Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether knowledge management under its three dimensions of knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing and responsiveness to knowledge lead to innovation in Rwandan SMEs. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design to collect data used to examine that relationship. The results revealed that only knowledge sharing was found positive and significant predictor of innovation. This implies that effective knowledge management through knowledge sharing may lead to innovation. This study used a cross-sectional research design combined with a quantitative research approach. Future researchers could employ a longitudinal method to investigate any possibility of variations in the results. Qualitative studies could equally be used to supplement the quantitative findings. Lastly, this study focused on manufacturing SMEs only. Future research might focus on other types of businesses. Owners-managers of SMEs may sustain their competitive position and survive longer when knowledge is effectively and efficiently shared in order to increase their innovation capability. The study generated empirical evidence on less studied phenomena in the SMEs sector. The evidence highlighted the powerful influence of knowledge sharing in predicting innovation in SMEs.

Abstract:
Objective This paper aims to demonstrate that any suggestion that there is a need for specific innovation laws is flawed. Innovation is central to good medical practice and is adequately supported by current law. Methods The paper reviews the nature of medical innovation and outlines recent attempts in the UK to introduce specific laws aimed at ‘encouraging’ and ‘supporting’ innovation. The current legal framework is outlined and the role of the law in relation to medical innovation explored. Results The analysis demonstrates the cyclic relationship between medical advancement and the law and concludes that there is no requirement for specific innovation laws. Conclusions The law not only supports innovation and development in medical treatment but encourages it as central to a functioning medical system. There is no need to introduce specific laws aimed at medical innovation; to do so represents an unnecessary legal innovation and serves to complicate matters. What is known about the topic? Over recent months, there has been a great deal of discussion surrounding the law in the context of medical innovation. This was driven by the attempts in the UK to introduce specific laws in the Medical Innovation Bill. The general subject matter – negligence and the expected standard of care in the provision of treatment – is very well understood, but not in cases where the treatment can be described as innovative. The general rhetoric in both the UK and Australia around the Medical Innovation Bill demonstrates a lack of understanding of the position of the law with regards to innovative treatment. What does this paper add? This paper adds clarity to the debate. It presents the law and explains the manner in which the law can operate around innovative treatment. The paper asserts that medical innovation is both supported and encouraged by existing legal principles. What are the implications for practitioners? The paper presents an argument that can guide the policy position in this area. It also provides clarity around the legal position and expected standard of care for those who are introducing innovative medical treatment.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is tax incentive that is a part of the process of innovative activity. Taxation is viewed as a tool for advancement of innovations. The experience of foreign countries demonstrates that government support in the form of funding, tax incentives, government subsidized loans, and creation of essential infrastructure play a big role in modernization processes. Expansion of the practice of implementation of tax incentives for stimulating innovations requires a theoretical comprehension of this process. This article examines the coefficient that characterizes economic effectiveness of tax incentives as correlation of separate indexes of innovation activity of recipients and benefits from tax spending. Assessment is conducted on the effectiveness of tax incentives in accordance with the data on innovation activity and tax revenue from different sectors that are leaders in the innovation sphere. The following conclusions were made: tax mechanism of stimulating innovation activity are not very popular and effective; precision of calculation is significantly affected by the current issues with the information base: complete absence of information with respect to stimulus recipients; the results of analysis demonstrate that the rate of increase of decreasing budget revenue surpasses the rate of growth that characterizes innovation activity of the taxpayer that testifies to the insufficient effectiveness of the provided tax incentives, prompting suggestion of new means for stimulation of tax incentives. The author proposes to amend statistical tax report, highlighting the information on the entire range of existing tax incentives. Consideration and control over rationality of tax incentive mechanisms would allow optimizing the list of tax incentives for innovation activity, as well as expand the list of sectors that use such incentives.

