In this thesis was analyzed innovation management in the enterprise as a whole and on the example of LLC "SILPO - FOOD" The first section explores the theoretical aspects of innovation of enterprises, defines the concept of innovation, which is important because the idea of their content determines the approach to evaluation, measurement and management. Innovative activity of the enterprise is a complex process of creation, use and distribution of innovations for the purpose of reception of competitive advantages and increase of profitability of the manufacture. In the second section of the thesis was evaluated the organization of innovative activities of the organization LLC "SILPO - FOOD" The most appropriate legal form of regulation of economic relations for the supply of products and goods is a supply contract. In the implementation of the process of selling goods an important place is occupied by the analysis of the network of buyers. The experience of Silpo LLC in this field has shown that it is not enough to find a buyer, bring him the necessary information and expect him to take the initiative to cooperate. The company's strengths are market experience, consumer confidence, a wide range of products and its competitiveness. After analyzing the indicators of innovation, we can conclude that the company is quite innovative. As a result of the analysis of innovation activity of LLC "SILPO - FOOD", the following organizational and economic measures were proposed and considered to intensify innovation activity: reorganization of organizational structure, staff training, development of a new product.

Abstract:
We believe there to be a possible problem with Enterprise Architecture, in that in using standardizations such as frameworks stifles creativity and innovations, focusing on IT-environments. This assumption is not new as there already are thoughts in existence on this subject, each side discussing if there is a fault or not. Out of our own interest we delve deeper into the subject of Enterprise Architecture to see if there is any truth in our assumption and to see if there is anything anyone can do to compensate or solve this perceived problem. We look into what Enterprise Architecture consists of and examine four different popular frameworks associated with it: TOGAF, FEA, Gartner and Zachman. We learn about creativity in Information Systems organizations and its connection to IT. Our research strategy for this thesis is deduction together with two separate phases, one phase is exploratory and the other descriptive. We examine the nature of creativity and innovation, there too with an emphasis on IT. In order to find out if our assumption is correct we seek out literature, articles and other sources of information on innovations, creativity and frameworks. Armed with this information we seek out and perform interviews with people from large commercial organizations who have hands-on work experience working with Enterprise Architecture in order to see if our assumptions have any form of validity and to gain some insight into the subject matter. The method components for this thesis are literature review, document study and interviews. Analyzed with the help of SWOT we use the data gathered from the interviews to gain a visual representation of the results, to see the pros and cons of Enterprise Architecture. The results show that supplements or tools are used in order to produce or support business innovations, using departments, business related social networks or techniques to compensate. Hampering factors for business innovation can be internal conflicts, struggles between different groups for different EA solutions. Promoting business innovation through EA can come from mixing framework bits together, giving the result of a flexible and adaptive framework. It can also come from acting as a common language and a bridge between different hierarchies. EA aids with difficult decisions, evaluating which alternatives for realization and the order services are realized. Meetings can be used to compensate the lack of creativity and innovation rising from EA. A negative consequence of EA can occur during implementation of things related to EA in larger companies. No examples of companies that failed with creating business innovation in their IT with EA were found.

Francois, Du Toit. "Strategies to overcome challenges when implementing an Enterprise Engineering Innovation Life-cycle." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/29184.

Full text
Abstract:
The delivery of innovative IT solutions that support business strategy is an increasing, growing competitive aspect of organisations in the financial sector. Previous research has shown the need to follow an innovative or a more agile and flexible methodology when delivering IT solutions to save cost and enable the solutions to reach the consumer market as soon as possible. To apply agile/innovative methodologies across large organisations requires more alternative approaches than to implement them in small enterprises. The organisation used in the case study, implemented an enterprise engineering innovative lifecycle (EEILC). Limited research has been done concerning the challenges and strategies during implementation of an EEILC. The purpose of this study was to investigate the strategies to overcome the challenges when implementing an EEILC. The research was inductive qualitative following an in-depth case study approach. The researcher conducted a case study using documentation analysis, informal interviews, in-depth interviews and observations with multiple stakeholders who are experts in their fields of software design and development. An inductive grounded theory approach was followed using a case study within an organisation in the financial sector in South Africa. Results show there are seven core category challenges when implementing an innovation life cycle. Each of these core challenges has a core enterprise strategy to address the challenges occurring in the applicable domain. The core challenges are: (1) innovation process challenges (addressed by an agile product delivery innovation strategy) (2) invention challenges (addressed by an idea management strategy) (3) business model challenges (addressed by a client’s value proposition strategy), (4) commercialization challenges, which include implementation and operations challenges, (addressed by a product portfolio management strategy), (5) culture challenges (addressed by an innovation culture strategy) and (6) knowledge management challenges and strategy, and (7) innovation management related challenges and strategy An innovation management strategy will manage all these challenges. Most prominent is the innovation management strategy which has links to all other categories in other domains. The relationship between enterprise client value proposition strategy show that enterprise client value proposition serves as a coherent link between how the innovation life cycle is adopted or changed to address the enterprise client value chain. This is driven by demand management to align between business and IT regarding the business model and application portfolio alignment. Thereafter, the alignment between the demand for enterprise application capabilities and the business service portfolio is shown. This is supported by service-oriented architecture (SOA) services. The resource management has to make sure the right resources, competencies and skills are available to deliver the product portfolio. During innovation and life-cycle's execution, there is a lot of interaction between individuals and teams. Therefore, communication and culture play a vital role to create synergies by collaboration of work practice and living the values of the organization. Through grounded theory analysis, a practical theory was developed, to show how challenges that occur during implementation of an innovation life-cycle, based upon enterprise engineering principles, can be addressed by best by putting the right strategies in place. This theory contributes to the body of knowledge by providing data and analysis from practical insight into how an innovation life cycle can be implemented. The challenges thereof and the mitigating strategies make it work. This study also suggested the key re best practices for enterprise architecture driving such an implementation. The research is an area of interest for development or customizing an Innovation Life-cycle using an Enterprise Engineering Framework.

