Abstract:
We presented a demonstration of infrared laser irradiated field emission electronic pulse based on carbon nanotube (CNT) cathodes. Electronic pulses greatly depended on pulsed infrared laser and were almost synchronous with laser pulses. We have designed a pulsed field emission cathode based on CNTs and investigated correlation between electronic pulse and laser pulse, acquiring the shortest width of electronic pulses about 50 ms and turn-on field less than 0.14 V/μm. Besides, we have studied the thermal effect on the pulsed field emission of CNT cathodes caused by laser heating. Interestingly

Abstract We experimentally demonstrate the generation of duration-controllable pulses at 2.8 µm based on bias-pump technique for the first time. Bias-pumped by a 976 nm continuous-wave (CW)-pulsed combined laser, duration-controllable pulses are produced from an Er:ZBLAN fiber laser and the duration is entirely determined by the duration of pump pulse. Numerical simulations agree with experimental results well, and further predict that the temporal profile of output pulse from bias-pumped Er:ZBLAN fiber laser can also be identical with that of pump pulse under certain conditions. It is suggested that the incident radiation is absorbed by ceramic particles, exciting lattice vibrations known as phonons. As phonons accumulate, they transition to a higher energy state, generating infrared photons. The key role is played by the presence of a rising edge of the radiation pulse, which determines the wavelength of the pulses regardless of the wavelength of the infrared energy carrier. As a result,

We show numerically that ultra-short pulses can be generated in the mid-infrared when a gas filled hollow-core fiber is pumped by a fundamental pulse and its second harmonic. The generation process originates from a cascaded nonlinear phenomenon starting from a spectral broadening of the two pulses followed by an induced phase-matched four wave-mixing lying in the mid-infrared combined with a dispersive wave. By selecting this mid-infrared band with a spectral filter, we demonstrate the generation of ultra-short 60 fs pulses at a 3–4 µm band and a pulse duration of 20 fs can be reached with an

We simulate and elucidate the self-channeling of high-power 10 mu m infrared pulses in atomic gases. The major new result is that the peak intensity can remain remarkably stable over many Rayleigh ranges. This arises from the balance between the self-focusing, diffraction, and defocusing caused by the excitation induced dephasing due to many-body Coulomb effects that enhance the low-intensity plasma densities. This new paradigm removes the Rayleigh range limit for sources in the 8-12 mu m atmospheric transmission window and enables transport of individual multi-TW pulses over multiple kilomete

LWIR pulses are amplified to 80 μJ energy in an angularly multi-beam non-collinearly seeded and non-collinearly pumped OPCPA, the first being pumped by a burst-mode Nd:YAG amplifier. LWIR pulse energies of >10 mJ are targeted.

Abstract:
Autonomous vehicles (AVs) utilize multiple devices, like high-resolution cameras and radar sensors, to interpret the driving environment and achieve full autonomy. One of these instruments—the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor—utilizes pulsed infrared (IR) light, typically at wavelengths of 905 nm or 1,550 nm, to calculate object distance and position. Exterior automotive paint covers an area larger than any other exterior material. Therefore, understanding how LiDAR wavelengths interact with vehicle coatings is extremely important for the safety of future automated driving technologi
