Insider threats--trusted members of an organization who compromise security--are considered the greatest security threat to organizations. Because of ignorance, negligence, or malicious intent, insider threats may cause security breaches resulting in substantial damages to organizations and even society. This research helps alleviate the insider threat through developing mitigation strategies and detection techniques in three studies. Study 1 examines how security controls--specifically depth-of-authentication and training recency--alleviate non-malicious insider threats through encouraging secure behavior (i.e., compliance with an organization's security policy). I found that `simpler is better' when implementing security controls, the effects of training diminish rapidly, and intentions are poor predictors of actual secure behavior. Extending Study 1's finding on training recency, Study 2 explains how different types of training alleviate non-malicious insider threat activities. I found that just-in-time reminders are more effective than traditional training programs in improving secure behavior, and again that intentions are not an adequate predictor of actual secure behavior. Both Study 1 and Study 2 introduce effective mitigation strategies for alleviating the non-malicious insider threat; however, they have limited utility when an insider threat has malicious intention, or deliberate intentions to damage the organization. To address this limitation, Study 3 conducts research to develop a tool for detecting malicious insider threats. The tool monitors mouse movements during an insider threat screening survey to detect when respondents are being deceptive. I found that mouse movements are diagnostic of deception. Future research directions are discussed to integrate and extend the findings presented in this dissertation to develop a behavioral information security framework for alleviating both the non-malicious and malicious insider threats in organizations.

Analyses in the past have revealed that flute sound production is a complex procedure involving internal movements of the body. The larynx and pharynx in particular play a crucial role. Some authors, advocate for the abdominal muscles, while others, draw attention to the lips and the oral cavity. However, despite the various studies, the physiology of flute playing is limited by lack of empirically-derived information about what happens when a player carries out musical tasks. The present study is an empirical investigation of the role of the larynx and pharynx in flute playing from the perspective of a flute specialist. Specifically, the study aims to determine vocal fold involvement in vibrato, epiglottis movements, arytenoids and epiglottis involvement in articulation, and glottal aperture in tone and dynamics production (soft to loud, loud to soft). A detailed analysis of the relationship between standard flute techniques and the larynx and pharynx mechanisms is presented, making a significant contribution to the flute pedagogical literature. Two male and three female experienced players (referred to in the study as “the participants”) participated in a video-nasendoscopy procedure. The behaviour of the participants’ larynxes and pharynxes while playing a performance protocol specifically designed for this research was observed by a qualified speech pathologist. Specifically, the observer analysed true vocal fold adduction, false vocal fold adduction, laryngeal height, pharyngeal space, epiglottis movement, and arytenoid adduction. This study reveals that laryngeal/pharyngeal participation in flute playing is not limited to vibrato production or specific techniques, such as singing and playing or flutter tongue (tongue rolling effect while playing). The larynx plays a major role in producing flute tone and dynamics and should be considered by pedagogues, performers and health specialists. These findings can assist flute professionals in their daily practice, performances and teaching. Knowing the role of the larynx in vibrato, articulation, pitch control, and dynamics control, reveals a new tool for flute players to use with assurance when preparing any piece of the standard repertoire, or teaching a student.

This thesis investigates exchanges between poetry and criticism through the work of contemporary writers who seek to interrogate the boundaries between these discourses. Rather than conventional poetics or manifestos these poets are producing poetry that actively explores the tenets of their critical thinking, using hybrid forms to challenge perceived boundaries between practice and theory, art and criticism. In rethinking the nature and function of poetry while challenging critical conventions, this work has implications for both modes of writing. Itself a hybrid of poetry and theory, a fusion of critical and creative writing, the thesis enacts a performative investigation of this scene of writing.