Huang, Peng. "Essays on innovation ecosystems in the enterprise software industry." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/37144.

Full text
Abstract:
Innovation ecosystem strategy is often adopted by platform technology owners to seek complementary innovation from resources located outside the firm to exploit indirect network effect. In this dissertation I aim to address the issues that are related to the formation and business value of platform innovation ecosystems in the enterprise software industry. The first study explores the role of three factors - increased payoff from access to platform owner's installed base, risk of misappropriation due to knowledge transfer, and the extent of competition - in shaping the decisions of third-party complementors to join a platform ecosystem. The second study evaluates the effect of participation in a platform ecosystem on small independent software vendors' business performances, and how their appropriability strategies, such as ownership of intellectual property rights or downstream complementary capabilities, affect the returns from such partnerships. Built upon resource based view and theory of dynamic capabilities, the third study reveals that users' co-innovation in enterprise information systems, measured by their participation in online professional community networks, constitute a source of intangible organizational asset that helps to enhance firm level IT productivity.

Eid, Haitham Abdelrazek. "The museum innovation model : a museum perspective on open innovation, social enterprise and social innovation." Thesis, University of Leicester, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/37502.

Full text
Abstract:
This PhD research has aimed to contribute towards building a museum perspective of innovation, a contribution that preserves the essence of the term but more importantly takes into consideration the unique role of museums in society. Hence, this research identifies museum innovation as the new or enhanced products, processes or business models by which museums can effectively achieve their social and cultural mission. To our knowledge, this is the first attempt for a museology research to provide a definition for innovation. Furthermore, this research presents a possible model of innovation in museums, called the Museum Innovation Model (MIM). The theoretical framework of the model is based on three concepts, open innovation, social enterprise, and social innovation, each of which, the research observes, are growing trends in the museum sector. These three concepts are interconnected and together can present a formula for innovation in museums. The formula is expressed simply as: museums that adopt social enterprise business model and utilize open innovation strategies are capable of achieving social innovation. The model aims to make innovation in museums scalable, replicable and feasible to start and operate. This research, also attempts to supply the museum studies literature with some terminologies and conceptual frameworks related to innovation. These new entries can bridge ideas and create common grounds with other disciplines such as business studies, which can facilitate future collaborations between academics and practitioners from both sides. Additionally, the clarity of innovation related concepts and terminologies within the museum context can provide the museum sector, internally, with a clearer, more effective, and eloquent way of communicating ideas, projects, goals, objectives, and expectations.

Dellestrand, Henrik. "Orchestrating Innovation in the Multinational Enterprise : Headquarters Involvement in Innovation Transfer Projects." Doctoral thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2010. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-124206.

Full text
Abstract:
In the past several decades research has emphasized innovation development and transfer as key issues when investigating the multinational enterprise (MNE). This thesis focuses on the question of what factors make headquarters involve itself in innovation transfer projects taking place between a sending and a receiving subsidiary within the MNE. This relates to headquarters active participation and role in the organization of resources (structure) and flows (processes) within the MNE. Using a database covering 169 innovation transfer projects the empirical analysis reveals that distances influence headquarters involvement, albeit in different directions. Systematic differences based on subsidiary and innovation characteristics and headquarters involvement is found. Not only subsidiary characteristics are of importance for headquarters involvement, but also the embeddedness of the subsidiary hosting the innovation transfer project. More specifically, physical and cultural distance between the sending and receiving subsidiaries influence headquarters involvement in the transfer negatively, whereas linguistic and economic distance between the subsidiaries conducting the transfer have a positive influence on headquarters involvement in innovation transfer. Looking more closely at the innovations subject to transfer the results suggests that innovations perceived as complex and important are favored for headquarters support. The same is true for innovations that are related to the core business of the subsidiary. At a subsidiary level, powerful subsidiaries initially receive more of headquarters support, but as subsidiary power increase, headquarters becomes less involved, i.e., a curvilinear effect of power is found. Acquired subsidiaries tend to become favored for headquarters involvement in transfer relative to greenfield subsidiaries. Finally, the results indicate that headquarters involves itself in transfer projects when the subsidiaries hosting the transfer projects have been relationally embedded during the innovation development phase. Theoretically, headquarters involvement can be conceptualized as orchestration of innovations within the MNE, and as a form of resource allocation. Thus, this thesis contributes to the understanding of what influences intra-MNE resource allocation, as well as what factors capture the attention of headquarters leading to innovation orchestration. Headquarters involvement in innovation transfer has implications for setting subsidiaries on evolutionary trajectories.

