Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine inservice band directors’ perceptions of their undergraduate instrumental conducting curricula. Members ( N = 141) of the Facebook Band Directors Group who had completed undergraduate conducting and rehearsal techniques coursework responded to an online survey. Respondents felt more confident demonstrating technical conducting behaviors versus expressive ones, perceived their instruction in conducting skills superior to their rehearsal skill instruction, and desired additional conducting and rehearsal experiences that were more representative of what they encountered once they began teaching. Respondents’ most desired curricular change was for additional instruction in rehearsal planning, error detection and correction, and instrument-specific pedagogy. The three most frequently used score study behaviors were “initial, casual read-through of the score,” “define all unfamiliar terms,” and “marking important cues.” Based on our findings, we discuss ways in which music teacher educators can improve their instrumental conducting courses.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the complexities of instrumental music teacher knowledge as they relate to the intersection between instrumental music teaching and conducting, and to explore how participants describe and perceive these intersections. The key research question guiding this study was, How do high school instrumental music teachers describe the intersections between instrumental music teaching and conducting? This study focused on the participants’ ( N = 4) perceptions and descriptions of the intersections between instrumental music teaching and conducting. A multiple-case-study design was used. The central finding of this study suggests that the practice of instrumental music teaching demands a specialized form of knowledge that reflects the integration of, rather than the intersection between, both teaching and conducting. This specialized form of knowledge informs the participants’ in-the-moment decision making, judgments, decisions, and communication with students and the ensemble as a whole. The findings of this study suggest implications for music teacher education and conducting education, specifically in the areas of devising professional development opportunities that are systematic, multilevel, and multifaceted and that mirror the integrated nature of teaching and conducting that occurs in practice.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate undergraduate instrumental music education majors’ score study practices as they related to the effectiveness of their simulated conducting. Participants ( N = 30) were video recorded in two sessions in which they completed a 20-min score study session and a simulated conducting performance. In the first score study session, all 30 conductors studied Mini-Suite for Band, Movement 1. In Session 2, participants studied Portrait of a Clown but this time either with a model recording ( n = 15) or without one ( n = 15). We computed the overall duration of participants’ score study behaviors for both pieces. Additional data included graduate students’ evaluations of participants’ post–score study conducting performances and an inventory of participants’ score study markings. We found a significant difference in the proportion of time spent in score studying activities between the model and no-model condition conductors, with more time spent in gesturing when studying along with a model. Evaluations of participants’ conducting revealed no differences between those conductors who used a model and those who did not while studying Portrait of a Clown. Our analysis of conductors’ score markings revealed a small number of notable differences between stronger/weaker conductors and between model/no-model conditions. Implications for undergraduate conductor preparation programs are discussed.

Abstract:
The issue of preserving national culture in such traditional forms of musical art development as contests of folk instruments performers is an important research area considering the existing exacerbation of socio-economic and spiritual crisis of Ukrainian society against the background of the world processes of globalization and digitalization of cultural and educational space. Therefore, the study aims to comprehensively explore the experience of conducting the Art-Dominanta International Folk Instruments Performers Competition as an important promotion factor of folk instrumental art among young people, to highlight its importance for maintaining the spiritual security of society at the regional and country levels, to consider the contest as a significant stimulus for promoting the Ukrainian culture in the world. The author has proved that the musical performing contests are a significant factor in the development of folk instrumental art as a part of the national musical culture. It has been established that conducting the contest is an important cultural resource for strengthening the image of Kharkiv as a center for the development of folk and instrumental art, a source of cultural and creative growth for the city and its citizens. Many years of experience in conducting the contest creates fertile ground for the integration of its best achievements into the educational process of numerous regional educational institutions raising the cultural level of the city.

This study is a description of the error correction process in 40 instrumental music rehearsals taught by 10 teachers, each of whom was observed conducting 4 consecutive rehearsals. A total of 332 rehearsal frames were analyzed. Rather than summing the observation data across complete rehearsals, I analyzed the data using rehearsal frames as a unit of analysis. Perhaps the most important finding was that the error correction process, rate of teacher-student interaction, and pace varied systematically with the type of error addressed.

