Full text
Abstract:
Emerging markets are a great point of interest to multinational companies seeking to exploit new opportunities as they realise that catering to the rich domestic markets limits their opportunities, their potential and competitive advantage. Serving the consumers that are at the bottom of the economic pyramid (BoP) presents enormous opportunity but it also comes with its unique set of challenges. These challenges require an alternative business strategy, as companies entering these markets must develop new offerings designed to meet the specific requirements of servicing the BoP consumer.

Abstract:
This dissertation seeks to improve the current understanding of the ways in which institutional reform can promote the development of stock markets in Latin America. Over the past decade, policymakers sought to stimulate the growth of capital markets in the region through the promotion of a standardized set of formal institutions. An example of this approach in the field of company law was the introduction of modern corporate governance practices into nations without a solid enforcement infrastructure. By most accounts, these efforts did not deliver on their promise of stock market development

The writer discusses various strategies that heritage bureaucrats and heritage commodifiers, acting as the main agents in the field, present to justify the importance they are granted in the commemoration of national heritage. Heritage bureaucrats and heritage commodifiers claim legitimacy from staging heritage activities that are recognized as such by the public in audience and for being legally authorized to do so. Both also resort to invectives and analogies to consolidate their position, or deny their competitors the right to be there. Heritage commodifiers claim that their productions bri

This dissertation studies the behavior of institutional investors, who control a large share of the world's investment capital, with the goal of shedding light on when and how those investors reveal information. Guided by economic intuition, I highlight instances in which the trades of fund managers are particularly informative. I focus on hedge funds and present evidence that in these instances funds' decisions predict future asset price movements. These results demonstrate that fund managers possess valuable information. At the same time, my findings support a view of the world in which fun