Abstract:
The organization the authors have collaborated with is one of the largest information technology services company in the Nordics, Tieto. This study intends to examine Tieto’s social idea management software solution called Eureka to determine if it helps organizations to increase their innovative capabilities. Eureka helps organizations collect, manage, share, and evaluate their employee’s proposed ideas. Eureka also enables an organization’s resources to better interact with each other in association with idea development. Eureka works like an intranet where by company employees internally get the opportunity to suggest ideas that could improve, e.g., processes, products or services. This study examines whether Tieto’s software solution can help an organization increase its capacity for innovation. An additional aim is to describe the actual value an organization receives by working with Eureka. Empirical findings demonstrate that Eureka is a great tool for organizations to get their employees to interact with one another when it comes to innovation and idea development.

Abstract:

Based on a belief that innovation is increased by Holacratic Engineering Management practices distributing authority to engaged, autonomous, decision makers versus traditional corporate, hierarchical, and delegated decision making, this research examines the relationship between holacratic engineering management and company innovative performance. This proposed new, chaordic, systems engineering and engineering management process, inherently disruptive and arising out of the agile software and lean systems engineering disciplines, is explored using systems thinking and model-based systems engineering principles. This research effort examining Holacratic Engineering Management, an adoptive innovation of lean and agile engineering concepts as a convergence of Holacracy and Lean Enterprise System Engineering includes case studies measuring the effects of Holacratic Engineering Management and Lean Enterprise Systems Engineering on performance. Using soft systems methodology, multiple linear regression is performed on 18 companies that design, develop, and deliver prepackaged software. The theoretical model consists of five component values comprising the holacracy measurements. Companies embracing Holacratic Engineering Management have significantly improved innovation performance.

Abstract:

The impact of Web 2.0 technologies has crossed the Internet borders and is increasingly af-fecting not only individuals but also organizations as entities. The emergence of the Enter-prise 2.0 concept, which presumes the application of Web 2.0 tools within the organiza-tional context, is being intensively adopted by many organizations of all types and sizes world-wide. Authors suggest that there is a direct impact of Enterprise 2.0 system on such organizational aspects as communication, collaboration, cooperation, co-creation and even innovation activities. There is though a sort of informational gap in the literature that would address these concepts (Enterprise 2.0 and Innovation) simultaneously and this was one of the main reasons that motivated the authors of this master thesis to investigate this topic.

In conducting this research all kinds of informational resources were used and these find-ings were combined with the results obtained from a real business case study, which is an example of an Enterprise 2.0 platform (Incentive) implemented within an organization (IBS). The overall research can be described in three main parts. In the first part analysis of the theoretical aspects related to Innovation and Enterprise 2.0 is made. A preliminary re-search framework is build based on these findings and this framework represents an at-tempt to bridge these theoretical dimensions. In the second part the investigation of the „Colin‟ case study was presented. With this case investigation the research gains access to primary data and information. This strengthens the initial research framework and also de-livers new insights and perspectives in connection to the highlighted topic. The findings re-lated to the impact of Enterprise 2.0 on Innovation processes are analyzed and discussed in the final part of the research from theoretical and empirical perspectives.

An enhanced framework, representing the result of the theoretical and empirical studies, is ultimately suggested. This model represents an attempt to portray how can an Enterprise 2.0 system support innovation activities in a more generic way, addressing together major factors that are critical for an innovation process. This investigation has also determined that such Enterprise 2.0 tools as Wikis, Blogs, Social Networking, Micro-blogging, Forums & Discussions, Search Engines, Tagging etc. are having the highest impact on innovation related activities. Additionally, the managerial aspect in relation to Enterprise 2.0 influence on Innovation has proved to be extremely important, especially during the implementation phase.

Abstract:
Abstract Micro financing is perceived to contribute towards poverty reduction by developing small enterprises. We examined the Challenging the Frontiers of Poverty Reduction (CFPR) programme implemented by the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) between 2002 and 2007. We selected this case because it used a different approach of micro financing where assets were transferred rather than cash to participants. We examined two aspects of the programme: (i) the impact of micro financing through asset transfer instead of cash on reducing poverty; (ii) the factors that contributed to positive impact or little or no impact on the economic conditions of the participant households and the trajectories of changes experienced in these economic conditions. These were analysed using data gathered from a survey of 21 beneficiaries and also from the in-depth interviews of 8 of these households, which included both successful and not so successful cases. The study found that the asset transferring programme resulted in significant improvement in the livelihood of the majority of members. However, in some cases the beneficiaries did not see any or significant improvement in their livelihood. The study revealed that households that demonstrated proper planning, hard work, and personal interest in the business they started have witnessed improved quality of life through micro financing, while idleness of members and absence of proper planning resulted in failures. To some extent, it was found that social barriers can also contribute to failures, even if the beneficiaries work hard and are highly motivated. Based on these findings, the study makes some policy recommendations

Etges, Ana Paula Beck da Silva. "The economic enterprise risk management innovation program for healthcare organizations : E2RMhealthcare." reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da UFRGS, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10183/185804.

