La tesi analizza i rapporti tra Inquisizione e magistrature secolari della Repubblica di Venezia per un arco cronologico che copre il XVIII secolo (un periodo ancora poco frequentato dagli storici dell’Inquisizione). Il problema principale era quello di indagare i rapporti tra le due sfere, ecclesiastica e laicale, in un’ottica tesa a ricostruire l’assetto istituzionale del Sant’Uffizio. Le controversie, articolate su diversi livelli – dai conflitti sui casi specifici, alle vertenze istituzionali – hanno fornito un terreno fertile per indagare come agivano e si rapportavano le parti in causa.
