.). The software architecture is an evolving concept in smart grid systems, in which system architecture development is a challenging process. The architecture has to realize the complex legacy power grid systems and cope with current Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The distributed generation in a smart grid environment expects the software architecture to be distributed and to enable local control. Smart grid architecture should also be modular, flexible, and adaptable to technology upgrades. In this paper, the authors have made a comprehensive review of architectures for smart grids. An in depth analysis of layered and agent-based architectures based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) conceptual model is presented. Also presented is a set of smart grid Reference Architectures dealing with cross domain technology.

Abstract:
The need for data sharing across heterogeneous data sources is growing. Peer Database Management Systems (PDBMSs) offer one data sharing approach, which favors a direct and dynamic node-to-node model of communication with no centralized control. Moreover, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) using Web service technologies allow users to leverage existing assets towards the goal of building new architectures and integrating existing systems that can be componentized. We propose an Open Service Architecture for PDBMSs (OSAP). This architecture offers the main services of a PDBMS as Web services that are invoked via the communication network using a set of well-defined interfaces. This approach provides power and flexibility in terms of development and usage of the system. We have implemented this architecture within the Hyperion PDBMS infrastructure. We provide an analysis of the implementation of the OSAP architecture in terms of its characteristics. We also conduct a performance comparison with both the original Hyperion architecture, and a much simpler architecture that hides all the internal functionalities offered by a PDBMS as private processes that can be used by other peers only through one single web service which acts as peer manager.

Abstract:
Targeted activity in all spheres of modern society is carried out within the framework of organ-izational systems of various types and for various purposes using situational management methods. Cybernetic organizational systems are represented as ordered sets of interacting com-ponents (artifacts, system components), united by the performance of a specified function based on information exchange. The ontological approach to the design of any class of complex sys-tems makes it possible to carry out a clear and hierarchical decomposition of the design pro-cesses of any system of a given purpose into certain design actions, many of which can be per-formed concurrently and each of which – in the context of a local component system. The mod-el of the subject area of knowledge is determined by the architectural model of the cybernetic organizational system and its context of interaction with the environment. The architecture of the cybernetic organizational system ensures the implementation of the process of situational management as a composition of motivations, knowledge, opportunities, resources, and limita-tions. The idea of a target cybernetic organizational system is presented in the form of a list of needs and models on the basis of the analysis of which requirements are formalized in accord-ance with needs. The construction of the architecture of the cybernetic organizational system is specified by the formalized system requirements from the knowledge base of the cybernetic or-ganizational system and confirmed by the results of the analysis based on system models and test operational tasks. Relationships between artifacts form an architectural model of the system which combines activity regulations, activity structure, activity directions, technological stand-ards, structures, and solutions. The proposed ontological model of knowledge of the architecture of the cybernetic organizational system combines technological, organizational and project concepts.

Sharing information would not only raise awareness and increase knowledge, but could also save lives. Occasionally, governments need to provide critical information to citizens accurately and in a timely manner. There are different information dissemination channels such as: Television, Radio, SMS and Social Media. However, these channels have several limitations. A dissemination approach is needed that intelligently target specific citizens with critical information that concern them from trusted sources on time. In this research, we propose a dissemination model that addresses these issues and utilizes the needed features. Comparing several dissemination architectures, the proposed model is an enhanced architecture designed based on publish/subscribe. The study proposed a novel idea of information dissemination by integrating many trusted sources in a unified source that can be accessed by the stakeholders at any time. Abstract:
Within the framework of the presented article, the relevance and necessity of solving the problem of visualizing the architecture of information systems based on microservices is substantiated. This task is especially significant both for the process of developing new systems and for optimizing the operation of existing ones. To provide comprehensive and balanced up-to-date information about the structure and interaction of microservices, an approach is required that is focused on automatically collecting and processing information about the relationships between microservices and their internal structure for the purpose of subsequent visualization of architectural diagrams. The authors found that specialized software trace logs provide sufficient information for visualizing the architecture. In their article, the authors took a closer look at tracing issues in the context of OpenTelemetry, an open-source project designed specifically for collecting telemetry data from software and then analyzing it. The authors proposed the C4 model as a means for visualizing architecture. The C4 model is a relatively new approach to modeling software systems, which involves the development and representation of context, containers, components, code and their relationships. The main task that the authors set for themselves is to automate the process of creating C4 model diagrams based on data received from OpenTelemetry. This approach will significantly simplify the process of understanding the structure and dynamics of interaction between microservices within the system. The key result of the research is the development of algorithms for collecting and converting trace data to create C4 diagrams, as well as the creation of appropriate software that implements these algorithms.