Full text
Abstract:
Since the ISO 31000 publication in 2009 and the COSO guide in 2007 Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has been applied and adapted to the specificities of different business markets. The hospital context characterized by the demand for advances in management systems and methods that allow to improve information accuracy and to support the decision-making process, also became interested in the value of ERM. Influenced by quality and patient safety and healthcare risk management programs presents in the global hospital culture, managers at the top of healthcare organizations started to look for methodologies that can be adapted to the hospital management complexity to support the ERM implementation. The literature, prior to the development of this thesis, does not present a model that consolidates a guide to operationalize ERM in healthcare organizations. Although emphasizes, in multiple publications, the urgency for methodologies that enable proactive and strategic management of healthcare businesses, which are exposed to internal and external risks. Motivated by the described gap, this thesis explored the Brazilian and American healthcare market through interviews, case studies and survey, and proposed a global ERM model for healthcare organizations: E2RMhealthcare. It suggests requirements for global operationalization of the ERM and is organized in 4 levels: risk baseline, education, quantitative and governance that guide a gradual implementation, considering the maturity of the organization management. Different manners to explore the features of the hospital and human capital to operate the ERM were also studied, and it was proposed a relation between the hospital healthcare technology assessment teams and the ERM in the value creation process of the organization through a cause and effect map. Focusing on the healthcare business, this thesis innovates by proposing the first enterprise risk inventory aimed at healthcare organizations that was confirmed by risk managers from different countries. Cyber-attack was identified as the main enterprise risk in healhtcare. Finally, the use of multicriterial analysis methods and activity-based costing are applied as innovative solutions for prioritization and economic assessment of risks throughout the Baseline and Quantitative levels of E2RMhealthcare. The progress of E2RMhealthcare with these incorporated methodologies for a software with artificial intelligence capacity is left as a suggestion for future studies, in addition to its actual application in multiple cases.

Abstract:
Ample research has been conducted to identify the determinants of information technology (IT) adoption. No previous quantitative researchers have explored IT adoption in the context of enterprise social computing (ESC). The purpose of this study was to test and extend the social influence model of IT adoption. In addition, this study addressed a gap in the research literature and presented a model that relates the independent variables of social action, social consensus, social authority, social cooperation, perceived relative advantage, perceived compatibility, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and organizational commitment to the dependent variables of social embracement and embedment. A randomized stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed on survey data from 125 C-level executives (i.e., chief information officers and chief technology officers). The analysis found that executives consider perceived relative advantage, organizational commitment, and social computing action as the most significant factors relating to the adoption of ESC. Executives' perceptions about ESC could impact organizational commitment, implementation, and use of such technologies. The findings could make a social contribution within organizations by helping C-level executives understand the degree to which these factors contribute to the ESC adoption. The knowledge from this study may also help organizations derive operational effectiveness, efficiency, and create business value for their clients and society.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents a multilevel model of national-level factors and their impact on the organizational-level characteristics of social enterprises and their innovations. This study builds on the foundations of two theoretical frameworks: the national systems of innovation, which recognizes economic competitiveness to be a product of several interrelated institutions (e.g. financial, educational, cultural, historical) and where organizational-level innovation drives country level competitiveness; and the comparative social enterprise framework, which contends that national-level institutions (e.g., economic competitiveness, models of civil society) drive the size and shape of the social enterprise sector of a country. Data for this study were collected from multiple secondary global datasets representing 54 countries across seven world regions. Research questions and hypotheses are examined using ordinal and logistic hierarchical generalized linear modeling, two analytical techniques capable of explaining variation at one level (i.e., organizations) as a consequence of factors at another level of analysis (i.e., countries) for non-normally distributed dependent variables. Findings indicate that economic competitiveness, welfare spending, culture and quality of life significantly impact the odds of a business being a social enterprise. Fewer significant relationships were found social enterprise innovations. Conclusions and policy implications are discussed in light of data limitations and the current state of the field.

Mozaffar, Hajar. "Inside the new sites of innovation : how user communities influence complex enterprise technologies." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/17920.

Full text
Abstract:
User groups have been recognised as one of the most important coupling mechanisms between users and vendors. There are hundreds of such groups around the world attached to complex technological artefacts and systems. Innovation scholars have referred to these groups as the new sites of innovation and gone as far to suggest that vendors may struggle to survive without the user-led innovation that derives from these forums (von Hippel, 2005). This is particularly the case for software products. However, despite their growing academic and policy importance, and notwithstanding the fact these communities have been in existence for more than three decades, the Information Systems literature has not yet explained the complex workings of such groups. This study produces one of the first ethnographic studies of a major software user group linked to a complex packaged enterprise system. It describes and characterises the range of functions carried out by this group, which includes their internal workings and organisation, how members relate to each other, how the group links to the vendor and other intermediaries, and the group’s attempts to shape the development of its technology. A key focus of the work is the various tensions and barriers found in these communities. To analyse this group the study adopts and extends the Social Shaping of Technology (SST) and its recent offshoot, the ‘Biography of Artefact’ (BoA) framework. This thesis contributes to these approaches by showing the importance of multifaceted time dimensions and heterogeneity of spaces in examining users groups. Whilst existing studies using these approaches have looked at the evolution of technology over extended periods, this thesis contributes by considering the coevolution of the technology and the community attached at the same time. This allows us not only to gain a better conceptualisation of the user group but as a result see new forms of innovation invisible to more dominant perspectives. It challenges economist led understandings of user-led innovation which tend to give only a rather superficial understanding of the process by which users create new innovation. In particular, and through arguing for the need to take into account both ‘success’ and ‘failure’ in the process of user-led innovation, the thesis offers the concept of ‘artification’ to explain further complex outputs originating from the interaction of these actors in multiple spaces and over long periods of time. The thesis also extends theories of the Social Shaping of Technology by depicting innovation as an arena where different actor spaces act collectively, but also compete, and as a result wield influence on different stages of the technology lifecycle. This leads to a further contribution of this thesis in the field of Information Systems research by suggesting that enterprise software innovation is a community achievement. In particular, the research proposes the concept of ‘unification’ to show the collective acts of users in aggregating their needs to participate in the development of technology. The study concludes by offering insights and recommendation to practitioners and policy makers for deploying user communities for better technological outcomes, both in terms of design and development as well as implementation and use.

