Kafk as mysteriöses Wesen Odradek, dessen Name ebenso wenig festzumachen ist wie sein Aussehen oder Wohnort, ist der Paradefall einer ‘Existenz’(?), die “betwixt and between” ist: so lautet die berühmte Formel, die der schottisch-amerikanische Anthropologe Victor Turner (1920–1983) für sein Modell der Liminalität geprägt hat (2005, 95). Dabei handelt es sich ursprünglich um eine räumliche Denkfi gur: “Liminal” ist ein Zwischenraum zwischen zwei Zuständen, die sich auch als Gebiete im buchstäblichen oder übertragenen Sinn verstehen lassen – wobei im Zentrum dieses Vorstellungsraums ein Konzept der Grenze (des limen) steht, die diese nicht als körperlose Linie, sondern als Schwelle, ja als Puff erzone zwischen zwei Sphären sieht: ein Durchgangsbereich, in dem man innehalten, aber auch zwischen diskursiven oder realen Fronten gefangen sein kann. ‘Liminalität’ kann also auch als art of becoming verstanden werden (etwa bei einem Initiationsritus zwischen Kindheit und Erwachsenenalter), ja im übertragenen Sinn die Utopie des eingeschlossenen Dritten darstellen, die dazu dient, die Falltüren einer binären Entweder-Oder-Logik zu überbrücken; es kann aber auch der unbefriedigende Zustand eines Nicht-mehr-und-Noch-nicht in einem Niemandsland sein, der die sich Aufh altenden aus beiden an einander angrenzenden Räumen ausschließt – so wie etwa jene Passagiere, die aufgrund eines Visaproblems scheinbar endlos im Transitraum eines Flughafens fe stgehalten werden.

Abstract:
This volume deals with the relationship between German Protestant missionary societies and African initiation rites in what is now South Africa during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It focuses upon the Moravian Church, the Berlin Mission and the Hermannsburg Mission, drawing upon the periodicals which these missionary societies published. It is shown that initiation rites in many cases constituted a major arena of conflict.

Makala haya yanalenga kuchambua fani na maudhui, muundo na dhamira za tamthilia za Kiswahili zihusuzo VVU/UKIMWI, hasa tamthilia kutoka Tanzania, na uhusiano baina ya VVU/UKIMWI na mila za jadi kama sherehe za jando na unyago. Dhamira muhimu ya kujadili ugonjwa katika kazi za fasihi barani Afrika ilichimbuka katika sanaa za maonyesho ya jadi ya Kiafrika yaani katika shughuli za ngoma na miviga ya kidini kama matambiko kwa miungu, kumtolea Mungu kafara ili mgonjwa apate dawa au kupona. Maudhui yanayohusu ugonjwa yameingia katika tamthilia mamboleo kwa nia ya kuoanisha tamthilia ya kigeni na ngoma ya kijadi, hasa baada ya miaka ya 1980 (ling. Mlama 1983; Hussein 1983). Katika tamthilia za Tanzania za kisasa magonjwa yanayozungumziwa ni mengi, lakini kuanzia miaka ya themanini ugonjwa mpya, yaani VVU/UKIMWI, unachukua nafasi ya dhamira kuu katika kazi nyingi. Lengo kuu la makala haya ni kuchambua na kuhakiki tamthilia teule sita zihusuzo VVU/UKIMWI na kuandikwa zote na waandishi wa kutoka Tanzania. Ninachambua vipengele mbalimbali vya fani na maudhui nikiangalia uhusiano baina ya sifa za kimapokeo na za mamboleo. Ninafafanua pia athari za kimagharibi kutoka tamthilia ya Wayunani yaani vigezo vya Aristotle na dhana ya tanzia. Kwa kuunganisha nadharia za kale za Kimagharibi na za kisasa kutoka Afrika Mashariki, nitatumia pia nadharia ya korasi (Mutembei 2012), na vilevile kuchambua athari za ki-Brecht yaani ukengeushi ambazo zimekuwa na umuhimu mkubwa kwa tamthilia ya kutoka nchini kwingi Afrika na ulimwenguni kote.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of womanhood in relation to the Swedish fäbod culture at the turn of the 20th century. The study is based upon a questionnaire from 1928 and the material is collected from the archives at the Nordic Museum in Stockholm and the Institute for Language and Folklore in Uppsala. Drawing upon gender and ritual theories, the study intends to gain an understanding for what it meant to be a woman of the fäbod by examining how fäbod herdswomen were culturally shaped and initiated into women both in relation to their place in the fäbod community of herdswomen, but also in respect to the wider community and society of which they were a part of.  The main conclusion of the study is that the journey into the fäbod woods can be seen as a rite of passage where adolescent girls going to the fäbod for the first time were initiated into the fäbod community of herdswomen. Womanhood is a cultural phenomenon in which women are culturally shaped and initiated into women not only by the codes, conceptions and values of the society at large, but also by the stories, customs and traditions of their local communities. The fäbod herdswomen were born into the gender power structures of a patriarchal society that sought to shape them into promising wives, and they were also women of the fäbod, initiated into the fäbod communitas, a form of female counterculture with its very own musical language, customs and traditions, and with its very own definitions of womanhood.

Abstract:

Min undersökning visar att det i den ursprungliga judiska traditionen finns en närhet till den kosmiska strukturen. Den har därmed också bevarat en närhet till naturen och till de mänskliga instinkterna. Dessa är i sig varken primitiva eller onda, inte heller tillhör de en förfluten tid och kultur; de utgör istället en bro till helighet, även i vår tid. En ny tidsålder tvingar fram en ny syn på människans instinkter, som då de i likhet med emotionerna medvetandegjorts och bearbetats i en kontemplativ process, erbjuder en livsnödvändig källa till hälsa, energi och helighet.

I min analys av den schamaniska ritualen i Metzora har jag lämnat den gängse tolkningen, och jag har dessutom relaterat ritualens symboler till ett kabbalistiskt synsätt. Jag har därmed lyft fram begreppet balans, som är grundläggande i alla ursprungliga religioner. Jag har också relaterat begreppen ”balans” och ”obalans” till de bibliska begreppen ”renhet” och ”orenhet”, som enligt min analys av Metzora betecknar mental balans respektive mental obalans. Jungs många kommentarer om coniunctio oppositorum har hjälpt mig att sprida ljus över denna process.

Med hjälp av amplifikation har jag strävat efter att fördjupa förståelsen av den schamaniska ritualen i Metzora och dess funktion. Genom att relatera de tre symbolerna i ritualen till en kabbalistisk text har jag visat att ezov – isop - inte är den mest troliga symbolen för ödmjukhet, vilket är den vanligaste tolkningen. I min tolkning symboliseras istället ödmjukhet av sheni toláat - den rödfärgade ylleremsan. Tillsammans utgör de tre föremålen i ritualen – etz erez, ezov och sheni toláat - en symbol för balans. Till skillnad från den traditionella tolkningen har jag också försökt ge en psykologisk förklaring till den uppenbarligen psykosomatiska och stressrelaterade hudåkomma som i de flesta översättningar felaktigt kallas för ”spetälska”. Jag har därmed delvis frångått den traditionella synen på denna sjukdom som ett straff för baktal och skvaller.
