Abstract:

Abstract:
The “forest fire 2020” program of Canton Ticino The Canton of Ticino has a long-lasting experience in facing forest fires. As a result, a tradition in forest fire documentation and analysis exists and the forest fire management approach is continuously reviewed and improved with the aim to preserve the forest protection functions and to keep the mountain areas safe for the inhabitants. The fire regime has been reduced in Ticino since the seventies of last century thanks to improvement of the firefighting organization and fire control techniques (e.g. systematic use of helicopters for the aerial fire control) and the possibility of declaring a total fire ban in the open. However the demand in terms of protection of human lives and goods of the modern society is raising and as consequence of the climate change fire risk may increase in the future. For this reason two years ago the forest service of Canton Ticino developed the “forest fire 2020” program, in collaboration with the cantonal fire brigades association and the federal research Institute WSL. The program consists of four interdependent activity modules, which are 1) prevention, 2) organizational and technical measures, 3) firefighting and control, 4) burnt area restoration. The forest service is responsible for the fire-danger rating, the fire-ban release, the mentoring of local authorities in forest management questions and for planning pre-suppression facilities (e.g. water points for helicopters). It is also responsible for defining the mission rules for aerial firefighting, for collecting the data for the statistics, and for planning the post-fire forest restoration measures. The fire brigades are in charge of the firefighting tasks, by first intervening with the urban fire brigades and in case of need requiring the support of specialized forest-fire brigades. During the firefighting actions the forest service takes a consulting role. The first two years of implementation confirmed the suitability of the “forest fire 2020” program. Potential improvements have been however detected and are under implementation, such as the completion of the pre-suppression infrastructures, a better coordination between aerial and terrestrial firefighting and the strengthening of the specialized forest-fire brigades.

Abstract:
The attack of the chestnut blight (Cryphonectria parasitica) on chestnut coppice stands on the southern side of the Swiss Alps started to take on epidemic proportions in 1948. At the time, catastrophic experiences in America raised fears that it would lead to the total destruction of the chestnut. In consequence a wide-ranging transformation programme was initiated in the canton of Tessin. For want of relevant practical experience all promising species were planted using the then existing planting and silvicultural techniques for systematic, high-quality wood production. However, the existing infrastructure did not allow for a detailed control of expenditure for the measures taken. Starting in 1973, within a teaching-forest project, the Institute of silviculture of the ETH Zurich made control possible. In this report we present and analyse the measures applied to 17 parcels of land, nine of which were transformed and eight afforested. From today’s point of view the total cost was disproportionately high, sometimes more than 1500 hours per hectare in the first 15 to 20 years. Taking developments in wood prices and forest management costs since then into consideration we conclude that indiscriminate planting is not to be recommended, especially in view of the fact that the chestnut blight turned out to be relatively harmless thanks to the phenomenon of «hypo-virulence». Finally, we discuss alternative silvicultural measures for chestnut coppice stands.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of the technological analysis of the Teshik-Tash grotto lithic collection from the Kunstkamera funds (Saint Petersburg). Because the Teshik-Tash industry has an indisputable anthropological link to the Neanderthal population, which is unique for the western part of Central Asia, it is important to fully characterize the technological repertoire of this hominin species by studying the Teshik-Tash collection. Using the methods of mathematical statistics, the metric parameters of the artefacts were analyzed and the technical and typological homogeneity of the Teshik-Tash site complex (layers 1–5) was established, which indicates the representativeness of the sample at our disposal. The applied scar-pattern analysis revealed the dominance of the radial core reduction method aimed at obtaining non-standardized asymmetric blanks. At the same time, the toolkit contains the points with signs of Levallois knapping to obtain blanks: symmetry, regularity of convergent or longitudinally convergent dorsal surfaces, the presence of convex symmetric dihedral butts, overhang reduction. Thus, the problem of the Levallois component in the Teshik-Tash grotto industry remains open. The extent to which the Neanderthal population of Teshik-Tash used the Levallois technology will probably become clear after analysis of the Teshik- Tash grotto collections, stored in the funds of the Anuchin Research Institute and the Museum of Anthropology of MSU and the State Museum of history of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The research results of maize hybrids of different maturity groups (FAO 199–399) during 2018–2020 in the conditions of the South-Western part of the Forest- Steppe of Ukraine are presented. 54 domestic registered and perspective hybrids of selection of various research institutions of Ukraine (SE Institute of Grain Crops NAAS, Plant Production Institute named after V. Ya. Yuriev of NAAS, Selection and Genetics Institu-te – National Center for Seed Production and Variety Studying, National Research Center Institute of Agriculture of NAAS, Bukovynian State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian Region of NAAS) were studied. The planting density of early ripening hybrids was 70, mid-early ripening – 60, mid-ripening – 50 thousand plants/ha. Plants were evaluated for uniformity, resistance to stem breakage below the productive ear, the damage degree by boil smut, resistance to root lodging and general condition were determined. All maize hybrids were characterized by high rating (8–9 points) on these traits. Over the years of research, the mid-early hybrids were more productive in the conditions of Bukovyna (9.06 t/ha), the mid-ripening hybrids - the least adapted to these conditions – (8.62 t/ha). The best samples with high grain yield and low grain moisture content at harvest were identified. On average for three years, DB Lada (9.64 t/ha) and DN Synevyr (9.43 t/ha) had the highest grain yield among the early-ripening hybrids, and DB Varta (10.81 t/ha), DB Khotyn (9.96 t/ha), and Kitsmanskyi 215 SV (9.61 t/ha) – among the middle-early one. It was found that DN Synevyr and DB Lada early-ripening hybrids and Kitsmanskyi 215 SV, DB Kho-tyn, DB Varta mid-early hybrids significantly exceeded the standards each year. In view of this, the hybrids of these maturity groups merit attention in the conditions of the South-Western Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Key words: hybrids, maize, selection, yield, harvesting moisture content, maturity group, lodging resistance.