Abstract:
Since the 21st century, with the further development of globalization, innovation resources came into an open innovation era. Innovation resources can flow freely in a global scale. In the process of flow, innovation resources agglomeration in some cities, makes these cities become the global science and technology innovation center. Innovation has become the most important source of competitive advantage, and building innovative capacity can provide a strong impetus for the comprehensive competitiveness and economic prosperity (Porter & Stern, 2001). Innovation resources agglomeration makes innovation happen continuously, thus makes the global science and technology innovation center becomes the new engine and important support of national comprehensive strength. After two major industrial structure shift, the traditional development advantages are vanishing. The current economic growth of Shanghai is below the national average; the traditional development advantage is gradually weakening. At the same time, China's economy is faced with an L-shaped recession (Lei, 2016). Therefore, to become the global science and technology innovation center is not only necessary for Shanghai’s own transformation and development, but also accordance with the national development strategy. The aim of the Chinese government is to preliminarily finishes the work of develop Shanghai into the global science and technology innovation center during the period of 13th Five-Year Development Plan1 (from 2016 to 2020). Improve the innovation resources agglomeration capacity of Shanghai, and maximum accumulate innovation resources is the key to success. The existing studies have shown that innovation resources agglomeration has the characteristic of self-organizing, and there is the Matthew effect in this process: the better the innovation foundation, the more obvious the agglomeration effect, and vice versa. This research will from the perspective of the innovation system theory, using DEA method to study the R&D resources utilization efficiency of Shanghai’s industrial enterprises above designated size, demonstrates the deficiencies of Shanghai’s innovation resources agglomeration foundation, and put forward suggestions for improvement.

Abstract:
Innovation as the most important way for firms to retain their long-term competitiveness has been extensively researched lately. In this thesis, the author perceived innovation from the bottom up approach, where innovation spans over a broad spectrum of actors, reaching the initiative at a very low level. From this perspective, although innovation starts from an initial idea within an individual’s mind, the connections and interactions between individuals in a social context are very important for idea generation and innovation implementation. Thus social links and interaction within the enterprise context hold an important role in the firms’ innovation. Enterprise Social Network (ESN), defined as “a set of technologies that creates business value by connecting the members of an organization through profiles, updates, and notifications”, comes as one strategy to facilitate professional social networking activities within firms to support better collaboration and communication. However, nowadays when social networking becomes very popular, theimplementation of ESN appears more of a trend for firms instead of a well planned strategy. Most ESN implementations lack means of evaluation of their impacts towardthe firms’ performance, including innovation. In response to that, this thesis’s aim is to answer the ‘how’ question on ESN support toward 9 innovation climate characteristics and social interaction within firm. In this research, an interpretive research methodology was applied towards a case in a global telecom company, Ericsson, with their ESN called MyNET. As part of the methodology, a survey and interviews were done to assess MyNET users’ experience and opinion in this matter. The social network graph was also used in this methodology as an additional input for the interviews. There were 672 respondents participating in the survey and 10 interviews were conducted. The results show that the targeted goals of MyNET implementation support innovation climate characteristics. The results also show that professional social networking activities supported by MyNET such as individual user profile, add colleague in the social network, share information, ask and answer questions, join community, etc, provide an innovative way for social interaction supporting better communication and collaboration which is important for innovation in a global ompany.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Under conditions of pervasive change, the most difficult challenge facing the market leader is sustaining its leading position. The primary research problem statement relates to the construct of Disruptive Innovation that has the potential for new entrants to substantially alter the basis of competition and impact the business models of incumbents. Ultimately, how are shapers distinguished from adopters of Disruptive Innovation? A qualitative research methodology was selected given the nature of the research. The main findings from the analysis indicate that nontechnological attributes distinguishes shapers from adopters of Disruptive Innovation in the telecommunications sector of South Africa. However, Disruptive Innovation as a construct, is largely unknown, and does not adequately explain the changes in the landscape of the telecommunications sector of South Africa. The implications for the research results are that other factors or features, such as the role and impact of the State, have a role to play in explaining the features of the South African telecommunications sector.

Abstract:
The entrepreneurs behind newly formed companies in Sweden as well as small medium-sized enterprises and start-ups are increasingly getting involved in open innovation or exploring its practices. They do this in order to develop innovative products and services. SMEs and start-ups are collaborating with external stakeholders, such as enterprise service providers, industrial suppliers, research institutions or universities, to either bring their innovative products and solutions to the market faster or to stay ahead of the game of competitions. By engaging in open innovation practices, the different stakeholders involved are able to combine human capital, in addition with a collection of available resources. By reading further into this thesis research, a typical exploration of resources can be noticed spanning from hardware to software and from soft skills to hard skills, thus resulting to innovative outcomes (product and services). This thesis research will investigate the benefits Swedish start-ups and small-medium-sized enterprises can gain from open innovation. There are several studies on large companies that use open innovation to generate additional values. Accordingly, external learning is very important in small and medium-size enterprises for growth. However, there are fewer studies on startups and SMEs, in terms of open innovation; therefore, this research study aims to address this gap. SMEs and open innovation are becoming very important in the local Swedish and global knowledge-based economy. In the past Sweden’s economy, SME played an important role and in the future SMEs are estimated to be more important, due to the rapid technology development and fast-growing services sector. An important contributing fact to the local economy is that 9 out 10 new jobs during the last twenty years were created within the SME sector in Sweden. Accordingly, this study has highlighted the importance of external learning and its contribution towards improving the innovative performance of small and medium-size enterprises. The findings from all interviews and case study revealed different impact about the importance of open innovation. All companies had their respective motivating reasons to explore external resources, while some could attest the resources helped to verify their assumption. Other SME and companies were collaborating with research institutes, academia in order to complement their innovation process, which ended up being a benefit to all parties involved in open innovation.

