Abstract:
Defatted egusi flour offers a food option high in protein and essential micronutrients. An instant processing method was adopted in a ready-to-eat instant soup using egusi grit, hydrocolloid, and defatted flour. A D-optimal quadratic mixture model was used to study the effect of the independent variables (grit, flour, and hydrocolloid) qualities. The quadratic model was adequate to navigate the design space for taste and appearance. The numerical optimization for appearance and taste of instant soup (IES) was used to obtain the optimal soup mix of 10 g of hydrocolloid, 57.2 of defatted flour and 17 g of grits. Sixteen trace and five major mineral elements were found in the egusi soup, with a high concentration of phosphorus (1220.4, 1326.2 and 1277.9 mg/100 g), potassium (1220.4, 1326.2 and 1277.9 mg/100 g), magnesium (822.2, 905.3 and 863.70 mg/100 g), calcium (172.3, 190.9 and 183.4 mg/100 g) and iron (53.7, 57.5 and 29.5 mg/100 g), and for instant egusi soups from boiled egusi grit (IESBG), instant egusi grit from spherified grit (IESSG) and instant egusi grit from extruded grit (IESEG), respectively. The amino acid profile of instant egusi soup offers all essential amino acids necessary to nourish the body. Phosphorus content was significantly (p ≤ 0.05) high across the three soups: 1742, 1836 and 1838 mg/100 g for IESBG, IESSG, and IESEG, respectively; IESSG and IESEG were significantly (p ≤ 0.05) higher in minerals when compared with IESBG. Instant egusi soup differed significantly (p ≤ 0.05) in lightness (L*), while the redness (a*) and yellowness (b*) did not vary significantly.

Background: Instant pumpkin cream soup enriched with tempeh had fulfilled 10% Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for elderly so that it can be used as an easy-to-serve snack, but decreasing quality of instant cream soup will be happened if the instant cream soup was stored for a long time. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze quality of water content, water activity and lipid oxidation in instant pumpkin cream soup during storage and estimated the shelf life of pumpkin cream soup enriched with tempeh.Method: Quality storage was analyzed using of water content, water activity (aw) and lipid oxidation. Estimation of shelf life was analyzed using Arrhenius Accelerated Shelf Life Testing (ASLT) model.Results: The results showed that the water content, aw levels and lipid oxidation of instant pumpkin cream soup increased during the storage period. The critical parameter used in this study was lipid oxidation. Instant cream soup without the addition of tempeh can last 447 days while the cream soup with the addition of tempeh has a shelf life of 433 days.Conclusion: Quality of instant pumpkin cream soup decreased during the storage period and it would be expired over a year.

Utilization of duck eggshells made in the form of flour as a mixture of food products including instant soup. Ingredients that can be used as instant soup are sweet corn. Instant corn soup has good nutrition and distinctive characteristics. So, instant corn soup can be enriched in its nutritional content (calcium) by adding calcium from duck eggshell flour. The purpose of this research is to find out the Organoleptic characteristics (color, flavour, texture and taste) instant corn soup enriched with duck eggshell flour. This research uses RAL method which consists of 5 treatments, namely the addition of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% duck eggshell flour which is then analyzed. The results showed instant corn soup enriched with duck eggshell flour had a different effect on the addition of eggshell flour, the sensory properties of the most preferred taste was 5%.

Meat protein hydrolyzate can be used as an ingredient in making instant cream soup. The application of mutton protein hydrolyzate as an ingredient in making cream soup has never been done. The purpose of this study was to develop instant cream soup products from goat meat hydrolyzate as a functional food product prototype, and to know the characterization of instant cream soup in terms of its physical and chemical properties. This research is an experiment with a completely randomized design, with replications 3 times. The treatment is the addition of goat meat protein hydrolyzate which consists of 6 levels, namely, 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% 1.0% and commercial cream soup as a comparison. Data on physical properties and chemical composition were analyzed statistically by diversity analysis. The results showed that the addition of goat meat protein hydrolyzate at different concentrations was able to increase bulk density and pH value and reduce the water binding capacity of instant cream soup produced. The addition of goat meat protein hydrolyzate at different concentrations increases the water content and protein content, decreases the carbohydrate content of instant cream soup, but does not affect the ash content and fat content. It can be concluded that the addition of goat meat hydrolyzate to 1% produces instant cream soup with the same pH value and water binding capacity as commercial cream soup products and produces higher protein content than commercial products.

