As a Network Centric Warfare (NCW) case applied in Air & Missile Defense domain, Networked Air & Missile Defense (NAMD) represents the superior development of the Air & Missile Defense warfare in future. Based on the ideology of Integrated Fire Control, architecture and characteristics of NAMD are depicted, and simulation models based on above depictions are designed. Finally, operational capabilities of NAMD are generally evaluated, and the rationalities of decision-making script and model framework are validated by concentrating on results of an operational scenario simulation.

A GEC Marconi Avionics/MoD joint–funded integrated, digital terrain system called ' PENETRATE ' (passive enhanced navigation with terrain referenced avionics) is in its fourth year of flight trials on a Hunter fast–jet aircraft at the Defence Research Agency, Farnborough. Although originally designed to enable military aircraft to penetrate enemy defences at low level in poor weather conditions and at night, the system also has a direct read across to civil air transport operations. The heart of the PENETRATE system is a digital data–store housing a three–dimensional model of the terrain inclu

A key component of the U.S. Army’s vision for future unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations is to integrate UAVs into manned missions, an effort called manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T; Department of Defense, 2010). One candidate application of MUM-T is to provide the Air Mission Commander (AMC) of a team of Black Hawk helicopters control of multiple UAVs, offering advanced reconnaissance and real-time intelligence of the upcoming flight route and landing zones. One important design decision in the development of a system to support multi-UAV control by an AMC is the selection of the interface

Purpose – The lean enterprise model has been adopted in a wide range of industries beyond its origins in the motor industry. To achieve this there has been a considerable extension of the lean concept outside high-volume repetitive manufacture. The purpose of this paper is to present an in-depth study of the application of lean within the British Royal Air Force. It offers a number of new insights which have implications for the future development and adoption of lean in service contexts, and the public sector in particular. Due to the rapid development and wide application of air attack weapons, air defence missiles against them are increasingly important and have become the main air defence weapons in modern war. However, interception strategy of air defence missile system is ignored in previous studies. Thus, using the combinatorial optimization, this paper proposes a methodology to optimize the strategy of ADMS in a missile-target interception process in order to minimize the expected costs for defender. According to the practice, the considered process has multiple targets and multiple phases, and the expecte

Standards, guidelines, manuals, and researches refer mainly to the required protection of a nuclear power plant (NPP) containment structure (where the reactor's vessel is located) against different internal and external extreme events. However, there is no consideration regarding the man-made extreme event of external explosion resulting from air bomb or cruise missile. A novel integrated blast resistance model (IBRM) of NPP's reinforced concrete (RC) auxiliary facilities due to an external above ground explosion based on two components is suggested. Canada is known for its close relations with the United States in the domains of economic affairs, defence and international diplomacy. This arrangement, however, was a product of the great changes brought about by the Second World War. The combination of British decline, Ottawa’s desire to achieve full independence from London, and the looming Soviet threat during the Cold War created a political environment in which Canada had to become closely integrated with the United States both militarily and economically. Canada did so to ensure its survival in the international system. With the except

This article examines teacher induction in the military undergraduate education context. The U.S. Air Force Academy relies on approximately 520 military and civilian instructors to educate nearly 4000 future military officers each year. These educators must be highly skilled and unquestionably capable in their abilities to teach these future leaders. Many of these instructors derive from highly technical active duty operational career fields (such as pilot, missile operator, etc.). This article reveals how Collins’, Brown’s, and Newman’s (1989) theory of cognitive apprenticeship is manifested