Abstract:
The aim of this article is to address some of the questions Dr. Paula S. Nurius presents in her article, Innovation and Emerging Scientific Careers: Is Social Work Prepared to Compete in Today‖s Scientific Marketplace? Specifically, this article will focus on what we can do to better prepare our emerging research scholars to be successful innovators through trans-disciplinary training and educational activities. This article recommends two main ideas. The first main idea is that social work co-host meetings, lectures, roundtables and trainings with disciplines we do not tend to collaborate with, in order to build inter-disciplinary partnerships. The second suggestion is that students are socially integrated, via extensive interaction of outside disciplines, through customized semester-long rotation style trainings. By implementing these suggestions, we will be providing a space for our doctoral students to gain an understanding of how different disciplines‖ researchers, technologies, and/or methods can add to their ability to produce innovative ideas, encouraging creative and complex thinking and problem solving.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this study is identifying and ranking the various antecedents or enablers that will enhance performance through employee suggestion schemes (ESSs) in various sector-specific businesses based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an emerging Arab country.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to prioritize the factors affecting ESS. The AHP model was developed with five criteria and 24 subcriteria based on the interactional theory of organizational creativity. Data were collected through interviews with 27 top-level managers and industry experts from nine government agencies, nine semigovernment agencies, and nine privately owned UAE-based businesses.FindingsThe findings show that leadership support and management style, individual attributes, and corporate strategy are the most important factors that influence performance through ESS.Research limitations/implicationsThe research model had limited dimensions and the findings cannot be generalized. To generalize the findings, the study should be carried out in other GCC countries because of homogeneity in the political, organizational, and sociocultural context. The outcome of the study provides both organizational and managerial implications for the better organizational performance through ESS.Originality/valuePast studies on ESS have neglected the construct of individual characteristics of employees that generate novel ideas. This paper addresses the gap of sector-specific studies by considering that individual attributes of creative people as individuals are the heart of innovation, along with contextual factors that could help organizations to transform innovative engines through ESS. The originality of this research stems from a reliable and valid framework that can be subsequently used for driving performance through ESS. This study is a relevant contribution to both the academic literature and practical implications.

This research deals with the effects caused by the search for innovation from all the people of the organization, particularly the possibility of the organization becoming innovative, understood as capable of systematically producing innovations of any nature and magnitude. This issue is relevant because innovation from all the people of an organization, practically has not been studied by the experts in innovation. Although much approached by the movement of quality in the theme of continuous improvement via kaizen type suggestion systems. The denomination Horizontal Innovation was created by the author to designate the innovations that originate from all the employees of the organization, usually from internal programs of suggestions. Internal feedback systems basically produce incremental innovations, called by quality experts as continuous improvements. Some authors have in the past presented the theory that incremental innovations compete with radical innovations. In contrast, the concept of ambidexterity was created whereby innovative organizations produce both radical and incremental innovations. The present research was based on a single case study of a company from a mature sector (metallurgy) that practices Horizontal Innovation (from all people). Eighteen managers, all four executive directors, ten managers, two general coordinators and two retired researchers were interviewed. The result indicated that the organization is a systematic innovation, having created an ambidextrous innovation management model that systematically produces incremental and radicals innovations, of product, process and management.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to extract and provide practical knowledge and examples from both theory and practice in order to clarify some practices that can be used in the implementation of open innovation. It can be of interest for whomever willing to gain an insight into the practical features of open innovation and for companies considering, or struggling with the implementation of open innovation. The study was approached with a qualitative and interpretive method. Secondary sources were used exclusively to review the practical aspects of open innovation in theory and practice. Open innovation practice at Nokia Corp. and the Procter &amp; Gamble Company were researched and reported using studies of other authors as well as the companies’ own publications. The classification of open innovation practices in contemporary literature is not sufficient to provide an understanding for the various types of open innovation practices that can be applied and used in practice. A classification based on types of activities is presented by the authors, and practical suggestions regarding design and implementation concludes the thesis.