Abstract:
In 2021, the Sagai archaeological team of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS excavated four funerary and memorial complexes in the construction zone of the «Second track on the Chаrtykovsкy - Kamyshta stretch of the Krasnoyarsk railway». Mound 2 of the Sagayskaya protoka 2 burial ground contained 11 graves. Traces of diverse funeral rites were noted: intact corpses and partial burials of adults and infants in stone boxes and ground pits without stone structures. The grave inventory is poor - vessels and two iron objects (a knife and a buckle). Petroglyphic images were noted on the slabs of the boxes. Among them, there is a composition of the battle of two warriors, one of whom is on skis. At the site of the “Single kurgan Sagayskaya protoka 5”, Tesinsky graves 1 and 3 were made in the stone ceiling of the Saragash grave. In grave 1, two adults were buried. A partial burial (grave 2) was found at some distance. The burials are tentatively dated to the range of the 1st century BC - 1st century AD. In addition to the burials, an excavation trench was established revealing cultural layer containing roughly made stone tools from river pebbles, fragments of animal bones and ceramic vessels with ornaments typical for the Tashtyk pottery. In the areas associated with burial mound 6 (burial site Sagayskaya protoka 2) and burial mounds 1 and No. 2 (burial ground Sagayskaya protoka 8), 39 cult sites were recorded. By their construction, the sites can be classified into several groups: ground pits with animal bones and vessels under the stone work ceiling; ground pits with the remains of wooden posts; ground pits filled with rubble stones; slabs with the edge dug in the ground or tumbled down. The features of the ceramics make it possible to attribute the graves to the Tashtyk culture.

Abstract:

In the present, there are several programmes used for testing in this company. This may lead to a certain mutual inconsistency of the data within the system, as well as to the decrease of orientation and efficiency among the employees, that are in charge of the quality of the developed applications. There is approximately 200 employees in the IT department who focus on the development of the software. The biggest percentage has, though, the position of the tester. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the situation and the testing process in the selected bank company. Simultaneously, we would like to reach certain possibilities to unify the process of testing.

Isn’t the report card just a way to distinguish the “have” schools from the “have not” schools? This is the ninth in a series of frequently asked questions that can be found on the school performance section of the Fraser Institute’s website. Importantly, the report cards in question are both produced and published by the Fraser Institute, an independent public policy research group that ranks Canadian elementary schools on a set of indicators gleaned from the results of provincial standardized testing. While the Fraser Institute answers this question with a simple No, the thesis research presented here uses a mixed methods approach to examine the accuracy of this simplistic answer. Using socioeconomic data and regression analysis, this research endeavors to uncover if standardized test results can indeed stand independently of class and other demographic factors to produce a valid point of school comparison. This research also provides an in depth exploration of the Fraser Institute’s annual elementary school report card from the perspective of current elementary teachers in Ontario. Lastly, this research presents findings regarding the ways that parents of elementary school children use and understand the Fraser Institute’s school ratings.