The research presented in this thesis is an explorative study into the basic concepts and the effects of dance movement psychotherapy (DMP) intervention on the attunement behaviours of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). From a retrospective analysis of positively evaluated single cases of DMP with ASD participants, movement markers of interpersonal relating behaviours have been formulated in terms of Social Engagement and Attunement Movement (SEAM) behaviours. These were organised into an observation scale, and used subsequently to generate nominal observation data on the behaviours of a small sample of children with ASD. Evaluation with the SEAM observation scale yielded a significant increase of SEAM behaviours in the course of the dance therapy. Retrospective analysis of the actions of the therapist throughout four single cases of DMP with ASD participants yielded a specific approach that was described as Shared Movement Approach (SMA). SMA has been specified as an improvisation based method of DMP that takes the child's interpersonal attunement and engagement behaviours as cues for the therapist to accommodate her interventions, so that the child's interpersonal relating behaviours are facilitated and supported. Through her kinaesthetically informed interventions the DMP therapist contributes to an increase of interpersonal engagement and attunement by the ASD participant from within the shared movement actions. The SEAM observation scale was explored on conceptual clarity and consistency in a group of independent movement analysts, and interrater agreement was used as an indication of its contents validity. An interval rating procedure with the SEAM scale yielded the best results on interrater agreement as expressed in Cohen's kappa. The Shared Movement Approach and the SEAM observation scale were then tested for replication of outcome on SEAM behaviours within four repeated single subject cases in a pilot study in a Dutch outpatient clinical setting. The outcome monitoring yielded the replication of increase of interpersonal relating behaviours as measured with the SEAM observation scale. Within subject therapy outcomes, although diverse in their individual profiles, were found to be significant when analysed with non-parametric tests. Group averages showed a significant increase of SEAM behaviours. The effects beyond therapy were evaluated with the somatic and social sub-scales of the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL) and the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), showing individual differences and a significant problem reduction on average. The outcomes as experienced by the juvenile participants were evaluated with the somatic and social sub-scales of the Youth Self Report (YSR), which on average showed a significant decrease of experienced social and somatic problems. The results obtained are discussed in view of current theories on experiential approaches and concepts for psychotherapy with an ASD population.

This thesis provides the findings of an explanatory case study that utilized
elements of ethnographic research to discover effective evangelistic methods
being practiced among Palestinian Muslims in the West Bank. With the
assistance of gatekeepers, twenty-four former Muslims were asked to explain
how they were evangelized, with a particular focus on evangelistic methodology,
the barriers to faith the respondents encountered, solutions to those barriers, and
motivations to consider conversion.
This qualitative study follows the research model of Thom Rainer (2001) by
asking those who have actually converted to describe the things that were helpful
in the process of their coming to faith. For a theoretical framework it utilizes a
nuance of McKnight’s (2002) theory of conversion with an emphasis on crisis
providing an intersection of the natural and supernatural for the purpose of
conversion.
This thesis investigates examples of effective evangelism within the context of
the West Bank, giving thorough consideration to Palestinian Nationalism and
Islam as overarching cultural influences. It considers fruitful practices being
practiced globally among Muslims, comparing those with what was found being
practiced in the West Bank. The advocates represented in this report were
primarily Palestinians born and raised in the West Bank, with the exception of
three messianic Jewish Israelis and an American missionary. Additionally, they
were evangelicals who generally utilized a contextually sensitive, traditional
mission approach rather than an Insider model. The end result is a knowledge base that can be helpful for future evangelism

Through its ability to create images of non-representable incidents animation expands the range and depth of what documentary can represent and how. This master thesis investigates the potential of animated documentary within social memory exemplified by the interactive animated documentary Saydnaya – Inside a Syrian Torture Prison (Forensic Architecture, 2016). By applying a feminist spatial approach, I aim to contribute to the understanding of the role of animated documentary images within social memory.Embodied and haptic spectatorship as well as haptic materiality are crucial in this case study due to the nature of the virtual screen images and interactive navigation (compared to montage) of the architectural 3D model. Testimonies and evidence presented in documentary film require a discursive establishment of truth. Indexicality is discussed in this regard and eventually a theoretical shift towards movement suggested. I demonstrate that Saydnaya extends the strategies in animated documentary that have been in focus so far, such as representing mental states and subjective experiences, by deploying methods of forensic aesthetics. This opens up novel ways to establish truth claims and persuasion in documentary filmmaking that require future research.