Abstract:
The effect of learning depends on many factors, among the most important of which are the suitability of a plan for conducting practical exercises and laboratory works that most accurately reflects the purposes and didactic units of the course being studied, and a sufficient level of provision of practical training with methodological guidelines and software tools. Decisions regarding the choice of all these elements depend on a number of conditions, such as the rules and standards in force of a particular educational environment, the format of training, the students’ stuff, and others. The paper proposes a framework generalized plan for conducting laboratory workshops on modeling and simulation courses, summarizing the author's methodological experience. The main prerequisites and principles underlying the composition of the workshops are presented. The set of tools used to perform practical tasks is characterized. Brief characteristics of the goals of each practical task of the generalized plan, the setting of tasks and the software tools used to solve them are given. The ideas and principles presented in the paper can be useful for teachers planning practical lessons on modeling and simulation as well as for developing their methodological and instrumental support.

Abstract:
Recent teaching with PGCE secondary music students has revealed that conducting ensembles is a musical activity in which they have variable knowledge, skills and experience. It is a general expectation, nevertheless, that music teachers still conduct choral and instrumental ensembles as part of their job in schools, and some may also undertake such roles in the wider community. This paper seeks to identify from research literature aspects of effective conducting that warrant greater attention. This forms part of a research project which is exploring definitions of effective conducting and making an analysis and case for more structured teaching in this area within higher education.

Abstract:
Conducting courses are a common component of undergraduate instrumental music education programs. The experiences students have in those courses vary across and sometimes within institutions. This variation is due to many factors including choice of instructional materials and sequences, as well as whether textbooks or other instructional approaches (e.g., Laban movement theory) are used and how classes are designed for students to practice and refine their conducting. In this review, I summarized and synthesized literature related to the structure and content of undergraduate conducting curricula, as well as students’ and teachers’ perceptions of those curricula. I also made suggestions for teaching practice and for further research, and proposed a shift in the discourse on undergraduate conducting curricula toward authentic context, pedagogy-rich coursework aimed at preparing students to successfully adopt the conductor-educator role in their future careers.

Abstract:
A unique resolution function of angular-dispersive synchrotron radiation powder diffractometers, properly parameterized to be valid for any multicrystal variant of this instrument, has been derived paying special attention to the absolute correctness of the formulae by avoiding any unknown proportionality factors. Moreover, the concept of experimental performance criterion has been proposed in an attempt to introduce a kind of `worth-scale' for the results of measurements performed with a certain instrumental configuration. Both entities were used in computer simulations to determine the most convenient configuration of instrumental parameters that, apart from the fulfilment of the experiment goal, ensure an adequate counting rate. Several case studies using different instrumental layouts, different single-crystal monochromators and samples of different low symmetries and unit-cell volumes were considered. The results offer reliable information that may be useful for designing diffractometers as well as for conducting experiments.

Abstract:
The practice and methods of geological fieldwork in the Portuguese Geological Survey evolved during the middle part of the twentieth century. Between the 1920s and the 1940s, the Survey's field assistants played a key role in conducting geological fieldwork; special attention will be given to their training. In 1940, Georges Zbyzsewski (1909-1999) was hired as a geologist by the Survey and he was responsible for conducting the majority of fieldwork. Scientific collaborators from outside the Survey also began to play a key role in the institution. From the 1950s onwards, several new specialities were hired by the Survey, especially geologists and field assistants. The pace of geological fieldwork recorded an unprecedented increase. The characteristics of the teams that carried out this task in the Survey were instrumental in this achievement.