Background and Objective. Scald burns are a major cause of pediatric burn injuries. Instant soups have been identified as one source of these injuries. This study aims to quantify and characterize these injuries in pediatric patients. Methods. Ten-year query of National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database identified instant soup- and noodle-related scald burns in children aged 4 to 12 years. Data included patient demographics, injured body part, case narratives, and emergency department disposition. Results. A total of 4518 cases were identified, yielding an estimate of 9521 cases/year in the United States. Younger children were affected more than the older. Trunk was the most commonly burned body area. Approximately 10% of injuries required admission or transfer for further care. Conclusion. Instant soup and noodle products are a common cause of pediatric scald burns, potentially injuring 25 children per day in the United States and leading to high rates of health care utilization.

This study was conducted with the development of instant fish soup mix and finding out the effect of fish powder on it. Ingredients of soup mix were cooked and dried up to desired moisture content. The drying or dehydration was done by using a mechanical dryer (Cabinet dryer) at constant air flow rate and constant temperature with varying thicknesses. After drying the dried products were ground to make powder. These were then mixed with desired composition. Here fish powder was varied in composition in different samples and it was 5%, 10% and 15% in Mix-1, Mix-2 and Mix-3 respectively. For preparing soup mix was reconstituted with boiled water. The result of organoleptic test was determined by ANOVA and DMRT analysis to find out the best sample. (Mix-2) was adjudged to be the best by the panelists using 1-9 hedonic scale and ranked as “like very much” securing score 8.0 which containing 10% fish power. Various instant foods for the elderly began to be developed. Binte biluhuta is an indigenous nusantara soup from Gorontalo with the main ingredient are corn and skipjack. The unique characteristic of soup is potential became special food that can be served for elderly, how ever the calcium content that is very low and the presence of oxalic acid still being abstacle. Fish bone was a natural source of calcium. The research objectives were to design special nutrient instant food for elderly based on binte biluhuta indigenous food from Gorontalo enriched with fish bone nanomineral. The research included calcination of fish bones at a temperature of 600 ?C for 6 hours and reduced the size with nanomilling became nanomineral. Binte biluhuta cream soup was designed according to the Recommended daily intake (RDI) of the elderly. Characteristics quality was determined in order to develop microwave cooking. Particle size of nanomineral catfish bone was 70-100 nm, white color and contained 852000 ± 15.08 mg/Kg calcium, phosphorus 146300 ± 43.89 mg/Kg and magnesium 4410 ± 0.44 mg/Kg. Binte biluhuta instant cream soup with rasio of corn and fish 15: 1 served using microwave cooking and fortified 0.84 g nanomineral fish bone from 30 g binte biluhuta instant cream soup, contained 57470.39 ± 57.87 mg/Kg amino acids and 1.08 ± 0.06 mg/Kg oxalic acid. Binte biluhuta instant cream soup as much 30 g can fulfilled the needs of elderly calcium 51.47% and energy 88.65 Kcal.

Instant soups are preferred by consumers for their flexibility in preparation and longer storage life. Extrusion cooking is one of the recent developments reported to improve nutrient content of soups. However, little information is available regarding use of extrusion cooking in development of banana vegetable soups. This study investigated the use of extrusion cooking in production of instant banana-vegetable soup. The moisture content was varied using a chicken broth prepared from chicken wings and spicy vegetables (thyme, rosemary, parsley, etc.) to improve flavor and acceptability of the extruded product. The mixture of Banana : Amaranths: pumpkins : mushrooms : carrots =40.84:40.84:9.24:3.76:5.34 was extruded at different moisture content (10–20%) and barrel temperature (100-180°C) and the effect on product responses; reconstitution potential, vitamin A retention, vitamin C, total fat among other parameters were investigated at constant screw speed (45Hz) and feed rate (50 Hz) to produce an instant banana-vegetables soup. The optimum extrusion temperature and moisture were 123.3oC and 10.122%, respectively. The optimal product had a mixture formulation of 60% extruded flour and 50% vegetable flour with chicken level at 16.6%. The overall acceptability score, fiber content, fat content, ash content, vitamin C and vitamin A values of the optimum flour were 7.1, 6.8%, 11.2%, 4.92%, 19.4 g/100 g and 1.21 mg/100 g, respectively.

