Abstract:
When Siegrist (1989) derived an expression for the probability that player A wins a game that consists of a sequence of Bernoulli trials, the winner being the first player to win n trials and have a lead of at least k, he noted the desirability of giving a direct probabilistic argument. Here we present such an argument, and extend the domain of applicability of the results beyond Bernoulli trials, including cases (such as the tie-break in lawn tennis) where the probability of winning each trial cannot reasonably be taken as constant, and to where there is Markov dependence between successive trials.

Abstract:
Nearly fifty years ago, Timothy Gallwey published The Inner Game of Tennis, which left an indelible mark on sports psychology; subsequently, Barry Green used similar principles to author The Inner Game of Music. As far as can be determined, there lacks a concise guide that translates key insights from sports and music psychology into practical strategies for large ensembles. To address this gap in the professional literature, we draw on the sports and music psychology literature, as well as our own professional applied experience, to discuss the benefits of psychological skills for musicians, and we present ten practical strategies to aid the development of psychological skills for large-ensemble musicians. We conclude with some final thoughts on developing the inner musician.

Abstract:
UTM Games is an annual sports tournament organized by UTM Sports Excellence involving students, staff team, PELUAS (International Student Team) and International Campus Kuala Lumpur. There are 14 types of contested games such as volleyball, soccer, squash, netball, bowling, badminton, kayaking, futsal, sepak takraw, table tennis, tennis, basketball, cycling, and lawn bowls. Currently registration and review of result for UTM Games are still done manually and on papers for some of the residential colleges. While for some other residential colleges, registration and review of results are done by web applications such as in Tun Ghafar Baba College (KTGB). Therefore, the Registration and Review of Results for UTM Games using Smart Phone is developed because most users nowadays have a smartphone and internet access. In addition, the system allows the user to see the results of UTM Games without having to log into social sites such as Facebook. The system is developed using ASP.Net technology and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. The methodology used in developing this system is a prototype evolving methodology. This methodology allows the user to provide feedback and insights to add dynamically. The prototype will be modified according to the views and feedback given. The system is a platform to make it easier for managers to register for the game. In addition, the system is developed to enable students to review results from UTM Games more quickly and accurately.

"Such was the conclusion of Denning J in Central London Property Trust v High Trees House Ltd. Under the terms of a lease entered into in 1937, the defendant tenant agreed to pay a yearly ground rent of £2,500 for a block of flats for a period of 99 years. In early 1940, due to the wartime conditions then prevailing, only very few of the flats had been leased to tenants and it became apparent that the defendant was not in a position to pay the annual rent. Discussions took place between the defendant and the plaintiff landlord, in which it was agreed that the rent would be halved as from January 1940. By 1945, all the flats were let, but the defendant was still paying only £1,250 per annum and the plaintiff served notice in September 1945 that the rent should be restored to £2,500 per annum and initiated via the instigation of the receiver ‘friendly’ proceedings to test the legal position. The defendant argued, inter alia, that the rent reduction applied to the whole of the term of the lease and that the plaintiff was estopped from demanding rent at the higher rate. Denning J held that the plaintiff was estopped from demanding the full rent while the conditions which gave rise to the agreement to reduce the rent prevailed. But since those conditions had ceased to exist by 1945, the plaintiff was at liberty to serve notice of an intention to charge the full rent: Central London Property Trust v High Trees House Ltd [1947] KB 130, p 134."