Abstract:
Purpose. Research into influence of drilling-and-blasting operations on the nature of deformation in near-side masses of the design open-pit contours and assessing the seismic impact of blasting operations, which are the basis for development of recommendations on the rational parameters of drilling-and-blasting operations. Methods. The influence of drilling-and-blasting operations at the limiting contour of the Kusmuryn field is studied using the analysis of the mining-and-geological conditions and tectonics of the rocks constituing the field, in-situ surveying the state of the open-pit sides, analysis of the physical and mechanical properties of the host rocks, analytical studies and instrumental measurements of the blasting effect. Findings. Based on the analytical methods, the calculation and analysis of the seismic stability of the rocks at the field have been performed. By means of instrumental measurement of the blasting effect in open pit, data have been obtained on the seismic impact of blasting operations on the near-side masses. According to the results of these works, rational parameters of drilling-and-blasting operations at the limiting contour of the open pit have been determined. In addition, the main provisions for the organization of drilling-and-blasting operations at the limiting contour of the open pit have been developed. Originality. In this work, for the first time, a joint research method is applied, which includes an analytical calculation of the shock wave seismic impact on a rock mass, based on the results of which the dependency graphs have been obtained of the seismicity coefficient on the rock hardness coefficient at the Kusmuryn field according to the Protodyakonov scale for various explosives, as well as using the method of instrumental measurements, which serves to determine the seismic impact of an explosion on a rock mass. This makes it possible to substantiate the technology of conducting the drilling-and-blasting operations at the contour, providing a long-term stable position of the permanent side of the open pit. Practical implications. The results of the work will be used to calculate the safe parameters of conducting the blasting operations when placing the side in the final position at the Kusmuryn field. This research method can be applied at any mining enterprise conducting open-cut mining of minerals.

ObjectivesThis study evaluated emotional, informational and instrumental support needs in patients with breast cancer who had undergone surgery, then identified the variables associated with those needs.DesignThis was a cross-sectional survey study.SettingQuestionnaires were distributed in tertiary hospitals in China between January 2018 and July 2020.ParticipantsWe recruited 477 eligible patients with breast cancer via convenience sampling. Due to exclusions for response errors, the final analysed sample included 461 participants (mean age of 50.9 years). Each completed a questionnaire consisting of a sociodemographic information component and three short forms from the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (social relationships short forms, anxiety short form and depression short form). Subsequent analyses included the χ2 test, Pearson correlation and multivariate regression.ResultsThe T scores for informational support were lower than those for the reference group (general population), while those for emotional and informational support were average. Marital status, childbearing history, lifestyle, employment status, anxiety and depression levels were related to the scores for emotional, informational and instrumental support in this population. The regression analysis revealed that emotional support levels, instrumental support levels, marital status, employment status, anxiety and depression outcomes were predictors for informational support levels.ConclusionsInformational support should be specifically assessed and promoted among patients with breast cancer in general, while marital status, childbearing history, lifestyle, employment status, anxiety and depression levels should be evaluated when conducting interventions to promote emotional, informational and instrumental support for those who have undergone surgery. Early and regular screenings for high-risk patients will help nurses identify those who are likely to benefit from targeted preventive interventions aimed at emotional, informational and instrumental support issues.Trial registration numberChiCTR2000035439; ClinicalTrials.gov registry.

Abstract:
AbstractMany women in the United States encountered resistance to their involvement in orchestral conducting and public instrumental performance—both solo and ensemble—in the early twentieth century. Mary Davenport Engberg (1880–1951), however, became involved in the developing musical culture of the Pacific Northwest without encountering opposition based on her gender. In 1911 Engberg founded the mixed-gender Bellingham Symphony Orchestra, which she conducted until she became the conductor of the Seattle Civic Symphony Orchestra in 1921, and she also performed extensively as a violinist in Seattle and along the West Coast. She was the director of an influential music school in Seattle and cofounded the Seattle Civic Opera Association in 1932. Engberg's life and accomplishments reveal the effect of regional differences in the experiences and reception of women in American music. An understanding of her contributions leads to a better appreciation of the varied roles played by women in instrumental music throughout our country's history.

Abstract:
Hazardous production facilities at open-pit mines are zones characterized by the presence of natural or man-made factors causing emergencies and life safety threats. When conducting mining operations and processing solid minerals, it is necessary to monitor the condition of sides, trenches, ledges, slopes and dumps, and areas of possible collapses or failures. The monitoring is carried out by the mine surveying de-partment. They conduct instrumental observations of displacement processes, deformations of the earth's surface, buildings, and structures. The stationary benchmarks adapted for attaching stationary reflectors and measuring instruments help to minimize risk factors during instrumental observations. This allows for remote monitoring without the presence of people in danger zones. The automatic remote monitoring system allows for measuring cycles at high speeds and small frequencies, which eliminates errors caused by the human factor. Constantly updated parameters of the monitored object are used to predict the state of the object with a high degree of reliability, prevent accidents or calculate economic indicators of consequences.