Abstract:
The three essays that comprise my dissertation are drawn from a longitudinal field study of the work process innovation of sourcing professionals at a large multinational paper products and related chemicals manufacturing firm. The focus of this study is an examination of how characteristics of the work process innovation context impact enterprise system (ES) acceptance, rich ES use behavior and the resulting individual-level job outcomes realized by knowledge workers in a strategic business process. The ES, an enterprise sourcing application, was introduced to innovate the work processes of employees who perform the sourcing business process. Over a period of 12 months, we collected survey data at four points in time (pre-implementation, immediately following training on the new system; following six months of use; and, following 12 months of use) to trace the innovation process as it unfolded. The three essays that comprise my dissertation focus on three key gaps in understanding and make three corresponding key contributions. The first research essay focuses on the transition from an emphasis on behavioral intention to mental acceptance in mandatory use environments. This essay contributes to the technology acceptance literature by finding that work process characteristics and implementation characteristics are exogenous to beliefs about the technology and that these beliefs are important to understanding mental acceptance as well in mandatory use contexts. The second and third research essays emphasize the transition from lean use concepts to conceptualizing, defining and measuring rich use behaviors and show that use must be captured and elaborated on in context. This is pursued through the development of two rich use constructs reflective of the sourcing work context and the complementary finding of countervailing factors in the work process that may impede the positive impact of rich use behaviors on job benefits.

Abstract:
Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) retail businesses in many countries, including Thailand, are facing challenges of high competition, as modern retail formats have grown rapidly in many Asian countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, China and Thailand (Howard, 2009). Thus, SME retail Businesses are facing an "innovate or die" situation, as non-adapting retail firms have always been and will continue to be driven out of the business (Evans, 2011). A new critical capability of retail business is the ability to configure and reconfigure its processes into a coherent blueprint - known in other words as a Business Model (Sorescu et al., 2011). The research question becomes "How can SME retail Business in Thailand successfully compete through Business Model Innovation?" Business Model Innovation requires system wide changes, since modifying one component always has network effects on other components (Tikkanen et al., 2005). There is no fixed method or successful formula that all companies will adopt; therefore disciplined experimentation and adaptation is recommended (Berman, 2011; Chesbrough, 2010; McGrath, 2010; Mitchell et al., 2003; Teece, 2010). However, most past studies on innovation are about large companies (Tim, 2004) and not many articles cover empirical studies on Business Model Innovation. In particular, few studies address the dynamic view (Demil and Lecocq, 2010; Svejenova et al., 2010; Sosna et al., 2010).This research focuses on the implementation of Business Model Innovation within SME retail business. The research uses a methodology called Action Research, and was conducted within the researcher's organization, which is a SME retail business in Thailand. This overcomes the practical challenges of studying SME business, which is related to limited opportunity to conduct empirical research. The study was conducted over the 4 year period from October 2010 to August 2014 by implementing Business Model Innovation in order to exploit opportunities in rural areas. Business Model concepts were employed as sources of innovation and units of analysis. Action Research consists of multiple cycles of changes and adaptation. It was found that Business Model concepts can be represented at different levels of abstraction from reality. At a high level of abstraction, the Business Model Canvas helps to understand the overview of the firm's business logic in a broad way, and provide ideas about what can be adapted. At the operational level, the Retailing Business Model provides a structural approach to the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of activities that support high level changes. In all, Business Model Innovation can be conceptualised as an ongoing learning process similar to the iterative cycles of Action research. These cycles consist of constructing actions, planning, taking actions and evaluating actions. The Business Model concepts at different levels of abstraction can be used for understanding and planning, as well as to capture learning experiences, both on the high level and on the operational level. Therefore, Business Model Innovation is a dynamic process where changes and learning happen continuously. Such a process enables SME retail businesses to improve their understanding of their Business Model and thus improve their chances of success?