Abstract:
The supplying of engineer-to-order joinery products to the construction industry is a novel research area in both the wood-related and the construction-related fields. The process of supplying the construction industry with highly refined one-of-a-kind wood products is here examined in order to explore possible process innovations to identify factors contributing to inefficiency, to define areas for innovation to improve industry performance, and to evaluate 3-D sensing technologies as a way of achieving a model-based joinery production. The organizations studied use a mixture of concept-to-order and design-to-order production strategies to produce what in this thesis are called engineer-to-order joinery products. The main consumer of the engineer-to-order joinery products are theconstruction industry, an industry that has been criticized for not keeping upwith other production industries in terms of quality, cost efficiency, innovation, and production methods. The development of Lean production principles andsupply chain management are innovations commonly suggested to increase the degree of industrialization in the construction industry, and this is reflected in the research approach adopted for the work described in this thesis. The conditions for supplying engineer-to-order joinery products to theconstruction industry have been studied and areas for innovation efforts aresuggested. The primary research question has been: Can new technology and new management methods be applied to improve process efficiency and efficacy in the supplying of engineer-to-order joinery products? Lean principles and 3-D sensing are two perspectives chosen to investigate this supply process. The study has used both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with a slight overweight towards the qualitative methods, as the context for the quantitative research has always been in focus. Real-world case studies have been used for the empirical data collection. The results suggest that there is a significant potential for increasing efficiency and efficacy through: greater focus on cross-organisational innovation focusing on higher levels of industrialisation, new forms of contractual relations, supply chain cooperation, improved knowledge-transfer and information management, developing competence on 3-D sensing and “BIM”-modelling, and through organisational consolidation.<br>Godkänd; 2016; 20160413 (samuelfo); Nedanstående person kommer att disputera för avläggande av teknologie doktorsexamen. 碩士<br>銘傳大學<br>公共事務學系碩士在職專班<br>98<br>ABSTRACT In order to improve the government’s efficiency and increase the quality of citizen service, Taiwan’s government will implement a step-by-step plan. There are three core values: to continually boost citizen satisfaction, to guarantee citizen’s rights and freedom of information usage, and encourage government departments to create innovative and complete services. The “government service quality award” will be decorated to the department that best fulfills these qualities. Every government department in the nation has continually supplied innovative services such as complimentary tea and water, drive-through services, all-in-one customer assistance, and a full range of on-line services in hopes of creating a flexible and innovative government. Government officials throughout Taipei’s district offices were used as research candidates in this study. Out of 1330 surveys, the respondent rate was 74.5%. Complete surveys amounted to 979, which account for 71% of the total. This research used a number of statistical analysis such as percentages, normal distribution curves, T-test, single factor variance analysis, Pearson statistical analysis, and regression analysis to test the hypothesis of this study. This study’s main points: 1. Leadership behavior is a positive influence on innovative abilities, whether it is organizational, managerial, or technological. 2. Leadership behavior and organizational culture are positively correlated, whether it is supportive-oriented, active-oriented, or conservative-oriented culture. An overall organizational culture, which includes supportive-oriented, active-oriented, and standard procedure culture are positively correlated with overall organizational innovation culture, which includes technology innovation and managerial innovation abilities.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中山大學<br>傳播管理研究所<br>99<br>The number of cable TV subscribers in Taiwan is nearly 6 million. According to all kinds of statistics, the popularity rate of cable TV should be over 80% if those who watch cable TV without paying are included. The rate is estimated to be higher in metropolitan areas. In recent years, the media industry in Taiwan has been rising and flourishing, especially TV media. Watching TV is the most frequently chosen activity for entertainment in Taiwan families. However, when cable TV system is used to receive, transfer, and transmit wireless and satellite TV, or is applied by using the bandwidth of cables, can “Self-production cable channel” planned by Business Plan also play the role of the media in TV channels? Restricted by the area division of operating cable TV, the customers of cable TV system operators are community residents. The overall operation has a lot to do with the communities. Self-production cable channel is the local TV station. With emphasis on local cultures in Taiwan, does cable TV system plan the context for local cultures to be the text related to local life, culture and history, especially for southern Taiwan that is short of “care” from TV media for a long time? Can “Self-production cable channel” provide the locals with some media functions in suitable time and meet the requirements of communities? For cable TV system which is short of economies scale, what is the operation mode of “Self-production cable channel”? And what are the elements affecting developments? Most of the internal studies related to cable TV emphasize on exploring engineering technique, operation effect, business strategy, subscription fees, subscriber satisfaction, and channel plan, and so on. Studies related to Self-production cable channel are rarely seen. Thus, the three purposes for this study are as following: 1. Explore the role and function of Self-production cable channels. 2. Analyze the development model and elements affecting the development of Self-production cable channels. 3. Seek for the possibilities to creativity of Self-production cable channels and give suggestions. To explore the development model of Self-production cable channels in Kaohsiung city, this study uses data mining technique, interview survey, and case study, and the interviewees include officials, industries, experts and scholars, and community representatives. Besides, literature review, data collection, value chain theory, diamond model, and SWOT Analysis are also used to assist in analyzing. By analyzing Self-production cable channels in Kaohsiung city, 5 conclusions are generalized: 1. Self-production cable channels are defined as the local media, and it produces materials based on communities. 2. The system operator keeps working, but the support is limited. 3. The goals and missions for Self-production cable channels are various. 4. Crisis exists in self-approval and other-approval. 5. Overall marketing of Self-production cable channels is not active enough. According to the result, suggestions to Self-production cable channels are as following: 1. Clear Definition: Non-profit TV station 2. Human Resources: Core element of organization 3. Enhance the brand, content, service value: Key to the creative development 4. Government Policy: The strongest promoter