Abstract:

The aim of this project was to compare the use of the Swedish Reference Group of Antibiotics and the Clinical Laboratory standard institute disc diffusions method using a variety of antibiotics on Klebsiella species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. After the disc diffusions methods a Vitek system and Etest where preformed on those isolates with a different or abnormal result.

Klebsiella spp. and P. aeruginosa was colleted in St James’s hospital over a period of four months. These two isolates were chosen because of their resistance pattern to many commonly used antibiotics and the threat of upcoming resistance to other antibiotics.

The SRGA method is know to have lower breakpoints to catch low degree of resistance bacteria, while the CLSI often is blamed for not having species specific MIC breakpoints.

The results in this study showed that the SRGA-m often caught more resistant and

intermediate isolates then the CLSI-m.

Abstract:
Just as commitment in organizations is very important for long-term success, commitment to one’s educational institute is important, too. Higher education provides the foundation for the social, economic and political growth of a country. Therefore, improving student retention by successfully delivering quality education, leading to student graduation and integration in the workforce, is crucial. It has been argued that students stay in their higher education institutes for similar reasons to those that make employees committed and engaged in organizations. In our previous studies we have created a literature-based generic model of organizational commitment and engagement that could be used in conjunction with an Internet-based application to evaluate their various components and primary correlate constructs. In this study we took this evaluation model to the context of a higher educational institute to try to evaluate students’ commitment to their university. As a result, we identified several development needs in order to evaluate students’ commitment with our application. Because the statements in our original instrument were aimed for use in the organizational domain, some of them were not suited to studies on commitment in an educational institute. Looking at the results of our study, we decided that the overall construct of our model and the wording of applicable statements should be modified in order to create an appropriate instrument for use in an academic institution. This was done based on Bean’s Student Attrition Model. However, collective analysis of the test results clearly identified that even with the preliminary model it is possible to find where students see the needs for greatest development and how they view their current state of engagement.

Full text
Abstract:
The Robinson Towing Tank is an essential element in the education of students at Webb Institute. Students perform a number of resistance tests in the towing tank as part of their laboratory experience. Since Webb Institute requires a senior thesis, many students elect to conduct a variety of experiments in the tank, including resistance tests on vessels of current or possible future interest. Recently a pioneering series of experiments was conducted on trimarans and published in the annual proceeding of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). The towing tank and its test equipment were built about fifty years ago. Minor upgrading has been conducted throughout that time. The improvements were ma.de mostly through student thesis endeavors which of necessity were at best incremental improvements. About three years ago we started a program to significantly improve the carriage and the data acquisition system. This work has been accomplished by the two co-authors of this paper along with the help of numerous students. The detail of the redesign is the subject of a companion paper presented at the session on New Facilities, Equipment and Techniques, (VanHooff, Gallagher and Compton). The new equipment has been in service this past academic year. As a consequence we have been conducting a. series of experiments to establish the capabilities of the system and to determine any deficiencies that need correction. To assist us in this endeavor we have used the Webb class of 2002, as part of their laboratory training, to conduct a number of the experiments. The initial test work performed by the students during the class laboratory periods last fall indicated that the model test results were unreliable. Consequently, the authors, this past winter, initiated a systematic study to determine the reasons for the failure to correctly predict the resista11c:e of selected models. Selected members of the class of 2002 assisted in the testing program this past spring.

Full text
Abstract:
An evaluation study was conducted of the Hoerbiger/Altronic HYPERfuel high-pressure fuel injection system. This work was performed by the EECL under contract to Hoerbiger Corporation of America. The project was funded by the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and by the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI). The first phase of this program consisted of start up and shakedown testing of the system. Start up was generally very straightforward and the system was operating and running the engine within a few hours of commencing start up / shakedown. The initial valve implementation tested would not operate at the target pressure of 500 psi. The initial test run was halted before its completion due to a failure of the EECLs high pressure fuel gas compressor. A second round of testing and evaluation began on June 6. A new valve design produced by Hoerbiger was utilized in the second round of testing. This new valve operated successfully from 400 to 550 psi. The valves were not tested outside of this range.

