Abstract:
The article explores compression in English scientific and technical texts, defining it as the process of reducing linguistic elements without sacrificing essential information. Compression is a key feature of this genre, where high accuracy, conciseness, and informational density are paramount. Various linguistic levels of compression are analyzed: phonetic, morphological, lexical, and syntactic. At the phonetic level, compression is achieved through reduction, assimilation, dissimilation, elision, and accommodation, enhancing linguistic economy and speeding up information transmission. Morph

Nowadays translators employ various translation strategies in order to produce an adequate translation and further establish international communication. This paper deals with one translation strategy called compression which involves leaving out the target text elements present in the source text to retain the content of the words rather than preserve the structural adequacy of the text format. The degree of compression is constantly increasing in contemporary translations, due to an intensive lifestyle, the necessity to convey informational content as quickly as possible arises. We present a scalable information-optimal compressive imager optimized for the target classification task, discriminating between two target classes. Compressive projections are optimized using the Cauchy-Schwarz Mutual Information (CSMI) metric, which provides an upper-bound to the probability of error of target classification. The optimized measurements provide significant performance improvement relative to random and PCA secant projections. We validate the simulation performance of information-optimal compressive measurements with experimental data.