Abstract:
Abstract Mild Cognitive Impairment is characterized as an intermediate form between age-related change and dementia. For the elderly, autonomy and independence are related to the ability to remain active in conducting their social activities and, for this to occur, communication is fundamental in this process. Objective: To assess the association between communication and the abilities of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment to perform instrumental activities of daily living. Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative, analytical, correlational study was conducted at the Open University of the Third Age (UnATI), a program of the Federal University of Pernambuco. This study included 92 people, comprising 46 elderly with mild cognitive impairment and a caregiver or family member who met the inclusion criteria. The elderly were asked to complete a sociodemographic questionnaire and Lawton-Brody’s Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale. The caregivers were asked to complete the Functional Assessment of Communication Skills. The following variables were studied: social communication skills and instrumental activities of daily living. Data were stored in an Excel® 2007 spreadsheet, and the Pearson correlation test was used for the statistical analysis. Results: There were statistically significant correlations in four domains of social communication: referring to family members by name (p=0.0033); requesting information about people or events (p=0.0355); understanding conversations in a noisy environment (p=0.0448); and understanding what they watch on television or listen to on the radio (p=0.0127). Conclusion: Changes in the communication of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment interfere with their ability to perform instrumental activities autonomously and independently.

This paper analyzes the method of social experiments. The assumptions that justify the experimental method are exposited. Parameters of interest in evaluating social programs are discussed. The authors show how experiments sometimes serve as instrumental variables to identify program impacts. The most favorable case for experiments ignores variability across persons in response to treatments received and assumes that mean impacts of a program are the main object of interest in conducting an evaluation. Experiments do not identify the distribution of program gains unless additional assumptions are maintained. Evidence on the validity of the assumptions used to justify social experiments is presented.

This article addresses the challenges of conducting retrospective qualitative research in conflict contexts, particularly those stemming from the susceptibility of retrospective accounts to present narratives and contextual variations in the experience and interpretations of war. This article shows how focus groups combined with in-depth interviews can be used as a strategy to overcome these challenges. Drawing on empirical examples from research conducted in conflict settings, the article shows how focus groups can be instrumental in culturally anchoring the researcher and accessing the most reliable accounts of the past via unearthing the locally relevant wartime events and war-induced dynamics.

Abstract:
Online activities have become the norm. From searching for new information to conducting business meetings, social media’s role in daily life continues to grow in prominence. It is estimated that the majority of the population uses social media, and users include doctors and other healthcare professionals. It is critical for primary care doctors to note how social media can substantially influence one’s healthcare behaviour and decision making. Because primary care doctors are usually the first line of contact for patients, they are the most easily accessible and most instrumental in using social media to steer the public toward proper information on healthcare.

Abstract:
AbstractEstimating the effect of a randomized treatment and the effect that is transmitted through a mediator is often complicated by treatment noncompliance. In literature, an instrumental variable (IV)-based method has been developed to study causal mediation effects in the presence of treatment noncompliance. Existing studies based on the IV-based method focus on identifying the mediated portion of the intention-to-treat effect, which relies on several identification assumptions. However, little attention has been given to assessing the sensitivity of the identification assumptions or mitigating the impact of violating these assumptions. This study proposes a two-stage joint modeling method for conducting causal mediation analysis in the presence of treatment noncompliance, in which modeling assumptions can be employed to decrease the sensitivity to violation of some identification assumptions. The use of a joint modeling method is also conducive to conducting sensitivity analyses to the violation of identification assumptions. We demonstrate our approach using the Jobs II data, in which the effect of job training on job seekers’ mental health is examined.

