Abstract:
We describe a general method of computing the square of the singular integral of Bochner-Martinelli. Any explicit formula for the square applies in a familiar way to describe the C*-algebra generated by this integral.

Abstract:
We give a systematic study of the Hardy spaces of functions with values in the non-commutative Lp-spaces associated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra M. This is motivated by matrix valued harmonic analysis (operator weighted norm inequalities, operator Hilbert transform), as well as by the recent development of non-commutative martingale inequalities. Our non-commutative Hardy spaces are defined by non-commutative Lusin integral functions. It is proved in this dissertation that they are equivalent to those defined by the non-commutative Littlewood-Paley G-functions. We also study the Lp bo

Abstract:
The Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type, also called Dubrovin-Novikov brackets, constitute the Hamiltonian structure of a broad class of evolutionary PDEs, that are ubiquitous in the theory of Integrable Systems, ranging from Hopf equation to the principal hierarchy of a Frobenius manifold. They can be regarded as an analogue of the classical Poisson brackets, defined on an infinite dimensional space of maps Σ → M between two manifolds. Our main problem is the study of Poisson-Lichnerowicz cohomology of such space when dim Σ > 1. We introduce the notion of multidimensional Poisson Vertex Al

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to give a mathematical framework for scattering of electromagnetic waves by rough surfaces. We prove that the Maxwell transmission problem with a weakly Lipschitz interface,in finite energy norms, is well posed in Fredholm sense for real frequencies. Furthermore, we give precise conditions on the material constants ε, μ and σ and the frequency ω when this transmission problem is well posed. To solve the Maxwell transmission problem, we embed Maxwell’s equations in an elliptic Dirac equation. We develop a new boundary integral method to solve the Dirac transmission pro

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In Chapter One the theoretical basis for infinitesimal transformations is presented with particular emphasis on the central theme of this thesis which is the invariance of ordinary differential equations, and their first integrals, under infinitesimal transformations. The differential operators associated with these infinitesimal transformations constitute an algebra under the operation of taking the Lie Bracket. Some of the major results of Lie's work are recalled. The way to use the generators of symmetries to reduce the order of a differential equation and/or to find its first integrals is

We discuss two topics in this talk. First we study compact Ricci-flat four dimensional manifolds without boundary and obtain point wise restrictions on curvature( not involving global quantities such as volume and diameter) which force the metric to be flat. We obtain the same conclusion for compact Ricci-flat K¨ahler surfaces with similar but weaker restrictions on holomorphic sectional curvature. Next we study the reaction ODE associated to the evolution of the Riemann curvature operator along the Ricci flow. We analyze the behavior of this ODE near algebraic curvature operators of certain s