The use of egusi melon in soup has been domesticated and egusi has predominantly been regarded as a secondary crop. The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional characteristics of egusi seed (Citrullus lanatus subsp mucosospermus) hydrocolloid and oil in instant egusi soup. An instant production of egusi soup by adding boiling water to an instant soup mix will promote the availability of this nutritious seed as a healthy meal option. Egusi oil was successfully extracted from egusi seed using supercritical carbon dioxide method. The percentage oil yield which measures the amount of oil derivable from egusi seed ranged from 46-53% w/w. There was a significant difference in the oil yield as pressure and temperature are increased at a constant CO2 flow rate of 30 g/h. The proximate composition of egusi oil was determined using standard AOAC method. The moisture contents were 1.3, 2.0 and 1.9% w/w, respectively for EO1 (60oC and 450 bar), EO2 (55oC and 600 bar) and EO3 (75oC and 600 bar). EO1 was significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lower in moisture content compared to EO2 and EO3. The fat content was 99.1% w/w (EO1), 98.3% w/w (EO2) and 98.9% w/w (EO3), with no significant difference in the three oil samples. The fatty acid composition was analyzed using gas chromatography. The fatty acid content of egusi oil was high in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, which was identified as linoleic (62%) and oleic (15%) acids. The saturated fatty acid (undecylic, myristic, palmitic and stearic) composition of egusi oil differed significantly (p ≤ 0.05) with EO1, having the lowest compared to EO2 and EO3. The index of atherogenicity (IA %) were significantly low 0.35, 0.38 and 0.38% w/w for EO1, EO2, and EO3, respectively. The thrombogenicity index (IT %) were 0.08, 0.09 and 0.09% w/w for EO1, EO2, and EO3, respectively with no significant difference. Peroxide Value (PV) measured using auto titrate Titrino plus, ranging from 11.60 for EO1 milliequivalents peroxide/kg to 12.60 for EO2 and 11.89 milliequivalents peroxide/kg for EO3. The oxidative stability index (OSI) was measured using Methrohm Rancimat at 120°C, expressed as the induction time of oxidation was 10.2, 11.5 and 5.3 h for EO1, EO2, and EO3, respectively, with E03 significantly higher than EO1 and EO2 (p ≤ 0.05). The iodine number, determined by AOAC direct titration method was high and ranged from 95 g/100 g for EO1 to 129 g/100 g for EO3, with EO3 being significantly high (p ≤ 0.05). The nutritional and functional properties of defatted egusi flour and hydrocolloid extracted using supercritical carbon dioxide extraction was also successfully achieved. Proximate analysis of defatted egusi (DEF) flour after supercritical extraction was carried out according to standard AOAC procedures. The moisture content of DEF ranged from 5.3 to 10.1% w/w, crude protein 48.3 to 60.4% w/w, crude fibre 3.4 to 4.5% w/w) and ash 5.3 to 6.8 % w/w). The protein content of defatted egusi flour differed significantly (p ≤ 0.05) between samples. The amino acid compositions of DEF showed glutamic acid had the highest concentration of 12.9, 11.8 and 9.8 mg/100 g for DEF1, DEF2, and DEF3, respectively with a significant difference (p ≤ 0.05) across the samples. In functionality, the water absorption and solubility index at a low temperature of 50oC ranged between 52.5 to 57.6% w/w and 68.0 to 73.3% w/w respectively for DEF1 to DEF3, which significantly differed between samples. The final viscosity of defatted egusi flour ranged from 126.7 to 126.3 cP, which differed significantly (p ≤ 0.05) between samples. Egusi flour is high in protein 60% w/w and carbohydrate 25% w/w was treated with hot water to extract its hydrocolloid. Functional properties of egusi hydrocolloid for the three defatted flour shows a stable emulsifier as the breakdown viscosity remained constant at (8.00 cP). Breakdown viscosity of egusi hydrocolloid confirmed its stability.