Abstract:
This article reviews and summarizes work recently performed in this laboratory on the synthesis of advanced transparent conducting oxide nanopowders by the use of plasma. The nanopowders thus synthesized include indium tin oxide (ITO), zinc oxide (ZnO) and tin-doped zinc oxide (TZO), aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO), and indium-doped zinc oxide (IZO). These oxides have excellent transparent conducting properties, among other useful characteristics. ZnO and TZO also has photocatalytic properties. The synthesis of these materials started with the selection of the suitable precursors, which were injected into a non-transferred thermal plasma and vaporized followed by vapor-phase reactions to form nanosized oxide particles. The products were analyzed by the use of various advanced instrumental analysis techniques, and their useful properties were tested by different appropriate methods. The thermal plasma process showed a considerable potential as an efficient technique for synthesizing oxide nanopowders. This process is also suitable for large scale production of nano-sized powders owing to the availability of high temperatures for volatilizing reactants rapidly, followed by vapor phase reactions and rapid quenching to yield nano-sized powder.

Abstract:
Goal. Analysis of the latest methods for identifying pests of an orchard using pheromone monitoring and factors affecting its implementation. Methods. The studies were carried out in accordance with modern methodological approaches to pheromone monitoring of pests of fruit plantations. Results. The principles of pheromone monitoring in an orchard are given to identify harmful and quarantine organisms, which makes it possible to obtain information about the presence of pests in a certain area, determine their number, development dynamics, and, on the basis of the data obtained, plan and carry out appropriate phytosanitary measures. The main pests of the orchard of the Lepidoptera and Hemiptera classes have been identified, monitoring of which is carried out using pheromone traps. Methodological recommendations are given for conducting pheromone monitoring in fruit plantations to identify the eastern fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck), Californian and mulberry scale insects (Pseudaulacaspis pentagona Targ.-Tozzetti, Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comst), American white butterfly (Hyphantria cune). The advantages of the pheromone method over other monitoring methods are presented. The main factors that affect the catch of pests with pheromone traps are described. Conclusions. The information obtained with the help of pheromone traps is a component of effective programs — systems of integrated plant protection against pests, which combine the use of a complex of biological, chemical, agrotechnical measures, as well as fundamental for planning measures to prevent emergencies in a phytosanitary state. The informativeness and reliability of pheromone monitoring makes it possible to substantiate and develop instrumental monitoring technologies that reduce the number of chemical treatments by up to 30%, increase labor productivity by 75%, reduce costs by 70%, and increase the efficiency and reliability of accounting.

Abstract:
Purpose of research. The identified inconsistencies with energy-saving standards are usually considered as a set of individual elements. Improvement of the entire system (walls, windows, floor structures, coatings) helps to reduce external heat loss, which, on the whole, leads to heat energy saving in the object under study. The method that considers the element component of a building has some disadvantages, since, as a result of calculations, there is a significant error in determining the specific characteristics of heat consumption for heating and ventilation of a building and, hence, in determining the energy efficiency class of a building. This paper discusses the method of instrumental control of indicators. It offers the method of instrumental control of indicators that determine the class of energy efficiency of an apartment house in accordance with the current requirements of regulatory documents and legislative acts. Methods. The proposed method makes it possible to perform an assessment using whole-building metering devices for heat and electricity consumption during a calendar year and a short-term instrumental survey in order to clarify some other parameters necessary for evaluating energy efficiency indicators of apartment residential houses. The paper also suggests an equation for converting the value of the measured average internal air temperature during a short-term survey to the average value of air temperature inside the house during the heating period. Results. The method was tested through the use of a comprehensive instrumental survey of apartment residential houses of standard series 1-447c from the Tambov housing stock. The value of deviation of the actual specific annual heat consumption for heating and ventilation, taking into account the household heat supply of the building in question from the base level (for the given apartment house), is 151•4.8 kWh/m2, which corresponds to the deviation of 13 * 0.1 %. Тhe building under consideration must be assigned an energy efficiency class – F (Low). Conclusion. The given method can be applied by the residents of apartment houses, the employees of state housing inspections and the specialists of organizations conducting energy audits in assessing compliance with regional energy efficiency and consumption targets, for the residential houses and public buildings being commissioned and buildings that are in use when assigning the mentioned buildings energy efficiency class.