Abstract:
This report provides a summary of the results obtained in laboratory-scale testing of dry-decontamination technologies. The purpose of the experiment is to assess nonaqueous technologies to determine the viability of a solution to mitigate chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense, CBRN Response Enterprise, medical casualty care, and cold-weather operational gaps. The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) assessed the efficacy, via percentage reduction, of four nonaqueous technologies to decontaminate particulate contamination, at three operational temperatures, from three starting challenges. Testing was conducted by CRREL personnel according to protocols developed in conjunction with the Homeland Defense/Civil Support Office Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI) and approved by Joint Program Executive Office CBRN Protection. CRREL subsequently collected data and conducted statistical measures of significance and explored additional questions about the technology capabilities. CRREL personnel then deployed with AFRRI support to Arctic Eagle/Patriot 22 (AE/P-22) for field testing of the technologies and their evaluation from an operational perspective. AE/P-22 allowed for direct, full-scale testing of the technology in conditions approximating a use-case scenario. This report documents the culmination of analysis performed on CRREL- and AFRRI-collected test data results, operational factors, and user inputs.

Population-level interventions to improve the health outcomes of people living with hepatitis B: an Evidence Check brokered by the Sax Institute for the NSW Ministry of Health, 2022. The Sax Institute, August 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.57022/pxwj3682.

Full text
Abstract:
Background An estimated 292 million people are living with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection globally, including 223,000 people in Australia. HBV diagnosis and linkage of people living with HBV to clinical care is suboptimal in Australia, with 27% of people living with HBV undiagnosed and 77% not receiving regular HBV clinical care. This systematic review aimed to characterize population-level interventions implemented to enhance all components of HBV care cascade and analyse the effectiveness of interventions. Review questions Question 1: What population-level interventions, programs or policy approaches have been shown to be effective in reducing the incidence of hepatitis B; and that may not yet be fully rolled out or evaluated in Australia demonstrate early effectiveness, or promise, in reducing the incidence of hepatitis B? Question 2: What population-level interventions and/or programs are effective at reducing disease burden for people in the community with hepatitis B? Methods Four bibliographic databases and 21 grey literature sources were searched. Studies were eligible for inclusion if the study population included people with or at risk of chronic HBV, and the study conducted a population-level interventions to decrease HBV incidence or disease burden or to enhance any components of HBV care cascade (i.e., diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment initiation, adherence to clinical care), or HBV vaccination coverage. Studies published in the past 10 years (since January 2012), with or without comparison groups were eligible for inclusion. Studies conducting an HBV screening intervention were eligible if they reported proportion of people participating in screening, proportion of newly diagnosed HBV (participant was unaware of their HBV status), proportion of people received HBV vaccination following screening, or proportion of participants diagnosed with chronic HBV infection who were linked to HBV clinical care. Studies were excluded if study population was less than 20 participants, intervention included a pharmaceutical intervention or a hospital-based intervention, or study was implemented in limited clinical services. The records were initially screened by title and abstract. The full texts of potentially eligible records were reviewed, and eligible studies were selected for inclusion. For each study included in analysis, the study outcome and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were calculated. For studies including a comparison group, odds ratio (OR) and corresponding 95%CIs were calculated. Random effect meta-analysis models were used to calculate the pooled study outcome estimates. Stratified analyses were conducted by study setting, study population, and intervention-specific characteristics. Key findings A total of 61 studies were included in the analysis. A large majority of studies (study n=48, 79%) included single-arm studies with no concurrent control, with seven (12%) randomised controlled trials, and six (10%) non-randomised controlled studies. A total of 109 interventions were evaluated in 61 included studies. On-site or outreach HBV screening and linkage to HBV clinical care coordination were the most frequent interventions, conducted in 27 and 26 studies, respectively. Question 1 We found no studies reporting HBV incidence as the study outcome. One study conducted in remote area demonstrated that an intervention including education of pregnant women and training village health volunteers enhanced coverage of HBV birth dose vaccination (93% post-intervention, vs. 81% pre-intervention), but no data of HBV incidence among infants were reported. Question 2 Study outcomes most relevant to the HBV burden for people in the community with HBV included, HBV diagnosis, linkage to HBV care, and HBV vaccination coverage. Among randomised controlled trials aimed at enhancing HBV screening, a meta-analysis was conducted including three studies which implemented an intervention including community face-to-face education focused on HBV and/or liver cancer among migrants from high HBV prevalence areas. This analysis demonstrated a significantly higher HBV testing uptake in intervention groups with the likelihood of HBV testing 3.6 times higher among those participating in education programs compared to the control groups (OR: 3.62, 95% CI 2.72, 4.88). In another analysis, including 25 studies evaluating an intervention to enhance HBV screening, a pooled estimate of 66% of participants received HBV testing following the study intervention (95%CI: 58-75%), with high heterogeneity across studies (range: 17-98%; I-square: 99.9%). A stratified analysis by HBV screening strategy demonstrated that in the studies providing participants with on-site HBV testing, the proportion receiving HBV testing (80%, 95%CI: 72-87%) was significantly higher compared to the studies referring participants to an external site for HBV testing (54%, 95%CI: 37-71%). In the studies implementing an intervention to enhance linkage of people diagnosed with HBV infection to clinical care, the interventions included different components and varied across studies. The most common component was post-test counselling followed by assistance with scheduling clinical appointments, conducted in 52% and 38% of the studies, respectively. In meta-analysis, a pooled estimate of 73% of people with HBV infection were linked to HBV clinical care (95%CI: 64-81%), with high heterogeneity across studies (range: 28-100%; I-square: 99.2%). A stratified analysis by study population demonstrated that in the studies among general population in high prevalence countries, 94% of people (95%CI: 88-100%) who received the study intervention were linked to care, significantly higher than 72% (95%CI: 61-83%) in studies among migrants from high prevalence area living in a country with low prevalence. In 19 studies, HBV vaccination uptake was assessed after an intervention, among which one study assessed birth dose vaccination among infants, one study assessed vaccination in elementary school children and 17 studies assessed vaccination in adults. Among studies assessing adult vaccination, a pooled estimate of 38% (95%CI: 21-56%) of people initiated vaccination, with high heterogeneity across studies (range: 0.5-93%; I square: 99.9%). A stratified analysis by HBV vaccination strategy demonstrated that in the studies providing on-site vaccination, the uptake was 78% (95%CI: 62-94%), significantly higher compared to 27% (95%CI: 13-42%) in studies referring participants to an external site for vaccination. Conclusion This systematic review identified a wide variety of interventions, mostly multi-component interventions, to enhance HBV screening, linkage to HBV clinical care, and HBV vaccination coverage. High heterogeneity was observed in effectiveness of interventions in all three domains of screening, linkage to care, and vaccination. Strategies identified to boost the effectiveness of interventions included providing on-site HBV testing and vaccination (versus referral for testing and vaccination) and including community education focussed on HBV or liver cancer in an HBV screening program. Further studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of more novel interventions (e.g., point of care testing) and interventions specifically including Indigenous populations, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, and people incarcerated.