Des fluorures de graphite ont été préparés à température ambiante en présence de F2-HF-MFn, MFn étant BF3 ou un fluorure de chlore préparé à partir de Cl2 ou de KCl, puis traités thermiquement sous fluor. La synthèse a également été réalisée sur un micropilote en vue d'une industrialisation. Afin de mieux comprendre le comportement des matériaux lors d'utilisations comme lubrifiant solide et comme cathode dans des piles au lithium, ces composés ont été caractérisés. La DRX a permis de déterminer la structure des composés. L'identification et la quantification des espèces intercalées ont été réalisées par RMN 19F, 11B et 1H, et par RPE. La covalence de la liaison C-F a été évaluée par RMN 13C et InfraRouge. Ce travail a permis d'obtenir une large gamme de matériaux aussi compétitifs que ceux déja connus et commercialisés pour les applications citées

Nous étudions dans cette thèse deux voies pour résoudre plus efficacement les problèmes d'optimisation combinatoire exprimés dans le cadre génétique VCSP (Valued Constraint Satisfaction Problem), extension du cadre CSP (Constraint Satisfaction Problem) pour l'optimisation. La première voie concerne la recherche de nouvelles méthodes globalement plus performantes par la coopération entre méthodes complètes et méthodes incomplètes. Nous proposons en particulier une nouvelle méthode hybride dédiée à la résolution de VCSP en contexte interruptible et la comparons aux recherches locales standards. La seconde voie concerne la recherche d'outil d'aide à la décison permettant d'utiliser une méthode adaptée à chaque situation, c'est-à-dire adaptée à l'instance à résoudre et au temps imparti à la résolution de cette instance. Nous proposons tout d'abord une adaptation de la méthode proposée par Knuth en 1975 afin d'estimer le temps de résolution des méthodes complètes de type séparation et évaluation. Nous envisageons ensuite une série d'application potentielles pour cet estimateur. Nous proposons notamment la méthode SPP (algorithm Selection by Performance Prediction) capable de sélectionner, instance par instance, l'algorithme le plus performant parmi une base d'algorithmes complets. Nous terminons ce mémoire par quelques voies permettant d'étendre cette méthode à une construction automatique d'algorithmes complets "optimisés" pour chaque instance.

Recent developments in embedded systems give robots access to the Internet and make them more flexible and capable of performing more complex applications. However, these robots are still limited in terms of size, CPU power, storage resources and memory. Consequently, these robots have only been manufactured for certain specific applications and cannot be re-used for other applications. This presents us with a challenge to design a software framework - Robot Colony. The Robot Colony enables robots to be suitable for a wide range of applications, not originally received from manufacturers, to achieve greater functionality, flexibility and utility. This research outlines the architecture and functionality of the Robot Colony to support the collaboration between devices in the P2P community and also analyse the JXTA platform, which was the framework originally proposed. Lastly we present a customized P2P architecture that specifically addresses the interaction betweensoftware components across the network. We further discuss the following technologies applied in theframework: * XML-based Directory Service Provider * HTTP-based publish/describe control commands * Remote Process Invoke To fully complete the project, a thorough evaluation of the framework based on either the JXTAplatform or the customized P2P channel has been conducted. This evaluation provides basic statistics data for the proposed framework design and implementation. Further more, we have presented a realtime Demo at the Smart Device lab of the Queensland University of Technology.