Abstract:
Practical-participatory evaluation is often considered an effective approach to enhancing evaluation use. Despite this generally positive connotation, potential negative effects of participatory evaluation have also been discussed in the literature but never empirically investigated before. Drawing upon the social–psychological procedural justice literature, we assumed that stakeholders’ perceptions about the justice of an evaluation might explain possible negative effects of participatory evaluation on evaluation use. Negative effects of participatory evaluation on instrumental and conceptual use were explored in two experiments (Study 1: N = 85; Study 2: N = 78). The results show that negative effects of participation on evaluation use are mediated by stakeholders’ justice perceptions. Implications of the present research include considering stakeholders’ socioemotional needs, negotiation, and transparency when conducting participatory evaluation.

Abstract:
There has been an increase in awareness in low voltage scanning electron microscopy (LVSEM) of polymers in recent years because not only is it possible to use uncoated or very lightly coated (1-5nm) polymer samples but also due to an inherent advantage of limited beam damage of polymer samples by low energy beams. A steady increase in the use of low accelerating voltages for characterizing polymers has been made possible due to some major developments, such as high brightness field emission source, better lens and column design to minimize lens aberrations, and newer and improved detector systems with higher collection efficiency, incorporated by instrument manufacturers in their newer commercial models in recent years. Although there is still room for further improvements, the described instrumental changes have made possible the appreciation of LVSEM in characterization of polymers and non-conducting, beam sensitive materials.

Abstract:
Food insufficiency is a major public health problem that has been linked to poor nutritional intake, poor diabetes management, poor cognitive development in children, and other adverse health outcomes. Since the 1960s, antihunger advocacy organizations (AHAOs) have fought to alleviate hunger at the local, state, and federal levels. Few studies have investigated the organizational structure, programs, advocacy activities, and outcomes of these organizations, although many organizations have been instrumental in advocating for state and federal food policy, creating measurements for hunger, and conducting research. Four state-level AHAOs were studied by using multiple case study methodology and grounded theory for analysis to assess organizational effectiveness. The findings highlight a conceptual framework that identified 19 important organizational characteristics that reflect organizational capacity, performance, achievement, and effectiveness. The conceptual framework may be useful in assessing effectiveness of public health organizations and coalitions.

Abstract:
One of the well-known properties of multimember plurality systems is their propensity toward producing the so-called “sweep effect,” manifesting itself in that the strongest party in a majority of districts sees its full slate of candidates elected even if the margin of plurality is small. Despite this property, and mostly for technical reasons, this system remains rather widely employed for conducting local elections both in democracies and in electoral authoritarian regimes. This article employs the evidence from the 2019 municipal elections in St. Petersburg to examine how increased strategic coordination of opposition voters became instrumental in countering the sweep effect and thus reducing the scope of political monopoly in an overtly authoritarian context. The analysis shows that this goal was achieved primarily by enabling opposition-minded voters to cast a greater number of votes than it otherwise would have been.

Abstract:
Purpose Virtual reality (VR) is of increasing interest to marketers because it can be used to explore and proactively shape long-term futures, co-create value with consumers, and foster consumer-brand engagement. Yet, to date, the field lacks a cohesive framework for approaching VR research; thus, the objective of this systematic literature review is to provide such a framework and highlight research opportunities. Design/methodology/approach First, after conducting a systematic literature review, we highlight VR themes instrumental to flow and propose a typology for VR research using realism-fantasy and immersion as dimensions. Next, we review the current state of empirical research for each quadrant. Finally, we synthesize research within each quadrant, specifying criteria and considerations for conducting research. In doing so, we propose an agenda for marketing research, centered on methodological, future studies, and consumer-related contributions. Findings VR themes instrumental to flow include the avatar, application quality, and interactivity. We find, contrary to some conceptualizations of VR, that all applications are capable of producing flow. Conflicting research and gaps are highlighted in the findings section and summarized in Table III. Additionally, while prior research seems to draw from findings of other VR applications in advancing knowledge in general, the results of the literature review suggest that VR applications should be treated uniquely. Finally, we propose highly immersive VR applications as more conducive to future studies research. Research limitations/implications Scholars can utilize the findings to prioritize future research studies in marketing. By following the typology and research opportunities, scholars can advance marketing theory and enhance the external validity of research studies through VR applications. Practical implications Managers can utilize the findings to ascertain consumers and societies‘ responses to various marketing stimuli, with implications for product development, branding, retail/service experiences, adoption of new technologies, tourism, and many other domains. VR applications offer managers more ways of testing concepts and processes in realistic fashion without the costs and risks associated with more traditional methods. Originality/value The objective of this paper is to examine varying opportunities for VR research given flow and fantasy potential and to prioritize VR research.

