Full textThe purpose of this study has been to visualize perceptions of what learning is taking place in the after-school centre. This study attempts to answer the following questions: What do the students learn at the after-school centre according to the teachers, and in what way do they work with the students learning? What do the students learn at the after-school centre according to themselves, and what type of activities do they speak about? What do the students learn at the after-school centre according to the guardians? What do the students learn at the after-school centre according to the principals, and in what way do they think the teachers are working with the students learning? I have chosen to examine all this from a sociocultural perspective, using a qualitative method. In total, three teachers , ten students, five guardians and three principals have been interviewed. The results have been analyzed using the available pedagogical knowledge within the field and key concepts inherent in the sociocultural perspective. Some of the most important results show that in the centre, education comes in the form of social and linguistic learning as well as in the natural sciences. The results also shows that learning in regard to the development of the students identity and gender is being overshadowed. One conclusion that can been drawn is that both the teachers and the principals are well aware of the learning capabilities of the after-school center. Another is that the exact type of learning that happens can be hard to pinpoint for both the students and their guardians.

Full textBackground: Learning is important for companies’ existence in today’s society and many studies discuss the importance of life long learning and learning organizations. An increased understanding for how the individual learn at the work place is importance to study to gain an accepting for how learning occurs, both formal and informal.
Purpose: The purpose with this study is to describe the process of learning at the work place from an individual perspective, with focus on how formal and informal learning occur and interact. The purpose is also to confirm, contradict or develop existing theories.
Realization: The study is based on eight interviews with consultants at two major banks in Sweden.
Results: The study show that formal and informal learning exist at the work place. The formal learning take place throws a license, courses and educations. The informal learning happen throws interaction between colleagues. The study also shows that it exist connections between formal and informal learning. They occur at the same time, during different phases, depend on the situation and circumstances outside the organization lead to a need of both formal and informal learning.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to investigate the nurse and intended psychotherapists perspective on learning in the field between formal learning and informal learning in practice. For this purpose, the nurses that educate further to preschool teachers and intended psychotherapists is examined. The four research questions are as follows; (1) How does the nurses and the intended psychotherapists valuate and experience the relation between formal education and informal learning in practice? (2) How does the nurses and the prospective psychotherapists valuate and experience that their learning changes over time? (3) How does the nurses and the prospective psychotherapists valuate their learning in relation to different persons around them? What differences and common attribute is there between a nurse and a prospective psychotherapist? The empirical collection of the study is based on a survey and the selection covers in total 11 nurses from Stockholm university and 43 intended psychotherapists at Stockholm university and Uppsala university. The study is analyzed through Ellströms theory about cognitive- and contextual perspective on learning, adaptions- and development-minded learning and Bertells theory about learning at the first- and secondhand arena. The study process shows that there are less research made earlier about the investigated professions and their learning during further education, therefore the study is an important contribution to the field of knowledge. The data that the analyzes is founded on in the study is gathered through a web survey. Measures are executed through the software PSPP. It is clear that from the result of the study that the two professions where similar in its positions that treated the relations between formal education and informal learning in practice. It is also possible to interpret that the attitude of the respondents indicates that they are approaching or found themselves in the development-minded learning, which have been addressed in the change of learning over time. Furthermore the result of the study indicates that the respondents learning in relation to others varieties depending on profession and relation. The biggest difference between professions in the study shows when they are to assess in what extent they discuss new knowledge they have learned with their manager. Common features to be seen is that they willingly discuss the new knowledge they learned with their classmates. The study leads to conclusions in respect to semiformal relations. Where the classmates role in the respondents learning is questioned and shown in a another dimension. This with the help of a relative new theoretically point of view.

Full textThe purpose of this master thesis is to gain knowledge and understanding concerning what exchange students learn during their exchange studies, in which way it has been useful in their work afterwards, and to analyze which kind of learning that has been most relevant in relation to exchange studies and working life. The theoretical framework included theories of lifelong and life wide learning (Jackson, 2011; Jarvis, 2007) which focuses on learning in different environments and ages and Jarvis (2004, 2007) view on formal, non-formal and informal learning. Sociocultural learning according to Säljö (2000) is also presented with focus on social and cultural interaction. The design of the study was qualitative and consisted of ten semi-structed interviews with former exchange students that are now working. Thematic analyze was used to present results for the two first questions and the theory mentioned above was used to analyze the last question regarding which sort of learning. The findings showed that students learn a lot by going abroad in terms of personal development. Related to language and academic learning outcome results variated between the participants. The former exchange students described confidence, meeting and communicating with colleagues as useful learning outcomes from studying abroad that they can now use in working life. The usage of language and academic knowledge in work were mixed. The results also showed that informal learning has been more relevant than formal learning in relation to what exchange students have learnt and found useful in their working life.