Abstract:
In 13th century Europe, the German bishop and scholastic philosopher Albertus Magnus was one of the most influential writers on the natural world and theology. This thesis investigates the relationship between humans and animals in his Quaestiones super de animalibus and De animalibus. In writings on medieval history the theologically enforced boundary between humans and animals is both emphasized and treated as a given. This study nuances the picture presented by previous scholars by highlighting an alternative natural philosophical discourse on humans and animals. Using discourse analysis, I argue that the differences that Albertus used to differentiate humans from animals were based on an understanding of similarities rather than opposites. To Albertus, the human was one species in the animal kingdom, thus sharing many basic functions with other animals. His understandings entailed a theory of essential differences between species but also allowed for divisions based on gradation and relativity. This study sheds new light on the complex relationship between humans and animals in medieval Europe.

AbstractIn June 2015, four multi-stakeholder platforms (Sanguie, Zondoma, Soum, and Association Yiye) were established in different regions of Burkina Faso to promote agricultural activities. By 2018, more than 200 farmers had already been trained on different aspects of the cowpea value chain including grain production, storage, and food processing skills. The platforms played a key role in the dissemination of new cowpea varieties through demonstrations, field days, the mass media, and social media. About 160 demonstrations were established by the members of the platforms every year from 2015 to 2018. Each platform was supported to produce 10 ha of certified seeds making a total of 40 ha each year and 160 ha during the four-year period. Due to the demand for foundation seeds that was increasing year after year in Burkina Faso and the inability of INERA to produce enough seeds, the most successful platform members were contracted by the INERA Seed Unit to produce foundation seeds in order to meet the high demand in the country for certified seed production. Although there are no official statistics about certified seeds produced in Burkina Faso in terms of demand, recent happenings have shown their increased production. For instance, in 2018 about 1000 tons of certified seeds were produced compared to previous years which had less than 700 tons.

This chapter aims to examine Sophie of Hanover’s original, but often overlooked contribution to the debate over the soul–body relationship. It explains that her main interest is in problems pertaining to the influence of bodily motion on the soul, for instance how the mother’s physiological imagination has an impact on the development of the foetus or how ideas are caused by material determinations. It also argues that Sophie remains sceptical of any metaphysical explanation in the domain of rational psychology, for instance of the Leibnizian hypothesis of pre-established harmony. For a similar reason, I contend that it is very unlikely that Sophie would maintain a materialistic conception of ideas, as commentators have argued.

Corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs) such as martensitic and duplex stainless steels (DSS) are used as a flow line material in corrosive wet gas environments (i.e., carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide environments). A new DSS which consists of 25mass%Cr - 5mass%Ni - 1mass%Mo - 2.5mass%Cu has been developed for line pipe usage in slightly sour environments. There are several methods currently being used to install offshore oil and gas pipelines. The reel-lay process is fast and one of the most effective offshore pipeline installation methods for seamless, ERW, and UOE line pipes with outside diameters of 18 inches or less. In the case of the reel-laying method, line pipes are subjected to plastic deformation multiplication during reel-laying. Thus, it is important to understand the change of the mechanical properties of line pipes before and after reel-laying. In this study, full-scale reeling (FSR) simulations and small-scale reeling (SSR) simulations were performed to investigate the effect of cyclic deformation on the mechanical properties of the new DSS for line pipe. Furthermore, investigation of the most susceptible temperature range to cracking and sulfide stress cracking (SSC) tests were performed in slightly sour conditions.