Bruno Trentin. Lavoro, libertà, conoscenza takes into consideration the figure of Bruno Trentin (1926-2007) and his work as a union leader and politician, his numerous writings in the framework of the history of Republican Italy and the transformations induced by the processes of globalisation. From this reflection, conducted from different disciplinary angles and with different political and cultural sensitivity, what emerges clearly is the extremely idiosyncratic significance of Bruno Trentin in both the practice and the theoretical analysis of the labour struggle and the exploration of its problems. A historic contribution featuring a wealth of suggestions, intuitions and reflections, capable of interpreting events and their potential union and political repercussions, within a project for the enhancement of liberty and the social and cultural role of work conducted in an extraordinarily innovative and far-sighted manner.

Abstract:
Cosa hanno in comune gli studi raccolti in questo volume, su autori così disparati come Conte, Palazzeschi, Zanzotto, Caproni, Rosselli, Biagini, alcuni poeti crepuscolari, Leopardi, Annovi, Giuliani, e perfino certe traduzioni novecentesche di R.M. Rilke?

Abstract:

Abstract:
Based on the general argument that culture plays a key role in linking creativity to innovation, this chapter provides a cultural explanation toward the innovation paradox in Hong Kong—high in creativity but low in innovation. Specifically, we explore how time orientation, as a less explored cultural dimension, could affect Hong Kong’s social norms and collective behaviors in translating creative potentials into viable innovations for business. Through an in-depth indigenous study on its entrepreneurial activities and ecosystem, we explicate the consequences of time orientation on the situation of crouching innovation in Hong Kong. This chapter concludes with suggestions to turn the vicious cycle of innovation into a virtuous cycle by igniting the self-propelling innovation process in the society.

Abstract:
This chapter provides an extensive review of the existing empirical literature that analyses the impact of (mostly high-skilled) migration on the innovative performances of firms, regions, and countries. The authors discuss the different features of the immigrant labour force, such as education, occupation, age, and internal ethnic diversity, that play a role in the contribution of immigrants to innovation. By categorizing the existing studies on the basis of the definition of innovation and migration that they adopt, as well as on the specific level of analysis chosen (at the firm, regional, or country level), the chapter also engages in an in-depth discussion about the policy implications that can be drawn from the existing evidence. Finally, the chapter outlines some suggestions about the implementation of appropriate immigration policies, able to truly foster innovation in European countries.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on Jack L. Walker’s 1969 paper “The Diffusion of Innovations among the American States,” which analyzes the phenomenon of diffusion as well as interdependent decision-making in a collective setting. The chapter summarizes Walker’s arguments and the reception of his work in, and its influence on, the field of political science. It then considers the research questions posed, such as why some states act as pioneers by adopting new programs more readily than others, and whether there are more or less stable patterns of diffusion of innovations. It also revisits Walker’s debate with Virginia Gray with regards to the latter’s seminal study “Innovation in the States: A Diffusion Study.” The chapter offers some suggestions on the future progress of diffusion scholarship and its potential to redefine our understanding of politics and policy.

Abstract:
Little attention has been devoted to the impact of corporate governance practices on firms’ innovative performance. This chapter reviews the literature to show that there is theoretical ambiguity. There is the argument that corporate governance and new forms of finance realign managers’ interests, with greater efficiency for all types of investments. However, some argue that innovative R&amp;D has distinctive characteristics, like high risk and long-term horizon, that may modify the efficiency effect. The issue has generated many studies where the long tradition of positive relationships between governance and efficiency is now contrasted by some recent empirical evidence suggesting a negative relationship. The chapter argues that shareholder primacy or owner activism in corporate governance and new forms of finance represent a potential mismatch with innovation.