Since the year of 2000, social enterprise had been gradually become the joint issues within the realms of Taiwan nonprofit organizational research and the practical fields, and this even surpassed the issue discussion for nonprofit organizational industrialization. The development and discussion for Taiwan social enterprises were primarily impacted by emerging European and US social enterprises. Social enterprises, both domestic and abroad, take the innovative approaches to seek the resolution methodologies for both the organizational and social problems along with historical evolvements and they serve as the locomotive for the social value creations. Social enterprises, integrated with commercial techniques and innate nonprofit organizational mission, are trying to secure the balance between the enterprise and the nonprofit organization statuses with the intent to realize the social service mission in a more flexible approach. This research adopted the “Aurora Social Enterprise Co. Ltd” as study case and employed the multidimensional model to construct social enterprise and proceeded to analysis on three dimensions include social mission, the environmental aspect and sustainability. It explored the practical experiences from study cases so as to understand the operational challenges and propose countermeasures for social enterprises. Furthermore, it illustrated how to realize the mission of social service. Also it was helpful to construct the fundamental concept of social enterprise as well as achieved the understanding for targeted research case by applying the method of literature review in the initial stage of the research. Then, it was followed with in-depth interviews to explore the execution difficulties and countermeasures for each individual case. Moreover, since the social enterprise also employed commercial technique to achieve the social purpose therefore this research also analyzed the social marketing strategies and technologies employed in each study case so as to understand how to better assist the organization to reach its preset goal. Findings of this research revealed that Aurora Social Enterprise Co. Ltd had been registered as company category and in view of related organization-- Manna Organic Life Association, which had operated to achieve the similar objectives in a corporation aggregate capacity but still under the constraint factors imposed by nonprofit organization management standards and financial constraints with the original expectation that it could pioneer and achieve the new path from social mission perspective through commercial behavior. Although the core members from these two organizations overlapped, the roles and functions were clearly distinguished them into two types like sales and counseling. In a practical aspect, it brought in compassionate organic certification which had been the “group authentication, singular verification” initially promoted throughout Taiwan in organic agricultural productions and distributions engaged by Aurora Social Enterprise. The overall operation promotion for Aurora Social Enterprise is really dependent upon the new leadership style, the spirit and aggressive attitude of this organization with further overcoming the challenges brought by organizational membership screening and the burden stemmed from operational risks. And the contents of the above mentioned included: vegetable quality control, logistics timing effectiveness and climate risks. In the overall, the innovative endeavors committed by Aurora Social Enterprise, although it originated from the evaluation of economical concerns, but it also took care of environmental protection, social value preservation therefore this could be attributed as a rather comprehensive social innovation on both scales of the thought and realization.

Social enterprise has been proved to be a new business model which can be expanded and can be developed sustainable. At the same time, the financial autonomy of social welfare organization has been improved. For example, in year 1976, Bangladesh Economist Muhammad Yunus developed Grameen Bank and England The Big Issue Magazine founder John Bird, the social enterprises build by these two social entrepreneurs are the best examples around the world. The enterprise has taken measures catering to the green trend. Domestic and foreign academes have conducted research focusing on green innovation, contributing to basic and applied knowledge. A number of factors need to be taken into consideration between vying enterprises while dealing with different situations at any time. While other industries are implementing creative innovation, the enterprise needs to fully understand green innovation and assess how to enhance the competitive advantage as it can support the strategy of the enterprise. In addition, technology is highly varied and competitive in this industry. In this respect, Taiwan places importance on the technology industry. As a matter of fact, one of the six emerging industries in the solar photovoltaic industry has gained the full support from the government. Therefore, exploring this industry can definitely contribute to the competition among enterprises in the green innovation. This research is a case study of an engineering firm that has early on implemented green innovation measures. Green innovation and competitive advantage factors related to structural analysis were identified and analyzed using DEMATEL. Such method can simplify an intricate system by comparing the relationship between green innovation and competitive advantage of the enterprise. Through a matrix, the direct and indirect causal relationship and the degree of influence by each criterion can be understood. The simple causal diagram analysis resulting from the research can point to enterprise implications. The study found out that the willingness to purchase of the consumers represents the crucial purpose why the enterprise conducts green innovation. The intention to purchase has increased owing to the introduction of a green product. Consequently, the enterprise is willing to choose green innovation as the top priority. On the other hand, enterprises were found to seek for creative innovation primarily to increase profit. By joining the green trend, improvements to the enterprise and enhancement of competitive advantage can be achieved.