The main focus of my PhD studies was aimed at understanding the general mechanism of nuclear translocation and isolating novel components of the nuclear translocation pathway in neurons. Using the Drosophila visual system as an in vivo model to study nuclear motility in developing photoreceptor cells (R-cells), I have identified a novel role for the Ser/Thr kinase Misshapen (Msn) and the endocytic trafficking pathway in regulating the nuclear translocation process.<br>The development of R-cells in the Drosophila eye disc is an excellent model system for the study of nuclear motility owing to its monolayer organization and the stereotypical translocation of its differentiating R-cell nuclei along the apical-basal plane. Prior to my thesis work, several laboratories had identified dynein and its associating proteins in R-cell nuclear translocation, however nothing was known about the signalling pathway that controlled their function in nuclear migration. Thus, one of my thesis goals was to elucidate the signalling mechanism controlling nuclear translocation in R-cells.<br>Using a combination of molecular and genetic approaches, I identified Msn as a key component of a novel signalling pathway regulating R-cell nuclear translocation. Loss of msn causes a failure of R-cell nuclei to migrate apically. Msn appears to control R-cell nuclear translocation by regulating the localization of dynein and Bicaudal-D (Bic-D). My results also show that Msn enhances Bic-D phosphorylation in cultured cells, suggesting that Msn regulates R-cell nuclear migration by modulating the phosphorylation state of Bic-D. Consistently, my results show that a Bic-D-phosphorylation-defective mutation disrupted the apical localization of both Bic-D and dynein. I propose a model in which Msn induces the phosphorylation of Bic-D, which in turn modulates the activity and/or subcellular localization of dynein leading to the apical migration of R-cell nuclei.<br>In addition to studying Msn, I have also searched for additional players in R-cell nuclear migration. From a gain-of-function approach, I found that the misexpression of the GTPase-activating-protein (GAP) RN-Tre caused a severe defect in R-cell nuclear migration. Since mammalian RN-Tre is involved in negatively regulating Rab protein activity, I speculated that the RN-Tre misexpression phenotype reflected a role for Rab-mediated vesicular transport in regulating R-cell nuclear migration. I systematically examined the potential role of Rab family proteins in R-cell nuclear migration and found that interfering with the function of Rab5, Rab11 or Shibire caused a similar nuclear migration phenotype. I propose that an endocytic pathway involving these GTPases is required for the targeting of determinants to specific subcellular locations, which in turn drive the apical migration of R-cell nuclei during development.

A segunda onda do Movimento Feminista no Brasil emergiu em um contexto de combate à Ditadura. E surgiu em São Paulo como possibilidade de reforçar mais uma frente de luta contra o governo militar. Mas o feminismo ainda era uma novidade pouco conhecida até por aquelas que se declaravam como feministas. Era rechaçado pelos segmentos mais conservadores da sociedade, mas também pelos militantes da Esquerda revolucionária. Estes o consideravam fora de tempo e lugar. Ao impulsionar o movimento social, o feminismo no Brasil reapareceu em meados da década de 70 enfrentando a questão do poder externamente, na sociedade e no Estado, e internamente, no próprio Movimento de Mulheres. Os vários grupos que compunham o campo em que se afirmava o feminismo disputavam o controle do Movimento de acordo com os referenciais tradicionais de poder. E, ao mesmo tempo, buscavam alternativas de gestão do movimento que fugissem daqueles modelos. Ora porque assim as circunstâncias impunham, ora porque assumiam as críticas elaboradas pelo feminismo à natureza patriarcal e autoritária do poder tradicional. As contradições que o Movimento de Mulheres abrigou punham em jogo as posições de todas as suas ativistas, inclusive das próprias feministas. Fazia com que reexaminassem os seus papéis sociais e constatassem as suas condições de oprimidas. Construir as identidades feministas significava romper com os cânones estabelecidos para o ser mulher que haviam aprendido. Assim como implicava assumir-se como sujeito de suas lutas.<br>The second wave of the Feminist Movement in Brazil emerged in the context of fighting the Dictatorship. And it arose in São Paulo as a possibility to further enhance a battle front against the military government. Yet feminism was still a little known novelty even by those who declared themselves as feminists. It was rejected by the more conservative segments of the society, and also by supporters of the revolutionary Left, who regarded feminism as out of place and time. By propelling the social movement, feminism reemerged in Brazil in the midseventies facing the issue of power both externally, regarding the society and the state, and internally, inside the Women\'s Movement. The various groups comprising the field where feminism was grounded vied for control of the Movement in accordance with traditional references of power. At the same time, those groups sought alternatives to manage the movement, thus trying to escape from those conventional models. And this was because either the circumstances imposed, or because the groups adopted the Feminisms critique regarding the authoritarian and patriarchal nature of traditional power. The contradictions harbored by the Women\'s Movement put at stake the position of all its activists, including the feminists themselves. They were led to re-examine their social roles and to face their condition of oppressed beings. Building feminist identities meant breaking with the established canons that they have learned regarding what is to be a woman. The construction of the feminist identity also meant to become the subject of their own struggles.