Full text
Abstract:
This work develops a comprehensive guidance for the pipeline industry on the use of hydrostatic testing as an integrity management tool with carbon steel mainline piping as the focus of this work. Selected hydrostatic testing principles considered herein may also be applicable to other forms of transmission and facility piping. At the time of this guideline development, several parallel pipeline industry initiatives with focus on hydrostatic testing have been recently completed, or are currently on-going. Such initiatives include work performed by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), the American Petroleum Institute (API), the Association of Oil Pipe Lines (AOPL), and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA). While this completed or on-going work is of considerable value to the pipeline industry, lacking within these industry initiatives is a focus on the specific application of hydrostatic testing as a pipeline assessment tool to support integrity management plan (IMP) requirements and objectives. The scope of this work is the development of a document which will provide the necessary guid-ance to pipeline operators on the appropriate use of hydrostatic testing within the integrity and risk management process. Consideration is given to the essentials of known or assumed pipe material properties, threat type and defect populations, operating and failure history, potential risks, unintended or detrimental effects and the importance of a clear understanding of objectives, as key elements within a hydrostatic test program design process. This document does not attempt to provide practical guidance for the on-site implementation of a hydrostatic testing program. The focus of this study has instead been on hydrostatic test program decision processes and development; the selection of hydrostatic testing as an appropriate pipe-line assessment tool, the subsequent technical design of a hydrostatic test program and the necessary considerations in order to achieve IMP requirements and objectives. Robinett, Fred. PR-471-14207-R01 Development of Field Pump Performance Testing Procedure. Chantilly, Virginia: Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), October 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0010037.

