Abstract This paper presents a method for robust inline reconstruction of geometric features in sheet metal forming using commercially available line-scanning laser triangulation sensors. The goal is to achieve 100 percent inline component inspection to reduce scrap and improve efficiency. A ray tracing-based simulation approach is employed to assess uncertainties introduced by sensor limitations, shadowing, resolution constraints, and sensor noise. Additionally, a calibration procedure is presented, where a calibration object is used to verify and correct the laser plane’s alignment into a re

The Gamma Ray Energy Tracking Array (GRETA) is a state of the art gamma-ray spectrometer being built at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to be first sited at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University. A key design requirement for the spectrometer is to perform gamma-ray tracking in near real time. To meet this requirement we have used an inline, streaming approach to signal processing in the GRETA data acquisition system, using a GPU-equipped computing cluster. The data stream will reach 480 thousand events per second at an aggregate data rate of 4 gigabytes

Continuous sensing of water parameters is of great importance to fluid dynamic progress study in oceans, coastal areas and inland waters. The acoustic tomography technique can perform water temperature field measurements horizontally and vertically using sound wave travel information. The layer-averaged water temperature can also be measured with the acoustic tomography method. However, investigations focusing on the stratified mechanism, which consists of stratification form and its influence on inversion error, are seldom performed. Surface tension is an essential material property that defines many aspects of thermal processes involving liquids. Metal materials have high melting temperatures, and surface tension could often be measured around melting temperature and is, therefore, known for many pure materials and simple material systems. However, high-energy input during laser, electron beam, or plasma processes is known to increase the material temperatures far above the melting point. Abstract The misorientation of three-component seismometers restricts the application of relevant seismic experiments such as ocean-bottom seismometer (OBS) arrays. Previous orientation determination relied on an assumption that the propagation azimuth of seismic waves follows the great-circle path (GCP) azimuth. This assumption may yield systematic errors in the estimated orientation, particularly when the ray paths are bent laterally due to velocity heterogeneity in the Earth.