Several sour gas leakage accidents have occurred in the offshore platform during the past decades, such as the Kab 121 platform in 2007, which caused serious consequences mainly resulting from the lethal toxicity of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Under the threat of H2S, it is a challenge to exploit resource in the sour gas filed. Especially during the drilling operation, an abrupt blowout or kick could bring huge amount of H2S, envelop the platform and disperse in the cabins. The present paper is aimed at introducing our analysis of H2S dispersion both in the outer deck and inner mud treatment cabin so as to fully assess the potential poisoning during well blowout. The method we chosen was computational fluid dynamics according to the spatial environment characteristics of the offshore platform. First, we drew a comparison between accident consequences deriving from the wellhead configurations of an opened bell nipple and a sealed rotary blowout preventer (BOP) in the outer deck under various wind directions and speeds. The instantaneous concentrations and hazard zone distributions show that the second configuration is much better from the view of accident control. And the accident severity is much lower when the wind blows from the larboard, not from the prow for both configurations. As a result, the potential hazard zone would not envelop the entire platform with suitable platform position and arrangements of the mud return ditch, accommodation, helicopter deck et al. Then, the simulations of H2S dispersion in the mud treatment cabin were conducted in case of the closed outlet doors, opened outlet doors and sealed cabin with air ventilator working. An immediately dangerous to life level may come up in a short break with the door closed. In such a dangerous situation, H2S can only be made to disperse to other areas through the opened door or effectively ventilated away by means of a ventilator. It is a good practice to isolate the cabins with the potential H2S leakage and install ventilator. And a simple model was proposed to calculate the working time for the ventilator.

The fatigue performance of pipeline or riser girth welds is often a critical factor during design. Under corrosive conditions the detrimental influence of an environment on anticipated fatigue lives needs to be taken into account. Fatigue design codes provide advice for the case of loading in seawater at typical wave frequencies, but in other environments, or at other cyclic loading frequencies, the required approach is less certain, and laboratory testing is often needed to provide suitable guidance. In addition to the time and expense of such an exercise, in some cases there are physical limits to the nature of data that such programmes can provide. The provision of data associated with very low cyclic loading frequencies is one such case, as in this instance the time taken for each test becomes unmanageable. This leads to the need for extrapolation of test data into the region of interest, for instance by carrying out tests at either a higher cyclic loading frequency, or a higher stress range, than that anticipated in service. Such extrapolation requires careful consideration in order to avoid potential non-conservatism. It is suggested that the availability of a model which accounted for the influence of these two key parameters (frequency and stress range) would greatly improve confidence when extrapolation is needed, and more broadly would provide a rational basis for designing experimental testing programmes and applying determined data to pipeline design. Such a model should be based on a description of the perceived underlying mechanisms of a material’s interaction with the environment. This paper provides a review of relevant test data and describes the basis for such a model. A generalised framework is developed and fitted to numerous published test data for carbon steels in seawater or sour environment.

Abstract:
Due to its high metallic confinement, the annulus of unbonded flexible pipelines is a specific and mild corrosive medium for carbon steel armour wires. This environment presents high supersaturation levels of dissolved iron, leading to pH values far above thermodynamic equilibrium. Furthermore, the permeation of acidic gases (such as CO2 and H2S) through the polymer pressure sheath occurs at very low flow rates. Since the annulus is supersaturated with dissolved iron, part of the H2S is consumed as it slowly arrives into the annulus. Therefore, the annular medium contains low levels of gas far below those predicted by standard thermodynamic models, and less H2S is available to trigger sour cracking. The recent development of harsher oil field conditions (higher water depths, increased CO2 content, presence of H2S...) induced the need to refine the design of flexible pipes to propose more cost effective solutions. As pH and H2S content are key parameters for the selection of steel grades, taking into account the supersaturation and the H2S consumption in the annulus allows major optimization of flexible pipes by using for instance steel grades with higher strength. Therefore, extensive experimental work was conducted over the past years to better characterize the annulus and predict more realistic pH and H2S levels. In this paper, the following developments are presented: – A kinetic corrosion model named FlexCor was derived from numerous corrosion tests done at various CO2 pressures in confined configuration, with in-situ pH monitoring. These tests were performed over long durations (3 months) in order to capture the effective long term supersaturated pH. The kinetic model is able to simulate the transient and stationary phases of the supersaturated pH evolution up to 45 bara of CO2, providing a good fit with the experimental data. The tests also demonstrated that the annulus environment remains supersaturated even at high CO2 partial pressures. – A methodology taking into account the H2S consumption was developed based on extensive long-term small scale and full scale testing (> 2 years), where low flow rates of H2S were imposed. The experimental results show that H2S consumption is far from negligible, even when the annulus is not fully flooded. This H2S consumption methodology was certified by an Independent Verification Agency and is now being applied on commercial projects.