Full text
Abstract:
Performance testing pumps in the field can be challenging and even more complicated when the pump is in crude oil pipeline service. Pumps installed in crude oil pipelines normally do not meet the basic requirements set forth in typical pump testing standards, additionally crude oil fluid properties are irregular, thus making it difficult to obtain the desired accuracy for proper evaluation and comparison to factory tests. All inconsistencies need to be evaluated and reconciled to successfully field performance test pumps pumping viscous fluid. The objective of this project is to develop a practical field test procedure that can be applied to large high volume centrifugal pumps in pipelines transporting viscous fluids, specifically crude oil. There are many variables affecting field performance testing of crude oil pipeline pumps making it nearly impossible to fully analyze all possible combination of test measurements. The field pump performance test procedure provides practical guidance to assess the potential uncertainty of the measurements and making sensible corrections. Using the field testing procedure actual pump viscous performances can be measured and the results used to validate performances measured during factory tests on water and corrected for viscosity per the Hydraulic Institute (HI) 9.6.7, "Effects of Liquid Viscosity on Rotordynamic Pump Performance". The long term goal is to utilize the measured viscous performances using the field pump performance testing procedure to either validate or improve the current correlations between pump water performance and viscous performance set forth by HI, which are principally based on smaller pump tests. By assuring the viscous corrections are correct the pump and drive system sizing may be optimized.

Full text
Abstract:
In situ pump performance testing was performed at the TransCanada pipeline Monitor station in Alberta Canada and Liebenthal station in Saskatchewan Canada in accordance with the Field Pump Performance Testing Procedure (PRCI report PR-471-14207-R01). Testing at the Monitor station was performed by Sulzer with two different batches of crude oil with slightly different viscosities and densities. Because of the pipeline operation limitations the flow could not be varied appreciably, however the flow points were near the pumps bep flow and therefore believed to be beneficial. To help validate field pump performance testing techniques measurements were taken using two methods to measure flow and two to measure pump power-in. Testing at the Liebenthal station was performed by TransCanada personnel on one fixed speed and one variable speed unit. All testing was performed with one batch of crude oil. The fixed speed unit power was measured with electrical power to the motor and the variable speed unit power was measured with a torque meter and electrical power. A full description of the Excel sheets used to calculate the field pump performance and the factory test data corrected to field conditions is made. The spreadsheet is included with this report. This work will benefit the liquids pipeline operators by validating the field test procedure, thereby providing assurance and acceptance of the methods. Using these field pump performance testing methods on additional pumps will help populate the database of measured viscous pump performances. This data can then be used to further improve the Hydraulic Institutes viscous correction calculations. Additionally, improved field pump performance measurements will allow the pipeline users to optimize their pipeline operation.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To summarize the sprint reference acceleration and speed values for different sprint distances and suggest optimal unification of ice-hockey straight sprint testing. Eligibility criteria: The title and abstract screening was done by two researchers (PS and RR) who selected a set of articles for full text screening, where the inclusion criteria were: 1) male or female ice-hockey players; 2) any cross-sectional or intervention study; 3) tests of ice-hockey sprinting over any distance or any battery of conditioning tests that included straight-line sprints; and, 4) results reported straight-line sprint distance, speed, time, or acceleration. In the case of disagreement between the evaluating authors, the final decision was made by a third author (MV).The full text screening exclusion criteria were: 1) if the article was not in English; 2) the testing did not include straight-line sprinting; 3) the reported values did not include data distribution; 4) the study reported only maximum speed without skating time or average speed; 5) the end of the sprint was defined by the point the player stopped sprinting; 6) the measurement was made with a stopwatch; and, 7) the study had high bias estimation. The maximum speed test was not included due to the uncertain velocity conditions at beginning of testing distance. The bias estimation was performed using the JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross Sectional Studies (supplementary material 1).

Full text
Abstract:
Significant effort has been spent in understanding dent fatigue behavior and developing engineering assessment tools for dent integrity management involving full-scale dent testing and numerical modeling through Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI), United States Department of Transportation (DOT) and Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) sponsored research [1][2][3][4][5]. The results of the research work have been incorporated in American Petroleum Institute (API) recommended practice (RP), API RP 1183 [6]. The assessment tools have been validated and calibrated against full-scale dent fatigue tests. The experimental database of dent full-scale fatigue tests; however, consisted of dents created in the laboratory and the majority of these were created using dome shaped (semi-elliptical end caps) indenters. The current project scope was developed to address the specific gap between fabricated samples developed for full-scale test and real world samples, and to provide further validation of the dent fatigue life assessment methodologies incorporated in API RP 1183[6]. The field dents tested under the current project ranged in depth from 0.6 % to 11 % and included pipe samples with diameters ranging from 10" OD to 40" OD. The experimental data generated using former in-service pipeline samples was used to assess and validate the Level 2 and Level 3 dent fatigue assessment tools incorporated in API RP 1183 and support the improved management of mechanical damage so that dig programs can be better managed and the resources effectively utilized by the operating companies.