Abstract:
In the past decade, the rush to technology has created several flaws in terms of managing computers, applications, and middleware and information systems. Therefore, organizations struggle to understand how these elements behave. Even today, as Enterprise Architectures grow in significance and are acknowledged as advantageous artifacts to help manage change, their benefit to the organization has yet to be fully explored. In this paper, the authors focus on the challenge of real-time information systems evaluation, using the enterprise architecture as a boundary object and a base for communication. The solution proposed is comprised of five major steps: establishing a strong conceptual base on the evaluation of information systems, defining a high level language for this activity, extending an architecture creation pipeline, creating a framework that automates it, and the framework’s implementation. The conceptual framework proposed avoids imprecise definitions of quality and quality attributes, was materialized in a model-eval-display loop framework, and was implemented using Model Driven Software Development practices and tools. Finally, a prototype is applied to a real-world scenario to verify the conceptual solution in practice.

This article describes the analysis of the quality of microservice architectures, which are one of the main approaches to the creation and maintenance of modern information systems capable of quickly respond to changes in business demands. The implementation of continuous delivery of software components for dynamic business processes of information systems can be carried out by various sets of microservices, the optimal choice of which is a complex multi-alternative task. The paper presents a review of existing approaches to solving the problem, which showed that the development of models for assessing the quality of microservices of information systems requires further elaboration in terms of accounting for uncertainty in the initial data and modes of operation. The authors have proposed an approach to solving the problem of analyzing the quality of a microservice architecture which is implemented on the basis of a fuzzy production network model. The model allows for comprehensive accounting of various parameters (qualitative and quantitative). The article shows the implementation process of the fuzzy production network that was developed to analyze the functional quality of the microservice architecture for processing customer orders using fuzzy modeling software. The results of the analysis will allow managers and system architects to make an informed choice of the microservice architecture of the information system, as well as use it in their reports when arguing the need for scaling the system and increasing the availability of microservices.

Abstract:
Model-driven development is recognized as one of the most promising approaches in software engineering. Recent research in the area highlights the importance of using an explicit architectural model in this context. Since service-oriented architectures have also demonstrated to be adequate to overcome current software needs, the idea of using the model-driven approach to generate service-oriented architectural models has successfully flourished in the last years. However, the emphasis on the Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) paradigm has led to the design of architectures lacking some desirable features. Knowing the benefits provided by architectural styles, we have found that their use can help us to overcome those needs. Our goal is to obtain a service-oriented model which satisfies the requirements of the concrete architecture and complies with the constraints and vocabulary defined for a specific architectural style. To achieve this, here, we propose to use a weaving model which merges the concrete architectural model with a model of the architectural style of choice.

Smart Farming is a development that emphasizes on the use of modern technologies in the cyber-physical field management cycle. Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing have accelerated the digital transformation of the conventional agricultural practices promising increased production rate and product quality. The adoption of smart farming though is hampered because of the lack of models providing guidance to practitioners regarding the necessary components that constitute IoT-based monitoring systems. To guide the process of designing and implementing Smart farming monitoring systems, in this paper we propose a generic reference architecture model, taking also into consideration a very important non-functional requirement, the energy consumption restriction. Moreover, we present and discuss the technologies that incorporate the seven layers of the architecture model that are the Sensor Layer, the Link Layer, the Encapsulation Layer, the Middleware Layer, the Configuration Layer, the Management Layer and the Application Layer. Furthermore, the proposed Reference Architecture model is exemplified in a real-world application for surveying Saffron agriculture in Kozani, Greece.

The model outlines key subsystems, including food production, storage, distribution, and consumption monitoring. The implementation roadmap provides a phased strategy for adopting advanced technologies and improving data management. The proposed system facilitates real-time monitoring, early warning mechanisms, and strategic decision-making, ensuring compliance with legal frameworks. Conclusions: An integrated food security information system is vital for addressing food security challenges in Indonesia. The proposed architecture, grounded in the EAP methodology, supports efficient planning, monitoring, and evaluation while enhancing compliance with national policies. This model can serve as a reference for other regions aiming to implement sustainable food security systems through digital transformation.
