Abstract:
The practice-led research is concerned with the changes to the material vocabulary available to the glass artist as a result of developments in technology. Many stained glass artists continue to use a one hundred year old vocabulary in the production of works for contemporary buildings. In this research programme, the potential of a relatively new material - dichroic glass - is explored and an appropriate aesthetic developed. Dichroic glass is selected as focus in the research due to its unique qualities of reflection and transmission of specific wavelengths of light. Thin films technology has

The recent earthquakes in Turkey have shown the poor seismic performance of reinforced concrete. This led to widespread utilization of several strengthening methods, each of which is convenient in different aspects. However, what is required to apply any of these methods is to evacuate the building in question since the interruptions are mostly within the building and to the structural members. This study proposes a method for external strengthening of typical five storey reinforced concrete buildings that represent the majority of the built environment in Turkey. Technological innovation in architecture can often be attributed to the work or works of individual designers and their unique (tacit) working method. Through an analysis of my published work (articles, essays, edited, coauthored and authored books), I will present how the aberrant creative process which the economist Joseph Schumpeter described as the ‘innovating entrepreneur’ can enlarge the palette of technological possibilities for the architect and define a unique role within the construction industry. The published works survey and explore atypical and innovative technologies and working

Abstract:
The importance of understanding changes in the underlying architecture of complex systems has been well established, both in the academic and practitioner literature. Though existing research has made significant advances, important issues remain. Generally, existing research on architectural change has tended to overlook the interplay between environmental and firm-level drivers. In particular, relatively few studies have looked at the challenges firms face in making architectural design choices, and contingencies arising out of architectural change. As such, empirical evidence on this relati

Past decades have witnessed the rapid advancement of new technologies, the development of new business models, and the evolution of cohesive organisational cultures. These factors have transformed the business environment in such a way that firms must collaborate and compete globally and seamlessly. Being able to promptly adapt to a changing environment by engaging in innovation is thus vital for all levels of business enterprises to stay competitive and even to survive in their particular industry. Such a statement also applies to the construction industry, where innovation is not only a sour

Tipiche applicaz

In January 2005, President Bush announced the Vision for Space Exploration. This vision involved a progressive expansion of human capabilities beyond Low Earth Orbit beginning with a return to the moon no later than 2020. Current design processes utilized to meet this vision employ performance based trade studies to determine the lowest cost, highest reliability solution. The methodology implemented in this dissertation focuses on a concurrent evaluation of the performance, cost, and reliabilities of lunar architectures. This process directly addresses the top level requirements early in th