Abstract:
AbstractThe world of AI offers new opportunities for companies and is therefore of particular interest to entrepreneurs at potentially every level impacting their business. The following article therefore tries to classify the roles of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on the strategic level and their influence on business models. By means of case studies, current business practice will be examined to give entrepreneurs and researchers an understanding of this technology, by providing practical examples so that they can pursue their own AI path. The analysis is based on case studies that examine the role of AI in a company’s business model, both for new market participants in the form of start-ups and incumbents such as the tech giants. By means of case studies, both sides of the extremes are covered in order to provide a picture of the scope of the applications. Insights from these case studies are processed to develop a classification scheme of the influence of AI on business models. Furthermore, the interaction of the different innovation possibilities of AI is compared and with that the importance for the innovative power of companies. Additionally, strategy types are developed on the basis of the presented classification scheme, but give entrepreneurs a suggestion for their own AI path in terms of AI applications to consider. Further, research could consider the influence of the presented AI roles in business models, especially the AI-driven business model is of interest here.

Abstract:
AbstractGovernments across the world have imposed strict rules on social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19. In particular, restaurants have been impacted by government-mandated lockdowns. This study adopts a mixed methods approach to explore how Finnish high-profile restaurants used Instagram as a means for service innovation and diffusion during nine weeks of government-mandated lockdown. Comparatively analysing 1,119 Instagram posts across two time-stamps (2019 and 2020) and across 45 restaurants, as well as conducting five semi-structured interviews with restaurant managers, it is found that while the overall number of Instagram posts and likes on posts stayed relatively similar to the year prior, the number of comments increased significantly, suggesting a move towards a more didactic and dyadic form of Instagram communication. In addition, four digital service innovation strategies are identified: launching new service offerings and introducing new elements to existing service offerings, fostering social relationship with customers, exploring novel streams of revenue, and reinvigorating the brand’s image. Implications to service innovation theory and practice are discussed, along with suggestions for future research.

Abstract:
In July 2019, participants gathered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, for an event organized by RTI International called Trust in Science. Our goal with the Trust in Science event was to foster collaborations and strengthen connections between nonprofit and funding organizations to address trust-related challenges that are affecting science and scientists. Collaboration between professionals and organizations is easy to cite as an abstract goal but can be challenging to pursue in practice for various reasons. Participants generated and considered both broad challenges and specific contexts in which trust has been strained. We discussed, for example, the use of wearable technologies for data collection, vaccine acceptance, biofuel research, survey research on topics such as sexual harassment monitoring, tools to help people navigate online information, and the development of physical spaces for local community discussion about science and technology. We offer an overview of key themes and ideas that emerged from our interactions. We hope that readers will consider this an open-source set of suggestions for future initiatives and innovations.

Zhang, Yangjun. Unsettled Topics Concerning Flying Cars for Urban Air Mobility. SAE International, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/epr2021011.

Full text
Abstract:
Flying cars—as a new type of vehicle for urban air mobility (UAM)—have become an important development trend for the transborder integration of automotive and aeronautical technologies and industries. This article introduces the 100-year history of flying cars, examines the current research status for UAM air buses and air taxis, and discusses the future development trend of intelligent transportation and air-to-land amphibious vehicles. Unsettled Topics Concerning Flying Cars for Urban Air Mobility identifies the major bottlenecks and impediments confronting the development of flying cars, such as high power density electric propulsion, high lift-to-drag ratio and lightweight body structures, and low-altitude intelligent flight. Furthermore, it proposes three phased goals and visions for the development of flying cars in China, suggesting the development of a flying vehicle technology innovation system that integrates automotive and aeronautic industries.

Abstract:
This policy brief examines how co-management arrangements within small-scale fisheries can play a key role in enhancing sectoral and regional resilience. Despite major challenges, “multi-stakeholder collaborations” - such as co-management - demonstrate the potential for innovative knowledge transfer and strategic adaptation processes within the fisheries sector. The focus here is on Co-management Northern Bohuslän (Samförvaltning Norra Bohuslän), which promotes sustainable local fisheries and blue growth on Sweden’s west coast. The case illustrates how, under appropriate conditions, participatory local efforts can significantlycontribute to sustainability and resilience. The policy brief presents findings on related challenges and opportunities, including recommendations on future directions for the co-management initiative itself, and more general suggestions for co-management as a means to promote sectoral and regional resilience in the Nordic region.