Full textThe purpose of this study has been to develop an understanding of teachers’ intentions regarding field trips within their science education. Through nine qualitative interviews with teachers who work or have been working in Malmö, following research questions have been studied: Why do grade 4-6 teachers choose to go on field trips and How do grade 4-6 teachers incorporate field trips within their science education. One of the theo-ries that have been central throughout this study is Formal and Informal Learning where formal learning is linked to classroom teaching and informal learning represents field trips. The second theory that have been used is Field Trip Pedagogy which relates to how field trips are incorporated in the classroom. When planning a field trip that is con-nected to the classroom it’s essential with logistic and administrative preparations, but also the teaching that is applied to before, during and after the field trip. From a phe-nomenographic approach, the results show that teachers’ intentions with field trips in their science education pertains to create a varied education experience in the classroom to favor the students learning. Teachers take their students on field trips to give them the opportunity to have first-hand experiences, to show them that what is talked about in the classroom exists for real, something that is supported in the literature review. In the result there are prominent factors that affect the implementation of field trips where the school’s location, budget and students’ safety are central. Field trips and the teach-ing that takes place before, during and after the visit is aligned with the curriculum. Ac-cording to the result the teaching that occurs after the field trip is prioritized.

Full textIn the past decade, HR work has changed as a result of the HR transformation, which entailed the introduction of a new role, HR partner, in order to make the work more efficient and value-creating. The administrative general role would become more strategic and part of the organization's leadership, through the introduction of self-service services and the redistribution of tasks. Although, a change regarding the tasks made the role “HR partner” become unclear. Our study aims to investigate the role of HR partners to clarify what the role entails. Furthermore, the study intends to bring knowledge about how one can develop in the role by examining learning within the role. The study was conducted using a qualitative method with seven semi-structured interviews of HR partners at various companies in Stockholm and Uppsala. Conclusions of our study has been drawn from our theoretical framework: episteme, techne and fronesis, adaptive and developmental learning, and workplace learning. The study's questions have been answered with the help of a thematic analysis, which gave the result that the role is complex but that the role by all interviewees was explained to be a business-related support function with both operational and strategic tasks. However, we have seen tendencies that the role in some companies has not evolved into the strategic advisory function that was intended. The reason for this, we believe, may be due to lack of time and an experience of limited scope for action, which in turn may be due to clearly defined tasks. All respondents had some kind of network learning and have learned both informally and non-formally. All respondents expressed a desire for increased cooperation, especially with other HR-partners within the company. One conclusion from our study is that an increased focus on collaboration and a clearer definition of roles from the business could lead to an improvement and development of the role “HR partner”.

Full textThe purpose of this report is to illustrate how competence development as a term appears in a firms documents and texts. We intend to illustrate that the impact of language and written words can factor in the social relations of an activity. Firms of today put a great deal of reliance on explicit documentation to ensure the quality of daily work, as well as clarifying what should be done and by whom. Sometimes too much dependability is placed on the usage of these documents, as they could be only an idealized reality of the daily work. Our start is a qualitative approach and as a method we use discourse analysis. This method proceeds from texts in the analysis and all of these discuss competence development as a term. When the term competence development is widely and complicated we support us upon Ellstrom´s definition. We proceed from a widely ground of former studies and literature to give trustworthiness to this report and it is this background we support us upon in our conclusions in the discussion. What we have found is that in the studied discourse there are three sections of Ellstrom´s definition that are visible and two that are not. These sections who are visible and those who are not we can see that they are divided by in what way learning take place in them, formal respective informal. We have also found power structures in the discourse relating to competence development; both directed to the participants but also pointed to the learning. We intend to clarify the term competence development as well as connect the discourse to the theory in this report.

Full textHealthcare is the workplace that is considered to be particularly vulnerable to work-related stress and has in recent years received attention in research. Nurses report that they experience stress because they do not have sufficient skills to handle their work assignments. At the same time, the workplace must ensure that employees possess the knowledge that is demanded both in the present and in the future. A workplace that focuses on skills development can help achieve both short- and long-term business goals. The purpose of the study was to investigate perceived stress in relation to the requirement in competence of healthcare professionals at a hospital. To answer the purpose of the study, a quantitative survey was carried out on healthcare professionals from various departments of the hospital, in which a total of 56 respondents participated in the study. Furthermore, the results were analyzed using SPSS and also correlation analysis presented by tables created with SPSS. The results of the study show that there was a significant relationship between the need for competence development and stress. The relationship between competence development and stress is based solely on the connection between the need for formal learning and stress, as there was no significant relationship between the need for informal learning and stress. The conclusion of the study is that increased competence development can result in healthcare workers to better manage work demands and may help to reduce the perception of stress.

Full textAim: The purpose of this study was to examine the Migrations Board's competence development work from the managers' and employees' perspective, through examining the managers' strategies for competence development and how the employees' experience their personal requirements and ability to develop competence. The study also aimed to report on the relationship between the managers' and employees' perception of the competence development work. Method: To give an answer to the questions related to the aim - two interviews with two managers and two employees working under each manager were conducted. These interviews were analysed using a thematic analysis method. Results: The managers are performing an integrated strategy to accomplish competence development, which is a strategy that describes the purpose of the competence development activities as being organizational development. The employees expressed a need for formal education and described limited opportunities to develop their competence. This is partly a result of the current refugee situation in Sweden which has lead the Migrations Board to temporarily cancel all their formal competence development programs. Conclusion: There is a discrepancy between whether the goal of competence development is to develop the individual or the organisation. The participating managers' understanding is that competence development develops the organisation, while the employees' understanding is that the purpose with competence development is to develop the individual.