The world is changing and the ethos of social enterprises makes them a legitimate and growing business model for the 21st century. The delivery of high quality service, with all the profit being invested back into the community, is a model that will become increasingly impossible to ignore. Tracy Axten, Head of Social Economy Banking, The Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest In a free market economy, price determines the optimal allocation of goods and services to its people. However, factors like monopolies, externalities, rent seeking behavior by private firms, and gross inequality in income distribution can lead to sub-optimal allocation of resources – some segment of the population are better off than others – leading to market failure (Phills and Denend). Market failure manifests itself when large segments of the population are unable to access basic needs like food, shelter, clothing or other needs like education and medical care. Private enterprises, driven by their profit maximization ethos, produce goods and services in quantities and prices can sometimes lead to a situation that leave these segments – generally the low income earners - unable to afford or access them. In a free-market economy, private businesses were rarely called upon (or expected) to respond to breakdowns in efficient market operations by modifying their behavior, such as taking on profitability and sustainability risks in order to serve these sectors of society. Traditionally, societies have looked to government intervention to correct these market failures through regulations or subsidies or the provision of these goods and services itself at below market-determined prices. Sometimes it is civil society that comes in to fill the gap in the market that private business is unable or unwilling to fill or when government intervention is inadequate, utilizing grants or donations, but which in recent years have become more stringent. Private businesses also recycle some of their profits through corporate social responsibility (CSR), which are often targeted, and whose scale have not been enough to generate large scale social impact. These efforts have fallen short of addressing these market failures thus leaving large sectors of society with unmet needs (Phills and Denend). Social enterprises have recently gained recognition as possibly providing more effective and sustainable solutions to so-called market failure. These new breed of enterprises use entrepreneurial skills and leverage market principles, just like ordinary business, but with one important difference ! they prioritize social impact over the creation of wealth. By shifting their emphasis from financial to social returns, social enterprises have been discovering and implementing new ways serving the needs of poor, disadvantaged, and neglected communities who have hitherto not been adequately reached by private business or government. The new business models that have been developed by social entrepreneurs expand existing markets, create new ones, increase competition that benefits consumers and generate new, more collaborative networks and ecosystem. This development promises strategies that could lead to long-term market based solutions to realize unmet social needs and reach the underserved segment of society. By “doing well by doing good” these new models address allocation inefficiencies without necessarily undermining the free market system (which subsidies or market regulation would have done). Through research and application of theory to real-life examples, this paper found that one crucial factor for this success stems from the approaches that the social enterprises’ employ to generate their business model - from which proceeds their business plan and organizational and operational strategy. These approaches are more sensitive to market signals, more human-centric and collaborative. They derive from the ethos of a social enterprise which is a factor of being: 1) established to solve a pre-existing social problem; 2) having a dual bottom line of social value and economic value; and, 3) driven by stakeholders’ interest rather than stockholders’. Purely for-profit businesses are also beginning to use these approaches to gain market share but primarily for profit. A compromise has led to the creation of hybrid enterprises where for profit and non-profit enterprises collaborate to service the market while remaining true to their respective reason for their existence. There are valuable lessons for private enterprise, government policy makers and civil society in their quest to develop a market-based ecosystem that benefits all sectors of society and leaves no one behind.

We are facing the globalized competitive market, creativity is the only way to surviving and maintaining competitiveness for every enterprise. By making products, offering service and changing business models with creation to attract more customers, which have become the primary goal of the enterprise. However, the concept of innovation should not only be imagined, it must takes practical actions to achieve those concepts step by step. This proposed dissertation builds an innovative process information system which convert innovative process to charts and analysis and this process is divided by five steps: definition、analysis、development、design、implementation. The goal of the work is to understand better how innovative initiatives are affected by various organizational environments, in this case, the innovation management process and innovation factors within a business. Innovative enterprises are growing quicker, have higher efficiency, and are more profitable than their less inventive peers. Such results indicate that the capacity of many companies to innovate and renew may be restricted due to either administrative incompetence, contradictory goals, mismanagement, or leadership skills in deficit. However, as competition in high-technology industries is pacing up within the innovation economy, modern industrial companies are under rising pressure to tune their innovation ability. The goal of this work is to better understand how innovative initiatives are affected by various organizational environments, in this case, the innovation management process and innovation factors within a business. First, the organizational structure of both methods is clarified, focusing on the management form, the organization's orientation towards innovation, team composition, and the process design of innovative projects, to illustrate the differences. Then the impact on the organization of the basic management process, the collaborative variables, and the results are illustrated and contrasted.

The social enterprise constitutes a new trend in our modern society and it takes more and more important places to serve social needs and solve specific social issues. The reality shows that these enterprises are using the internet to develop their networks, to seek opportunity, gather resources, communicate or find support around them. Many of these enterprises are using the internet through the development of crowdsourcing platform to connect people in order to obtain resources from them. Unfortunately, most of these platforms are only considering one way to do it rather than implementing a structure that could better serve them. If we could be able to build a platform which can encompass all the necessary needs for social business development, what would it look like? How could it work? Is this possible? In fact, it is what this research is actually doing. This paper first objective is to describe and explain the conception of an innovative crowdsourcing platform aiming to better connect a full range of resources and services in order to benefit to social enterprises’ activities.

Chunxia, Zhang. "The influence of entrepreneur's learning ability on enterprise innovation performance." Doctoral thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/22626.

Abstract:
All activities of an enterprise are directly or indirectly related to entrepreneur's individual capabilities. Entrepreneur's learning ability is the basis for enterprises to conduct organizational learning and innovation activities (Wu, Gao, and Wei (2007). Scholars and business practices alike have addressed the importance of entrepreneur's learning ability and its effect on innovation performance. This essential characteristic of entrepreneurs promotes resource integration and resource creation ultimately benefiting innovation performance. The main objective of this thesis is to study the influence of entrepreneur's learning ability on innovation performance and the mechanisms that may accelerate this effect, namely the mediating role of absorptive capacity and the moderating effect of market orientation and policy support. Based on comprehensive literature review a conceptual model was designed and six hypotheses are proposed. A pilot questionnaire was administered to 100 respondents to finetune the questions and the scales, and then distributed to 450 participants. After screening, 278 valid questionnaires were obtained. Regression analysis was then employed to test the path of entrepreneur’s learning ability, absorptive ability and innovation performance and the bootstrap method was used to test the mediation and moderation effects. Results show that entrepreneur's learning ability positively affects innovation performance which is consistent with Wu, Gao, and Wei (2007) and Nonaka, Toyama, and Nagata (2000). Meanwhile, absorptive capacity positively mediates the relationship between entrepreneur’s learning ability and innovation performance. Market orientation negatively moderates the relationship of entrepreneur's learning ability and innovation performance, which is consistent with Bennett and Cooper (1981). In addition, results show that policy support negatively moderates the relationship under study, indicating that this construct inhibits the positive impact of entrepreneur's learning ability on innovation performance.