The emission of harmful substances in the air of closed premises, which should not have a harmful effect on humans in accordance with art. 20 of the Federal Law of 30.03.1999, No. 52-FZ proved to be one of the most significant environmental factors due to the increase in the number of new buildings and finishing materials used in construction and, as a result. Material and methods. In this paper, we analyzed the results of laboratory and instrumental studies of indoor air (enclosed) premises, selected at commissioned facilities, performed using both classical methods for the determination of pollutants, and express methods using universal gas analyzers. Results. The obtained main problems arising during the sanitary-epidemiological examination of the results are considered. Conclusion. The need to develop regulations for the amount of air research conducted in closed premises to evaluate the object as a whole, taking into account the limiting hazard indicator of the substances must be determined.

Abstract:
This research describes a clinical case of treatment of a patient with thyrotoxicosis with concomitant hematological pathology carriage of unstable hemoglobin Hasharon. A patient diagnosed with Diffuse toxic nodular goiter. Thyrotoxicosis of medium severity. Drug-induced hypothyroidism was admitted to the Department of radionuclide therapy for the purpose of treatment with radioactive iodine. Onset of disease - summer 2018 (thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) 0 mIU/ml). The instrumental studies (ultrasound, scintillation scanning of the thyroid gland) were performed at the pre-radioiodine therapy (RIT) diagnostic stage. The history of the disease indicates, that in 2000 the patient was suspected of having abnormal hemoglobin, since then no examinations have been conducted and anemia has never been detected. The diagnosis of ancestral hemoglobinopathy with the presence (17%) of unstable Hasharon-Sinai-Sealy hemoglobin in a heterozygous form was verified during the preparation to RIT. The radionuclide therapy I131 with activity of 400 MBq was performed on 02.07.2019. The monthly monitoring of laboratory and instrumental indicants was carried out during the post-therapeutic period: the state of hypothyroidism was reached by the end of 2 months after RT, no episodes of significant increase in bilirubin levels were observed during the observation period; no side effects from RT were stated. It becomes possible based on the example of the above observation, to judge the safety of conducting RT for treatment of thyrotoxicosis in patients with similar hemoglobinopathy, without excluding, however, the need for an individual approach in each case.

Abstract:
Multiple project wafers (MPWs) containing different chip designs from many customers serves as an important vehicle for gaining access to advanced semiconductor process technology for prototyping innovative designs or low-volume production. In this paper, a comprehensive study on the methods for determining dicing plans for MPW was carried out. Dicing plans can be used to determine the number of MPWs needed to be fabricated before chip fabrication and employed to saw the wafers after fabrication. Several methods based on integer linear programming formulation and a heuristic based on simulated annealing was proposed. Through conducting experiments with industrial test cases, these proposed methods can achieve up to 50% wafer reduction in some cases and on average 18% and 38% reduction for low- and high-volume production, respectively. This study makes a contribution to MPW dicing and is also instrumental in developing better reticle floorplanning methods.

Abstract:
This essay outlines a unique set of challenges that we confronted as a PhD supervisor and candidate, drawing on a research project within a United States Federal Prison. We elicit the challenges that can be faced at different stages before, during, and after fieldwork, and share three lessons for others. First, exploring unique phenomena and processes often requires conducting research in extreme empirical contexts, which while challenging, helps to establish the boundaries within which other archetypes can be studied. Second, educating incarcerated individuals is a challenge and an opportunity, and requires creative approaches that can transcend work, family, and social boundaries. Finally, while it is tempting for supervisors and candidates to embark on PhDs for instrumental purposes, helping to support and develop each other should be the core motivation. We hope that others can learn from our experience and reflect on and share more widely their own experiences and practices.