Full textSyftet med detta examensarbete är att fördjupa vår förståelse kring matematikspråk och kommunikation som verktyg i matematikundervisningen. Detta har sökts svar på genom att observera och intervjua tre stycken matematiklärare i grundskolans lägre åldrar. Vi har undersökt hur dessa lärare använder och ser på muntlig kommunikation samt infor-mellt och formellt matematikspråk. Vi redogör för tidigare forskning kring språk och kommunikation i matematikundervis-ningen. Studiens utgångspunkt är Vygotskijs syn på språk och kommunikation i ett so-ciokulturellt perspektiv. I resultatet kan vi se att de tre lärarna för en balansgång mellan det informella och for-mella matematikspråket, men sättet de gör det på skiljer sig åt. Viktigt är att möta ele-ven på dennes abstraktionsnivå, anser lärarna. Förståelsen inför matematiska fenomen framkommer genom kommunikation där språket har en nyckelroll. Genom resultaten har vi fått en djupare förståelse kring matematikspråk och vikten av kommunikation i matematikundervisningen där elevens tankar lyfts.
The object of this paper is to attain a deeper understanding of the language of mathe-matics when communicating in a teaching situation. In order to acquire this understand-ing we have observed and interviewed three junior school teachers. We have studied their methods and approach when communicating orally and also examined the way they use the formal and informal language of mathematics in teaching situations. We discuss Previous research with regards to language and communication in the teach-ing of mathematics. We also explain Vygotskij’s sociocultural theory on language and communication. The result shows that the three teachers involved strike a balance between the formal and informal language of mathematics, but the way they achieve this differs. The teach-ers agree that it is important to take into consideration a pupil’s capacity for abstract thought. Understanding mathematical phenomena is made possible if the language used is given a key role in the teaching situation. Our results have given us a deeper knowl-edge of our subject for study and they have also shown the importance of communica-tion in the teaching of mathematics when focusing on the way individual pupils think.

Full textJob satisfaction and informal learning are two well-studied subjects, but insufficient studies have examined the relationship between them both. An explanation could be that job satisfaction being within the framework of psychology and informal learning being within the framework of pedagogy. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and informal learning. As previous studies indicate personality is important for both job satisfaction and informal learning, we have chosen to add personality as a moderating variable, to see how the relationship is affected. A quantitative method was used and data collection was done through web-based questionnaires consisting of 66 statements. The questionnaires consisted of four instruments, IPIP-30 (intended to measurepersonality dimensions), instruments for informal learning in the workplace (LPW),instruments for job satisfaction, instruments for Work-Life-Balance (COPSOQ) and general questions (age, gender, education, distance during covid-19, personnel responsibilities, years at current workplace and general state of health). A total of 225 people participated in the study(M = 34 years, SD = 12, range 18-69 years, 91.5% women). The results testify to a positively significant relationship between job satisfaction and informal learning. Neuroticism,extraversion, and conscientiousness demonstrate significance to job satisfaction separately, but have no interaction effect on the relationship between our two main variables, meaning that personality has no moderating effect on the relationship between job satisfaction and informal learning. Our conclusion is that informal learning seems to play a significant role in job satisfaction and that further studies in this area are encouraged.

Full textThis essay studies upper secondary school language teachers’ use of and attitudes towards informal learning activities which are considered to promote improved student learning and motivation. Informal learning activities include narrative forms, technology-based learning aids for interaction with other target language speakers and inclusion of authentic material from the target language culture, social interaction and collaboration. Along with reviewing previous research on informal and formal learning, theories about motivation are also examined. The connection between informal learning and student learning and motivation is presented and constitutes the foundation of the essay. In order to collect quantitative data, a number of language teachers were asked to fill in a questionnaire of statements about the contents of their instruction. Results show that upper secondary school language teachers in general are inclined to use informal learning activities in their instruction to a great extent. The application of these informal learning activities appears to improve students’ learning along with increasing their motivation.

Full textEnd User Training (EUT) is an important part of the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP system), since it is a prerequisite for companies to reach the expected benefits of their new ERP system. Therefore, EUT is an important factor during the whole ERP implementation, from pre-implementation to post-implementation. Despite the importance of EUT during ERP implementation the conducted EUT is inadequate since it does not create conditions for the users to effectively and independently use the ERP after the completion of training. The purpose of this study is to examine how EUT is conducted during ERP implementation and to identify challenges that client organizations face in connection with EUT. This study was based on a qualitative approach in which semistructured interviews were conducted. The result indicates that the EUT provided pre-implementation differs from that which occurs during post-implementation. The main part of the EUT is conducted pre-implementation and consists of formal training methods. During post-implementation, none or little formal training is performed, but some informal learning takes place. To conduct EUT during ERP implementation can entail challenges. In this study, following challenges can be identified for clientorganizations connected to EUT: "unclear responsibility for EUT", "responsibility in the role of key user", "user responsibility for learning," and "user motivation andcommitment".
