Abstract:
Critical infrastructure (CI) sees to assets that are essential for the functioning of a society and economy, as they provide public services, enhance quality of life, sustain private profits and spur economic growth. Assets of CI differ considerably, ranging from hardware such as cables and wires, through to networks for the generation and supply of energy sources. Critical infrastructures encompass many sectors of the economy, such as banking and finance, transport and distribution, energy, utilities, health, food supply and communications, aswell as key government services.

The dissertation explores the main economic issues that arise in investment decisions in financing transportation infrastructure. We show firstly that the option to invest incorporates at optimum the option to scale dynamically the operation within the installed facility, an issue neglected by the majority of real option studies. As result, we find that the value of waiting can be dramatically lower with respect to the case of the standard real options model. Moreover, the value of waiting is also lower in a market where the demand is inelastic. Secondly, we show that in presence of market ris

This paper-Review aims to clarify the infrastructural development of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region and its difficult cross-border vision towards the Trans European Transport Network (TEN-T). Two Port Authorities competitors, Trieste and Koper have aimed to build a secondary track system to fulfill the EU sustainability and to adhere to the silk-road model. Trieste takes advantage of Annex VI, part of the Treaty of Paris, that has guaranteed a Free Port legal regime in combination with the recent Special Economic Zone (ZES), by which a further tax relief has played a strong Key-enabler role.