This dissertation examines Insider Movements, a missiological strategy where adherents of a high-religious system retain their socio-religious birth identity as a means of preventing extraction, thereby aiding the evangelistic and church planting task by keeping the social and family network intact. The strategy has produced a significant amount of controversy related to appropriate degrees of contextualization and the dangers of syncretism. The purpose of this dissertation is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of an Insider approach, critique the theological and methodological elements of Insider Movements, and evaluate its ability to produce orthodox, Bible-believing, and Christ-exalting believers and churches. This dissertation takes the position that Insider methodology as currently articulated is biblically weak and methodologically unwise. Chapter 1 introduces a short history of the development of the Insider conversation, identifies the central problems surrounding the conversation, defines terminology, and outlines the trajectory of the study.
Chapter 2 traces the development of Insider methodology in an attempt to present a clear and complete picture of the arguments raised by Insider proponents. The relationship of Insider Movements to People Movements and Church Planting Movements is investigated. This investigation is followed by an identification of the missiological problems in evangelism and church planting in high-religious contexts. The literature and conferences proposing the missiology that led to the C-Continuum are identified.
Chapter 3 deals with the biblical and theological foundation of Insider methodology. Kraft's concept of revelation and the Bible as "God's inspired case-book" is proposed as an unstated presupposition of Insider methodology. Moreover, the theological concepts of fulfillment theology and the kingdom of God are identified as the central arguments supporting Insider methodology.
Chapter 4 introduces the central missiological concepts supporting Insider strategy, starting with the model of critical contextualization and followed by a critical interaction with the central missiological proposals utilized in Insider strategy.
Chapter 5 is an attempt to assess the "wait and see" proposal of Insider advocates through an historic case study of Sadrach Surapranata's community in central Java, Indonesia. In addition to providing an example for how one particular community developed in terms of identity, orthodoxy, and orthopraxy, a number of helpful lessons related to contextualization and missionary partnership are presented as balancing comments for the Insider conversation.
The final chapter concludes with summary thoughts, proposals, and areas of future research and dialogue.

This thesis addresses two important issues necessary to understand whether insider trading
should be prohibited: the effects of insider trading on stock prices and the compensation to insiders
for providing information and other related services. This task is accomplished by analyzing stock
price changes during corporate takeovers, before and after the regulatory changes in the 1980's that
were designed to reduce the level of insider trading.
In this thesis, we develop an indirect measure of insider trading that shows how observable
stock price movements during takeovers allow one to make inferences about changes in insider
trading after regulatory changes. Specifically, we show that when inside information is partially
revealed to the market, the effects of regulatory changes on insider trading can be identified by
examining the price movements of stocks around takeover announcements. If, however, information
is not revealed at all or is fully revealed, it is impossible to identify the effects of regulatory changes
on insider trading.
We also develop a segmented diffusion model to analyze price movements characterized by
cumulative abnormal returns during the period surrounding a takeover announcement. An
econometric model is developed to estimate the segmented diffusion model. Naturally, this
methodology applies to the study of various events in addition to corporate takeovers and regulatory
changes.
We conduct empirical analysis to test three hypotheses. With regard to Hypothesis I, we find
strong evidence that the tightening of insider trading regulations in the 1980's was effective and that
inside information was partially revealed to the market. With regard to Hypothesis II, we find
evidence that insider trading regulations have more effect on negotiated takeovers than on takeovers
initiated by bidding. With regard to Hypothesis III, we find weak evidence that insiders associated
with acquiring firms seek fewer but more profitable takeovers after the introduction of tighter
regulations.

Winnipeg’s climate produces variable and extreme weather conditions, which can pose challenges for people wishing to spend more time outdoors. This practicum’s design builds on the Assiniboine River as a natural attractor and encourages people to spend more time outside.
Relationships of architectural inside and outside are investigated and strategies to connect inside and outside are identified and applied in analysis of directly experienced projects. Those strategies together with a specific landscape vocabulary are the basis for the final design concept and examples. The design vocabulary and strategies are adapted to the quality of each site and support movement between the city and the river in all seasons.

Since the dielectrophoretic (DEP) force is proportional to the gradient of the square of electric field, 3-D design could extend the electrodes into the microchannel and provide the electric field inside the entire microchannel. In this study, we used an array of microneedles along with ITO glass to form the 3-D electrode pairs. The results show that, at lower particle concentration, the fluorescent particles aggregate faster at the tips of microneedles and the fluorescent intensity reaches the maximum in 10 seconds when only the tip of microneedles is conductive. AC electro-osmotic flow is observed at the lower frequency. As the particle concentration increases, an array of the pearl chain-like structure can be formed. Although the pearl chain-like structure can be formed when using the plane electrode, the distribution is not uniform.

Dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies.<br>This research study explores different methods and technologies to simulate travel inside an IVE that contains videos from several different locations. From the most adequate method and technology, a prototype is developed and evaluated. The videos are static, meaning that each video was recorded on a single location, and the orientation an coordinates doesn't change. We want to simulate the travel between two different locations. The video of a location is called a task, and the travels are called transitions. Using information gathered from previous studies and using the available technologies, this document will create a prototype of travel transition for our IVE. Finally, we are going to evaluate a tour composed of tasks and transitions on a group of test users to assess the quality and usability of the transition prototype. The prototyping and evaluation are based on the crucial quality and usability factors concerning our custom IVE system.

In post-conflict settings real and imagined boundaries do a great deal to determine who is inside and who is outside of state-based narratives of peace and prosperity. Based on case studies in Rwanda and Northern Ireland, I provide an analysis of the post-conflict periods and the impact of neoliberal-styled governance on the dynamics of power. I argue that as power shifted, ‘peace’ also entailed a general social pacification, and prosperity equated to greater private profit. However, top-down social engineering has not contained the entire field of social struggle. I examine micro-level interventions taking place on the margins of mainstream discourse that trouble the moralizing state-narratives that seek to legitimate structural violence. Such spaces facilitate alternative values and practices that contribute to sustained social and cultural resilience, as well as forms of resistance.
Post-conflict Rwanda and Northern Ireland have been impacted by both coercive and consensual forms of social engineering. In Rwanda, state-based framework laws and forceful regimes of local implementation rely on stark contingencies of reward and punishment to shape and control behaviour in the public sphere. In Northern Ireland, the power-sharing structure of the Belfast Agreement has reinforced ethnic politics, while depoliticizing and instrumentalizing civil society in support of its neoliberal policies.
I present ethnographic research and interviews conducted with community organizations in Northern Ireland (Ikon) and Rwanda (Student Association of Genocide Survivors - AERG) that demonstrates how alternative discourses and practices are emerging in the cracks of these top-down systems. I explore Ikon’s use of creative performances and radical theology to create socially resonant cultural spaces that function as temporary autonomous zones. These TAZs unsettle aspects of individual identity while intentionally seeking to destabilize mainstream power dynamics. Unlike Ikon, AERG faces greater public scrutiny and higher political stakes. They demonstrate an adherence to the dominant social script in the public sphere, while exhibiting micro- level agency through trauma healing, and material support in private day-to-day practices. AERG’s performance in the public sphere creates temporary spaces of encounter that exceed the boundaries of official discourse, making their alternative presence felt while remaining illegible to the dominant surveillance frameworks.<br>Thesis (Ph.D, Cultural Studies) -- Queen's University, 2014-06-02 11:02:09.033

The Islamic religion has become a challenge to Christianity due to its rapid growth around the world today. Christianity and Islam are both devising strategies on how to reach out to each other with their conflicting messages. Christian missiologists have come up with several approaches of doing Mission to the Muslims. However, because of the Islamic practices and beliefs that vary in different contexts or from place to place, some of the approaches are not effective in some areas. The nature of the cultural context has more often made it progressively difficult for the Christian churches and missionaries to do Mission among the Muslim countries, including those at South Coast of Kenya, the Digo folk Muslims.
The call for a suitable understanding of an evangelism approach among the Digo folk Muslims is an essential concept for an effective Mission to them. There is no doubt that in Digoland, there is still a great challenge in evangelising the Digo people. Even though currently there is a good number of un-indigenous churches in this area, the problem remains that the Digo Muslims have not effectively responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ at large. It is also clear that the evangelism approaches that the Christian churches are using have not been effective.
This thesis analytically examines evangelism approaches to Mission among the Digo folk Muslims by seven selected Christian churches from different denominations in the South Coast of Kenya. The study investigates the effectiveness of the evangelism approaches, which these churches are using with the Digo folk Muslims in sharing the gospel. Mostly using data collected from oral interviews, the study finds that Mission involvement to Digo Muslims is slow and not as effective as evidenced by the small number of the Muslim background believers in the selected churches. The churches and the Muslim background believers face challenges that include fear due to threats from the Muslim community as they perceive the Christians as adversaries who are stealing their members. Moreover, the few Muslims are, at times threatened with death. The churches also face challenges from the lack of effective training in Muslim evangelism in context including the financial constraints for Muslim Mission in the area.
The research concludes that significantly, there is a need for the selected churches to reexamine and reconsider their evangelism approaches to Digo folk Muslims with a view to improving their ways of engaging in sharing the gospel with them. Finally, the study formulates and proposes a practical biblical model for effective Mission to these Digo Muslims.<br>Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology<br>D. Th.
